Why?

John has turned the tragedy of losing his mom to breast cancer into a personal mission to help save lives - by running, by using his creativity to spread the word and inspire others. He inspires me!

How do they give?

John made a promise to his mom 2 days before she died. She knew he couldn't save her, so she asked him to save other women from breast cancer. Their story is captured on www.5k35.com. The name 5K35 was the oncology room in which she passed away in Portland, OR - but it represents the message, "give a little extra" now. He combined his passion for the Web, running and storytelling to create the 5K35 campaign which raises $$ for the LAF and Komen. I love that its something our kids love too.

Hi John,

Thank you so much, and thank you also for all you do to support cancer research and increase awareness. May God continue to give you the strength and guidance as you continue to work and volunteer and bless you and your family! I sure would like to meet you and everyone someday as all your stories have been so wonderful and inspiring and it has been a great pleasure during this experience to 'meet' each of you. All my best. Todd
