Completed W4/D1/C3: 21,25,21,21,50 and followed it up with another 55.

By Gunrock on November 19, 2011 at 07:22 AM

Decided to do W4/D2/C3 while I still had some energy: 25,29,25,25, and 50 on the last set. That takes today's total to 347.

By Gunrock on November 18, 2011 at 04:58 AM

Well, I finished Week 3: 22,30,20,20, and 50 on the last set.

I don't know if it's because I'm getting used to the exercise again, the nap I had before doing the exercise, or the 2 minute rest breaks between sets, but I found tonight's sets a lot easier than the previous days'. I can definitely feel the strain in my abs though...

By angelovearth on November 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM

Good for you!

By Evensr0207 on November 17, 2011 at 08:54 PM

@GR - Agreed, taking breaks is indeed a good way to avoid plateauing; I simply wish it did not come at the expense of a the grind to get back up there. Great attitude!!! And that waht has kept you going, and going.

@Angel - You are on fire!!! Double dose?! No slowing you down, and I see it does run in the family. 101 PUs at 13? He is putting the rest of us to shame, I say...LOL!!!

As for me, shamefully, I could not complete W3C3D2 tonight. Amazing I was/am still sore from Tuesday; still, I wanted to push through it. Although I am disappointed that I didn't get too far; I dropped off on the 4th set. I just didn't feel that I had it today. In any event, I am happy to have pushed myself a bit, and soon as my body gets used to the demands I will be in better position. Meantime I will keep pushing, albeit baby steps.

Whewey... this is not going to be an easy ride! Yet, I am happy to socialize the idea of looking back at the humble beginings in the weeks ahead. For now, I am happy to feel my pecs and triceps tightening up. Yah, nice!!! Anyway, wish me luck and stay tuned!

Best to you both...ciao!

By angelovearth on November 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM

Nothing that's really worth is usually IS easy, right? ;) Way to push through. Keep at it. It'll get easier.

By angelovearth on November 18, 2011 at 09:57 AM

My arms were BEAT yesterday so when I tried to do Max Cardio Recovery, I couldn't do it and had to quit 20 minutes in. Decided on a rest day then. But today I did Max Interval Circuit. 16-16-16-16-12-12-20-20-20= 148

By Gunrock on November 16, 2011 at 01:56 AM

Starting W3/C3/D1. 14/18/14/14/30 and and extra 50. I actually still feel sore from yesterday's two sets of 50!

By Evensr0207 on November 16, 2011 at 04:30 AM

YOu are not kidding! I was feeling sore since last night, and this morning my triceps and chest are really sore. Yah, it's a great feeling; we're getting somewhere!!! Believe it or not, even my ABs are sore. Totally shocked me (but really shoulkdn't); I have not been working out as intense and consistent for weekss on end. Still, I didn't expect to feel any soreness at all. This is just W3/C3/D1; which is nothing to compare to months passed...but I suppose not having done pushups in a long while does it,huh?. Well, am happy now that the muscles are coming back to life.

Anyway, I am always impressed at the last set; this is always telling of one's relative strength. The muscle endurance always tells a bigger story... Good going, GR!!! No surprise at you ushing another 50, although pale in comparaison to your previous feats. Of course, I know you will get back up there in no time; but tell me, are you surprised (humbled) at starting it over (almost at ground level) to get back to where you were? What is your outlook?

From my experience, it is such a mental drain; but considering the other option, you best keep going, for you don't regain unless you recommit. So, keep pushing ahead and you'll close the gap soon enough.
Best to you...ciao!

By Gunrock on November 17, 2011 at 02:30 AM

Thanks Evensr, I'm not surprised that I finding it so hard - I've been doing this Dare for nearly two years now and have leaned (repeatedly!) that when ever I take a break of more than two or three days I generally can't reach the same sort of numbers I did previously. This time I took a month off so being back to base level doesn't surprise me at all.

I like that I can feel the effects of the exercise again, though. Perhaps taking breaks occassionally is a good way to avoid plateauing. But at the same time, I want to be able to do 100 (or more) push ups at any time so that, if the situation ever came up, I could do them easily without much fuss (not that I think such a situation would ever come up!)

By Gunrock on November 17, 2011 at 02:18 AM

Still sore today but managed to do W3/C3/D2: 20,25,15,15,30 and an extra 50 after that.

By angelovearth on November 16, 2011 at 06:56 PM

Did a double dose today. Did Max Cardio Conditioning which luckily didn't have a lot of push ups in it today but then I also did P90X's Back & Chest & Ab RipperX with my son cuz that was his agreed upon consequence for not cleaning his bathroom yesterday.lol He's 13 and did 101 push ups and 69 pull ups. I did 20-25 during the Insanity w/o and 25-25-10-7-25-20-10-12-8-8 during the P90X w/o = 195

By angelovearth on November 15, 2011 at 09:23 AM

Did Max Interval Plyo today. Here are the sets I did. (Only some were traditional push ups, there were also squat p-ups, V-p-ups, Power p-ups, Balance p-ups, and side p-ups.)
9-9-12-13-12-12-16-14-16-12-16-10-13-9-10=183! Oh yeah! lol

By Evensr0207 on November 16, 2011 at 04:15 AM

Holy cow!!! Girl, you rock!!! Great workout!!! Need I say more? Curious to know the recovery time in between those sets; although it doesn't diminish the workout...am simply just curious.

Best to you!

By angelovearth on November 16, 2011 at 08:00 AM

Well, the whole dvd is about 50 minutes long (about 10 minutes in the beginning for warm-up and stretch) and in this one you do a 4 minute set, then a 30 second rest, then another 2x4 minute sets of the same exercises. Another 30 second rest and then another 3x4minute sets of different exercises. Lots of plank exercises also. That pattern is repeated until about the last 5 minutes, which is for cool down. Does that make sense? It a actually moves pretty fast...hence the name, INSANITY. LOL ;)

By angelovearth on November 16, 2011 at 08:02 AM

lol and in case you're wondering, I AM sore this morning in my shoulders and traps, and hips and inner thighs but I use the P90X Results & Recovery formula and that REALLY helps you with not feeling TOO sore. hehe

By Evensr0207 on November 15, 2011 at 07:44 AM

W3C3D1 in the books....good gosh, this is not going to be an easy ride!!! Happy to make it through this round, but I have to admit it was/feel harder than I had anticipated. Not sure if my strength just skipped town on me, or just watching me at the other corner of the room. Truth be told, I struggled through it, and disappointedly complete the rounds. Perhaps, the demons in my head telling me to just let it go for another day also had something to do with it.

Anyway, happy to put this behind me. However, I am not sure whether I should repeat it, take a rest tomorrow, or just keep doing daily pushups so my body gets used to the forthcoming demands. No matter the choice, no easy path!!! Aaargh...anyway,by all accounts this will be a difficult journey; consolation if any, I know i am not the only one pushing through the thick of it. But gosh, I just can't believe how much I've struggled to get through it...Whew!

Best to you all...Ciao!

By angelovearth on November 15, 2011 at 09:20 AM

I hate that when your mind works against you! Keep focused and know you can do it and you will. What's that quote from Henry Ford? "Weather you think you can't or you think you can, you're right." Just keep pushing. We'll get there!

By Gunrock on November 15, 2011 at 02:46 AM

It's been exactly one month since I completed my personal goal and in that time I haven't done any push ups.

Tonight I did two sets of 50 just to see where I stand. I definitely feel a lot heavier than I did a month ago and my biceps aren't quite as hard, but that will be remedied soon enough.

I've decided that however many push ups I do a day, I will do double the amount of squats. I'm also going to give up chocolate again. Wish me luck!

By Evensr0207 on November 15, 2011 at 07:43 AM

Welcome back !!! I thought you'd take a year off after reaching your personal goal ;-). Yah I think you've done the right thing taking a month off; hopefully your body has fully recovered. On the other hand, I am surprised that you did only two sets of 50??? What gives??? I take it 50PUs were by choice and not because you couldnt push your body a little more.

That's the price to pay in resting the body for a while. It is neither that your arms have gotten weaker nor your body heavier; it is more about the body trying to get back in the groove again. Soon enough it will sync up and all the parts/muscles working like a well-oiled machine.

Welcome back, and best to you.

By angelovearth on November 15, 2011 at 09:18 AM

Luck! :)

By Evensr0207 on November 14, 2011 at 06:53 PM

@Angel- You're on! Happy to partner up with you on this journey. The exhaustion test is already behind me and ready to rev up in high gear over the next several weeks. For now, next step on my agenda is to put W3/C3/D1 in the books.

Hope you're off to a good start. Best to you...Ciao ;-)

By angelovearth on November 15, 2011 at 09:17 AM

Thanks! Same to you!

By Evensr0207 on November 12, 2011 at 03:20 PM

I've taken a breather time and again, and shamefully I've not been able to get back on the saddle for too long, and another break somehow creeps in. So yah, it's been that kind stop-and-go-and-stop again and again. I find repeating this challenge is a challenge of its own. So, the jury is not out for me to nail the 100 by end of the year.

So these days, I am off to a slow start, I have plenty of time ahead of me; I just need to light a fire in my belly and let it burn real hot to get me going.

Stay tuned!

By angelovearth on November 14, 2011 at 07:22 AM

lol I know what you mean. This is a challenge to return to time and time again. It's always new and always a great motivator. We can get there together! ;)

By Gunrock on November 15, 2011 at 02:50 AM

I'm back down to 50 after taking a month off. I'll restart the program with you!

By Katen on November 11, 2011 at 03:52 AM

Must formally admit defeat on this goal, and renew a commitment to try again in 2012. No without good reason - my little man is due on January 1st, and my big tummy doesn't permit vigorous exercise. But I've heard that lifting the little guy up tens of times a day will help a lot with building these poor little arms back up. Good luck everyone and hope you reach your goal by year's end :)

By Evensr0207 on November 12, 2011 at 03:13 PM

Congrats and best to you!
Yah, like the rest of us, this challenge is here to stay. Taking a sabbatical is not unusual in this forum. God knows, I've taken several. Quick correction to your post, I don't agree that you are admitting defeat; you've not given up on this challenge. While you are attending to more important matters, we look forward to seeing you back in here again.

'Til then, best to you!

By angelovearth on November 14, 2011 at 07:21 AM

Wow! Kudos to get this far! I can just imagine with a full bellly like that! lol Concentrate on you right now and come back when you're ready.

By Gunrock on November 15, 2011 at 02:48 AM

Wow! Congtralutions and good luck!

By Evensr0207 on November 12, 2011 at 03:23 PM

@angel & @Hip - How about we set a kick off date 11/14 for a push toward the finish line. That's enough time to make it, considering we are not starting at the begining level.

So, let's...

By hiprhyme on November 13, 2011 at 07:41 AM

i'll be out of town travelling, leaving today... but i'm packing my pushup training sheet!

By angelovearth on November 14, 2011 at 07:19 AM

OK! I'm in! :)

By angelovearth on November 14, 2011 at 07:19 AM

Ok, finally got going today. Last week was recovery week so not too many push ups. I started Insanity Max month today and kept track of how many I did: 16-16-16-8-12-8-during program and then I did an extra two sets of 30 & 20 = 126 :)

By hiprhyme on October 15, 2011 at 02:34 PM

took about 2 months off this dare, now starting over (again) at week 3. W3 D1 C2 12/17/13/13/17

ER, welcome to your new role as our leader! you will be great at this as you have always been a great encourager. what is jason doing now?

By Evensr0207 on October 18, 2011 at 05:28 PM

Nice of you to drop by and happy to see you getting back in gear (again). Like the rest of us, persistence will takes us all there, although in staggered fashion. Clearly, we all have our (different) share of challenges. Anyway, welcome back! It seems like you've done easy work on W3D1C2. Good start, and looking forward to seeing your post.

Talked to Jason a little while back, and gracefully agreed to pass the helm. So, I look forward to shepherd the joiners through 2012 and beyond. First order is to reach out to those who've gotten sidetracked, and rally them to reconnect and recommit. We'll see...

By hiprhyme on November 5, 2011 at 03:21 PM

Sidetracked? Like me? lol Been about 3 weeks since this last post, and I haven't done a pushup since! I did pull a muscle, though, so I'll use that as my excuse...

By angelovearth on November 4, 2011 at 08:10 PM

Been really busy with family things. I will start this challenge for good on monday!

By angelovearth on October 29, 2011 at 04:01 PM

Yup, I can do 35 in a set. :)

By Evensr0207 on October 31, 2011 at 09:42 PM

35 is such a strong start at the mark; of course I imagine you mean regular pushups. Either way, it is a pretty solid base to grow on.

Looking forward to see your progress...I am due back to make the climb to the 100 again soon.

Best to you.

By Gunrock on October 31, 2011 at 05:53 AM

I've taken some time off with the push ups, but even still, one of my colleagues mentioned last week that I was looking quite muscular! That's not why I joined Livestrong, though. The main reason was to get fit. Well, today I ran up five flights of stairs - two steps at a time - and got to the top expecting to be puffed out. I wasn't winded at all! I I am really looking forward to winter now; I'll be back in the montains and I really want to see how much my stamina has improved over the last 12 months.

I've also noticed that I can do duck walks and rabbit jumps (I'm not sure what other people call these exercises - duck walk is walking from a crouching position with hands behind back, rabbit jump is jumping forward forward from crouching position). I could never do these exercises properly before, but thanks to the 200 squats program, I can now do them relatively easily.

Next on my agenda is pull ups. Not sure when I'll start, though...

By angelovearth on October 31, 2011 at 07:36 AM

That's great, Gunrock! I live in the mountains and feel like wonderwoman when I go down to sea level.lol...I call those frog leaps and Groucho Marx walk. lol...I can do 2 1/2 pull ups now! ;)

By Evensr0207 on October 31, 2011 at 09:40 PM

After your super PU challenge, talking about much deserved time off is clearly an understatement. No doubt, the PUs have contributed to your muscular appearance; to look and feel strong is just awesome.

Goood luck in your next challenge; I am sure you will shine again.

By angelovearth on October 28, 2011 at 04:41 PM

I don't HAVE to use the program listed above do I? I tried this challenge a few years ago and made it to 55 being my best. I think now I can do about 35? I've been doing P90X and Insanity and we do a lot of push ups in it. I'll see tomorrow how many I can actually do in a set. ;)
