damn scale

posted by butrflychasr on 9:36 am

ok, saturday morning weigh in at 192.3....1/2 hr later 195, i didn't eat was just puttering around the house and filling bird feeder. then again today early i weighed in at 191 now 193.6  now do i save the heavier weight or the lower one? maybe split the difference ??
i know it isn't much but it is driving me crazy

by n0dice1 on Jan 15, 2012 at 12:00 pm

you need to be NOT weighing yourself multiple times a day let alone multiple times a week !!!    weight changes throughout the day based on water intake, weather, muscle density, menstrual cycles promoting bloating etc. don't be scale obssessed!!! and i won't even get into simple cheap household scales, how messed up they can get if they are stepped on repeatedly or moved in just the slightest way. use your favorite outfit as a judge of your body changes,
and pick ONE day a week to weigh yourself; I like to do monday morning (ensures i stay on track during the weekend)  , i get on the scale one time monday morning after i go #1 and #2 before i eat or drink anything

I agreee with nodice1, don't be scale obsessed it'll just drive you up a wall and you'll start howling at the moon. I recommend checking out your weight with only one scale (different scales may weigh you differently).  And that you weigh yourself only once every two weeks or so (that's what I do).  And you should defenitely weigh yourself in the morning after you've done your business in the bathroom.

Bitching!

Today I am so sore! I only did a five minute circuit of squats, lunges, and step-ups and my legs are on fire today!
I finished up my workout with 30 minutes on the elliptical. I feel good and bad at the same time.

ARRRGH

posted by lisalisa51 on 3:19 pm

OK so party to go to on Saturday night. Bar, drunk friends etc. What do I drink??? I will not do beer as thats just loaded with cals. I was thinking vodka and diet coke.  I know soda isn't the best but cran etc is loaded with sugars and cals. Any ideas??? And no; I will not be the designated driver lol.  I just don't want to let one night ruin all of my progress

by sarahrv on Jan 6, 2012 at 8:37 pm

If you take your favorite liquor and mix it with water, diet soda, or soda water, you'll cut down the calories and sugar by a lot! I love light beer, so I'll nurse those all night, but yes the cals add up. One of my favorite mixed drinks is sweet tea vodka and soda water. On the rocks it is so good but in the name it's "sweet", so its sugary. If you don't like straight vodka or tequila or other type of alcohol with soda water, ask for a lime or lemon wedge and see if that helps the taste! Cheers!

Vodka crystal light packets and water

Gin and tonic! Tonic water has zero calories and gin has about 65 per ounce... so you could throw back a couple of those babies and not do too much damage to your diet.

NEW AND PISSED OFF

posted by mariesheppard on 7:53 am

this is my first day to join since i obviously cannot do this by myself.  I have been diagnosed with Hyperinsulinemia, which basically means a low-car, low-sugar diet...this is for someone who has drank a 6 pack of soda, candy, and whatever the hell i ever wanted for basically 25+ years...I tried myself, but found to start having many behaviors like a crack head, in my hiding and searching of sugar....and then when found and consumed, the guilt ensues. its seems to be a never ending battle that I feel very defeated and disguisted w/my self at this point.  I HAVE to do this..if I dont, I will end up like the rest of my family who have pretty much all been killed by diabetes, of which hyperinsulinemia tends to evolve into.  It's even harder that I am not over weight, I was in childhood through my early 20's but then it all came off by the time i was 25..ten years later here i am...flacid and gently killing myself with sugar and carbs...what do I do?  Could really use some encouragement and advice at this time please....b/c right now I just want to come out of my skin...

Hi, I'm new too but we have some similarites. I had gestational diabetes with my daughter four years ago. I have consistently tested just fine, but the warning that GD leads to diabetes for most women who don't get their act together inside of five years has scared the **** out of me. I lost more than the 5 percent body fat recomended to keep from developing diabetes but the big D is a huge motivator in doing everything I do.
Anyway I'd say that you're on the right track. You joined, you're asking for help. You are going to get a LOT of contradictory information. The best thing you can do is try to take everything with a grain of salt, read about every suggestion- don't just go off and try it. That will lead to defeat. The articles on this website on what you should be eating (really, you know what you should not eat.) all seem pretty informed. I'd focus more on what you can eat than what you can't, and getting involved in the community will help keep you on track. Good luck. :)
