Dark chocolate works for me. I'll eat a square of 78% cacao. Safeway Select brand is excellent. The ingredients are few and you can pronounce them. I compared to other expensive dark chocolates. I was surprised the preservatives and gunk that's added. It's an acquired taste but SS is surprisingly creamy and not as bitter as you'd think. When I get a craving, I eat a square...slowly, letting it melt in my mouth. It's very low in calories and extremely good for you. Remember your body processes all sugar the same way, it doesn't matter where you get it from. Might as well get excellent health benefits from it.

1 Avocado
5-6 Dates
3-4 TBSP Organic, Raw Cacao Powder (not the same as cocoa powder)

I have two!
Both use almond milk as a base:
1- 1 cup vanilla or chocolate almond milk, 1 chopped banana, 1 tbsp peanut butter.
(almost better than sex!)

2- 1 cup almond milk, 1 cup frozen berries, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder.

Out of interest, how much do you find your weight changes if you weigh in the evening? I always weigh first thing before I've eaten anything but tonight I hopped on the scales after my tea & had a bit of a fright haha.

By EchoLaughter on February 13, 2012 at 12:25 PM

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile

On a good day.. Changes by about 1-2 pounds.

On a "bad" day .. I can be 5 or so pounds heavier haha

I usually weigh 2-5lbs more at the end of the day. A guy I know fluctuates more than 8lbs!

You're normal, but that's why you should do your "official" weight loss weigh-ins at the same time of day.

I just figured out how to make a sandwich for lunch that is about 200 calories ad an apple instead of a hand full of chips. Natures own bread is only 40 a slice mustard over mayo turkey and provolone and some hots. Yay I'm learning and like it. LIVE STRONG

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile

๐Ÿ’Šawesome! that was one of the first things I felt like I had made that didn't feel like dieting. Almost the exact same idea for sandwich. Mine initially started out with Flatout brand fold-its. They are these flatbread dealies that hinge in the middle for a sandwich. They were like 90 calories, though, and when I found "Healthy Life" bread I switched to that because it's 35 cals a slice.

My sandwich looks like this
70 - Healthy Life bread
50 - 2 slices of Fat Free Turkey Breast
60 - Reduced fat Provolone
5 - French's Horseradish Mustard
2 - Onion Slices
5 - Romaine lettuce
5 - Tomato Slice
197 Calories for the entire shebang!

I'm just curious if you all count calories from low cal veggies (ie lettuce, spinach etc). I know many programs advise eating unlimited amts of these types of veggies when trying to lose weight, so interested to see what you all do. :)

By smrtyme on February 13, 2012 at 08:48 AM

It depends in your mindset.
Tthompie on here "decided" salad was zero calories for awhile when her scale started playing headgames.

Might as we just count them, if anything, it records your fiber consumption. They're so low, it won't impact your allotment much. Just be sure to record what you eat with them, like other veggies and dressing. ๐Ÿ˜Š

By Spicermommy on February 13, 2012 at 09:05 AM

I track everything. As a raw vegan, I would have almost nothing to account for at the end of the day if I didn't count veggies. They are a staple in my diet and though they may seem small amounts of calories individually, they definitely add up.

By hansonfamily97 on February 13, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile

It depends on the day for me. When I know I am not close to my total and the greens on my salad would only total 10-20 calories, I don't worry about it. I do weigh the veggies I chop and put on the salad though.

I don't. There are lots of veggies that fall under 10 calories a serving. Through out the day you will end up eating less than 100 calories of veggies. Eat them as much as you can. The benefits of the nutrients out weigh the calories.

Has anyone tried PB2? I have an addiction to peanut butter but I hate how many calories are in it. I've been thinking about ordering some PB2 because it has a lot less calories than regular peanut butter.

Curious. I've never heard of it.

By howlxii on February 13, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile

Good rule of thumb; if your goal is greater than a pleasure, stick to the goal. I'd cut out peanut butter completely until you are satisfied with your goal, but if PB2 has half or less the regular amount of calories (approx. 100cals per tablespoon.) I think you're in the clear. Good luck!

By kellymarie12208 on February 13, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile

It only has 45 cal per serving ( 2 tbsp). That's 145 less than the normal stuff.

By howlxii on February 13, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile

Just to clarify; you're good to go if it's less than 50 calories a tablespoon if you really need it. 50 cals per table spoon is still quite a bit of calories mind you.

My mom started tracking a week ago and lost four pounds! I am so happy for her!

She has fibromyalgia and has lost the will to exercise because of the chronic pain. :( she also has an unusually fast heart beat which makes the pain intolerable. She had a minor surgery and I got my peppy momma back as she likes to say. The doctors couldn't explain the relation and said it was a medical miracle. Although she is starting out slow I know she'll be where she wants to be in no time. (she used to do kickboxing and tae bo types of exercises so having fibro has been a stressful strain on her and my family in seeing her so frustrated)

A little positivity for everyone on this Monday. Stay determined!

Commencement here we come!

Does anyone have problems with the fat carb protein ratio. Mine says i am at 40 percent fat a day but I know its way off.

I wrote two days ago asking what it's suppose to be! I think it's a bit arbitrary. I wouldn't get too worried about it. Mine went off the chart on a day I had almonds and avocados. I only got one response to my inquiry so I think it's a part of the app no one is quite sure of. (hey LS, a little help here!! ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Avocados are very high in fat, but the good kind of fat, not quarter pounder with cheese fat.

As for the original poster's question. Take a couple days to compare the fat and calories you're logging to the nutritional label on your food. Either your ratios are correct after all, or you need to pick a more accurate food/serving off the list in livestrong.

Almonds are also good for you, but high in "good fats."

Buying a new scale tomorrow, any tips on what to get?

Many of us use & really like the Weight Watchers digital scale. It does down to the tenths, is very accurate, and also gives other stats (body fat, % water, etc).

That's awesome! Yes, I'll take one that says I've already lost my 20 lbs, please. So funny.

I did a lot if research and it seems Tanita scales are the best overall.

Something that tracks weight and fat % at a minimum is suggested so you know actual progress.

Add lemon, orange or cucumber slices.

Cucumber is nice. I have found that you get use to it and then eventually crave it.

I use only the bare minimum of Chrystal Light in my water. B/c I really limit my sugar, it doesn't take much for me to think its too sweet.

Stop sinking other stuff like soda or flavor water and you'll come to like it beside coffee (black) water is the only thing I drink

I add lime or home brewed green tea extract. I also drink at least one bottle with a packet of the citrus flavored Emergen-C in it. Lots of B vitamins and electrolytes in it (great for hangovers too)

Got my Valentine's Day chocolate shopping done at See's Candies and said "no" to a sample. Feeling wicked powerful right now. But tomorrow??

Nice! I went there too, and I'll admit that I did take the sample. Mmmmm. But it was a success because I didn't but myself a box! ๐Ÿ’

One day at a time. Keep that momentum going.

I like to think I'm saving a "sample" moment for when my wife or kids invariably offer. Rum Nougat, Mmm. Was that a knee tremor just now?

I have a serious addiction to gum...it helps stop those cravings though. I'm pretty sure I have enough ABC gum next to me in my trash can at work to hold an engine in a small car...

Hey Zac...don't you have a sore butt to go rub??? Lol jk
I'm pretty sure gum is just a temporary craving/fix to get me over my break-up withy exboyfriend (sugar).

Keep it up, everyone! This is definitely a good habit to get into! More healthy foods ---> More happiness!!
