I started last Thursday and have been doing well. No side effects yet but I have also been tracking what I eat very carefully.

My friend told me that she's been on it since Friday of last week and it has been making her GO to the bathroom. She hasn't reported any weightloss yet though.

I'm not sure that this pill will be the solution for me, as I am already eating lowfat (30g or less/day) during the weekdays. Maybe I could use it for the weekend when I have a higher fat intake and when I know I'll be in the house all day.

Does anyone know how long you can take these pills?

Already found the magic pill....

Its called realistic goals, eating more frequently, not being overly restrictive on calories or fat, eating a good balance of different foods with fiber, moving, moving weight, and proper rest.

This magic pill works wonders.

Its funny that in the US now people are told they can take shortcuts for almost anything in life except notably their career/work lives...they need to be working 60+ hours a week and obsessive about making rich people richer.....

...Im absolutely shocked by how many people buy this .....

No wonder the stock market is at record highs, rich people are richer than ever and nowone seems to have any time for themselves or their families.

From what I hear, if you are not eating an extremely low fat diet while taking Alli, you had better be wearing some Depends. The fat that is not being absorbed has to go somewhere. I think I'll buy stock in the company that makes Depends, LOL.

Also, remember that if you are not absorbing fat you are not absorbing fat soluable vitamins which are vitamins A,D,E, and K.

When you are losing weight vitamin A is important in reducing sagging skin, not to mention a myriad of other things.
Vitamin D is important for bones and diabetes + much more.
What doesn't E help?!?!?!
K is for strong bones, clotting, healing, and liver function.

I'll absorb my vitamins, thank you very much!

I've been taking Alli for 3 days now. No side effects. I really think that for me it is all about helping me with my willpower. I eat a low-fat diet most of the time. But then when I splurge I tend to REALLY splurge. I can't eat a few chips or a little candy or cake - I eat a LOT. With this, I know that if I go overboard there will be consequenses - immediate consequenses. Not 'maybe I'll gain a pound or two. I can always lose it later' kind of consequenses.

Maybe that makes me weak or whatever - but if this pill can help me overcome that problem - at least long enough to get back to my goal weight - then I will take the pill. I know that when I reach my goal I will still have a problem and need to find a new solution. I have no intention of staying on this medication forever. But I'm hopefull that my new lean body will be motivation enough to keep me moving and eating properly.

Careful, though. Some people have reported that the side effects didn't show up for a week or two. Most people report an orangish oily liquid that just comes out of nowhere and runs down your legs when you're least expecting it. Which is why they say to wear pads (big ones) or dark pants and to carry an extra pair of underwear with you.

I think these things are dangerous. And ridiculous. Like BadKnee said, when you block one type of fat, you're going to block a whole slew of other things as well, things your body needs.

People, just make healthy choices, good decisions, watch your calories and your fats (yourself... do it yourself without using a pill to do it for you) and forget about these quick-fix 'miracle' cures that, in the long run, will probably do more harm than good.

We're not being negative, we're being realistic. And concerned. This is going to be another one of those pills, just like the rest of them are, that will later come out with a whole slew of reasons not to take it.

That's the way it always happens.

When you take something that causes your body to "refuse" certain elements of food, you can make damn sure you're gonna deprive yourself of other nutrients as well. Nutrients your body needs. It's just not natural to force your body to go against what it's supposed to do.

I wish luck to those that want to try these things, too. Because you're probably gonna need it.

You said yourself right here in another thread...

"Its called controlling yourself and eating in moderation!"

Bingo. That's the bottom line. If you eat healthy and watch your calories and watch how much fat you consume and eat a variety of healthy foods, you don't NEED pills. Unless, of course, you have a medical condition or some other type of medical issue that you need PRESCRIPTION drugs for, under the supervision of a doctor.

And just to add, I really don't mean to sound condescending or insulting or anything like that. It's just I become really concerned when people are "suckered" into this crap that THEY put out there to prey on people who are so desperate to lose weight that they'll try anything. And believe me, I've BEEN there. I tried every freaking diet pill there was until I finally found my own balance and created a lifestyle that I can live with. And it sickens me, to tell you the truth. THEY sicken me, the companies that make this crap. They don't want to help people, it's all about money.

Tell me......... how much does one jar or bottle or whatever of this Alli cost? $15? $20? Or is it more like $40 and $50? Or beyond? I'm curious.

I've been taking Alli since last Friday and I haven't had any side effects. In the many booklets that came in the starter kit it mentions several times the importance of taking a multi-vitamin nightly.

I think it sucks that people are making a huge deal over side effects that not everyone will experience. Lots of people take prescription or over the counter medicine that has worse side effects and as we all know people respond to medicine differently.

Yes, I agree with that. And not everyone will experience side-effects. I'm just so worried that this is just another company to prey on us. You see what I mean? I don't mean to be all crappy about it, I really don't. I perfectly understand the want and the need to have some 'help'. But what concerns me the most is what BadKnee said - if you force your body to reject certain nutrients from food (fat, whatever) then you may be depriving yourself of things you need as well.

That's the point I'm trying to make.

Like I said above, I've been there with taking "diet" pills and this drug and that drug to help me lose weight. But dammit, when I stopped buying into that crap and started taking responsibility for myself, that's when I started to lose weight. I was 220 pounds. I'm now 133. I'm going on year 3 of keeping it off. And I did it myself without the help of all of this crazy stuff floating around out there. I used to be the world's most lazy and undisciplined person. If I can do it, anyone can. With, again, the exception of those that have a medical condition that may prevent them from losing the weight they need.

I have to agree with LindaE here. No, not everyone will experience side effects, but the sad truth is, MOST will (go ahead and do some searching/reading online from people who have used it--and NOT on sites sponsored by the makers of the product). Not a couple, not a few, not a handful...I haven't talked to anyone who has been taking this stuff for more than a month who did NOT have the icky side effects.

I've spoken with multiple people taking Alli (or its prescription-strength quivalent, Xenical--same thing, just the OTC one is half the dose). Everyone on Alli who said they didn't have any side effects after the first few days or week eventually ended up having them later on. Not only that, but even after they stopped taking it, they said it took more than a week for the effects to stop.

By "effects," I'm talking baout the orange-ish liquid anal discharge. Yum. It's said to be odorless, so it's not as if you crapped your pants, but it's still pretty gross. Many did say it was running down their leg, not just soaking into clothing. They also said they didn't even feel it coming out and didn't know it was there until they either stood up and felt it trickle down their leg or they went to the bathroom and saw the stuff in their pants/underwear.

I've also spoken to a few people who were taking it along with a lowfat diet. They each claimed to be eating maybe 30g fat a day (I can't be 100% sure if they were being completely honest, but I don't know why they would lie). They got the orange leakage as well after a few weeks on the pills.

And so, as previously stated, if you are taking it or are going to take it, I'd HIGHLY suggest you wear heavy absorbent pads and carry extra underwear in your purse and pants in your car.

This isn't meant to discourage people from using it--just spreading information. Everyone should be made very aware of the potential effects and what to do about them.

But if orange runny anal leakage is something you're willing to put up with to lose weight, then have at it! No anal leakage for me, though, thanks :) I'd rather have to buy new pants because mine are gettng too big, not because they've been stained by an orange oily mess
