Day 1 of 30... ba da bing!

posted by higgygirl on 9:03 am

Ok.. just needed to boost myself for getting it done.
I joined here a while back and never tracked or logged in to this group.. thus, I never did the workouts.
Got the food tracking down, so exercise is KEY in getting the job done, right??????
Whoo hooo... see you tomorrow:)

by magic4real on February 4th 2010 at 9:18 am

I did the same, to hold myself more accountable in actually working out as often as I can.  Good luck with the Shred!

Jillian's Yoga DVD

posted by hoakley on 8:37 am

I'm a big Jillian fan.  Her DVDs are awesome.  Just wanted to let y'all know she's coming out with a yoga DVD.  It's not released yet, but you can see it on her web site or on Amazon.  Great job, everybody!  You're very motivating.

by angel31 on February 3rd 2010 at 9:12 am

I'll be interested to see what this is like!  In my head, Jillian and yoga just do not mix, LOL.  I'm sure it will definitely be power-yoga that will make you want to die!! :)

by audkey on February 3rd 2010 at 8:42 pm

Yoga sounds great! I have only tried sports yoga before, which was really not that great.  I hear that it is very relaxing and can help your body recover, which mine is screaming for right about now.  I did two days of level 3 and came back to level 2  today to change things up - which made level 2 seem much more intense.  Loving it, but my bones feel weak and sore from head to toes! Thinking about taebo tomorrow for some intense cardio and lengthening movements! Or maybe I deserve a day off?? How is everyone doing with your goals?  Has anyone seen some sort of amazing weight loss and would care to share it with me?  Love to hear some success for motivation.  Thanks!

Just joined - Love the Shred!

posted by littlejeffries on 8:24 am

I'm in my third week of the 30 day shred and I'm loving it.  I do, however, take the weekends off.  I've also begun running (if you can call it that at this stage), following the "Couch to 5K" program.  My boss challenged the entire team to run in a 5k race in May, and nothing would thrill me more than to cross the finish line before him!
I am already seeing a difference in my body.  I didn't take any beginning measurements, so I'll start logging those when I get home tonight.  Also, I've lost two pounds - not bad for 3 weeks.  Currently at 133 lbs, I hope to get down to 115 for my wedding in July.  Not unattainable, I was less than that 8 years ago.
I'm only at level 2, and still panting (choking on my heart, as Jillian says) so I'll stay until I feel I'm really ready for level 3.  No rush - I want to master these three workouts and then I'll continue to use them, but I'll rotate the workouts to give the different muscle groups some rest.
So excited to find a group like this.  Good luck everyone!

by angel31 on February 3rd 2010 at 9:10 am

Good luck to you as well!  I am also on Level 2, and it is still kicking my butt!  However, I do have to say that last night (Day 3 of Level 2) it did seem significantly easier, if you can call it that.  I also decided to modify one of the moves that wasn't working for me.  There is a section where they do a 'skater' move - I have barely enough room to do this, so I always mess it up.  So, last night I switched it to butt-kicks.  Much easier for my space limitations, but I was still panting like mad.

by dms49 on February 3rd 2010 at 2:16 pm

OMG!  I've been on level 1 for about 2 weeks.  Still can't make it without panting like a dog!  I'm 49 and don't know if that has anything to do with it but think I should give my heart a chance to make it through Level 1 without just about dyin before advancing.  Before this I haven't exercised regularly for about a year and have a desk job (thus the inspiration to do something before my butt gets any bigger)!  What do you guys think?

by angel31 on February 3rd 2010 at 4:17 pm

Hi dms49 - No worries!  Level 1 just about killed me at first, and I wasn't ready to move on to Level 2 until I had completed 15 days of Level 1.  I did take a 'rest' day every five days.  So, I think you are fine staying with Level 1 for at least another week.
I, too, work at a desk job, and haven't really been working out before this.  What a wake up call, LOL! :)

So I loved my first day of Level 1. It was hard - which is good because its motivating, and I had to do the easier versions of a few things---first few pushups were fine but by the end, I just had to put my knees down. But this morning I'm feeling good- except for my knee which I banged into my bedframe. Ouch! Hope it feels better by this evening- any ideas for making Level 1 easier on your knees?? Im  mostly worried about lunges.

Congrats! Thats awesome. I am on day 3 of level 2. I love level 2! I cannot wait until I get strong enough to go to level 3. The arms are killing me in level 2. Those crazy abs at the end.... OUCH! I am in my second week of the 30 day shred.

by angel31 on February 2nd 2010 at 8:32 am

Great job with Level 3!  How do you think it compares with Level 2?  I am not loving Level 2, so last night after working out I did a quick 'preview' of Level 3.  I do think I will like the moves much better, even though they look SO hard.

The funniest thing was watching Natalie *struggle* to keep up with the challenging versions at Level 3.  A lot of times the camera pans away from her because she is not keeping up with Jillian or Anita.  I do think I will move to Level 3 soon,  but stick with Anita for QUITE awhile.

Day 2

Well DAy 2 of the 30 day Shred level 1.  My legs were killing me today, but I pushed through and was pleased at myself for doing so.  I am really enjoying the 30 day shred.  Yesterday I also completed Jillian's "banish fat, boost Matabolism" 40 minute disk.  It was a lot tougher then the first level of the 30 day shred.  But has some great moves in there.
I think I am going to try to alternate the videos.   I bought the three pack of videos together.  The 30 day shred, Banish fat and boost matabolism and No more Trouble zones.    SO I guess tomorrow will be my first go around of the No more trouble zones video.  I will let you all know how it goes.

I just purchased 30 day shred today, and I can't wait to get home and do workout Level 1. I'm a bride, and what's stressing me out most is fitting into my wedding dress (well). I'd love to lose inches (dont care about the pounds as much) and benefit from the endorphins - February 2010 it all starts here.

Starting Over

posted by andaleca on 9:42 am

I started this challenge about 2 weeks ago and only made it one day before life got in the way.  I decided to start again today, February 1st, and try to exercise 1st thing in the morning for the entire month.  Well I made it this morning, but I sure do like to sleep!  The best motivation I ever received, but don't often live  by is - we all have the same minutes, same hours and same days; it is who makes the most of them.

by littlejeffries on February 3rd 2010 at 8:29 am

You can do it!  Give it a week and you'll be craving those workouts - really!  I started running in the morning, and I do the shred right after work when I get home.  After two weeks, if I don't do my workouts I actually feel like I'm missing out!

Level 2

posted by angel31 on 7:30 pm

OMG - I just did Level 2 tonight for the first time, and it was SO hard!  I couldn't finish all of the reps in the set for most of the moves; despite this, I was still DRIPPING with sweat when I finished.  I'm not sure I really like this level.  It seems that you have to concentrate move on form and coordination, which is annoying.  Plus, they are just moves that I personally don't care for.  Hopefully it will get easier as I start to memorize the routine like I did with Level 1.  I am determined to stick with Level 2 for 10 days, and then I'll move to Level 3.

Wish me luck -- these next 10 days are going to be a challenge!!

by dms49 on February 1st 2010 at 9:40 am

Ok - have been doing Level 1 for about 7 days- finally got through it today!
Is there anyone out there doing this that is 49 years old or older?  My friend is doing this (10 years younger) and is already on Level 2 and is seeing results.  Me?  Legs are getting bigger is all.  Any ideas on how to prevent bulky legs (yes - I'm 5'2 and have muscular legs)?  I've read on other sites to increase running, walking, etc.
Thanks for the advice!  Let's keep shredding!

by audkey on February 1st 2010 at 11:19 am

I noticed my legs getting bulky when I started as well, in fact, two weeks in I had gained a pound!  Thought I was doing something wrong.  I guess for some it may just be a natural progression to weight loss, build muscle first, then loose weight- it has certainly been my experience.  Since then I've lost 5 pounds, but my entire body has really slimmed down.  I also incorporated taebo t3 - 3x a week, and boflex 3x a week to assist me with reaching my goals, but I am the type of person that needs variety to stay interested, so it works for me.  Good luck, we are cheering for you !

New to the group

posted by Mane88 on 7:54 am

Hi everyone I'm new to the group and today is my day 6 with the 30 day shred. I use to be moderately active but fell off for 3months and gained 10lbs. Got back last month working out 6days a week doing the All star's workout, Gillard's mortion, 45mins to 1hr elliptical training, drinking more water and keeping calorie intake between 1200 t0 1400 only to gain 1lb after 3weeks. I felt discouraged and didnt workout for 3days during which I came across Tony Horton's 10minutes Trainer and 30day shred.
My goals is to loose 10lbs by March 14th which is my birthday, another 10lbs by May 18th which the end of the semester and 6inches off my waist. For the past week I have only been doing the 30day shred level 1 with one day off and I plan on switching to level 2 after 3weeks and level 3 after another 3weeks. I want to weigh myself and measure my waist only before moving to the next level. However I'm not certain if I'm on track and would reach my set goals with my workout routine So I would appreciate ideas, suggestions and motivations to keep me going. Thanks

by angel31 on January 31st 2010 at 7:23 pm

I think three weeks at each level sounds like a great plan!!  I just moved to Level 2 today after spending 15 days at Level 1.  I definitely think you will see great results by sticking to the program - working out with the Shred and keeping your calories around 1400.  (1200 seems kind of low to me.)  I also take one day off every five days.  (This is what Jillian reccomends in her book.)

Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing!!:)

Level 3 already?

posted by audkey on 10:08 am

I am thinking of moving to level 3.  It doesn't seem possible, but level 2 - although tough- does not seem as challenging as I thought it would be.  In fact, I think level 1 was much more difficult.  I am going to give level 3 a try this week.  Wish me luck!

by angel31 on January 30th 2010 at 4:31 pm

Really?!  This actually makes me feel better; I have been 15 days at Level 1, and will finally be moving on to Level 2 tomorrow.  I am actually kind of nervous about it, because Level 1 is still a challenge at times for me.  We will see how it goes!!  Good luck on Level 3, Audkey!!

I don't think that I have sweated so much during level 1 before. Hopefully by next week I will have new weights to make it more difficult. If you guys are in need of a little motivation check out ShredHeads blog. www.motherhooduncensored.net/shred/& nbsp; One of the leaders of the blog shows her 10 month bikin results and they are VERY inspirational. i'm on day 3 of the 30-day shred and loving it!  Curious...what is everyone entering for this workout on their Daily Plate?

by Tschaich on January 28th 2010 at 7:03 pm

I am always cautious about over estimating calories burnt so I use general aerobics categorie, but I know others are using the circuit training category. Also, if you have a heart rate monitor that is the most accurate way to determine how many you are burning...I don't have the bucks for that so this works well enough for me.

by angel31 on January 29th 2010 at 6:55 am

I use Circuit Training - Minimal Rest.  It seems about right for what we are doing, and then calorie count seems on target.
Keep us posted on how you are doing!!

Hello!
I'm new to the group so I just thought I'd say hello.  I am attempting to stay motivated to exercise daily and I just started doing the Shred after reading great reviews online.  Today was day 1 and I was dying lol.  I hope it gets better!

by dana-lee on January 27th 2010 at 7:31 pm

Welcome, asunw! The Shred will get better! You will probably start to notice a difference in your endurance by your 3rd or 4th workout. Stick with it!!!! And, keep us posted!

by angel31 on January 28th 2010 at 7:11 am

Welcome!  I just about died as well when I started the Shred, LOL.  However, like dana-lee said, I saw a HUGE difference in my endurance about the 4th day.  I just finished Day 14, and I've seen great results so far.  Good luck and definitely keep us posted!!

Hoping for a bit of motivation!

posted by magic4real on 4:43 pm

About a month ago I got the 30 Day Shred and was planning to do it every day.  Well....I've done it maybe once or twice a week since.  I really need to step things up!  So I'm joining this group hoping I can get the motivation to see through this!  I'd like to do the shred at least every other day, and alternate it with a favorite yogalates video I have.  I shredded today, so I'm calling this Day 1! :)

by audkey on January 27th 2010 at 6:26 pm

Congrats to you for sticking with it!! I am on week 3 and have been working out with Jillian 3-4 days a week alternating with Taebo T3 the other days. Alternating days with other dvds has really helped me stay interested in the workout and assisted with muscle confusion...which I hear is supposed to be a good thing.  So, good luck and we'll be cheering for you on your journey to be shredded!

by angel31 on January 28th 2010 at 7:14 am

It can definitely be tough to stick with it, but it is SO worth it!  You can do it!!  Someone mentioned that Jillian's book reccomends doing this workout with 5 days on, and then 1 day off.  So that is what I am doing!  I just finished up Day 14 today, so I have to work out tomorrow and then have Saturday off.  (I don't count my 'off days').
I am definitely starting to lose some enthusiasm, but I am also very stubborn and determined to stick with it.  When I start up again on Sunday, I am finally going to move to Level 2.  That should help keep things interesting.  I just wasn't ready to move up after Day 10, LOL.

by magic4real on January 28th 2010 at 12:16 pm

Alright, I just finished Day 2!!  Since I've been doing Level 1 on and off for a month now, I started these last two days with Level 2.  Wow is it kicking my butt!
