...and just like the "T" word, it should be eliminated.
It confuses people into thinking that they can eat whatever they want in order to "boost" the metabolism.
I can't tell you how many people in my class have said "well, I'm in starvation mode so I figured I could eat (insert junk here) which is completely backwards thinking. Orignally, it MAY have been used to try to get people to eat healthier, but many I know now use it an excuse to eat incorrectly.
Ultimately, as as the article points out its calorie in vs. calorie out.

Anorexia is an eating disorder...and starvation is one of many symptoms associated with the disorder. Anorexia is a result of other issues, generally, from what I've read and researched, due to mental and/or emotional issues.

Ok, now I'm really confused. So what is the technical difference between "starvation mode" and "f-ing up your metabolism by undereating"?

LOL....for you and me and a host of others, nothing. We've also probably been known to say we'd like to have muscle "tone."

Seriously, though, I guess it's sort of like calling every tissue a Kleenex. To people with a greater level of knowledge, it's different.

So is it mostly a linguistic issue? Is it just bad taste to speak of starvation if you deliberately reduce your calorie intake as part of a middle-class western lifestyle etc? Shouldn't we say "starvation" because it sends the wrong message to hard-core dieters who might feel they need to binge-eat themselves out of "starvation"?

So, whatever you call it, does extreme dieting result in a plateau or not?

Can't answer these...maybe MoLowe or someone else will see this and contribute more.

For me, it did.

It may not be officially 'starvation mode'... but if you eat too few calories, doesn't your metabolism slow down to make up for it... which would then defeat the whole purpose of eating less than necessary?
