90 Day Challenge Group Group

About This Group

UPDATED: I'm extremely happy that we have so many people in this group, and I want EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US to accomplish our goals. To do this, we must have determination, focus, and support. The support, to me, is the key. I ask everyone to try and define their goals, and share them. Whether it be to quit smoking, lose a few pounds, or tone up, it is VITAL that we support and encourage one another. I wish everyone the best of luck on this journey. - John

New Start

posted by chubbychaps on 7:30 pm

Hi everyone. I haven't been finding the motivation to exercise and eat healthier like i used to a year ago. I always tell myself "I'm going to start, I'm going to start" and never do. So I joined this group hoping that having a goal could motivate me to get back to my healthy self again. I will start the 90 day challenge tomorrow and will post a blog every week saying how my journey is going. I hope you all can accomplish your goals and make new ones after to stay healthy. :D

Hi all, just trying to start some healthy habits.  Anybody reading or considering the book Thrive by Brendan Brazier?  I'm thinking about starting the Power 90 workout program in combination with the Thrive 12-week meal plan.  Seems like the payoff will be great if I can complete these two programs.  What do you think? The goal is to start 1-1-2012

Starting 90 Day Challenge today!

posted by mommie2micah on 9:35 pm

I am excited to have found this website. It seems like it will be very useful to me in reaching my weight loss goals. I have gained a lot of weight over the past year and am struggling to get back in shape. I had a miscarriage last December and since then have progressively gained weight. I feel stuck and discouraged with my weight. I am angry with myself for letting it get out of control. I am ready to take back control and fight and work hard!

Another 'Newbie' :)

posted by amw_0328 on 8:10 am

I've been on and off livestrong for a couple of years. and my weight has been pretty consistently around 30lbs too high. I'm one of those types who goes up and down about 10 lbs, but can't seem to get myself past the 145lbs mark. Oh, and in case you all were wondering - i'm 5'2'' and very petite. so, 145lbs is still very much 'overweight' for me - I'm definitely not looking to get model thin, but 115-120 would put me in the healthy BMI range, which is what I'm shooting for. Losing 1-2 lbs is very hard for me, as my calorie goals are only about 1000/day because of my age and height and general light activity level just to maintain my current weight. Obviously, restricting them further is unhealthy, so a goal of 30 lbs in 90 days seems daunting - esp over the holidays! - but I'm going to give it a try . :)
I guess I'm hoping joining a group will give me some external accountability! I'm a very healthy eater, with an occasional sweet tooth, but I'm terrible at regular 'structured' exercise. Physically I can accomplish a good workout, but mentally, I get very bored with a typical 'gym' environment (weights, classes, treadmills, etc). I do walk quite a bit as I live/work in a downtown/urban area; and I garden pretty regularly (but now that winter is approaching, that's obviously not going to give me too much outdoorsy time). I used to do a lot of yoga years ago and fell off that bandwagon after a pretty severe knee injury (torn ACL), so I'm hoping to get a yoga routine started again that I can keep up with at least a 3x/week, mixing in some trail running about 2x/week. Hopefully, that will give me the boost I need. Any other suggestions would be VERY appreciated.
start weight: 145.
goal weight: 115
goal: 30 lbs.
good luck to everyone else in the group and your own goals.

Even at 5'2 1000 cals a day is too low.  (I'm only 5'3).  Women should not eat less than 1200.  (I just completed nutrition and weight management classes to renew my trainer certification.)
If you are starting out at 145 pounds between .5-1.5 pounds lost per week is a resonable goal.  (No more than 1% of your body weight per week.)    Which comes to no more than 18 pounds in a 90 day period.  Don't try to push it and go to fast.  I know when we decide we want to lose weight we want it off NOW.  But make sure you do it in a healthy way.  When I lost my weight several years ago it was 75 pounds in 1 year.  If you take it off slow and steady you are more likely to keep it off.
Experiment with different forms of exercise until you find something you enjoy.  My saving grace was when I discovered the martial arts.  Now I'm an instructor and training for my black belt test in June.
If you put your mind and body to it, you CAN reach a healthy weight and live a healthy lifestyle.

New Beginning

posted by deda45 on 11:55 pm

Over the past 10 years I have stopped and started too many diet and exercise routines to count.  I need a challenge that will keep me on track and I think the 90 day challenge will.  Procrastination is a problem so this will help with an end date.  Also, support is needed.  Everyone in my family is active and healthy and I don't want to be left behind.
This is more about taking control and getting fit than anything else.  For me that means losing 35 lbs and exercising at least 3 times a week.

Hello All, I have been a member of live strong for quite some time...but just like others I start and stop at times.  I started this site weighing 250 got down to 200 and I am currently at 205....I took a break for a LONG while...but the pounds have stayed off :) .......now I gotta get these 45 pounds I want off....I feel I can live with 160 as weight to maintain, even though I am sure others may beg to differ. I can't even lie, working out daily and watching everything you eat can be tiring, but I do credit not packing on too many pounds by that dreadful word "Moderation".  So 45 is the goal by thanksgiving.  It is my goal to lose 30 pounds in 90 days..and the whole 45 would be great.!

First day of the 90

posted by bevjd on 5:32 pm

Hi Everyone,
Glad to be a part of this group because I know for sure that I can't lose the fat that I have, by myself.  Been there, done that.  I have been doing a very active bootcamp for about 6 months now and have gained 6 pounds.  My objective upon joining the bootcamp was to have my clothes fit a little looser.  WRONG!  I have done all the workouts (3 per week) and am in much better shape, but they tell me that the diet is 80%.  I just wanted to bypass the whole diet thing altogether.  Well, here I am.  I have a plan, but sticking to it is tough.  I want to eat sweets all the time.  Day one is almost over and I just have to be strong through the evening which is my hardest part of the day.  I can do it!

by cynthiastewart on Aug 1, 2011 at 2:54 pm

I think we all struggle with that food thing....I can workout all day and still attempt to eat wrong! When I lost weight quickly and I know you shouldn't do this but it worked for me...I would work out and burn 500-600 calories a day and not eat over 1,000 calories ( 1200 is the lowest recommendation by nutritionist) and made sure I had less than 20 grams of fat daily....the weight melted off....but its hard.

So today is day 1 of my 90 day challenge.  I tracked everything I ate, and I also tracked my workouts.  According to my food log, I didn't go over my calorie intake because I worked out so the net total was 1022.  I'm on a 1239 calorie diet.  I plan on working out atleast 4x a week.  I will post my weight every friday and see what my progress is.  Good luck to everyone.. speak to you soon

week 1 completed - 1.6 pounds down

posted by leskash on 11:12 am

So my first week of tracking with livestrong is complete. I probably ate more which is probably true that i was not eating enough for the intense workouts i love to do.  I lost 1.6 pounds so now I am at my lowest point since January.  Only downward from here.  my goals is about 2 pounds a week.  A lot of people are noticing that I look "skinnier" even if the pounds are not reflecting that.  so that is good. I hope those workouts are helping.  even though I love to do it and love how I feel, i would like some physical changes too.  :)
Going to keep plugging along.

Day 1

posted by leskash on 12:56 pm

I have lost 19 pounds since January 1 but really none since about April.  I need to track food and be more consistent in no sugar, no processed.  Exercise is good.  Everyone says its good since you are exercising.  Right but the fact remains that I am 195 pounds - no matter how fit, at my height I am obese.  So I am going to track everything and try to post at least once a week.  that should keep me accountable.  90 days - 2 pounds a week - about 170 by October - totally doable.
Looking forward to being accountable to group.

Day 1

posted by dollface777 on 8:47 pm

Hi! I am new to this site as of today. I am a 42 year old mother of 2 boys. I am an esthetician and I do permanent makeup also.  I had lapband surgery in October and had lost 49 pounds. The last couple of months have been a major struggle for me as far a diet though. I am exercising though. I go to the YMCA and also like to bike ride. In the past couple months I have gained about 9 pounds back and need to get my motivation back. Lapband surgery is NOT a fix-all. You def have to do your part! I need accountability and motivation. At the start of Day 1 of this 90 day challenge, I weigh 168. I would like to lose as much as possible in this 90 day period. I don't know how much of a goal to set though.

Hello fellow travelers!

posted by BigDubDub on 12:20 pm

Like everyone else in here to one extreme or another I am started on a renewed journey of being a more fit person. I am presently 5 foot 11 inches tall at a body weight of 235 pounds. I am in the Army so I am used to "PT" but I have always been a "big guy". I have two surgically repaired knees and I am definitely NOT getting any younger!! A few years ago I managed to get down to 204 lbs on an Atkins inspired low carb diet. I felt great on this diet and it very effectively whittled the weight off me in just a couple of months, however, I am trying to have a little more balance this time around so that I can maintain my weight loss unlike last time when it creeped right back on me. I have just discovered the Live Strong site and I am excited by the tools available as well as the motivation provided. I started tracking everything I eat and I am learning everyday about my eating habits things I would have not noticed otherwise. Hopefully my eating will improve with time as I continue to log my eating habits. I have also begun taking Cardio Kick-boxing classes to jumpstart my efforts. I have never participated in any types of fitness classes like this and it has been quite a shock to my system so far, in a good way...I love it! I am also an avid weight lifter which probably helps me carry 235 lbs on a 71 inch frame without being incredibly over on the bodyfat side of the house. BUT, I am going to get down to 200 lbs, hook or crook!!! I am willing to make the changes neccessary in order to do so. Once I get there I plan to do a reassessment to see where I can go from there. 200 may just be a jump off point to go another 5, 10 or maybe even 15 lbs lighter. I need to see how well my body responds to dropping to 200 first. Thanks for all the support and encouragement that I am sure I will find on here, let's do this!

Question

posted by Dionne35 on 4:03 pm

Hi, I noticed since running and doing the exercise tapes that my thighs feel a little snug in my jeans/pants. Is this normal? I have not been doing any weight training for my legs just lunges and kicks etc. And I have been sticking with a 1200-1700 calorie count . Has anyone else experienced this?

by ajmbenson on Nov 17, 2009 at 8:46 pm

I only walk and to eliptical- sometimes swim and yoga- no weights.  I noticed this week that I can't zip my dress boots all the way up over my calf anymore!  I was kind of bummed and excited at the same time.  I'm sure it's muscle.  Better tight in the thighs and calves than in the stomach and butt, right?!

by CARRMA on Feb 4, 2010 at 12:06 am

Yes that is normal.  When you exersice your basicly ripping the muscle tissue. So your body repairs the tissue and makes it thicker so it wont tear as easly in the future.  So you can expect to she your muscles grow a little bit but they should becoming much more firm and resilient.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Need the challange to stick to my goals

Hi All, I am 38 yrs old had my first baby 7 months ago and boy did I do a number on myself.  I took pregnancy in stride , No mood swings handled it all with grace and dignity!!  How did I handle it so well you might ask?? well I ate and ate and ate... it became my way of calming down my fears of the unknown, the pains and frustrations.   So I packed on almost 80 pounds!! To date Ive lost about 32 and still need to loose 50 more.  Also I have a history of yo yo dieting and have been up this high around 10 rs ago.  So the I just had a baby scenario is starting to lose its potency!!  I seem to be wavering in my dedication to getting the weight off, yes i WANT IT but I want it magically and easily.. That said I do feel like this 90 day challenge might be the commitment I need to get more serious.  I do better with goal and support.  So hopefully you guys can check in with me!  Thanks and looking forward to getting back in shape!  R

Be patient with yourself!  It's a very important and special time with your baby.  A friend of mine always reminded me the "post-partum" period is actually 18 months.  You'll get there!  I found nursing and long walks with babies in the stroller to be really helpful with weight loss.  Also, don't hesitate to get a really nice jogging stroller !( I got mine used).

Good luck and never give up as long as you stay determined you will succed.
But remember when your trying to lose weight your body may not want too. The body has its own idea on what your weight shoud be.  So you need to break it.  Youll lose weight then it will seem that over night you've put a few pounds back on. But don't get discouraged.  If you keep exercising and eating right your body reset that weight lower and lower untill you get where you want to be.

Hi - I am ready for this challenge!

posted by heidirod on 5:59 am

Hello all !
I am a 44 year old woman who is ready to shed the weight I gained when I quit smoking (a pack a day, for 29 years) in June. Today it is 5 months of being smoke-free. Now I just need to take off the 10-15 lbs that I gained as a result of quitting. I am 5'7" and weigh 146 - my goal is 134. So, I have 90 days to reach my goal, including keeping the weight loss on track over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Yikes!  I lost 3.8 pounds this first week, but I do think some is water weight. I am all about doing this the healthy way - for the first time in my life. I am concentrating on not just losing weight for appearance sake, but on being healthy. For the past year I have been active - before that I was a total lazy slug. I relied on cigarettes to keep my eating and metabolism in check. I joined the YMCA, and now I attend spinning classes, water aerobics, water jog, and swim laps. I am about to start strength training - I need it - I can't do even one pushup.
I am ready and accept this challenge - bring it on!

Congrats, I know first hand how hard it is after quitting smoking. It's been five years for me. Good luck on the challenge.

Need a new group!

posted by ajmbenson on 5:07 pm

Hi all,
I'm excited to join this group- wow, it's a big one!  I started out on Livestrong about a month ago.  Two of my sisters were doing this with me, but have since stopped making entries.  I found the daily sharing helpful, so here I am.  I am a 39 year-old mom of three (10,5,3 yrs. old) and am making a commitment to myself and my health.  I have been exercising 4-5 mornings a week at 6:30am and I am NOT a morning person- that is just when I can fit it in.  I'm loving it.  After the first two weeks of feeling like I was going to die being up so early, I've adjusted and it gives me energy for my day and more love and attention for my kids and my at-home photography business.  I have a good self-image, but it's a bit out of sync with reality.  In truth, I'm 20-25 pounds overweight.  It's a dangerous path for me because of obesity and diabetes in my family.  So, I''m not going to let it get out of control.  I've lost  2 pounds so far- on my way to 20!  Wish me luck.  I've enjoyed reading some of your entries and wish you all the best with your goals.  It means a lot that we are out here and sharing support!

Good luck! I really need to get a scale so I can start checking my weight loss. I'm trying to get into the early morning work-out but I run during my lunch break. We have about the same amount to lose.

Day One

posted by Dionne35 on 7:25 pm

Hi Everyone,
Today is my first day on my diet again and my first day with the 90 day challenge. I am 39 and my goal is to lose 15-20 lbs, I've lost 75 pounds with Jenny Craig and have kept it off for the past two years but have gained 10 -15 pounds. I've started a 1200 - 1500 calorie per day program (my own program based on post Jenny) and I hope to lose 1-2 pounds per week. I haven't quite gotten the motivation to start running again but I did walk yesterday for 45 mins. Good luck to you all and hopefully this group will keep me motivated.

I desperately need your help to get back on track. Thanks.

New Beginnings

posted by vgreene on 1:03 pm

Hi Everyone!
I am taking on the 90 Challenge- Tomorrow will start my new journey. I am 25 years old, 5"7" and currently at 209lbs. I have recently lost 40 pounds since March, but I feel stuck lately. During the 90 days, I want to loose 3lbs a week, make my work outs more intense, quit social smoking cigarettes, and cut back on my alcohol intake. I currently go to the gym 5-6 days a week, I do anything from Cardio Classes, Zumba, Step classes, Ab Classes and weight training 2-4 days a week. I think I am going to start running again to give my body an extra boost, and hopefully do a 5K in December.
It's been a long path, but I am trying to stay focused and confident that one day I will reach my goal weight of 145lbs.  I am here to offer my endless support and motivation as well as to receive support and motivation in return. I am going to do my best to cut out the binge eating, the binge drinking, and focus more on foods that will fill me up and make me healthier in the long run, even if I do not enjoy eating them at the time! I am so grateful to have had this website reccomended-- now it's so much easier for me to count my calories and actually see my progress all in the same place.  WISH ME LUCK!! and good luck to you!!

the group.  However, I have had surgery on foot - ruptured tendons and torn ligaments.  6 weeks in hard cast and 6 weeks in walking cast with therapy.  No exercise and my weight loss goals have seen better days!  I wish you all well and hope to be back in the group after healing.  spokes55

Hello everyone!  I'm 42 years old, 5'5 and 120 pounds.  Like many others I noticed at 40 that my body starting doing things I DIDN'T like!  I work out at the gym daily and am looking to tone and firm.  I alternate treadmill and eliptical with a weight lifiting program.  Two days a week I attend "Boot Camp" offered during my lunch period at work.  If anyone has tips or exercise ideas for firming the legs and butt I'm ALL ears!

I am finally becoming FIT!

posted by blueeyedjenne on 11:22 am

Hello everyone,
It is so awesome that we are all on the road to good health and fitness. I have been thin in the past from dieting, but never truly 'fit'. My 90 day FITNESS goal includes exercising regularly, watching calories, meditating and self reflecting. Being fit in all respects is imperative!
It is my intention to burn off 30 pounds by January 19th, however, I am not attached to that number. Because I am doing everything I possibly can do to achieve optimum health and fitness, I know my body will continue to respond accordingly.

Best wishes to everyone!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this group and am in desperate need of some motivation! I used to love running daily but somehow got off track and stopped. I want to start up again and start tracking my calories too. I'm doing this to boost my self-esteem, get mentally healthy, and lose some lbs! Please help me out!!

by blueeyedjenne on Oct 7, 2009 at 11:39 am

Conceive, Believe, Achieve!

Congrats anchor12. You have the desire, now do what is necessary to stay motivated. I find the daily plate to be very helpful because you can SEE what you are consuming and track your calories burned through exercise.
There is a whole community of people just like YOU who are making the commitment to achieve optimum health!

Best wishes~!
