Guys where can i get a heart rate monitor? In a sport shop or something?
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I just saw an app that works with a chest strap type heart monitor. It had good reviews. It's called ithlete. Haven't tired it myself though. Still debating.

A gym or heartratemonitorsusa.com has good deals. Amazon.

Taking my son out for a driving lesson. He wants to learn to drive a stick. Should be a memorable Memorial Day outting..
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I taught my daughter to drive stick 15 yrs ago she just bought her 3rd new car a stick. Jetta. I took her to cemeteries and vacant lots with hills to get the feel. She still laughs about how well i taught her for a mom!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Hopefully you wont have to make an appt for a new clutch tomorrow... Have fun! :)
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I remember doing that with my son. He now drives my prior car a Mazda3 stick. He is a very good driver.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
How fun! Great memories having my dad teach me how to drive stick. I even cried a few times lol :)
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I learned the stick as a kid. No one told me that both pedals should be done at the same time, so they kinda meet in the middle. I staled the car 100 times before I figured that out. Well ..... maybe I was told and it didn't connect? If I ever taught someone, I think I would show them by using my two hands on the dashboard or something.
Great to know how to use a stick, not many know that now-a-days. Less chances your car gets stolen too.
Good luck!

Bugaboo, I cried too. My boyfriend parked it on a hill and made me drive. But, the car kept going backwards until I had about 15 feet before we'd wind up in a ditch.
Then when I learned to drive it, my boyfriend made me drive between cardboard boxes. I leaned how to drive through any spot within an inch. I took my drivers test with that car and the man who gave me the test grabbed the wheel from me thinking I was going to hit the fire pump. I knocked his hand off with my elbow, and have him an evil look. He passed me.

First time I learned to drive a stick I ran my dad's 3/4 ton into our brick house! At 17 I bought my first truck which ended up being a stick! Lol fun times!!
I remember driving my boyfriends car back to his house (he was following in another vehicle). I was scared to change gears, so I did the whole 12 mile trip in first gear...averaging about 45 mph the whole time. Needless to say, he needed a new clutch. And transmission. Serves him right; he ended up marrying my best friend!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
That's great Super! We taught all 3 of ours to drive a stick in an old VW Bug on an dry lake in Baja!! We all still laugh about it hehe!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
My first car was a stick. I lived in Nashville at the time and had to carefully plan every trip so there was no way I would get stopped on an uphill!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Ahh yes the old emerg brake start on a hill. Remember learning that move from my dad in his F-250. Thanks dad!!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Oh my I remember learning stick, my dAd taught me And I was horrified, cried a lot but when I learned I drove really well and wish my car was a stick, miss my truck! Lol
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
How about a 3 on the tree... Now that was fun to learn how to drive!!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Ahhhh, Super....your post brought back memories. A boyfriend tried to teach me how to drive stick on his Mustang about 25 years ago. Not unsurprisingly, I never did hear from him again after that night.... *chuckling*
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
When I bought my current car I didn't know how to drive it. It's also a manual. It took me about a month to really start getting used to it without stalling every time u was in it! Lol
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I'm 28 and still can't drive a stick. It's embarrassing really. After destroying 2 transmissions on 2 different cars... I gave up! Lol
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Haha!! Great hearing everyone's stories. Definitely a memorable experience! I've always had or had access to at least 1 car that was a stick. I inherited my Grandpa's 64 Impala with the granny 3-speed on the column back in Iowa when I was 17. LOVED that car--prolly cuz it made me think of my Grandpa. :-)
And then my Ninja had a red Karmann Ghia convertible (that was a stick) when I met her. Hawt! Lol! :D
Anyway, today went pretty well. Empty parking lot at a Community college. Plenty of stalls and herky jerky, but he was gettin the hang by the time we left. Trouble is we live in Silicon Valley, so it'll be the parking lot to the Indy 500 when he hits the real world. Gonna need a couple more practice runs first!
Thanks for your stories!!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Thats awesome...you are a most excellent dad!! I'm glad you know what a 3 on the tree is.... Love the Ghia too!
My HS boyfriend taught me to drive stick on his "cherry" 1966 mustang. I promptly drove it into a barbed wire fence! I was horrified! He was totally cool. He then went & bought a beat up VW bug & continued to teach me on that! Lol! Have fun!

Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
What method should I use to drop weight on a treadmill? Should I do a low incline and higher speed or a high Incline with a lower speed? I have heard one is better for toning and one is better to loose weight but I don't know which one is for which!? Thanks!!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Get a heart rate monitor. I didn't have one for many months. When I got it, it clearly showed the program I used was not for me. I mixed it up and stay in my zone now.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Thanks I'll look for one, what kind is good I've never had one before!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I believe in doing speed drills on the treadmill. Download a good playlist and alternate songs between a song that you could use for a jog or light run and then a fast paced song where you are at an all out sprint. You could up the incline on a really slow but go getter song :) keep things interesting instead if your typical run on the "dread mill" :)
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Switch it up throughout the week-- slow / high incline; fast / no incline. You'll work different muscles and will avoid "junk miles" (same speed and distance that gets you to plateau quickly=no or little progress). Not to mention that a variety will keep it interesting!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Finally made it under 170 last week, today I was back to 172. Guess I shouldn't eat back my exercise calories anymore. Going to drink lots of water and 20k bike ride today. The scale better move in the morning!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
No worries K, weight fluctuations are gonna happen--water retention will constantly move the scale on a daily basis. Measurements and loner term weight loss (but especially measurements) are what matter most.
"Kenai" are you in or a fan of Alaska?
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
My most successful weight loss was when I stuck to the daily calorie allotment and did not "eat my exercise calories". Hope it helps.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Maybe just eat back half your calories. And the scale might be going up due to increased muscle mass. Don't get too discouraged.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I am in Alaska. Thought i was doing good by burning 960 calories today through jogging, biking from Wasilla to Palmer, and gardening. That was until I realized my favorite cheat dessert had 580 calories instead of 260. Yikes! Maybe I can still squeeze in an exercise video. The wind Picked up so it is too cold for biking more tonight.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Hey everyone! I'm just wondering if I can get some low cal drink ideas. On occasion I wanna feel drunk but not bloated. Ideas?

Wow, the stalker bunny must really like you. Any other important LS weekend recap?
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Moved to new apartment. This one has a. Nice gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi!!! It will be so nice!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I wasn't on much. Lots of family stuff. I'm worried about Cathy. She wanted to take a night off drinking but haven't heard from her. Guess LS after dark got raunchy but I missed it.
Glad you had fun. Must have flown? Thought you were in co?
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
@JK: We climbed multiple routes, one with this huge roof to pull over. I'm dangling by my arms for a bit as I try to get my feet somewhere to pull up onto the ledge. It's probably the hardest outdoor move I've ever pulled, and it took me four tries.
I also climbed this really exposed route where you just kept moving around corners and up to the next good features.
So cool and amazing views of greenery below!! A couple hundred feet in the air too. :-)
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Tmania, I live in northern VA (metro DC area), so I drove the 6.5 hours with a friend.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Can you post a pic from your climb? Welcome home by the way! My weekend was wonderfully spent doing active outdoorsy fun things with hubby! We are both exhausted and dreading the return to work in the morning!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
@chase I'm dreading work too. It was a nice weekend.
Pitt - not sure why I thought you lived out west. Sounds like a great climb!!!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
@Chase: My friend has some great pics on her camera of me on route. I'll post one once she sends them to me.
I'm not looking forward to going back to work either...ugh.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I suspect your dangling feet from the roof taking 4 tries has inspired HB for this week's WOD! Doesnt she have a no dangling rule? LOL
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
My weekend was great. Took the baby swimming for the first time. She loved it and I got the exercise without really doing much in the pool for a few hours lol
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Pitt--sounds like a great weekend! I did a lot of nothing--but it was needed!
Missed you! Glad you had an awesome weekend!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Keep it up! The first 72 hours are h e l l. :) It WILL pass!

I postponed it til tomorrow. Bf made a good point---wait til after the long weekend since we were all gonna be hanging out & stuff. I promise tomorrow's the day. Already opened up the quit app and started messing around with it.
I think it's gonna be a rough week! But I can do it. I've got to!
Thanks y'all!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Good luck to you Mapps!
What if you carry something like carrots, almonds or water to thrown in your mouth when you get the urge to smoke? I have luck superimposing a new habit over an old one. Maybe it's dumb advice (which you didn't even ask for) - I know smoking is more complex a thing to change. I admire you and will be wishing your change comes surely and swiftly.

Or carry a picture of someone with lung cancer and your kids picture next to it. Sounds harsh....I know.

What to eat while training for a half marathon whilst still losing weight?! Any suggestions?! Also...what to eat closer to race day? I am NOT an experienced runner AT ALL so I need all the help I can get.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I put on weight when I trained for a half but only because I thought I could eat anything whilst running. I'd just keep logging your intake and make sure you eat your full allowance plus some of the calories you burn. Healthy choices and no junk. Lots of white meat and veg. Complex carbs like brown rice and pasta. Good luck!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Hey LSMM...maybe I can help some-half marathons are my race of choice.
You can def continue to lose weight while training-eat clean real foods as much as possible..lots if fruit carbs and veggie carbs-try to limit processed foods.
Two days before the race I don't eat
Nuts or seeds ( Tummy might give you a problem ) drink lots and lots of water.
The day before the race -I eat a lot of baked chicken and pasta( til you full-not stuffed) -again lots of water.
Morning of...and this is the hard part-TRY to get up 3 hrs before race time so you have plenty of time to eat have coffee and go to the bathroom....I always have a plain pita bread with a banana inside .....works for me...then remember to take your GU gel packs-for a half you will need two.( vanilla bean is my fav flavor) this will keep you fueled for the entire race!!!! Good luck- I will be excited to hear all about it!!!!'
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I lost weight while training. I eat my allowed calories and then I eat back half of my running calories. I make a point to choose healthier foods and eat more protein and lots of healthy carbs. I usually have something sweet everyday, mostly dark chocolate. If I don't then I feel deprived. Before my long runs/races I usually eat Greek yogurt and a banana or PB on a wheat bagel and my coffee. I always drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
Good luck!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Ooh. Some good suggestions. Thanks a lot. I will let you know how it goes.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
CHALLENGE!! 30 second jog in place + 30 second knee ups.
Done, thanks for the quick break from work. Good short challenge.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
So I started the day feeling discouraged at my gain and I am ending the day proud of my run:) well wog. And having a lot of calories left over. I didn't mindlessly eat while home with my kids. :) so I'll call today a success!
Glad your day ended on a much more positive note than this a.m.!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Thanks! I am home tomorrow with my son since he is still running a fever but I will stay positive. I don't like it when I get down, especially when it's out of my control.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Way to turn the day around! I hope your son feels better soon.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Well, time for the confession. Ugh. Stressful event (non-injury car accident) + big projects coming due this week = Jack in the Box. 1200 calories later and what hurt the most was entering that data into LS. Ugh.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
A lot of us had overage this weekend! Chin up & start again tomorrow. Glad you're ok!
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
At least you're admitting it. Tomorrow is a new day!! Hope things get better for you soon :)
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
Someone posted a few days ago about their goal to walk 1000 miles in a year. That inspired me. When I was out walking this morning, I decided that is also my goal over the next year, starting today.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
What a goal, I have already run 500 miles so far this year.
Posted via LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker Mobile
I missed my run-walk so I had to pull out some punishment which for
Me is p90x. My daughter (5 yrs) was playing doing some with me when she says " mom I don't think those girls
Are real", I ask her why, she says" I have never seen anyone who looks like that or can do that ". Hehe, that made me smile...

Calorie counting...so how balanced do the calories need to be throughout the day? I noticed they gradually increase until at night I eat the most...is that ok or should i try and eat more in the morning and afternoon? Does it matter as long as I stay within my happy number?
