3 pounds away from being able to post a 60 lb loss .... only 100 or so to go ...

I never thought I could do this, which is why it took me so long to try. It hasn't even been a year yet and it won't be until April. I had planned for this to be a 2 year journey at least but I now know that even if I do reach my goal in 2 years that this is no longer just a 2 year commitment. This is for the rest of my life. Getting to goal is just half the battle ...maintaining for a lifetime is the REAL test.

How is everyone?

BJ, we're thinking of you.
Everyone else, are you okay?

Kind of lonely out here. Especially this close to Thanksgiving and can't go home to family for the holidays.

Take meds, drink water, have coffee, eat. Track food, plan new hypothyroid menu. Try to catch up on friends' emails.

Feeling that the mantra is true, "Nothing tastes as good as healthy, strong and well feels."

I'm approaching getting under 300 pounds for the first time in since 2004, before that 1997, I think. Lots of emotions coming up to say 'hi'.

I'm thankful for electricity and hot water today. What are you thankful for?

Stay Strong,

RW

Highest Weight: 352 (04/17/03)
Starting Weight: 325 (06/03/09)
Current Weight: 306 (11/16/09)
Goal to Shed: 212 pounds
Percentage Shed: 21.6%
Total Loss: 46.0 pounds
Weeks: 24
Mini Goal: 297 pounds by November 24, 2009.

With 7 days left to meet my mini goal, I'm feeling devastated to see an uptick at my weekly weigh in and the plateau I'm on. I've lost 2.25 pounds per week or more on average and I'm feeling disheartened.

If anyone wants to take a look at my food diary and give me feedback, I'd appreciate another set of eyes on the situation. My coach and I think my thyroid is out of whack again. I'm having hypothyroid symptoms despite medication and testing.

Until I solve the problem, I'm going to hold the line as best I can. One thing I'm certain of is that I won't permit myself to binge over this. Just keep breathing, I keep telling myself, we'll figure this out.

Hey Everybody,

I haven't been on for a while, but I am trying to stick to the program. I went aqua therapy today and I believed I over did it, but I am glad that I went. BJ I am glad that your father is dong better. I will keep him in my prayers. Thanks Resilient Woman for becoming one of my friends. Good job on losing. I haven't lost anything, but I haven't been on the scale either. I will meet with my nutritionist tomorrow and see where I am at, hopefully some good news. Yesterday I turned 44 boy how the time go pass I was just 34 not too long ago lol.

By ResilientWoman on November 17, 2009 at 10:24 PM

Know what you mean, I will be 43 on Monday, Nov. 30. I deeply want to be under 300 by then. Weighed in one pound heavier than last week today with my coach. We've hit upticks and plateaus before but it just doesn't get any easier to not get the reward of the scale crawling, however slowly, downward. Drat! I will continue on my path. The alternative is unlivable.

Today I am thankful for Z-Health and it's ability to resolve pain.

With only 8 days left to meet my goal, I'm feeling a little frustrated at the plateau I'm on. Re-read the post by Brian Nelson, a fellow LiveStronger who gave me a good education on upticks and scale behavior. lol

Declaring today a rest day because I haven't rested enough in the last week. Taking it easy and being grateful I'm still here to do so.

Good evening my fellow livestrongers. I have been away from the board because of an emergency with my father. I'm always saying enjoy each day to it's fullest. I had just walked into work yesterday on the most beautiful of days and my phone kept going off and was told I needed to get home right away. 5hrs later after seeing my dad the prognosis didn't look good but I still practiced what I preach and was positive and wasn't going to put out the negative energy. His vitals have improved a lot from this am but he's still in critical care. How is this for a sign his doctor was wearing a yellow Livestrong bracelet. Talk about Good Karma. I just had to take a minute to share this with you all. Thanks for all the positivity and prayers everyone has sent my way. I will continue to livestrong and hope you do as well. I may not be doing my normal workout but even thru this I'm taking the stairs at the hospital and watching my cals. Don't stop believing!!!!

Today I am thankful I live in Seattle where the prevalent peer pressure is to be active, get outdoors and have lots of physical fitness inducing fun. Check out http://www.meetup.com/ for your own area and see who's meeting to do the same activity/exercise as you. It really helps me to have something social to motivate me to stay on target around my "getting and staying active" goals.

Current Weight: 301.2 (11/13/09)

Weeks: 23.5
Mini Goal: 297 pounds by November 24, 2009.

With only 10 days left to meet my mini goal, I've felt frustrated at hovering around 300. Then I remembered that I spent from Fall 2007 to June 2009 "stuck" at 325 pounds. To bust that plateau, I learned about my Vitamin D3 deficiency and corrected it. Once my blood levels were between 60 & 80, I could lose weight.

Hiring a personal trainer who is an RKC certified Kettlebell instructor in my frustration on the way to correcting this medical issue was life altering. Now I not only lose waist inches and pounds but get to build a body stronger and healthier than I'd ever dreamed.

I also recall being frustrated for 3 weeks when I was stuck at 316.25 (Sept. 22, 29 & Oct. 6). During that plateau, I learned to track my food here at Live Strong, because the improved accuracy compared to my earlier attempts revolutionized my awareness of what I was actually eating.

I learned that aiming for 1600 calories/day was a nice idea but not if I had 3500 and 2700 calorie days mixed in and missed my goal by a couple several hundred calories regularly. LOL Now I'm hitting my target more often and if I don't, I know why and what to do about it...lots more Kettlebell swings, Tabata Thrusters, etc.

Today I am thankful for chicken tortilla soup that I got from the Food Bank that happenned to be gluten free and fit my meal goals so well.

Highest Weight: 352 (04/17/03)

Current Weight: 301.6 (11/13/09)

Total Loss: 50.4 pounds
Weeks: 23.5

Mini Goal: 297 pounds by November 24, 2009. (To be under 300 when dressed for working out with my trainer on the medical grade scale at the gym. Clothes are around 2.5 pounds...so, 297 + 2.5 = 299.5 and still under 300 pounds.)

I'm maintaining my loss but stuck a little. Have no idea if it's water retention or if I have to mix it up more to see the results I want. I'm going slowly and making sensible choices.

Got an email from an old friend from college. He's become diabetic and is now morbidly obese. His father died of complications due to diabetes only a few short years ago, decades too soon.

He's like the brother I always wanted but didn't have and I just wanted to wrap him up in all the support I get here each day and love him back to health. Instead I'm sending his wife (also an old college friend) the Schwarzbein Principle for Christmas since she does most of the cooking, and if he wants it, he can get into remission and begin to heal.

Today I am thankful for my growing daughter who gets to learn nutrition and health from my behaviors. She is learning to make good choices and will grow up with knowledge I lacked as a youth. With my good examples now, my former negative example and knowledge about strength training and nutrition it is possible that she'll never have to suffer the way many of us did growing up.

I haven't posted in a while, but wanted to show I was still alive and working at this.
At Halloween I put on my costume (the same one I wore the year before) and got quite a shock-- I posted the comparison images in my profile.

Down about 100 lbs since this time last year... have 30-50 more to go.

here is a direct link to the comparison image-- I always like that better than having to dig around--

GREAT job you look fantastic!

By jackie200 on November 11, 2009 at 04:58 PM

Today wasn't a good day. Ate everything in sight. I went to visit my nutritionist and after she told everything I couldn't have I ate. I have been keeping track of my plan,, but need to add more protein and less fat into my diet. How do you get over the sweet graving?

By ResilientWoman on November 11, 2009 at 09:02 PM

I learned a lot from reading The Diet Cure by Julia Ross. She talks a little about it on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEJRXZ0nMvM

My body craving sweets often results from starvation. Keeping track of even 3500 calorie days, I discovered that going too long between meals/snacks let me slip into "starvation mode". I incorporated eating 8 cups of raw veggies/day (cut up the night before) and had those at my side all day wherever I was so that I was always nibbling. (Julia Ross - The Diet Cure, The Mood Cure)

That and getting at least 1200 calories per day, 1400-1600 is better for many folks (1600-1800 for me right now because I'm still breastfeeding my daughter), and eating every 2 - 2 1/2 hours can curb all my cravings and keep my blood sugar from roller coastering.

Getting sufficient protein at each meal/snack is also important to my health goals of shedding 212 pounds of extra fat and building sufficient functional muscles to have the life of which I dream which includes going to med school at the age of 43.9 (next year) and becoming a doctor. Good luck and be informed, be compassionate, be well and

Stay Strong,
RW

I always found that going to nutritionists made me want to eat what I shouldn't.
It wasn't until I realized that it didn't matter WHAT I ate as long as Calorically it fit into my plan. Made it MUCH easier to balance in the "right" foods when I knew I could plan for and also consume the "wrong" foods...

By bjnash on November 12, 2009 at 06:22 AM

Good Morning and a Happy and beautiful Thursday to you all. Even though I was tempted for a minute I didn't give in and got up and hit the gym and completed my morning workout. It was just what I needed to start the day. I hope you all meet your goals today and keep living strong. Don't stop believing!!!!

By ResilientWoman on November 11, 2009 at 08:46 PM

Scared I wasn't going to quite make my goal, I spent some time re-tooling my plan and decided that there were two changes I could make for two weeks that would open the way for me to a new level of health:

Fore go gluten and Tabata style exercises for 4 minutes/day. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Highest Weight: 352 (04/17/03)
Starting Weight: 325 (06/03/09)
Current Weight: 301.6 (11/11/09)
Goal to Shed: 212 pounds
Percentage Shed: 23.7%
Total Loss: 50.4 pounds
Weeks: 23

Mini Goal: 297 pounds (To be under 300 when dressed for working out with my trainer on the medical grade scale at the gym. Clothes are around 2.5 pounds...so, 297 + 2.5 = 299.5 and still under 300 pounds.)

By ResilientWoman on November 10, 2009 at 08:41 PM

November 10, 2009.

Today I am grateful for shedding 2.25 pounds in the last week. Would prefer to lose 3 pounds per week but I'll take it! I may or may not make 297 in 2 weeks, but will definitely be there soon.

My Turkish Getup is rapidly improving. I'm on track with my plank work toward eventually becoming able to do pushups. As soon as I can perform 5 pushups, I'm taking the 100 Pushups dare. I'd like to be able to do 100 consecutive pushups by March 31, 2010.

Starting Weight: 352
Current Weight: 302.2
Goal Weight: 140
Goal: to reduce my excess weight by 212 pounds.
Mini-goal: to weigh 299 by Nov. 24, 2009.
Progress: 49.8 pounds off (23.5% complete).
Remaining: 162.2 pounds to go.

Stay strong,
RW

Terrific Tuesday my fellow Livestrongers. I'm feeling a million times better today. Thanks for all the positive energy sent my way. Hit the floor running this morning and completed my morning workout and ate a healthy breakfast. It's going to be a great day because anything less is unacceptable. Today is what you make it. Be a candle and shine bright today. Love life and livestrong. Don't stop believing!!!!!

By jackie200 on November 10, 2009 at 08:08 PM

thanks for the encouragement. Meeting with my nutritionist tomorrow, contemplating about the bypass surgery. I would really like to do it on my own.

By ImShibbTastic on November 10, 2009 at 08:02 PM

Well now that I have lost my 15 lbs. and think i can actually see a physical change. My skin is getting looser and i can see dips on the sides of my stomach. It's funny because as I was looking in the mirror I thought "wow that is really gonna look ugly with all the baggy skin im going to have. But at the same time it's a beautiful sight to see the fat going away." :)

Starting weight: 393lbs.
Current weight 378 lbs.
Short Goal: loose 50 lbs by new years
Main goal: lose 200 lbs

By ResilientWoman on November 10, 2009 at 03:30 AM

November 9, 2009.

Today I am grateful for progress.

Starting Weight: 352
Current Weight: 302.6
Goal Weight: 140
Goal: to reduce my excess weight by 212 pounds.
Mini-goal: to weigh 299 by Nov. 24, 2009.
Progress: 49.4 pounds off (23.3% complete).
Remaining: 162.6 pounds to go

The way my weight has been up and down with the sodium intake, I estimate that I will either make my mini-goal or miss it by a week, nevertheless, I will get under 300 pounds and stay there.

Celebrate with me (some time this next week) when I have finally shed the first 50 pounds. Yay! If I can do it anyone can. Just to remind myself how far I've come, I put up some of my "before" pics. Afters will be taken on November 24th, whether I hit below 300 or not.

Stay strong,
RW

I am new on the page, but trying to lose 200lbs. I weigh 357 at 5'11. Having hard time being consistent. any tips.

By mysticl on November 10, 2009 at 12:31 AM

Just track everything and it helps if you can pre plan your day. If you don't have a kitchen scale I recommend getting one. The thing that has helped me the most was weighing and/or measuring almost everything ... if I don't I tend to overestimate how much I am allowed to eat and it doesn't take long for all those little mistakes to add up.

Make sure you are drinking lots of water.

Since your food diary is private I can't make any recommendations regarding you calorie goals but I'd like to make a note here that the LS calorie estimator is slightly out of whack with us gals as it assumes we are men. This means it sometimes recommends more calories for us than it should for us to meet our goals. I aim for about 1500 calories a day to get about 1.5-2 pounds lost per week. I started at 325 in March and I am currently 271, a loss so far of 54 pounds.

By NhPhotog on November 9, 2009 at 01:46 PM

On Nov. 4th I weighed 240 lbs. I hope to hit the 200 by the end of January before my buddies wedding (yes there is a certain brides-maid I'm looking to impress). In my first week I lost 7lbs, but the first week I my previous attempts to loose weight also came with quick results in the first few days. The last few times I attempted this I quit, but I know that keeping track of my progress on this site and reading the message board with this dare that I will stay on track and get it done. Goal: 40lbs in 3 months - Starting Now

By mysticl on November 10, 2009 at 12:21 AM

I find that following my progress on the weight graph really helped me stay on track in the beginning. It gets addictive making that little line go in the downward direction ;)

I know what you mean about that quick start to any diet .. unfortunately it is usually mostly a water loss but even that is a good thing ... so don't be too disappointed :)
