The Green Giant was initially created as a part of the logo for the Minnesota Valley Canning Company and named after a very large variety of pea. He first appeared in the company's advertising in 1928. Over time, the Green Giant became so popular that in 1930 the company was renamed in his honor. The company first began offering fresh vegetables in 2009, and their products now include green beans, plain and in garlic butter, as part of their Green Giant Fresh line.
