Thank you for replying and sending your support and kind words. Today was a good day. Whew. It was a rough 3 days. I am inspired by you ALL!! Mucho Blessings....(and thanks over the rainbow!!) Wynne....
Today was my weigh in with my speedo challenge buddy. We both were scared. But we stopped what we were doing and took our medicine like men...sort of. When my buddy got on the scales, he had gain 4 lbs for the week. Then it was my turn.....Hah!..take that fat, and carbs....lost 6 pounds for the week. Whew..dodge the speedo bet another week. That is a total of 16 pounds down. I like it....sorrry..should have been more humble.. Next week might be a different story...
WHOOPIE!!! I am thrilled for you!! See, how last week it was a different story???!! You turned it around! Thank goodness, more distance between you and that speedo!!! 16 pounds down? Why Cervantis??? I be doing the Happy Dance for YOU!! That is wonderful! So happy for you! Wynne
Went wwaayyy over my carbs today but I just couldn't resist the m&m's. They were screaming my name!! I said no for a long time until I gave into one, then two, then three...I swear this Atkin's thing is way harder than I thought it was going to be. I thought I didn't have much a sweet tooth til I had to completely give all sweets up. Now I really notice how often I've had then in the past. I planned on not working out today but since I'm over my carbs majorly I decided to do a yoga video. But even that hasn't made the guilt go away. See Wynne, you are not alone. It's 6:30 and I'm going to do my best not to eat for the rest of the evening. I definitely don't need to. Just sip on a cup of green tea later and ONLY green tea. Jesus, please help me not binge tonight. Give me self control for just this one night!! Hope everyone had a fun, healthy day!
Good luck, Erica! I know you can do this and hope that everything goes great! No matter what, you're a rock star and have been working really hard.
I appreciate your support. I wish I would have come on here before I stepped into the kitchen. Before bed I actually did feel hungry so I made a small plate of the baked chicken I made for dinner...then I made a bowl of cereal-because I haven't had one in over a month! Well...I made another bowl. Then I thought well crap I'm not only over my carb intake but now I'm over my calories too. So I got a fudge bar :( I wasn't given the spirit of self control last night. I haven't been eating sweets in a long time and yesterday with the m&m's, two bowls of cereal, and a fudge bar, I think I completely over did it. I hate how I feel mornings after a day like yesterday. Hopefully today will be better.
Having a very very touch time. Today is a new day. Just checking in. Not giving up. my weight is way up. Having binging problems. Wynne
Sorry to hear you're having a hard time. Hang in there. I am up four pounds too. It makes me feel better to know that it's more than likely not so much my eating than it is my body retaining water. Remember that one pound is 3500 calories. So unless you're eating 3500 calories OVER your allowed intake it's likely it's not you're over eating that's causing the gain. I know I can eat alot but I also know I haven't been eating 14,000 calories over my intake. When we binge it really effects our emotional and mental state than anything(but obviously continuous bingeing will cause weight gain). Hope you feel better! I have a problem with bingeing too so you're not alone. No one's home right now and I was actually in the kitchen trying to find something I could snack on even though I'm not even hungry! Have a Nice Day! God Bless!
I worked out yesterday and was within my calories due to a small breakfast AND dinner but had Indian buffet for lunch at about 1,000 calories full of badness. So even being in my calories, all the bad food I was *up* 2 pounds this morning from yesterday morning. Just remember, it's a small setback and your weight being way up like ericamisamerica is not real weight. So get back on the horse, get some water flushing out all the sodium from the binges, and you'll be back on track by the end of the week. Good luck!
we as a group can all relate it seems to the binging moments. this will pass. you are a strong person and can get over this little hiccup. i can relate to the binging moments, but i know that i have my group of shorties to talk to and "confess" my food sins to. we are here when and if you need us, and probably when you don't!.
do not give up--drink your good fluids, don't obsess over the scale and you'll amaze yourself. :)
Had a mini binge yesterday too . . . did good all day till I ate an early supper and then ate 3 cinnamon rolls after(small but still)! So was working on letting it go, and asked my girlfriend to go for a walk. So when she was like . . . we're going 5 miles! I figured it was a sign, that it's ok to over do it every now and then, just work it off! Today was weigh in day, and although i felt like I lost, was a little scared due to last night. Down 1.8 lbs!! Yeah So you do just have to forgive yourself, and move forward doing what you know you should be doing, and doing the best you can in this moment! Good luck!
I can relate but I have learned that sometimes we take a step back to be able to move forward. My food choices today have not been so great but i will be hitting the gym later today!!! stay focus!! You can do this!!
xoxo
Hey W...
Dont bum out on yourself. It's difficult at best. If it was so easy, everyone would be IB (ittybitty). This is not a failure, but an ephinany (can't spell worth a flip). It is your "aha moment" to stop look to the left and to the right to decide which way you want to go. Do you continue down the road...or do you turn and go the other way. It is your choice, and you have the wheel. You have not failed. You have just pulled off the road for a picnic. There are beautiful vistas that lie ahead. But you have to get back on that highway to happiness.
i had binging problems that lasted nearly an entire year. I finally decided to stop when my weight got so high that I noticed circulation problems in different sections of my body. Try to regain your focus on being healthy. I know it's hard. It took me a whole year to re-focus on my health, but once I regained my focus, I have a lot more self confidence and power to overcome the binges and the lazy days.

So I started getting one of those CSA like boxes of produce delivered to my house and am now trying a few new things...that alas, I have no idea what to do with. Anyone have any recipes they love for cauliflower (I saw a cauliflower crust pizza and want to try mock mashes potatoes), beets, and vidalia onions? I'm particularly trying to use all the parts so I'm going to try to saute the beet leaves tonight I think. I am loving that I finally signed up and did this. It's one where you can just order a box when you need one, which is good for me because there's no WAY I'll be able to eat my way through a full box once a week. I've also got a mango in there, which I've never tried before from the actual fruit...only pre-cut or in smoothies or whatnot. Pretty cool!
There are some tasty cauliflower salads you can do, if you want it raw. I, personally, just like plain old steamed cauliflower with some seasoned salt. I'm not a beets fan, so no help there... but sweet onions like vidalia, I seriously just eat raw sometimes, lol. I grew up on a farm, and we ate onions raw a lot. But, I also love roasted (high temp = crispy edges, mmm), or you could saute and caramelize them. I just had some green beans sauteed with caramelized onions and a little balsamic vinegar last night. Yum! And, mango, make sure you look up how to cut it properly. They are impossible if you don't know how to do it first. I love just eating it fresh. Or, you could throw mango in with rice, or use it in a sauce... or make a mango salsa to go with chicken or fish. I love mango!
Cauliflower... yum: http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeId=99541
Mango: http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/how_to_cut_a_mango/
Beets: Red Beet Risotto ... I've had this at the chef's restaurant in Toronto, but never tried making it at home. It was AMAZING. Scroll to the end of the article for the recipe: http://lifewise.canoe.ca/FoodDrink/Eat/2008/01/04/4758747.html
There's another version of beet risotto that I have tried making, but it ended up in my garbage!! Usually, this cookbook author's recipes are good, but not this one.
Do not make this one: http://www.bonniestern.com/bonnies-recipes/recipe/beet-risotto/
Happy cooking
Wendy
So fun! I'm jealous!
I have the Epicurious app on my kindle and I love it when I have new ingredients or need a new recipe. I assume you can also just use the webpage to get the same info. It's great b/c you can enter ingredients and get great ideas and you can limit it by diet type, etc.
http://www.epicurious.com/
hot beet casserole is tasty. it uses sliced beets and golden raisens frozen oj, with corn starch as a thickening sauce, and baked in the oven until bubbly. cauliflower mashed is better than it sounds. use the onions as cups and bake fresh english or sweet peas with dill in them..there has to be tons of resources on the net.
I pickle the beets and serve them as a side dish. Yummo! Vinegar, sugar, pickle spice let pickle over night. Yummo!
I found this cauliflower recipe in a vegetarian cookbook and it's fast, easy and tastes great!
Cut, wash and steam cauliflower.
Add your favorite type of fat (ie. butter, Smart Balance, etc)
1/3c of bread crumbs. I use the Progresso Italian style...
salt/pepper to taste
Mix and serve hot.
Enjoy!
All these sound awesome! Thanks for the ideas. My family loves mashed cauliflower. I make a shepard's pie with it and replace the potato. Let us know what you ended up doing with it! I love cooking and trying know things!!
MyPlate keeps saying that I'm going over my recommended Protein intake.. I go over rather quickly and I don't feel like I am eating a high protein diet. I do eat some form of protein with every meal, but not an obsene amount so What should I do? How many grams of protein is good for a 1200 calorie diet?
I ALWAYS go over my protein. I just make sure I stay under carbs and most importantly SODIUM. Then I definitely lose weight and feel fuller longer.
When I spoke to a nutritionist the other day, she gave me a chart that says I should aim for 15-25% of protein. If you are going over your intake according to livestrong but you fit within those numbers, I wouldn't worry at all.
It also says 45-65% carbs and 20-35% fats.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, this really helps me out. I was starting to get annoyed and concerned lol. The percentages will definitely help me.. i need a good balance :) and sodium is definitely a scale hinderer!
I always go over my protein too. Ipmac is right. Your protein shouldn't exceed 30% of your intake. I just keep a good eye on my percentages instead of my grams. You seem to be doing awesome! Keep up the hard work!
It's really hard to get "too much" protein. Going over the LS recommendation for protein is actually a good thing, because protein keeps you full longer than carbs or fats, and it helps you build lean muscle :) Some people follow very high protein diets (40%), but I usually like to keep my protein around 20-25%... which on my 1350 calorie intake is about 80g or so, or over double what LS recommends. I try to eat more protein on days when I do strength training because it helps with muscle recovery. I also eat about double the fiber they recommend. That's another that isn't bad to "go over" on.
I always go over my protein too! I'm glad to hear it isn't the end of the world. This has been freaking me out for a while.
Hi everyone!!!!!! I am so happy today. I had 2 nights of binge eating last week, a
tooth drama, and took my mom out for a good day on Saturday to watch Lacrosse and hang
out. WOW! I just knew I blew it this week. Was only able to get 2 work outs in...
bah!!!! But I was active and felt good, ya know?
Any who.... I stepped on the scale today.... (drum roll please) I totally lost 1 pound
this last week! YAY!!!!! I am soooo close to getting to 169. I want to be at 165 by
the time we open the pool, if not 159. But I am just so proud of this one pound.
Binge Ho did not win this week! So now I am working back at my goal of 3 work outs a
week, I adjusted my calories down to 1250 and I have been able to hit that goal mark and I
lost a pound. It is just so motivating!
Peg: Thank you SO much for the shin splints article!!!! I am going to visit mom at
rehab place on way home from work, then get home and jump on the treadmill... Gonna give
it another try this week. Then I think I will make the boys breakfast for dinner. Who
doesn't love breakfast for dinner? and it is fast and easy! :-) Thanks everyone! I
really have to give props to all of you and helping me find my motivation and keeping it
this time!!!! I am going for 2 pounds next weigh in. :-D
Post for this week :-)
We're going to do a couple of short challenges to kick start our Spring fever! It is
getting warmer out there and while its not quite baithing suit weather, those days are
getting closer. So let's get out there and MOVE!
This is
a 4 week challenge, so please base your goals on this time frame only.
If you
only signed up for one challenge last time, try to set two goals this time.
If you
missed one or more of your goals for the last challenge, set yourself up for success by
reassessing where you should be and what you can achieve during this challenge. If its a
weight loss goal that is not going down like you want it to, take heart – everyone
plateau's – its very normal. Gaining weight due to increased activity (water retention
or more muscle mass) is not necessarily a bad thing, Take heart, make a commitment to
drink more straight water, but don't give up being more active.
To join
in the challenges, here's the breakdown:

CW: not getting on the scale this week
CWO: 5
CM: 9.5
Really rough weekend. Got very depressed and didn't end up working out for 4 days in a row except for a really long walk with the dogs. Not going to weigh myself at all this week and just try to focus on the food and exercise. Maybe I'll actually take my measurements this week like I've been telling myself I need to. Right not just trying to focus on getting out of this depression.
CW: 105 (and happy happy happy!)
CWO: 6
Been stuck around 106 / 107 for the last 3 months so it's nice to finally see 105 again. I'll be sooo happy if I hit both my goals for this challenge :-)
CW: 124
CWO: 3
I'm ebarrassed I went up a pound and only got 3 workouts in
I went to the doctor last week for antibiotics cause I've been feeling sick and haven't done much. It still stinks to be going the wrong direction, ugh.
Sorry I'm late, was travelling!
SW: 167
BW: 153.6
GW: 148 *pretty please* getting below 150 and staying there would be such a HUGE accomplishment!!!
GWO: 22 (I was going to say 24 and stick with the 6 days a week thing, but have really been consistent with 5 or 6 and have 2 business trips during this time period that are going to make 6 on those weeks REALLY hard, so we're going to go with 22).
CWO: 6 last week. I'm on track so far!!! :D
I haven't posted my progress because I forgot. Alas, I've been avoiding the scale because I have a strong feeling I haven't lost anything, but DO feel good that I have been better about not bingeing. I have met my work-out goal of 5x/wk, so there's another positive note. I'm looking at the calendar and can't believe it's spring already and I'm nowhere near ready to wear shorts. My consolation is that at least I don't have to don a bathing suit until June!

I kept getting sick this past week, from an allergy/sinus cold, to pink eye, to having strep all within 7 days. LOL. Through it all, I still ate like normal but didn't exercise. I stepped on the scales yesterday since it was day 3 of antibiotics and things were back to normal and I lost 4 lbs!! I want to wait a day or so longer for rest before heading back to the gym! I love reading the posts on here from everyone:)
Had fun yesterday canoeing with the family. Didn't follow my Atkins diet or track my food. Thought it was a fun day of freedom til I hopped on the scale this morning and I'm up 4lbs!! My husband's family is going to be here next week and they will want to go to the beach. I am not ready for that. Man, I'm bummed. Losing weight this time around has been very difficult for me. I feel like I'm having to work out twice as hard and not put ANYTHING in mouth that doesn't belong. This stinks! Hope this week will do me some good. Have a happy Monday everyone!
Atkins can be really hard to stick to.. I found that i was having cheat weeks rather than cheat days because it is so hard to go back on it after munching on sweets and treats. Stay focued. It really does work...i have switched to a low calorie diet and find that it is working well too... you've got this!
My body is holding on to about an extra 5 lbs of water weight today because of my salty snacky binge over the weekend. I'm ok with it, though I hope it goes away easily this time. I feel like I've been working so hard, only to see a ridiculous weight gain due to my mindless weekend snafu. My dilemma is that I've eaten sooooo well over the past 2 months that I just needed to eat what I wanted. I am optimistic that I will not crave what I shouldn't be eating, that always makes it hard to hop back on the wagon.
It sounds like me....I'm at the heaviest almost every Monday. Thinking it because I eat 3 meals/day & they're bigger/fatter/more cal than weekdays, and drinking less water on weekends. From Mon though Friday, I stuck @ desk so..... more drink water and eat small meals throughout the day. By the way, I did better than past weeks! (...but still gained lbs, OMG!) Restarting today!!!! I like the challenges it's because I can reset my mind and start over every week :)
I have a sort of similiar but not, problem. i find that on the weekends i can control my calories because i am not as hungry because i am staying on the go and if i snack at home, i force myself to find something quasi-healthy. when i am at work though, it is a completely different story. i have to have breakfast (300 calories), a mid day snack before lunch because i feel like i am starving (150 possibly), lunch which is usually leftovers from the night before (400-500 calories) and then i am worrying about my calories for the evening. plus, i find that my snacking is not as healthy.
drinking water doesn't "fill" me up to take care of the hunger pains, and even if it did, when i am here at work for whatever reason, i will eat to the point of discomfort. i am thinking it is my job that is doing it to me. i sit behind a desk all day and stare at a computer screen. maybe it's my job that's making me fat! never had true weight issues till i started working here 10 years ago...hmmmm....
Hey Erica,
That's ok, it's probably all water weight anyway. If it makes you feel better I was up 2.5 lbs after the weekend as well. It's definitely discouraging. I tried to regain focus and plan out a workout calendar and think of some healthy meals for the week to try to buckle down. As for the upcoming beach trip...Focus on having fun rather than how you look. I've been thinking about that a lot lately. Years down the road I'm going to look back and say wow I was not enjoying quality time with the people I love because I was too focused on how I looked. What a waste! Pack some fresh juicy fruit and of course the sunscreen and have a great time

How is everybody doing this week? It's already Monday morning, and I'm waiting for my daily dose of happy. Ever since I started going back to the gym 2 weeks ago, I have felt a serious increase in my general mood after I exercise. Now, I'm just counting the hours (I have 6 more togo) before I can get back on the elliptical. I am still the fat white girl in Korea, but I am convinced that the weight will come off with exercise and eating properly.
I just joined. I am 4'10 and I have not much to loose: 5-8 lbs but at my age and with my tiny frame it won't be easy. Some tables say that I should weigh 90-110 lbs but even when I was younger and ran 5 miles daily, I weighed about 115 lbs and now will be happy with 120lbs. I am looking for the support from other older people and suggestions how to burn more calories with limited mobility. I am happy that I found this website and looking forward to participating in this group.
I am not seriously old, but I am restricted in what exercises I can do. I am actually not supposed to do any exercise, but having been active my entire life I just can not do nothing. As long as the weather is not too windy when it's cold, I just walk outside. Otherwise, I go to the gym for light weights and easy elliptical.
In the Free & Practical Exercise Advice group, Mark always talks about how DIET is the key to losing inches. He hates talking about losing weight(but I can't help but want to see that scale go down.) Exercise, although it is an awesome bonus, it's not the key to a slimmer you. A flat belly is made in the kitchen! So your exercise routine should be just fine if you're eating well. But light weights and the elliptical sound perfect! Good Luck on your health goals!!
Can you carry over calories onto the next day if you are a little bit over for that day? Just wondering? kashi for breakfast today.
yes you can absolutely do this. Your body doesn't monitor calorie intake on a daily basis, it does it more of on a weekly basis. Keeping tabs on your daily caloric intake is a lot easier and more organized than trying to count calories for like an entire 7-10 day stint.
I've never thought about that. Thank you so much for a great question :)
I usually try eat less and workout harder to get extra cal back nextday to even that out, but I end up eating too much & feeling guilty, or maybe it's because not eating enough and I feel less energy for working out & do a little cardio onyl and come home from a gym. I can ajust my in/out cal over days would be manageable!!! Yay :)
Cervanits, hello there... Humm.. it seems yes, if you get back on the wagon, and you care what you eat that day, and the next. I find if I am up one day, continue with my exercise and healthy eating, and watching my calories, I will DROP those pounds that I put on during an OVER day. The trick for me is to do that everyday.... and that my friend, lately, is the trouble in river city!!! Wynne

There is a new movie out called WHY AM I SO FAT...anyone seen it or heard anything about it...Let me know..
No, but I will go with you!! Will look for it! You are not the only one "up." I will try AGAIN today. Also, Pulled a groin muscle yesterday. slfjasldkfjlasdkfjlsdkjfasldjfas!!!!! Have a great day, Cervantis.... wynne
Just looked it up. Seems very interesting. You should read the forum in the diets and dieting section on this site called Fatz and Oilz. What I've been learning lately about fats has been completely different from what I've always been told. I wonder if that movie will talk about it. Tried to find where or when it can be watched but can't find anything. Do you know?
Hi W..
Focus on the small goals, one meal at a time. And only if you have ever pulled one of those can you know how much it hurts. I can say that I completely have been there an done that and got the T-shirt. ICE, anti-inflam meds, ie..ibuprofen, naprox NA, muscle relax med under a Dr. supervision are typical treatments. Time will be the best healer. I am so very sorry about that. Messes up a power walk or work out. Heat will make it feel better, but ICE is best early on. Try not to do splits also..:) I had to give it up when I pulled mine.
Hi E..
Do they talk about Coconut Milk..I will have to check it out. I saw it on my brides facebook page, where someone had posted it. I think some relative was in the movie. We have a friend that was on one of the episiodes of the biggest loser and he looks amazing now... doing marathons ect...I will see if I can get the bride to let me see it. It may be on my facebook and I dont even realize since I dont check in that often.
Time to update your progress on your goal from 3/16, post two things you're proud of for
the last week and two goals for next week. My goals last week were to finally use my
groupon for kickboxing (I did, twice, 40 mins and 450 calories! I'm hooked!) and jog
with puppy twice (FAIL, I didn't go even once, it was a busy week).
So I'm proud of:
1. getting to kickboxing.
2. getting back on track with logging my food, even the dreaded wendy's binge, which
I managed to avoid doing twice.
Goals:
1. Third times the charm right? Jog with puppy twice. I WILL DO IT THIS WEEK!
2. Stay under calories and get to gym at least 4 days.
I didn't officially post a goal for 3/16. I just started back on this site on 3/19. I did, however, have a couple of goals.
1. Stayed under calorie budget every day
2. Worked out at least 4 days (I've actually worked out every day except Monday, go me! but with TOM in full force I've only lost .2 lbs arggggg)
Goals for the upcoming week:
1. Work out 4 days at least 1 hour each day. (This does not include my lunch hour walks)
2. Keep my sodium intake under 2,000 mg EVERY DAY.
accomplishments:
1. power walked 2 days this week--last night was 2.32 miles in about 35 minutes. and that was not going near as fast as the night before.
2. keeping my cool somewhat at work in the face of stress and annoyance. today is day 3 that the office mate that i so affectionately refer to as the "office slacker" has called out. she came in today for a total of 15 minutes and then left. so i am doing wire transfers and accounts payable work--again.
goals:
1. up my speed in my walking and try to incorporate a little jogging into it. i don't want to walk my whole 5k in may--i want to be able to keep up and not be the last to cross the line!
2. get my head in the game as far as reffing. i have a game that i have to head ref next month and i am petriefied of making a mistake. the head ref gets all the blame when stuff goes wrong...
Cmsaul - I've been doing Leslie Sansone's 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk. She squeezes 5 miles into a DVD that equals about 1 hour and 10 mins. She has a website www.walkathome.com. On there are some sample videos so that you can try it before you buy it. I found mine at Walmart for $10. I think this might help with your 5K since she adds some boosts where you do jogging for part of the time.
Well, last week's goals were:
1. Increase my run/walk distance to the full 5k distance... and increase the running portion by 2 minutes. (I ended up doing a run/walk with a much more advanced friend (so, mostly run), and he pushed me to go a 10k distance. So, I basically doubled my goal... lol. And FELT IT. Ouch.)
2. Keep up with my cooking. (I did "ok", not great. Had a few frozen dinners.)
3. Keep diet soda intake at 1 or less per day. (I think I accomplished this. Maybe had 2 on one day.)
This week's goals:
1. Do my 5k distance twice, with hopefully mostly running.
2. Stay within my calories this weekend. Especially at our big trivia tournament tomorrow night, yikes.
Accomplishments:
1.) Ran 3.5miles without stopping!
2.) Stayed pretty consistant with my workouts this week
Goals:
1.) No BINGEING
2.) Keep my house picked up
This week was better than I thought it would be at the outset, but still room for improvement. First for last week's goals:
Goals:
1) Sort of succeedd at being more organized. Got my sub plans out earlier and stuff. Had a couple of things from a few weeks ago that people asked questions about, but it wasn't for this week.
2) SUCCESS re: working out every day AND on my trip so far! I did weights yesterday at the hotel gym, the exact ideas my trainer had worked with me on, and I just got back from kicking ass on the elliptical (6.25 miles and 72 minutes) so I feel pretty good.
3) Haven't joined the small group training yet, but not sure I can afford it, so that's not really a fail so much as a reconsidering.
4) Didn't do a great job reaching out to people. Mentioned to one of my best friends and my mother that I've been feeling down, but didn't really elaborate. I should do more here. Maybe for next week.
Goals:
1) Two more workouts before I head home (I'm here until late Monday, so that means working out 2/3 Sat/Sun/Mon).
2) Eating well while on this trip. So far has been okay but not great. Diner/Hotel food isn't doing it for me and I feel like I"ve eaten 10 times more salt than normal so my fingers are all swollen. This one is going to be tricky
3) Clean up my apartment when I get home to start for spring (thanks for the inspiration for this one Ericamisameria!! I totally need to do that too, and was looking for a goal post trip) :)
accomplishments:
1) Completed a half marathon 14min faster than my personal best
2) um ... finished my homework early for the week?
goals: um ... sigh ... same as always
1) try to eat better
2) try to move more
Accomplishments:
1.Restarted my diet.
2. See Number 1
Goals:
1. Work only 70 hours next week
2. Eat more Salads.
So TOM decided to visit me this week (first week after spring break! REALLY) Anyway I
weighed exactly the same every day and I did pretty good staying in food and working out
20 minutes in the morning and 30 on planning period until YESTERDAY. Yesterday I did
really good until 5:30 then blew it all away. I ate and ate and ate. I told myself ok so
I'm binging. This is a one time thing and I'm done after today. And believe me I AM. I
have such an upset stomach. TOM still won't leave me alone. I haven't worked out yet
today, but I know I will and I know that TOM & a little bit of stress broke my resolve
yesterday.
My husband made 2 major purchases without consulting me and I'm a spaz about money so I
let it rule me for an evening. BUT all it got me was a tummy ache so as I said last night
I will say again. I'm done with that!!! Anyway I'm going to take a major career step this
morning but pray it doesn't back-fire in my face. I'm not the best at meeting new people
& definitely SUCK at interviewing. But what ever I'm going to do that this morning in
my smallest top & skirt that I've EVER owned that way I will hold my stomach in and my
head up high the whole time. LOL
Anyway no weight lost but none gained on a TOM week is pretty good. Wish me luck and
TTYL
Mel
Mel, I cannot WAIT TO HEAR WHAT HAPPENED!!!! PS. I am up two pounds. Oreo cookies with peanut butter. I am mad at myself too. Today is a new day!!! Wynne
I am just glad I am not called or go by the name of TOM. "Cervantis" or "Thunder" thank God have never been in that conversation.
Hey W...Oreo, and Peanut Butter....better not even go near that combo...It would be like Girl Scout Mint Cookies in the freezer..
No breakfast for me today, and Dolmas with Lamb Sliders was for lunch...Diner is going to be somewhere where we dont have to cook or clean tonight....
Hang in there..
I did it AGAIN!!! Had another day of controling my food! Came home from a meeting alittle after 8pm. Had a couple cabbage wraps and that was it!!! I made it through the night of mental temptations and just fell asleep! I'm so happy!! I know it sounds silly but I've been struggling so hard lately with my bingeing that last night was a major accomplishment for me. Hopeing today will go just a wonderful as yesterday. Thank you Jesus for giving me the fruit of self control last night. Please help me again today!!
MISS ERICA!!! YOU DID IT!!! TODAY YOU WILL BE MY INSPIRATION!!!! WOO HOO, Missy!!! Blessings, Wynne.... Just one day at a time.... right??!!! YUP!!!!
Thank you for your support. I'm proud of myself. It's hard to understand when you don't have a bingeing problem like I do but yesterday was really a big deal for me :) I'm happy I made it through
Awesome job! You should be proud of yourself, that's a great accomplishment. :) I used to struggle with this a lot (still do rarely) next time you feel like you're not in control, remember how awesome you've done the last few days and know you can do it. :)
Great!! I know how hard it is... I find it's best for me to not plan out my whole day right away(on myplate) What I do is..i key in the 'most likely to be eaten' foods and then try and think of what i may eat for dinner and play around with the calculations... once i have an idea on how much i'll be eating for the day i like to save a few hudred calories for a spontaneous yet health conscious snack that will fit into my calorie budget.. ALL THIS PLANNING MAKES ME WANT TO SHOVE COOKIES IN MY MOUTH LOL so for as much preperation as I do to stay in my calorie budget, I try to allow for some spontaneity which I think often helps me stop the binge fest. Amazing job staying in control!

So this woman I work with has decided to start on her own dieting adventure. She pushes
herself a bit differently than me and I wanted to share what she is doing with you to get
your thoughts on it.
First of all she does 90 second workouts. This is where she does a workout as hard as she
can for 20 seconds then rests then repeats and does this for 3 minutes for each workout
she does that is 90 seconds of hard work for each type of workout but only 3 minutes a
day.
Then she eats anything and everything she wants (within dieting reasons) but doesn't eat A
THING after 3:00 every day. She is doing weight watchers for the food choices.
She's lost 12 pounds in 2 months.
What do you think?
Hmm, I've heard of those short workouts... called Tabata training, I think. High-intensity intervals. I just can't imagine burning many calories with 3 minutes a day. I could see it as a good supplement to your normal workouts though, or good for a "rest" day. And, I think it probably increases endurance and gets your heart rate up.
And, not eating after 3:00 shouldn't make any difference with weight loss, really. Studies show that "when" you eat doesn't matter. It's just how many calories you eat. You can eat 1200 spread out over 24 hours, or you can eat 1200 in 6 hours. Either way, you are getting 1200 calories in a day. What your coworker is doing is basically intermittent fasting. Some people swear by intermittent fasting for weight loss, and even just general health, but everyone does it differently. Some people fast for certain meals (like your friend), and some do a day a week, or a few days a week.
12 pounds in 2 months means 1.5 pounds/week, which is a pretty normal weight loss rate in the beginning of a new regimen. I'm sure her method works for losing weight, but I don't think I could personally sustain that kind of thing in the long run. Just like I couldn't do Atkins. Different strokes for different folks! :)
Manda's response is right on and I completely agree with her. :-)
Personally, I could never sustain not eating after 3:00 so that would never work for me. Also, 90 second workouts (Tabata training) are great...but they shouldn't be all you do. I just can't see that she will continue to see good results and gains in fitness by exercising only 3 minutes a day. I have a couple of Tabata workouts I do and they are much longer...one is about 40 minutes and the other is almost an hour. The drills are only 4 minutes each but I do a lot of them. They are fantastic workouts but 3 minutes a day? I don't think so. But, it is better than doing nothing!
I agree with Manda, too. I think it's great if you can include those short but high intensity workout into your workout but just doing that workout only....? Anything suits your life style/schedule is the best for you because it has no "end date". I'm sure it's a great stress releaf, mood changer when you have no time to do your normal workout though. Not eating after 3pm doesn't work for me unless I go to bed by 5pm.
If she was active person prior to this her new routine, this diet/workout seems the best choice for her at this point....if her goal is to lose weight, she needs to change something when she doesn't see anymore weight loss. Otherwise, she's doing just great - 12lbs...awesome progress!!!
Scotty, you're doing wonderful -you workout hard and really bring the result and show us what we ca do to reach our goal. Just to believe yoursel and keep it up! Thanks for the great posts as always!!
I think it depends on where you're starting from. if you're generally inactive and don't stick with great food choices, then suddenly switching to weight watchers and adding 3 minute workouts will make a big a difference. Not eating after 3 seems a bit extreme though, I think you should eat when you're hungry, you have to work with your body, not against it.
I eat really healthy and try to get an hour at the gym every day, but even when I work my butt off I only lose a maximum of 0.5lbs per week. It would be easy to feel jealous that someone is only doing 3 minutes of exercise and is losing so much more, but everyone is different and any progress is good, no matter how slow.
I agree that anything that gets you motivated and gets you on a healthier path is definitely a good thing. It's not the kind of plan I would try myself, but I can see how it could be a good starting point for being healthier and taking control.
I was sure that I would show a gain, but the scale stayed the same. Science Experiment ~ Yes, we can eat normally, if we pay attention. (Which is my problem!) This morning I followed a "Hungry Girl," idea, scrambled egg with Lite laughing Cow Cheese. I am busting out of my fat pants, and it is driving me crazy. Cervantis? I hope when this crazy time of year is over for you, that you and your bride can go on a luxury vacation!!! Have a good day everybody.... Wynne
The other night I completely binged and yesterday I feel like my walk in the morning and jog in the afternoon made up for it. It was my daughters birthday and yes..I had a piece of cookie cake. Only half a piece though. Another day of going over my carb count but not nearly the amount I went over the other night. I controlled myself last night!! I'm very proud of myself. Now today is no messing around. I got to get my butt back into that ketosis!!

your email just made me want to tell you that I hear you...wow... too many good byes... So
many blessings.... Remember this... as a little girl, someone once told me this and I
never forgot it... be kind to to others. you may be entertaining angels without knowing
it... you have so much on your plate. focus and take care of yourself...... smile.. and
spread your kindness from here to everywhere. You and redgrill have me planting and
thinking of chicks. Your missives make me feel and smile. Your influence and
touches go far... Blessings, wynne
Thank you Wynne! :-) Its been a rough few months but I can feel myself shedding the sorrow and looking forward to Spring (which has sprung). Donnie (my father-in-law) was the "gardener" of our family. This year I plant for him. :-) Potatoes are already blooming and a few other areas are wanting too. We've gotten so much rain this week that my yard looks like its drowning. LOL. Can't wait until it all dries up to see its beautiful green and to put in a few more plants.
Chicks arrive in 3 weeks. TTYL
Mel
Okay, I am smiling. You all know I teach Science. But here this goes... Mind you all, I counted the calories, and EVEN estimated UP! I defrosted these thin chicken breasts for dinner, but found that I was the only one home. HUUMMM. Had a ripe avacado. There was bacon in the fridge from when the boys were home. Had a red onion and some delicious heirloom tomatoes. I had a 50 calorie wrap. As you know, I have been struggling, barely towing the line. Always hungry. Used Livestrong to calculate calories, and my own resources. Here goes.... sauteed chicken breast (140... am upping it to 170) 1/2 avacado... 150, bacon, 120, dressing? fat free mayo and barbeque sauce 80 calories... onions, tomatoes... dressing..so far I am up to 570 calories... But, then, add in the tomato slices, onion... Let us say dinner was an easy 600 - 650 calories. Wow, that makes me faint. . I have to tell you all, that my wrap was so delicious, I couldn't stand it. Yes, I had my martini. I also added that into my calorie c o u nt today. So now, I need to totally NOT ingest anything else and see if I gained a pound or more. Livestrong said I had 700 calories left. Well, we will see, won't we? Erica, you work to remain steadfast, okay? Abby? Love your gardening website. (redgrill, everybody, check this out!) Will report results tomorrow! Wynne PS Cervanits... what do you think????
Teach Science..nope...did not know that..now I do...Personally I like the martini being in there, but that is just me. Your wrap was leaning to the left coast from my vantage point on the map with the addition of The Avacado, and heirlooms alone would have won me over. Wrap in one hand and a martini in the other...sounds very balanced to me. I just got home...another 14.5 hour day. We did Wendy's and I bummed out. My weigh in was today, and my challenge partner/buddy stayed the same, and I gained 4 pounds. Hate it...Hate it...but I have no one to blame but myself. We are very busy right now at work, and time is very limited. When I was only working a half of a day (12 hours) it seemed like I could focus more on meal preparation, but now that we are busy, and my 12's are now 13, 14, 15, and a 16 hour day every week, it makes it difficult. I gave up Atkins, and kept the weight off but the bride likes pasta, with cream sauce and I cant say no. Wonder what color speedo I should chose when I loose this bet between my and my buddy. School bus yellow...uhm...not a pretty thought...sorry bout that didnt mean to scare yall...
That sounds yummy! Counting calories is harder this time around for me. I went to Ihop the other day and thought I got something that went well with my low carbs(which it did) but it ended up being 850cals!!! All the goodies you added to your wrap were all good for you!! There's nothing better than eating a meal that is full of nutrition!!
I'm so confused, did you only eat dinner that was 650 calories all day and you're worried you're going to gain a pound even though Livestrong was telling you to eat 750 more calories? I hope not! Starving yourself is definitely not the way to lose weight and only 650 calories isn't enough even for us little folks
NO!! LOL's!! I had 700 calories to eat so I stuffed them all (except for the martini!) into the wrap!! It was scary knowing every calorie that I am eating. Somehow I try to just have chicken or fish and lots of veggies for dinner. Wynne (PS I am still struggling!!!)
Oooooh, okay good, don't want anyone passing out and starving themselves, hahhaa. that wrap sounded deeeelicious. I'm currently trying to force myself to go workout again tonight and trying to decide if I'm allowed to bribe myself with a Wendy's burger, which sadly, would still be within my calories today if I work out...it's just so delicious...but so baaaad for you!
I just went to McDonalds... I was really craving it and I've been doing so well so I
thought I'd treat myself. I asked for small french fries and they gave me a medium-
Normally extras are awesome but I really didn't want all those fries. Then I mindlessly
ate the whole thing( which is twice the size of a small) and I'm so upset with myself!!
I've been eating really well and working out 4 times a week but I'm just annoyed because I
feel like I couldn't control myself. I knew I didn't want all of those fries... But they
were there. And so good.
Anyway, my bitch session is over but I just really wanted to put that out there. Maybe by
pointing it out I can make myself stronger next time.
Next time just remember how angry you are. I know that ruining or wasting food is taboo... but at this point, it's better in the trash than my stomach when it comes to something like that. So if I have more than I need/want and there's no one to share with, I get rid of whatever it is.
And, tomorrow is a new day!
You've been eating well and working out - that's awesome. Count small wins :)
Maybe next time, instead going to McD's, cook some baked sweet potato (not fried) at home to treat yourself :) It takes a little "cooking" time, not fast food which is also good - this can be great start.
I try treat mysel w/ new workout clothings, shoes instead food. (Yeah, I eat bad food, too....but treating your wins with food can be bad habit sometimes, like you have to have those rewarding food after you did something, and repeat & continue...and breaking those habit might be really tough)
Anyway, I agree with ipmac, leave your frustration behind you - everything will be under controll again tomorrow. Smile & go on your journey, and yep, you work harder, push more to burn that fries!!
Remember you're doing great!
I'm the queen of mindless eating! Treating yourself-especially when when you've been doing very well-is good! It's when we go over board that it becomes a problem(like what I did the other night). I agree with the both the post above. Throw away the extra and treat yourself with a new shirt or new workout dvd. Although I also think it's perfectly okay it eat something tasty here and there(if the here and there are far inbetween). Today's a new day with a fresh start(I get those everyday). Have a great day!!!!
Ugh. I know what you mean. I went to a Greek Festival and a friend of mine (who owns a Greek restaurant) gave me a HUGE container of sweets. And I only wanted one. The treats were meant to be eaten hot and do not warm up again very well, so it broke my heart to throw away such yumminess, but Weight Watchers taught me the same thing as what ipmac said. "Better in the trash than on my butt".
Got to thinking about this ... There seems to be (at least for me) a different mind set between "treating myself" and "having a treat". In my experience, "having a treat" is typically a much more controlled and unemotional experience than "treating myself".
"Treating myself" with food is using food as a reward and is usually my biggest downfall. It doesn't even have to be for loosing weight or eating healthy for a long time. Sometimes it is a reward for doing well at school or .... etc. This is why I have been working on finding a non-food rewarding system.
For me, "having a treat" is usually a very controlled approach to having something I want but don't have often.
The reason I was able to embrace the "better in the trash" philosophy and throw away those treats my friend gave me is because I was "having a treat" and not "treating myself". Had it been the other way around, I would have felt like I would not have this opportunity again (or for a long time) because I have been so good that I should enjoy the entire container while I had the chance.
Perhaps that is what you experienced when you saw you got a medium fry instead of the small like you had asked for. Its tough to say "no" to those decadent things we love, but sometimes we can say "not now". As in, "Right now, I am not going to eat all the fries, but maybe I will next time. After all, they'll make more."
i feel your pain lady...i had a doctor's appointment during work hours. and instead of coming back and eating my nice salad i made last night & my little side helping of hamburger helper (w/ground turkey!!), i stopped at chick fila and got a meal. not even a kids meal like i used to do! so i ended up eating around 650 or so calories just on lunch.
PLUS--i ate a world's finest chocolate bar because i am stressed out to the gills--the office slacker called in sick again today. i understand that she may well & truly be sick or that her kid might be sick--but if i didn't already have a major beef with this chick, it wouldn't bother me so much. it just puts extra stress & strain on the rest of us here in the department. and when i get stressed, i eat...or i cuss...or throw my stapler... i don't think my boss would like it very much if started throwing stuff across the office.
so last night when the BF and neighbor and i were going for our nightly walk, i decided i
was going to take it at a faster pace than them, just so i can get a little more endurance
going for the 5K in may. i haven't tried to jog any at all yet (kind of afraid too--i
have wonky knees), so i figured BRISK walking would be the way to start. i ended up
being a block or two ahead of them. i used my mp3 player so that helped a ton (kept the
voices in my head quiet!!). just had to share that little moment of triumph. plus--i
stayed under my calories even though i had 2 splurge moments (1 cadbury creme egg before
the walk and 1 small cup of ice cream for dessert later that evening). yay me!!
on a non workout related note, our office slacker is out of the office again today so i am
having to fill in for her while attempting to do my own job--both of which require
concentration on what you are working on. fingers crossed that the powers that be
realize that she is not pulling her weight and do something about it. she called in sick
2 days last week and today. it's not so bad when we have all of us here, but when there
is someone out on vacation and our office floater is covering for that person and she
calls out sick, it puts everyone in a major bind...
That's a great feeling. Sometimes physical progress is such a good measure of progress! That's great that your BF and neighbor are being active with you.
Have you thought about a Couch-to-5K program? When I first started training for 5K runs, I used a C25K program and it helped me so much. I often go through it again just to work on my speed. Let me know if you'd like to see the chart. If you don't know what it is, it slowly builds you up to run a 5K or 30 minutes straight. But it starts out with you only running 1 minute intervals and then slowly builds up.
i've seen the chart and fully anticipated starting jogging with it last night, but after sitting stationary for most of the day and then being expected to get out for our walk last night, i figured brisk walking would be a better start.
thank you very much for the positive words and assistance. it means a TON to me!!
Hey, I miss you when you don't post... You mean a lot to the rest of us, missy! I look forward to your postings... Keep going... keep talking to us... that is how we all grow... wynne
Awesome on the speed walk! I learned in this group that fast walking actually can be more helpful than running! Running is actually more cardio where speed walking has strength training too! I have switched out some of my jogs for brisk walking and I really feel it in my legs and bum. Congratulaions!!! And Good Luck on that 5k!
THANKS WYNNE & ERICA!! i like the speed walking better; i feel like i can take smaller strides, give myself a quick burst of speed and i don't feel like i am putting so much pressure on my knees; which, thanks to roller derby and a skydiving incident back in 2008, are not so hot.
i kind of sucked last night though--it was sprinkling when i got home so i figured i would start dinner. well afterwards, it stopped raining and was still light out. i could've easily gone for a walk, even a short one, but i already had my PJ's on and was committed to the dent i make on the couch! today is another day--on a positive note, i did manage to stay at least 300 below my calories (1800) and didn't splurge like i truly wanted to...so that has to count for something! :)
I just have to scream at the moment. I've been at the same weight for about a week now, up over a half pound from last week. I'm so stressed out over my mom's passing, learning my new position at work, work travel and my boyfriend's employment issues that I can't seem to focus at all. I'm eating the calories I am supposed to (eating a little over BMR cals to ensure my body is getting what it needs), making sure to eat "heatlhy", drinking plenty of water and exercising 3 to 4 times a week for an hour at a time. Nothing is working. I did read a little about how stress can derail an entire diet plan, and I think that is what's going on here. Have any of you experienced this type of thing before, what did you do to get over it? I don't know how to relieve the stress, working out isn't even helping...
I've been hovering around the same weight for the last 3 months despite doing everything I can think of, read, learn.
Sometimes, your body just doesn't want to drop weight. And battling the stressors you have and maintaining weight for the week is sometimes an achievement in itself. Think of how easy it would be to put weight on. Keep up the good work.
Try getting a little extra sleep in. Maybe maybe sure you are getting enough vegetables and good foods that help you to feel good.
No matter what... keep up the work and effort. It will pay off.
I had 5 deaths in my family from Dec. 23rd until the 3rd Tues in Feb., It was all a big slap in the face. I didn't work out like I was supposed to at that time but I tried to focus food/fuel wise. I was stuck. So I took a week off of dieting & exercise and actually mourned those loses. The biggest most important one was my father-in-law. He wasn't sick and just fell asleep. He had been a major constant for me for 10 years. I still feel lost without him. He was almost my DAD not my husbands DAD.
Anyway you may just need to take a break from "focusing" there and focus on your emotions for about a week. Then come back and get right back to work.
It helped me tremendously!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom - iy must be really tough time you're in right now. You need to do what you need to do - take your time for you & your family, really. I can't imagine your days like but you need to slow things down for a while. Don't worry about losing weight - it stresses you even more. It sounds like you've been doing evertyihg you can possible do even in your difficult situation. Great job, Marz2922! Probably your body tries to store/keep things very hard - so you can fight through this time. We're all here for you :)
I'm sorry to hear this...and for you too Scotty. Losing loved ones is a very tough thing to go through. They get to journey to heaven while the ones left here are feeling sad and depressed. I will be praying for both of you! It's hard to tell whether your weight stall could be from stress(it sounds like you have alot) or just your body. Maybe taking a break for working out and mourning isn't such a bad idea. I wouldn't eat just whatever, whenever though. You don't want to ruin too much of a good thing. Jesus, I life up the ones who have lost loved ones. I ask that you comfort them and let them be at peace. I pray that Marz's stress level can be managable. We thank you so much that you are in control and not us. We thank you that these are just seasons and joy comes in the morning!
Yes, I've experienced this ... a few times. I find doing yogo helps. It incorporates breathing, stretching, and pseudo meditation to bring calmness and stability to an otherwise wonky world. I am sorry to hear of your loss and the other woes going on in your life. Perhaps you may consider the option of just maintaining that half pound gain for now and when things "calm" down a bit, you can renew your efforts to loose it. Just a thought.
Please, feel free to post everyday, many times a day - if that will help you to get re-centered.
I want to thank all of you for your kind words. I know that I will get through this. It's just hard thinking about things that she'll never be able to see, like me getting married or holding my children (when I have them). I will have to let them know what a wonderful person she was and how if she could have been here she would have and loved them to the ends of the earth. Then there's guilt about not spending as much time with her as I could've or being a mean brat. I've been having vivid dreams of her lately and she's told me that she's ok, that she loves me and that she's happy. This morning between my snooze alarms I was able to give her the biggest hug and tell her how much I love her. it was the best dream because I could hear her voice as plain as day telling me that she loved me too! I know that I'll be ok, I'm just sad right now, missing her.
I need to make weight loss my secondary goal so that I can fully get past this hurdle. I'm still going to work out, that seems to help center me.. maybe keeping it at arm's length will be easier and more manageable.
It's confusing im not losing weight because im not getting enough cal<but cant have carbs or sugars. thats a lot of food.
I'm eating very low carbs and no sugar as well. What has helped me add calories and stay full is loading up with healthy fat. Avocados and I use a lot of coconut oil in my cooking now(roasted kale..yum!). Adding fats like that with everymeal has really boosted up my calorie count. I just have to not bing at night to OVEER do it. Congratulations on being able to manage your calories though! That's a hard thing for some to get a grip of.
I have been losing weight since Dec 26th and so far have lost a total of 13 lbs. I
started Livestrong in January after my boyfriend gave me my Christmas present: a gym
membership with personal trainer! I am on the 12 week challenge and hit a 3 week snag. My
boss started a FB weightloss group and it has given me that "push" over my hump and I am
now losing again but no one in the group is doing what I am doing...Livestrong. Heck,
I didn't even realize there were groups in Livestrong until this morning! And the fact
that there is a group for short people, haha, I had to join! I was on Sparkpeople a few
years ago and lost a good 17 lbs but put some of it back on due to temporary health
reasons, and the group I was in was so supportive that I have actually stayed friends
with some of them, but none do the groups anymore. I am hoping to get/give the support
here at Livestrong because I am determined to lose this weight! I have an awesome support
group in real life, but having support from people that are doing the same as me is even
better! My goal is to get to 175lbs by July 22nd for my vacation. Well, that's my intro
about myself so hello to all!
~Shannon
Welcome, Shannon!!
We are all in the same boat.. I'm pretty new to this group, too and I have to tell you everyone on here is so helpful and supportive. Good luck with your weightloss
I am the very OLD FAT DULL and BORING guy in the group. If your looking for the best folks in the world...look no further. This place is THE place where great things happen everyday.
Hello All!
I am fairly new to the live strong family, but stumbled upon the website through a pin on
pinterest! This has been a great motivational tool for me since I tried to put one of my
favorite pairs of pants on about a month ago, and could not button them!! Talk a bout a
smack in the face! I have been using the "My Plate" tool for a little over a week now and
have been consistent in following my calorie plan along with daily exercise! I lost 2
pounds just the first week! I need all of the motivation I can get, and am so happy I came
across this group! I am excited to read future motivational posts, and any advise to a
healthy lifestyle is welcome!!
Hi, welcome to the shortie group
Good job on your loss so far and sticking to your plate!!! Keep it up!
LOL! Oh Cervantis ... if only it worked like that.
My friend in HS was severly underweight, but not on purpose. She desparately wanted to gain weight and I wanted to loose the excess I carried around. We often joked about how nice it would be if I could just give her some of my weight! If only ...
Thank you all for the warm welcome!! It has been a great start so far,and I cant wait to share more success stories with everyone! My motto optimism and discipline is the key to success!
Ha ha and Cervantis dont worry about trying to give me those 2 pounds back, but I dont want you to keep it! It's only 2 you can do it!!
=)
Well I made it 2 days without binging but then....didn't do too well last night. Totally blew my carbs and my calories. I swear, night time is the worst time for me. I wish I could just fall asleep right after dinner so I didn't have to deal with all those mental cravings. I'm so tired of myself lately. I'm so scared I'm going to gain back all this weight I lost. It took me soooo long to lose this. I feel blessed though that I didn't gain any weight from last night's bing. I was very happy to see that the scale didn't change. I was very nervous this morning to hop on that scale. I'm going to control myself today. Although it is my daughter's birthday...I will control myself. Jesus, PLEASE HELP ME! I will not bing today. I will not bing today. I will not bing today. Wow do I sound like an addict or what!?! Hope everyone has a good day!!!
I hear your pain. Seriously. My binging starts at 4 or 5 and lasts til right after dinner. I say your same prayer each day and do great until I get home from work or start fixing dinner. My strategy today is going to be to grab some cut up carrotts to munch on while I'm cooking. Also, when I get home from yoga, I'm going to drink 2 large glasses of water (with lemon) - that seems to quench my thirst and fill me up. Good luck today. Stay strong. I think "just one meal at a time." It helps sometimes. Take care.
I can relate. Addict is the right word for me. scaryalice is right (it's kind of weird calling you scary alice, but it's a great user name!)...one meal at a time...one hour, one minute, one thought and moment at a time.
Check these verses out and pray them; He'll help you.
1 Corinthians 10:13
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
I completely get where you're coming from! Ugh. It totally sucks.
If you haven't already done damage due to your daughters birthday, find an alternative quick that you can turn to instead of carbs that will take you out of ketosis (you're doing atkins, right?). Once you've gone out of ketosis, it takes 2-3days to get back into it. That right there might help you to say "no" to carbs. ... "Gee, if I eat this - then I have to go back to square one on the atkins plan. Do I really want to do that?" ...
You've got the right approach with prayer and taking things one meal at a time. Or even as tonithib says, one minute at a time. Like the famous 12 step program goes ... "I don't have to stop eating [insert food here] completely. I only have to not eat it right now." It might help to put it in that perspective and that way, you're not feeling like you're being punished or deprived.
Hang in there. And happy birthday to your daughter.
Erica, did you ever THINK you would have such a huge cheering squad?????!!!!! You all were in my thoughts last nite.... PLAN!!! PRAY, YOU CAN DO THIS..... AND SO CAN WE!!!! Wynne
Hello!
Try committing to just 1 day at a time. If you can, track everything before you eat it, that should help stop you from going over. Try to think of it as just for today, there's less pressure that way so you're more likely to succeed. Then tomorrow, when you wake up and realise you got through the day without bingeing, remember how good it feels and think about that good proud feeling the next time you feel a binge coming on. The good feeling that comes from resisting a binge is waaay more satisfying than the binge itself.
Good luck! Hope you and your family have a great birthday :-)
try having a late night snack...i enjoy persian or english cucumbers with lite ranch dressing... it's something crunchy and very filling.. and at only 8 calories per 1/2 cup of slices, it's a really safe choice! My prayers are with you. You're doing just fine and you're absolutely right..TODAY IS A NEW DAY!
Wow thank you so much everyone!!! I really needed it today. I ate so much last night, my stomach hurt. Why do I do that to myself? I definitely kicked myself out of ketosis, Peg. So I am back to square one. But today I've done well...although it hasn't hit evening yet. Which is the worst time for me. But I can do this!!! And tonight...I will not bing! Thank you again everyone. This is why I love this group soooo much!! xoxo
Hey Erica, I feel like the night time eating is quite common. I binge a lot too and sometimes I'm unhealthy about it so I completely understand how you feel when you say your stomach hurt. This has been something I have tried to fix for quite a few months myself. That's why I made that post about calories a couple days ago. Maybe some of us in the group really arent eating enough and that's why we have binges. I'm not sure what the case may be but we all have a great support system here. Perhaps like candybear said, grab a healthy late night snack and maybe hop on here and make a post when you get the urge to eat. I usually check this thing a lot so chances are I would respond haha. At least it would keep your mind and hands busy and might even make you sleepy. Just throwing an idea out that might help.
Start fresh today. Based on all your previous posts, you seem very strong willed so I have no doubt that you will be back on track in no time
I can't fall asleep with empty stomach :(
I drink a big glass of water, and see if it's just a false alarm (for me....usually not), then try fruits flavored tea (unsweetened) from local tea shop.
If it's not sattisfied, I eat - like home made pickles (I can controll how much to add salt when I make), protein shake or frozen fruits (you can buy prepacked ones from Dole if you worry about eating too much. They are in frozen food/Icecream section)
Many of us are on the same boat :) Good luck! and ley us know how it goes.

I was really happy to find a group like this online! I just started this diet, and I have about 20lbs to lose. I know it will take me a looonng time to lose that kind of weight, and I would really appreciate support from people who are also short and face the same challenges as I do!
This is definitely the right place for that support. I've lost about 20lbs and yes, it took me a looonge time. But now I have about 7-8lbs to go! Although I've had some trouble binging lately, I know that eventually I'll be there. Can't wait to hear about your accomplishments as well. I love reading everyone's post. They are very encouraging and I look forward to seeing your's too!! Good Luck! And God Bless!
I haven't been able to check in much in the last 2 weeks... but just wanted to say that
I have actually got 2 weeks of 3 workouts in and so far this week I have 2 in already!
Just feeling good about myself because I also dropped 3 pounds this week! Feeling a new
surge of powah! ;-)
I actually got on the treadmill today for the first time in 6.5 years. I have real bad
shin splints and the doc said it would take 10 years for them to heal.. well for some
reason I looked at my old buddy, and I got on the treadmill. I took the extra time to
really stretch out the muscles for my spints, and I jumped back on the horse... I can
describe it in 1 word... Brutal! Wowsers! I definitely have lost a lot of my running
speed, but I ran/walk/sprinted/inclined to 1.5 miles and I feel pretty darn good about
it. Granted it really started to hurt and my left leg shin splint started to drag me
down on the last incline but I didn't give up... I brought down the incline, brought down
my speed, and I walked the remaining portion of my .5 miles. I definitely have a long
way to go and I definitely can't treadmill every day, but I feel good about at least
trying AND succeeding! Proud of not chugging and puffing my way to a heart attack.
:-D
Glad to be back and have missed everyone!!!! Stick to your goals... we can do this!
Oh Yeah! Man, I love that MoJo!! Congratulations on pushing through even with those splints. I didn't realize those took that long heal...ouch! Awesome Job!
Shin splint stretches ... don't know if you do these, but they have worked for me ... http://www.livestrong.com/article/18797-stretches-shin-splints/
Definitely slowing down when the pain starts is the way to go. Building up your speed slowly will go a long way to helping you prevent any worse damage or any aggravation to them.
So glad you checked in. Been wondering where you'd scooted off to. Welcome back!

Yep I just tooted my own horn!!
:-)
I did my workout video yesterday morning before work. Then during my planning period I did
a walk away the pounds 2 mile video (30 minutes +2 miles=a 15 minute mile YEAH)
I did eat a little over 1400 calories yesterday.
Today I did my morning workout then did the walk away the pounds on my planning period
again (actually helps me relax and I seem to get more work done afterward)
Today I ate 1257 calories!! AND I'm done eating. Granted 180 calories weren't the best
choices, but were a great "treat" (I had sugary cereal and skim milk) but anyway I just
wanted to say TOOOT TOOOT I'm so proud of me for working out.
Now I'm going to go soak my feet. They hurt. LOL
TTYL
I am going to say, Lots of Laughs. but NOT REALLY. I REALLY gave myself a big talking to today. I am tired, CRABBY, and hungry. I have eaten just fine, and did some thinking. Today is only Day #2 of the Challenge, and I was going to BLOW it???? Humph. I thought of ALL of you. Every single one of you that I have emailed to. It is 7:22 pm and I have NOT BLOWN it. I am off to take a shower.... Put my jammies on, and NOT EAT. I have a book to read. Whew. Thank you for listening... Wynne Can you believe this? Thank God for all of you and this site.... Nite.....
Hi!
There are a lot of you new on here now, so I will begin by saying this is a project that
my students and I began back in september. We are asking for postcards from each state
sent to us telling us about your current climate, your population, and a fun fact or two
about your state. This is actually a Missouri Science GLE about BIOMES (e.g. habitats),
but I am also using it for a 3rd grade Missouri GLE in History on Communities (I teach 3rd
& 4th grades so have a lot of combining ect to do).
Anyway if you want to participate you just send us a postcard from where you are to us:
Mrs. Smith's 3rd & 4th grade Class
1600 S. Ohio St.
El Dorado Springs, MO 64744
If you give us a return address we will try to do a simple response.
The states we are still missing are:
Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Rhode Island,
Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin, but we have enjoyed this project sooo much that if you are
from the other states or even out of the country we would love to here from you.
I have 6 weeks left of this project so your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Melonie :-)
Sounds fun! I'm in Ohio. If I remember to pick up a postcard I will do this! Good luck getting those missing states!
Very Cool. I'm from Florida. Hope you get your remaining states. Let me know if you need Florida again, I'd be more than happy to send one. Sounds like a lot of fun for the class!!!!
thank you everyone! We need all the help we can get! LOL cervantis! We just have a plain postcard from Mississippi & we don't have anyone famous :-)
Thanks again we need all the help we can get!!
Yeah, I was supposed to do this and I let you down. I'll still do Tennessee.
Cervantis, I'm from Houma! Who do you know from Houma? Chances are, we're related...
I'm in MA, but will be visiting Utah in April (hopefully, need to work out some details first). If you still need Utah then, I can try. :)
Hi tonithib, if your related, then we might be related...I know where/what the "triangle is" . My cajun contact is a EMT/fireman cousin by marriage down there.
Somebody in here dances for Justin Beiber...or someone..Get whoever that famous person it is that dances to get the famous persons postcard if they can. I will see who I can dig up in Nashville, my friend D. Gray passed away recently, so he's out...3rd graders wouldnt know about "cheese burgers in paradise", so that wouldnt impress them...How about famous statesmen/persons...let me work on this abit.. Mississippi will be done right. It just will take a few days to get to my friends.
Hey, all.
I've been MIA for a while now and wanted to update you. Good news -- I got engaged on
Feb. 19!! Bad news -- I sort of slipped off my routine as a result (celebrating and and
haven't been doing as well as I could with exercise AT ALL -- I think I only worked out
twice a week on avg). I am pretty sure I've maintained my weight all this time, but
I most certainly haven't lost anything and probably have gained a couple of pounds. So
back I go to the drawing board!! I'll try to be better at entering in my weight etc. for
the contests!!
Welcome back and congratulations! Even though you have not been as active as you'd like to have been, doing on avg 2 workouts a week should still be considered a win! Some of us have been struggling so hard with that and me personally will end up going 3weeks without a single workout. So ... kudos to you for at least doing something!
Getting back into the swing of things will go a long way in helping you keep your sanity as you go through the wedding plan process. Trust me. It can be intense. I think the best thing I ever did was get mine together in 4 weeks on a limited budget because my sweetie and I were paying for the whole thing and did not want to go into debt for the ceremony. Everything was paid for in cash and all told (my dress included) it cost about $5k. If you want to go low key, I highly recommend doing appetizers for the reception. Most people won't mind and if they do ... tough.

Hi Chesley,
I'm fairly new to the group but congrats on your engagement! That's super exciting! I think when something big like that happens, it's kind of normal to fall out of your routine. It happens to all of us at some point or another. Good luck on getting back into your groove. I'm sure you'll find it
So good to have you back and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Peg is absolutely right about the exercise being a huge help during the ridiculousness that is planning a wedding. I just got married in November and I think my work outs were the only time that I didn't worry about guest count, seating arrangements, flower stuff, my hand made ceramic wedding favors... The list goes on. It's all usually good stress but it's very stressful nonetheless. And don't worry about the 2 workouts a week. Also like Peg said just the fact that you got those in is a huge win. Here's to getting things on track so you have a place to put the stress of creating such a wonderful day.
I'd like to take this time to thank all of you for your support and motivation. Wynne, you opening up your heart to me the other day really helped. I didn't bing yesterday or the day before and I'm confident I will be able to go another day. Manda, your slow and steady post was exactly what I needed. I've been feeling bummed lately with life drama and how long it's taken me to lose this baby weight. But I know with continued hard work and no binging, I will reach my goal(even if it's slow). I don't think all of you realize how good you make others feels(especially the ones going to difficulties). Peg, I did a work out dvd and went for walk yesterday! Your challenges has really helped me WANT to workout! I could mention something about every post!!! All of you are so wonderful. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

I felt REALLY FAT!!
posted by scotty64744 on 3:54 pm
I felt really fat today when I came home from work and decided to weigh to see how heavier I really am in the afternoons than first thing in the mornings.
This morning I weighed 145.1 (yes less than monday!!) but as the day wore on I started getting a head ache and have been quite droopy. I saw my outline in the door of our school building and LOOKED HUGE so I though HMMM I wonder what I weigh in the afternoons. Is the difference 2lbs? 5lbs? what.
OMG!! I weighed 144.6 this afternoon!!!
So awesome. Hope it is still gone on Monday!!!!!
by koreagirl32 on Mar 29, 2012 at 4:04 pm
I feel fat every day, but I really am. I also feel larger in the afternoon. I think my body swells up, because the pants that I can get into in the morning, by the night time I am busting out of them. I have no idea why. I think that's really good that you saw a weight decrease after you felt fat. That's such a relieving feeling.
by wnaber on Mar 29, 2012 at 5:08 pm
Wowza, Mel! good for you! What happened with the job thing? Koreagirl? You hang in there. We are all in the same boat here. It is always a joy reading your words. ONWARD and Downward! Take good care, Blessings, Wynne

Wynne I go for chicks in about 2 weeks...
I haven't heard anything back from the school, but my contract is due on Monday. I have 30 days to back out after I sign it, and I've prayed about it and am going to go ahead and sign it.
If I hear anything back at all it will be within that 30 day time period. Basically I'm playing the waiting game while trying to hold onto my current teaching possition. My big concern is I don't even know what grade I will teach next year there. I tried to find out from my principal today and she weezled out of talking to me so I won't have another chance until Monday to get what the school board's decision is.
Hey maybe that means she's received a call from the other school. The principal at that school and she are best friends and they even go to the same church so you never know....LOL
Wish me luck. Maybe by the next interview I can wear a size 8?
Mel
by wnaber on Mar 30, 2012 at 2:49 am
Mel, as you know I teach, so I know the waiting game. I will pray for you. Is this new place somewhere you really want to go? A new school? Is there any particular grade you like best to teach? I loved third, then got moved to 5th. Would I go back to third I was asked? I don't know. Such excitement. I am thrilled about the chicks! I also keep track of your stuff and regrills (abby's) gardening blog. How I want a small garden. Not to worry, I am bothering the men here to help me start a small bed. Have a good day, missy. wynne

I logged a loss after about 3 weeks of staying the same weight! So happy and now even more motivated than before. I am so glad to be surrounded by fellow shorties who are going through the same thing.

tiny moment of triumph

when i started using Livestrong, i weighed between 180 to 182. that is ALOT of weight for me at 5'2". i have dropped and gained back a few pounds here & there but am super excited to say that this morning, i weighed in at 169!! could've actually been 168, but our dial scale has really tiny lines and i was still half asleep when i got on this morning. that is super!! i had hit a little bit of a plateau with my weight and was having all kinds of binge issues. i am super tickled. my body measurements have also gone down a little bit or at least maintained with the exception of my waist. that is still stuck at 37.
i don't know how i ever let myself get like this; i was nearly this heavy once before when i was w my 2nd husband. he was is a bodybuilder and was always on my case about my weight. i went from 180 to 147 in about a year's time with him and while i was pleased with it, he kept calling me unhealthy and heavy. fast forward to our divorce and me not giving a rat's heiney about how i looked. fast forward a few more years and here i am, heavy again. i have told myself that i am not going to snack today; i am not going to the vending machine. i will eat my leftover chicken & greenbeans for lunch and be happy with it. if i didn't have the shorty support group i have w you guys, i would be miserable, that's for sure!

That's awesome! It's nice to find a method that works for you instead of having people try to tell you what's best for them.
by Marz2922 on Mar 29, 2012 at 10:42 am
You're doing great! I have to say that I am very happy that you aren't with that bodybuilding jerk anymore. He was definitely not supportive. We're all going to do this together and then be talking about how awesome we were getting where we wanted to be!

I know that feels GREAT!!! Awesome for u!

THANKS EVERYONE!! although i probably ruined my progress w/my sandwich from tropical smoothie and my drink i got. i got the wasabi roast beef & had half a mango madness smoothie made w/splenda. all in all, my lunch was about 600 calories, which isn't TERRIBLE, but i feel like i should've eaten my lunch i brought from home. i probably won't eat dinner tonight because believe it or not, i am still actually a little full. i am resisting the urge to bust into the easter candy i have in my desk that i have to keep here or else the BF might get into it at home. i have a meeting tonight i have to go to, so i think i'll sneak a quick walk in and then head out.

thanks for the words of encouragement everyone--it means a ton to me!

Well lost some self control yesterday. Don't think it has anything to do with it, but I'm up another pound!! Just last week I was 111 and now I'm 116! How is this happening. I'm back sliding. It took so much work to get out of the 130's, then 120's. Now I right at the door of entering where it I had just left. NNNNOOOO!!! I'm so mad at myself! Right before company comes down too :( I've been working out pretty much EVERYDAY! I've gone over my calories some days but not by that much. I don't know how the heck this happening. So Bummed!
by tammy1986 on Mar 29, 2012 at 4:36 am
Maybe you're getting too worked up about it. If you haven't gone over your calories that much and you've been working out consistently then it sounds pretty difficult to be gaining real weight. How's the sodium and water intake? Are you getting enough water? I weighed myself Monday and was 124 and just yesterday i was 122. I mean there's really no way I burned 7000 calories in that amount of time haha. Weight is a funny thing. I find it hard to believe that you've gained 5lbs while sticking to your calorie budget and working out. I bet it's just a combo of stress and water weight. You should go get a massage somewhere or a pedicure or anything relaxing. Maybe a yoga class. Just something for you to unwind. Keep your chin up and keep up your hard work, it will pay off!

look at your body first--see if your clothes are fitting differently. could be that you are building lean muscle with your workouts and you are dropping fat & gaining muscle. i try not to use the scale simply because it fluctuates way more than i like these days. i look at how my butt looks in my jeans and if my clothes are fitting looser than they were before.
try not to stress out too much--drink your water, do something that will relax you (i'm w/tammy--get a pedi or a massage), especially since you have folks coming in town. you will be alright--and you always have us here for support. :)

It is not 5 lbs of real weight. I know that doesn't make you feel any better because seeing a number we hate on the scale is depressing. Honestly, I think diets like Atkins can cause some crazy fluctuations....at least that has happened with a lot of my friends who have been on it. That's why I like to eat all healthy foods in moderation and not try to stick to any particular diet. That's just me, though. LOL
Anyway, my bet is you are retaining water. Perhaps more sodium in your diet, time of the month, hormonal fluctuations (I don't know if you breastfeed but if you do, that can do some crazy stuff to your weight), less water intake, etc. Also, your muscles retain water after intense workouts so that could be it too. Just drink lots and lots of water and give it a few days. Your weight WILL go back down. I know how hard it is to see that number go up...I'm dealing with a bit of that now so I totally understand. Take a deep breath, take your measurements, and see where you are. Measuring keeps me sane when the scale is telling me something I am not happy about. :-)
Take care!

Aw, that sucks to feel like that. I feel your pain, I've been pretty good but still up a few pounds from Monday. Maybe Atkins/South Beach just isn't working for you? It seems like you're having problems with binging so maybe try a different approach and see if keeping carbs in the diet helps you avoid binging and if you can control it better? Maybe just limiting carbs to 100g or 50g instead of trying to do ketosis would help. Keep your head up and just focus on staying on track and be proud of that, ignore the weight!

I know this is an old saying, but muscle weighs more than fat. A pound is a pound, yeah. But muscle has a higher density, so you're packing more into a smaller space. Do you feel or look bigger? If not, it could be that you're replacing fat with muscle. You have been exercising everyday, so that's a good indication.

Before you freak out, how soon is your period due? You can gain up to 10 lbs before and during your period and then since it's water weight, it goes away. It could also just be you gaining muscle since it weighs more. Don't get discouraged!!
