About This Group

This is a group for people with 100 pounds or more to lose, though we are inclusive and anyone can join. Most of us have tried enough diets to realize they don't work for the long-term and are embracing a lifestyle change. This is a place to come to discuss our special challenges and share stories, kindness, support, inspiration, and the wisdom we've gained in our journeys with each other. "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

Really About to give UP

posted by L_ALICIA on 10:45 am

Hello guys, I have not been on the forum for 822 days now.  I am quite miserable as I have gained 120 pounds in the last 1  1/2 years.  I am desperately in need to lose weight. I have no energy and my spirits are completely bummed at this time.  My weight gain has been coupled with a blight of depression attributed to career change and life stressors.  I am willing to do any and everything short of surgery (last resort) to get this weight off.  I am open for any suggestions.

Figure out what you can do.  Give yourself a starting calorie number, track daily and eat whatever you want, as long as you stay in that calorie range.  Or do a set amount of exercise every x many days.  Or cut back something you know in the long run you can do without.

Don't feel bad for the things you eat or what you do.  If it's walking, that's fine.  If it's cutting out soda, that's great!  If it's eating 1500 calories of just candy bars, then it's all good.  The most important thing is to get used to doing something you're willing to do.  Take your first step and keep with it.  Once you're comfortable with that step, add another.  If you didn't add in a workout, add one.  Or take out fast food.  Or make a goal to cook at least 2 meals a week without using packages or cans.

It doesn't matter!  Really!  As long as the things you add are good, healthy changes that you know you will be able to continue with, do it!  There are no right or wrong steps.  Be responsible to yourself, give yourself challenges that don't make you feel bad.  Most of all, keep up with it.  Don't do an hour of exercise every day if you know you won't complete it.  Can you promise 3 days a week?  2?  Do ~something~ and start to change your life.

Hi There and welcome
I say in addition to Noressa up there, sit down with yourself and write. Sit think and write without guilt. Without guilt or remorse. Identify what foods have you been eating that you think cause weight gain, if it is food. What foods do you feel good when you eat, that are not a portion control or quantity issue. Write it down.

Think about activity, and of what you might like to do, even if you cant do it pain free right now. Think of what meals you eat now, and which ones are fine. Like, maybe right now your breakfast is just fine and does not need changing. You can use a calorie calculator at FreeDieting.com to see the calorie amount of maintaining your weight, and what it would take to say lose 1 or 2 pounds a week.

Write honestly. I know you say you are willing to do anything short of surgery, but write and be specific. What ARE you really willing to do? And what are you really NOT willing to do? Its ok if you are NOT in some areas.

I have foods and drink I am NOT willing to give up, and I think its good to just be honest with yourself starting now. FIgure out what is the easiest thing for you to cut back on, what is the easiest activity you can do, and keep doing? There are some calorie cutting things that one can barely feel. I use Smart Squeeze instead of butter every day for example, not that its everyones option, but it cuts about 100 calories in the morning, easily. I use sugar free pancake syrup and that cuts another 50 or 100 or so. Small things like that. See what you can cut out of your eating that will be little things here and there. It can make a difference.

Add 15 minutes here and there of activity, even a walk in Target, coupled with cutting back on certain foods, and you will be making progress even before you officially start.

There are four  things to remember
1) Your current lifestyle got you where you are; at least mine did!
2) A change in lifestyle will get you where you want to be
3) Log your food intake (it will scare the *&^& out of you)
4) Eat less; Eat healthy and MOVE MORE (the last is in caps cause it is the one most of us have forgotten in out current (past for those who have reached goal) lifestyle)

Blessings on your journey.  I can tell you it is possible to losr 100 pounds I was 290 two years and four months ago I am 191 today (had been 177 till I forgot to live the lifestyle I want to live!)

Depression can really mess up a healthy life style. I should know; I've been struggling with it for all of my life. I lost 40 pounds once. I fell into a deep depression and gained 88 pounds.

Make sure you find a good doctor that is willing to listen to you and have the knowledge to know  whether or not you need an anti-depressant. Also find a good therapist, physchologist or counselor that will help you with the social and emotional aspects of your life.

Exercise. It's true what they say. Exercise releases endorphines and lifts your mood. Paired with a healthy diet, it has eradicated depression in many people. Heck, it may even completely get rid of yours!

Good luck on your journey. We're here to offer you help!

You have to start somewhere.. dont worry about the mistakes you have made.. just look forward and take it 1 day at a time.. you have to have a starting point.. If you dont start how will you succeed??? Just make the decision!!  You are 1 decision away from becoming the person you want to be.. you just have to make the DECISION!!!!! Believe in yourself!! If you BELIEVE you will ACHIEVE!!!!
