For those of you not in NY (like me), wouldn't it be nice to have the calories posted
right there in front of your face? It would definitely make me think twice:

I never heard of that! That's a great idea. I work at a Starbucks and have pretty much memorized the nutrition information over the years. I feel really bad when people think they're ordering something good, and it still has 500 calories.
Hopefully the restaurants won't strike it down.
Raina, me too! The funny thing is the women that asked for the old menus with no calorie counts on them AFTER they already saw how much is in everything. Ppl just want to ignore the fact that they're putting junk in their bodies. I mean when i eat bad (say like my baked potato today) I KNOW its bad, I don't try to lie to myself.
I am so excited for when they do this in Seattle!!
I have to admit, I'm kind of angry after reading this article though! I can't believe some people are fighting this law. Why would you want to live in denial???? It's would be like areguing for not putting cancer warnings on cigarettes. that's fine if you want to be unhealthy (no offense to smokers!!!) but don't force all the rest of us to live in ignorance too.
Sorry - had to rant. Hope no one is offended.
I was in NYC for business a couple months ago and saw those calorie signs on the menu at Starbucks - and I haven't touched a scone since! I hope they do this at more restaurants around the country soon, it really makes you think twice about what you're ordering!
What a great idea!!!!!! I hope AZ catches on and starts posting calorie counts!
Thanks for the article!
what shocks me is that some people don't want to see it...i guess ignorance really is bliss.
me? i agree that we should know everything about the food, be totally informed. they post it on stuff we buy at the grocery store, nothing should be different at a restaurant.
I think they need to make this a nationwide requirement! I hate having to "guesstimate" or look up calories on the internet for different reaturants all the time. And I guarantee that putting those nutrition labels on would REALLY help a lot of people to stop eating crap. I mean would ANYONE order the Chili's! fajitas if they knew they were 970 calories in it? I think not.
I think restaurants would also be forced to make their entrees healthier. Like, does a meal seriously need 2,000 mg of sodium to taste good? NO! I think nutrition labeling would make all of us much more accountable.
I totally can't wait either and am PRAYING this will go nationwide!
ON a good note, I saw this survey that asked peoples' opinion of the article and it said 88% of the people who took the survey agree it's a good idea and will lead to smarter choices.
So.... maybe the people who reacted so negatively are the minority? I hope so!
I also think this is such a great idea. Half the reason people get so over weight is because they just don't know how many calories are in things and they are too focused on words like low-fat, light, ect that they think they are getting something healthy when in fact it's pretty loaded with something else...
I agree with an- sooo many food items/restaurants ect use way too much sodium in their recipes, too much cheese, ect and although this is "what sells" and this is what "people like"
I also agree with you marzi- nutritional information is put on food items we but at a super market, why not at a restaurant?!?!
