All of the Participants agree that they have learned about portion control, using a hunger scale to determine their hunger level and most of all being accountable.  Both of the diets received very high grades.  They both teach healthy eating habits which can clearly be the foundation for a healthier lifestyle in the future.  Overall Diet Face Off 2 was a great success!

Well, I don't know about you, but I am impressed.  My wife didn't think I would be dedicated to this challenge, but I kicked her hiney.  I have made some major improvements in the way I eat.  No more junk food.  Well I can't say that I have totally cut out all junk food.  But if you were to compare it to what I used to eat, then you would say I really changed my way of eating.  Yeah, I still like my pizza, cheese burgers and fried chicken.  I haven't had the fried chicken yet, but I now know that I need to watch my portions, eat more fresh foods and keep my calorie count down.

I would really recommend weight watchers to people.  Ruth and I never really watched what we were eating.  We just ate, and ate and ate.  Enjoying everything.  We have found new things to enjoy.  I do have one thing to say about weight watchers.  You really need to go to the meetings.  And tracking what you are eating is key.  I found myself mainly tracking my food on the livestrong daily plate site.  I like that application on the itouch/iphone.  I can track immediately and not try to recount what I ate that day.  So, I can continue using that to watch what I am eating.

I have friends that have really noticed the change.  And I have recommended the livestrong organization to friends and family.  I think that what you did for all of us is really awesome.  You jump started a new way of living.  My doctor was really impressed at the weight I lost, and my eating habits has reduced my cholesterol.  He asked what I was doing, and I told him weight watchers.

So exercise was always a challenge for Ruthie and me.  Our hours are not real conducive to getting out to a gym.  We did occasionally make time to ride a bike or walk, but it was never consistent.  I walk all day at work, so atleast I got in 4-5 miles a day.  I would have to say that making the big change in my eating habits must have been the reason I lost 28 lbs.  I wonder what it would have been if we would have exercised more. hmm??

Well this has been a great education.  I appreciate everyone at livestrong for giving us the opportunity and challenge to make a change.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH.  John

whew......
I really feel like I don't want this to end.  Even though it is over, I am still continuing to watch what I am eating and mind my portions.  Even my son is keeping a watchful eye on me, last night I could have gone loco on a bowl of M&M peanuts.  You have no idea how good they tasted.  He was on me like....you know.

I would like to say this about the journey.  I have loved it and I can't stop talking to my friends and family about how amazing it has been.  Yeah, I didn't do as well as I would have liked, but hey....a loss is a loss and I learned alot.  On Weight Watchers it's all about portion control.  I had NO control before. haha.  John and I used to eat whatever we wanted and that could add up to 3,000 calories in a day, easy.  We are definitely eating more veggies and fruit, more whole grains and keeping our "take-out" meals to a minimum, like never.  But not seriously, maybe once in a while.

Weight Watchers has been a great diet for John and me.  The meetings are really a key factor to the success.  It is amazing how many people have been successful on weight watchers. Yeah, there are alot that are not, that is a consistent mantra.  But I do believe that for us, we have and will continue to use the tools we learned and make healthy choices.  I noticed that when I went out to dinner the first night the challenge was over, I still ordered something that would not be off the charts points wise.  I had salmon, and I still took half home for the next day.  See, portion control is key.  And I was full, so no loss in my mind at all.  Water is now a daily part of my life.  Can't seem to go anywhere with out a bottle or two handy.  I even have them rolling around in my car.  Exercise has still been my downfall.  No excuses, I just don't do it.  I get motivated for a few days and then I slack off.  I don't know what it is.  I feel great when I do!  I am just a lazy slug I guess.  But I am really pleased with the inches I lost.

The Livestrong website and team have been awesome!!!  I really appreciate their enthusiasm for what they are doing.  WOW, they are dedicated to helping each and every one of us make an impact in our lives to be more healthy.  YOU GUYS ROCK!!!   I will continue to post and keep track of my progress.

To all my fellow DFO2 participants.  I applaud you all.  Congrats and kudos to a great 9 weeks, and yay to weddings that happened along the way.  We all made a change for the better and we have learned some great lessons that will shape who we are becoming.

Thank you for all your patience, and encouragement, xoxo, ruth

Height: 6'4"

Starting Weight: 278lbs - Ending Weight: 265lbs
Starting Bodyfat: 36% - Ending Bodyfat: 31%

Wow, what a ride! The last 10 weeks have flown by. I have a bittersweet feeling about the end. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to participate, but I'm also a little glad it's over and I don't need to be in the spotlight for a while.

As for the program, Weight Watchers is great. It's not so much a diet as a lifestyle adjustment. At it's core, he program teaches making quality food choices and portion control. You also get the support of other members at your local meetings. You weigh in once a week, but in most areas, you can attend as many meetings as you like. Currently, the best value is getting a monthly pass for $39. (as of 10/1/09)

If you're not a meetings person, you can also do the program online. The upside to the online service is that the same money will get you 3 months of access. Also, if you're a guy, the weight watchers site tailors itself to you so you don't have to weed through articles on things you're not interested in. Even the success stories are all men. You can also access the site on your mobile via their mobile site or the WeightWatchers iPhone app.

I want to thank everyone involved with the Diet Face Off. Suzy, Krisserin, Thomas, and the crew at LiveStrong.com, the other participants - great work guys!, and the DFO followers. If they do this again, I highly recommend submitting yourself for it. It was a blast! read more

Well, we've made it too the end of the Diet Face off. It's good and bad for me. I enjoyed doing it for ther most part, although I'm a little disappointed with my results. During the last couple of weeks my workload among other things got in the way of my workouts and necessitated less than optimal food choices. I had grand visions of 3-5lbs a week losses, but it was simply not to be. Although, I have managed to lose just over a pound a week while on the DFO. I'll take that and be happy with it. A loss, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction. My other measurements tell a more complete story. Since we started this I have dropped 5% body fat and 4 inches from my waist. My arms and legs have also gotten bigger with the working out, so theres a plus as well.

As for the Diet Face Off itself, and Livestrong.com, I have enjoyed the challenge of logging to my plate, blogging and video diaries each week. On the other hand, I'm actually a little glad it's over. I feel like, between my contests at work and livestrong, I have been doing all my struggling under a spotlight and I'll actually be glad to get into the dark for a little while. I'll still be loggin food. I may even blog here and there, and I know my friends want me to stop twittering all my food. :-)

Overall, I think Weight Watchers is a fantastic program. It's easy to follow, easy to stick to, and unlike some fad diets, gives you the tools to make life changes versus quick fixes. The meetings are as good as the meeting leader, and I was fortunate enough to have a great one in Melissa. She brings a warmth and humor to the meetings that is very refreshing, especially at 8am on Saturday morning. If you're not meeting inclined, you can also follow the weight watchers program online at weightwatchers.com. Either way, it's a great program and well worth checking out if you need to lose a few (or more) pounds.

Starting weight: 237.8
Todays weight: 217.8
Total lost 20lbs
Total lost this week 1.4

Can you see I have on my (use to be tight) now baggy jeans. I just purchased a new pair and the store I shop at has them sized as 1, 2, 3 and so on. These are a 3 and I just bought a 2. Hmmm....one more size and I won't be able to shop at the larger ladies store. Now that is something to celebrate.
My crazy week is over but still busy with work and adopting a teenager with special needs. That is moving along quite fast. It's a very good thing because she'll keep me hopping and active. We ate a ton of leftovers this week. Cooked only on Sunday because of running all day Saturday. Cooked enough to get us to Wednesday. I have to fend for myself tonight. Looks like a weight watchers meal from the freezer.
This journey has been so exciting and to have 20lbs off is a great feeling. I still have 35 more I'd like to continue to lose so I am not quitting after this is over.
I have so enjoyed this challenge and glad to have had an opportunity to participate. If I can do this anyone can even us "older" gals. Who said men lose it quicker than us. We can do the same!
I plan on continuing to log my food so keep up with me!

Well, here we are, week 9.
starting weight - 228 lbs
current weight -  204.8 lbs
weight loss this week - 1.2lb
total lost to date - 23.2 lbs

As we end this thing, I must say that I am really proud of what I did.  I have looked at my eating habits, preferences, etc. and really made some changes. My wife says I look HOT!

I just had a check up at the doctors office and my bad cholesterol is down 23 points. YAY!  If for nothing else, that is worth all the hard work.  I probably won't ever be off my blood pressure medicine, it's kinda hereditary, Dad has it too.  But I am really pleased with how weight watchers has worked for me and my wife.  We have paid attention to adding more fruits and veggies, less processed foods.  Cooking more at home, and having one evening out to dinner a week.  Picking more foods that are better for us calorie wise.  We used to consume huge amounts of calories each day with out thought.

Trying to exercise is still a difficult thing for us.  Our time is very limited after work.  With kids and homework, dinner, and getting some rest, it doesn't leave much time.  But....we still try to.  I usually get in 4.3 miles a day walking at work.

I really enjoy my weight watchers meetings.  We get some good ideas for recipes, and it keeps you focused.  You need that push sometimes.  I don't usually track in the little book they give, I track on the daily plate every day.  That application is perfect for on the go tracking.

well, enough for now.  I really appreciate livestrong.com for giving my wife and I the opportunity to start a new program, or journey in our life.  We have made some real LIFE changes.
thanks again, John

Week 9

This Week- 227.4
Change since last week- 2.4

Loss since start  13.6

A really positive week for me, I lost 2.4 pds! There were
no outside distractions, like going out with friends or big
food spreads at work and that really made a difference.  I
stayed to/close my WW points total everyday and planned AHEAD
each day to bring meals to work.  The real change that I made to
my diet was to stop eating red meat this week.  I saw how many
points it was "costing" me on WW so I skipped it entirely and
went with chicken/fish/turkey and introduced beans in the
rotation.  Honestly, I didn't miss red meat at all.  Maybe now that the
summer's over and there are no more barbecues I don't think about
burgers/steaks as much.

Continued my workout regime at the gym and bike riding.  Worked
out at total of 4 days this week. Have switched over to the Hammer
Strength machines and I like them a lot, but I spend most of my
workouts on the Lifecycles, 1/2 hour which is usually equal to
about 10 miles.

Hope everyone else in the DFO had a great week.  Good Luck all!

Peter

Starting Weight: 145
Weight This Week: 137.6
Weight Lost This Week: 0 lb
Total Weight Lost: 7.4 lbs

I can hardly believe the Diet Face Off is over.I am thrilled with my weight loss total.  This week I didn’t gain or lose, holding steady at 137.6I was hoping for 130-135, but am really happy where I am.  I have learned so much about food and being prepared to eat healthfully versus just grabbing something on the go.  I am so much more conscious of what I put in my mouth now!  I also have learned what a difference really making work outs a priority is.I see the most results on the scale when I eat well and boost my activity – duh!

The wedding is this Saturday!  I am not working this week, just running around town taking care of last minute errands.  I am going to be working out with my trainer, Thomas Roe M-Th @ 7am just to get the last few days of amazing work outs.I am curious to see if I will drop anymore weight just with the craziness of the week.

This has been a wonderful experience for me.  I have learned so much – things that I knew, just had not applied to my daily life.  I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity!

Thank You LIVESTRONG!
Thank You Weight Watchers Team!
Thank You Thomas!!
