Is there a chance in hell that there are any helpful suggestions pertaining to that dreaded Thanksgiving dinner?

I have a close place in my heart for the meals my mother makes on this day and the food is to die for, but is there any type of preparation for the before/after affects of the meal? (I am sure there will be a lot of calories/fats/sugars/evil consumed that Thursday.

I am just worried that I'll end up binging or eating something that will cause a downward spiral with my weight and diet. I don't want to ruin the hard work in one day, but I don't want to give up that meal either (yummy). Please help!

Why is it so hard to eat the comfort foods and lose weight?

Darn right.

My approach is not for everyone, because you have to be able to do it without shaming yourself into eating more afterward. But there are a few days a year when I definitely do not "diet". Thanksgiving is one of those days. I eat what I want that day even if that includes 3 different kinds of pie. Then the next day I get back on the calorie-cutting track.

It's one day, just enjoy it. What you eat or don't eat in one day doesn't matter nearly as much as what you eat over several days. Let it all balance out.

I agree...Thanksgiving is a holiday consumed by food...don't guilt yourself. Just enjoy the day, be in the moment, and the next day, back on the wagon!

The guilt's the problem - not the food!

You only live with the guilt that you give yourself.

That's up to you and no one else.

I did REALLY well last turkey day. I weighed my turkey, I took small portions of everything, including the pies, I drank lots of water, and not only did I feel full without that open the top button of the pants feeling, I did NOT feel guilty!

I can only hope to do as well this go 'round....
