90 Day Challenge Group Group

About This Group

UPDATED: I'm extremely happy that we have so many people in this group, and I want EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US to accomplish our goals. To do this, we must have determination, focus, and support. The support, to me, is the key. I ask everyone to try and define their goals, and share them. Whether it be to quit smoking, lose a few pounds, or tone up, it is VITAL that we support and encourage one another. I wish everyone the best of luck on this journey. - John

Question

posted by Dionne35 on 4:03 pm

Hi, I noticed since running and doing the exercise tapes that my thighs feel a little snug in my jeans/pants. Is this normal? I have not been doing any weight training for my legs just lunges and kicks etc. And I have been sticking with a 1200-1700 calorie count . Has anyone else experienced this?

by ajmbenson on November 17th 2009 at 8:46 pm

I only walk and to eliptical- sometimes swim and yoga- no weights.  I noticed this week that I can't zip my dress boots all the way up over my calf anymore!  I was kind of bummed and excited at the same time.  I'm sure it's muscle.  Better tight in the thighs and calves than in the stomach and butt, right?!

Flexibility

posted by Dionne35 on 4:17 pm

I added a session of Pilates today and realized I have no flexibility at all (well some) but nothing like these intructors WOW.  The bootcamp was nothing compared to this. My legs were shaking, I hope to be just as flexible as it progesses. I hope everyone is having a great weekend and doing well in their individual goals. In whatever you do make it productive. Dee

Need the challange to stick to my goals

posted by blissiam on 1:51 pm

Hi All, I am 38 yrs old had my first baby 7 months ago and boy did I do a number on myself.  I took pregnancy in stride , No mood swings handled it all with grace and dignity!!  How did I handle it so well you might ask?? well I ate and ate and ate... it became my way of calming down my fears of the unknown, the pains and frustrations.   So I packed on almost 80 pounds!! To date Ive lost about 32 and still need to loose 50 more.  Also I have a history of yo yo dieting and have been up this high around 10 rs ago.  So the I just had a baby scenario is starting to lose its potency!!  I seem to be wavering in my dedication to getting the weight off, yes i WANT IT but I want it magically and easily.. That said I do feel like this 90 day challenge might be the commitment I need to get more serious.  I do better with goal and support.  So hopefully you guys can check in with me!  Thanks and looking forward to getting back in shape!  R

Be patient with yourself!  It's a very important and special time with your baby.  A friend of mine always reminded me the "post-partum" period is actually 18 months.  You'll get there!  I found nursing and long walks with babies in the stroller to be really helpful with weight loss.  Also, don't hesitate to get a really nice jogging stroller !( I got mine used).

Hi - I am ready for this challenge!

posted by heidirod on 5:59 am

Hello all !
I am a 44 year old woman who is ready to shed the weight I gained when I quit smoking (a pack a day, for 29 years) in June. Today it is 5 months of being smoke-free. Now I just need to take off the 10-15 lbs that I gained as a result of quitting. I am 5'7" and weigh 146 - my goal is 134. So, I have 90 days to reach my goal, including keeping the weight loss on track over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Yikes!  I lost 3.8 pounds this first week, but I do think some is water weight. I am all about doing this the healthy way - for the first time in my life. I am concentrating on not just losing weight for appearance sake, but on being healthy. For the past year I have been active - before that I was a total lazy slug. I relied on cigarettes to keep my eating and metabolism in check. I joined the YMCA, and now I attend spinning classes, water aerobics, water jog, and swim laps. I am about to start strength training - I need it - I can't do even one pushup.
I am ready and accept this challenge - bring it on!

Need a new group!

posted by ajmbenson on 5:07 pm

Hi all,
I'm excited to join this group- wow, it's a big one!  I started out on Livestrong about a month ago.  Two of my sisters were doing this with me, but have since stopped making entries.  I found the daily sharing helpful, so here I am.  I am a 39 year-old mom of three (10,5,3 yrs. old) and am making a commitment to myself and my health.  I have been exercising 4-5 mornings a week at 6:30am and I am NOT a morning person- that is just when I can fit it in.  I'm loving it.  After the first two weeks of feeling like I was going to die being up so early, I've adjusted and it gives me energy for my day and more love and attention for my kids and my at-home photography business.  I have a good self-image, but it's a bit out of sync with reality.  In truth, I'm 20-25 pounds overweight.  It's a dangerous path for me because of obesity and diabetes in my family.  So, I''m not going to let it get out of control.  I've lost  2 pounds so far- on my way to 20!  Wish me luck.  I've enjoyed reading some of your entries and wish you all the best with your goals.  It means a lot that we are out here and sharing support!

I am 39 and my goal is to lose 15-20 lbs, I've lost 75 pounds with Jenny Craig and have kept it off for the past two years but have gained 10 -15 pounds. I've started a 1200 - 1500 calorie per day program (my own program based on post Jenny) and I hope to lose 1-2 pounds per week. I haven't quite gotten the motivation to start running again but I did walk yesterday for 45 mins. Good luck to you all and hopefully this group will keep me motivated.

New Beginnings

posted by vgreene on 1:03 pm

Hi Everyone!
I am taking on the 90 Challenge- Tomorrow will start my new journey. I am 25 years old, 5"7" and currently at 209lbs. I have recently lost 40 pounds since March, but I feel stuck lately. During the 90 days, I want to loose 3lbs a week, make my work outs more intense, quit social smoking cigarettes, and cut back on my alcohol intake. I currently go to the gym 5-6 days a week, I do anything from Cardio Classes, Zumba, Step classes, Ab Classes and weight training 2-4 days a week. I think I am going to start running again to give my body an extra boost, and hopefully do a 5K in December.
It's been a long path, but I am trying to stay focused and confident that one day I will reach my goal weight of 145lbs.  I am here to offer my endless support and motivation as well as to receive support and motivation in return. I am going to do my best to cut out the binge eating, the binge drinking, and focus more on foods that will fill me up and make me healthier in the long run, even if I do not enjoy eating them at the time! I am so grateful to have had this website reccomended-- now it's so much easier for me to count my calories and actually see my progress all in the same place.  WISH ME LUCK!! and good luck to you!!

I am finally becoming FIT!

posted by blueeyedjenne on 11:22 am

Hello everyone,
It is so awesome that we are all on the road to good health and fitness. I have been thin in the past from dieting, but never truly 'fit'. My 90 day FITNESS goal includes exercising regularly, watching calories, meditating and self reflecting. Being fit in all respects is imperative!
It is my intention to burn off 30 pounds by January 19th, however, I am not attached to that number. Because I am doing everything I possibly can do to achieve optimum health and fitness, I know my body will continue to respond accordingly.

Best wishes to everyone!

I am 5"2 and about 125 pounds. I want to lose 2 lbs per week and need to loose altogether atleast 10 pounds to achieve my normal weight. I exercise 5 days a week doing strength training atleast 2-3 times a week and rest of the days cardio. I track everything down what I eat with a target calorie goal. My problem is that till dinner I am well within the limits and for dinner I try to over eat. That way I am over 100-200 calories over  my calorie goal almost every day. Otherwise I am so hungry at night I cannot sleep properly. I am hoping the tips from this group will help me. How can I control my cravings and loose weight.

Today is my first day and I'm looking forward to working towards my goal with your support.  I am a 40 y.o.mom weighing in at 155 lbs.  I am 5' 5" and would like to lose 30 pounds.  Over the past year and a half, I became more sedentary and found myself to be so out of shape that I ended up with high blood pressure.  I need to become more active, make healthier choices for my meals, and watch the portions.  Its so easy to go back for 2nds or even 3rds of my favorite dishes but I need to learn to take my time while eating and drink a glass of water prior to each meal.
Thank you in advance for listening and keeping me accountable for my actions.  The best Christmas present I could get would be to fit into my size 4 "skinny" jeans again!!!  Let the journey begin:-)

Please - Need your best fitness tips!!

posted by willough on 4:57 am

Hi everyone, I'm looking for the best way to transform body fat to lean mass.  I'm in my early 50s so my body has "turned" on me in the last few years and coincidentally, I had a serious injury at the same time which kept me sidelined from all my activities for 18 months.  So, the fat crept in along with menopause...metabolism slowed, and I ate whatever I wanted, and they only exercise I do is horseback riding every so often.  I've always been thin, still am, but my body composition is horrible!
So, help me out here. I'm 5'9" and weigh 135.  My BMI is 20.1 and body fat is 29%!!!  I can't afford to join a gym but I have a treadmill and can get outside.  I'm now tracking my food intake and calories limiting myself to 1300 a day.  I need to start exercising to get fit but also I need OPTIMAL exercises to start shedding the fat layer and gaining muscle.
Bring in on!!!  I'd love to hear all your suggestions!
Thanks and I've really enjoyed reading everyone's 90 day challenge goals.

Green Fitness

posted by MaryBGallatin on 12:59 am

My goal is to combine living a greener life with becoming fit. Eating organic and local tastes and feels better. I know that I love fruits for breakfast and as a snack and vegetables for lunch. I don't miss meat when I don't have it. I feel mentally stronger when I exercise regularly. My goal is making room in my schedule for longer and daily workouts including a lot more stretching. I feel physically stronger when I eat less. My goal is 1 meal, 1 minimeal and 1 snack per  day. I'd like to further limit my alcohol intake because I sleep better. So with all those good intentions, logical reasons and this group's support, I'm ready to start living my best life, a greener and fitter life.

Then we do something outdoors on weekend- backpacking or rockclimbing skiing in winter , and we rest the other day.  I don't eat a whole lot - try to keep by calories around 1000 per day- I eat a lot of veggies but do have a sweet tooth, often trading in a meal for a treat- I know this I am working on.
Any ideas to help me out?
My 3 month goal is to continue this schedule through Thanksgiving  Then set another goal.

I don't believe in quiting but it's becoming hard for me to stay motivated when everyone else is so much better at it than I am.

How about instead of doing laps on your own, you get swimming lessons. I'm sure there's a YMCA nearby where you can enroll in an adult swimming class. You'll improve your form(freestyle i'm assuming) as well as learn new styles and you'll improve your stamina for swimming. Besides learning something new will make it less tedious(practicing outside of the class will be more fun too since you'll have a goal to improve upon some stroke you learned in that weeks class).  There will be a certain amount of accountability(since you're wasting money if you don't go to a lesson you already paid for not to mention your coach and all your classmates asking where you were last week) Most of all you'll gain confidence in your abilities and maybe one day while your out at the beach you'll be able to save someone from drowning.

Kickit01 -  I bought the VitaMix blender at the Puyalup Fair years ago.  I loved it at first, then just liked it.  It was loud.  Bulky.  But, it was expensive, so just like my Kitby vacuum cleaner, I will be burried with it.  That being said.... I am now doing a remote in Turkey.  Of course my blender did not come with me.  I bought one here than promised to crush ice, and make smoothies.  It lied!  It sucked.  I threw it away after the first month of frustration.  I have now bought a Cuisinart blender.  It blends my frozen berries into nice smoothies, and I have no real complaints, but...... I miss my VitaMix!  I am back to loving it.  I guess I just needed to see what I was using before to remember what I loved about that loud clunky thing!
I say if you are an occasional blender user, go with the $75-$125 blender purchase.  Cuisinart, Kichenaide. But, if you know you will be drinking smoothies daily, want to make homemade ice cream, soups, etc, take the plunge and go with the VitaMix.
My opinion.

Thank you for the input.
Funny side note: about 20 years agoI sold Kirby vacumme cleaners for 1 day.

I've heard those Turkish blenders really stink. :-)

I will be using the blender a lot; so I think I'm sold on the VitaMix.  Tomorrow I'm taking my wife and son to the California State Fair.  My family knows I love the "Infomercial Area", they will be shocked when I open up the wallet and pay about $400 for a blender.

Make it a Great Day!

RIght on track (again)......no falling off this time.

I’m feeling pretty motivated, but really tired. Not sure how I’m going to get my energy up, but know something has go to give.
Here are my updated stats
08/07 – 266 (Achieved)
08/14 – 264 (Achieved)
08/21- 262 – Going to try to achieve this by the end of the week, to gain momentum on my plan.
Hopefully, I can speed up my pace a little bit. I wanted to be closer to 200lbs by the end of the year. So far I have gone up and down ion the scale, and I’ve only lost a total of 13 lbs since beginning in January. Oh well! I"m still trying, and won't give up.
08/28 - 260

beginning again

posted by gtg434x on 7:10 pm

I lost about ten pounds in january and have gained back five. I would like to stick to my new years resolution and be under 130 by the end of the year. I am currently at 148 so that gives me about 19 pounds. In the next 90 days I would like to lose at least 15 pounds (if not the whole thing!) and quit smoking. I am down to three cigarettes a day and have about 15 left in my pack. After this pack, I am planning to go cold turkey.. unless anyone thinks it would be better to use those losenges.. just wondering if they might be just as addictive.

I think all of these ideas are great. I'm at 147lbs and would like to get rid off 20!!! My inspiration would be a hot little pink bathing suit that's laying in my room and waiting for December to take on vacation!!!! Making moves towards becoming more active...Boot camp in Sept for a month and 4 mile race on Sept 12th!! I have to upload a before pic to challenge myself each day. Looking forward to take that after pic and upload it as well!!!

Motivation

posted by kthao on 7:57 am

I think we should all share our motivations/inspirations with everyone so maybe someone who needs it can pick up on our ideas. One thing I use for motivation is I put a picture of a very hot girl on my refrigerator so when I see her it makes me not want to eat as much. Another thing I'll do is go buy a pair of jeans in the size I want to be and look at it every morning. So umm, let's hear it peoples...

90 Day Challenge – Re-evaluating my goals and trying to get them on track, again. Overall, I would like to kick about 15-20 inches all over my body by the end of October.
08/07 – 266
08/14 – 264
08/21- 262
08/28 – 260
09/04 – 258
09/11 – 256
09/18 – 254
09/25 – 252
10/02 – 250
10/09 – 248
10/16 – 246
10/23 – 244
10/30 – 242
11/06 – 240
In pursuit to a healthier existence I have become mildly obsessed with the process. I know to get the results that are needed; I will have to try my utmost to zone in on my target. This weekend, I am beginning a new health journal, and putting all my goals and logs into it. Online is great, but I needed to have more of a visual that can stay next to my refrigerator, to remind me of my target.

Day 1

posted by SherreeS on 7:39 am

Hello all! This is a perfect group because 90 days is about what I have left before my son's wedding. I would love to be down about 20 lbs by then. May be wishful thinking but I'm gonna work my hardest to get there. I joined Sport and Health gym in May and even got a trainer. She is wonderful! Getting myself there hasn't been as easy as I hoped because with school out I can't find the time. I take them on Wednesday's and Friday's because they have a kids program on those days but 2 days a week isn't enough for me. I really love to workout too. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Have a wonderful day!

I bought a few Jillian Michaels workout videos and love them, particularly the 30-day shred.  It's not the world's hardest workout, but it's an intense 30 minutes that you can do at home with just a yoga mat and some 3-8lb hand weights.  I do it in my bedroom or living room when I don't have time to go to the gym, and you should be able to do it with your kids around the house!  Good luck!

10 lbs by my bday ..

posted by Meanmissc on 12:19 am

I have a blog on my personal site about it and I am 10 days into this , my scale says I have lost 6 lbs but I dont believe it. My clothes all still fit the same so I'll wait until I can fit into my 4 years ago jeans to see the difference.
I need to lose more than 10 lbs but I am makin small goals so as not to get discouraged at how long this will take.
As of today the scale reads 6 pounds for 10 days of effort.  I guess I'll see if it carrys on

Stop the madness!!!

posted by Kickit01 on 11:05 pm

I now realize why I can work out and not loose any weight, I need to read the labels.... Duh... I had a few slices of Red Baron pizza with my 7 year old; nice father son moment, until I realized we were eating something that can eventually kill us. Check out these stats... 680 calories, 36 grams of fat, 1,560 mg sodium, 60 grams of carbs, This is poison dressed up like food.

You are so right about the poison being dressed up as food. That's the Standard American Diet at it's best. NOT GOOD! Kudos for recognizing it.

Why does poison have to be so darm tasty!  I make my own pizza's.  The possibilities are endless.  You can specialize them just the way you want.  On my Hawaiin pizzas, for the sause I whirl up fresh pizza sauce, baked beans, and black beans.  I use the liquid from the pineapple to thin it out.  I use that as the sauce.  It is really good. You have a sauce, a good source of protein, fiber, lutien.  Pizza's are one of the funnest things to create!  Your son can get involved to as a way of expanding your "nice father son moment"!  Teach him great habits now.  Like, don't develop a taste for poison!  Ha ha!

I found that out the hard way too! I had just ONE slice of a vegetable barbeque pizza and until i looked at the packet was happy that id just had one. If only i hadnt! Its taught me to check the packaging BEFORE i eat anything just incase theres any hidden nasties in there :)

Hi everyone! I'm very excited. My goal is to lose roughly twenty pounds (currently 141 Ibs, 5' 3.5''). I like eating healthy, but I always find some random snack to bite on. Hopefully I can follow this through to the finish this time!
