Get in shape with a goal in mind. Challenge yourself to do the Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge on October 24th & 25th and raise money for the fight against cancer along the way. Cancer doesnt discriminate, and neither do we. Take the Challenge on a bike or on your feet. Participate on your own or with a team, uniting with others who want to pick a fight with cancer. We walk, run and ride to honor our families, our friends and ourselves. We celebrate victories and applaud hard work walking your first 5K after completing treatment, organizing 50 co-workers to ride 10 miles for the first time, raising $500 in honor of a newly diagnosed friend, or riding 100 miles in memory of a loved one. This will be my third year participating in the Livestrong Challenge Austin. I participate in the 5K and my husband does the 90 mile ride. We drive down from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada (in the centre of Canada) and spend time in Houston with my parents and then to Austin. Last year my sister from Norway and my 77 year old mother participated with me. We are hoping that my other 2 sisters and 2 nieces will participate in 2011~

I am up to a 2 mile long run on the treadmill and a 1.5 run in the real world. The run inthe real world is flat and I tend to run it pretty quickly compared to teh treadmill.

Does anyone know the course in Austin? Is is flat, or will I be battling hills?

By atlanta01 on March 22, 2011 at 06:01 PM

The course has changed in the last 2 years. In 2009 the course was through the downtown area of Austin and there were a couple of hills. Last year they route went through more residential areas and there were more hills. The course is a really well laid out course and there are plenty of flat parts of the 5K.

Hope this helps!

I started the new year at 351 lbs. My goal is to finish this 5k jogging. I am already down to 337 lbs. I am taking this dare for my health and to honr my sister and aunt in their battles with cancer, as well as to Livestrong for my wife and daughters.

Kiki Adams - working advertising and marketing.
This is important to me, to prove that I can regain my stamina and be a better me.
It is also very important to put my cancer behind me, not only in mind, but by rebuilding a strong, capable, adventuresome body.

By atlanta01 on March 1, 2010 at 08:22 PM

2010 will be my second 5K Livestrong Challenge event. I walked the 5K in 2009 without any training due to rotator cuff surgery prior to the event. I was so inspired by the entire weekend that I decided to run the 5K in 2010. I joined a gym, got a trainer and starting eating healthy. My husband rides the 90 mile event and I decided last year to do something to support Livestrong.

I am so excited about returning to Austin in 2010 - the hotels are booked and we have our drive planned (we're coming from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada - I'm a Texan but have lived in Canada for 40 years).

Now to continue my training to reach my goal this year!

Coming on my five year survivor mark in the last of this month. Lost my husband to cancer eight years ago. I sure wish I could make it to participate. I am training for a mini marathon in Clovis, CA in the last of September. I was training (Race walking)and ready for the Indy 500 mini when the cancer struck, this mini will be surreal in September. Just acheived 11.5 minute miles, working on endurance now. I will be praying for all of you on Oct. 24 & 25. God Bless!

I have not registered yet, but will be doing so soon. Trying to get a team together to do it with, but will do so alone if I can't rally the troops!

Did you get a team in or get registered? If not join my team. Team Kingstrong, or Team King I cant remember how it is listed. We are looking for a couple more people. We are coming in from IL.

This is so intense. I lived in the ATX for 14 years and loved every minute of it. feel free to ask if anyone needs any advice on hotels or bars, etc. I am so excited about this ride.

I am living with medullary thyroid cancer and have finally registered for the 65 mile ride. I'm wondering if I can do the 5k as well :)

By sartin on June 25, 2009 at 02:55 PM

Planning to ride the 65 mile chasing my 9 year old son, Spencer who will be riding his 6th LIVESTRONG Challenge ride since being diagnosed with leukemia (ALL) in 2004.
