12 Little Tips For Daily Life in 2008!!

posted by VoluptuousCeleste on 11:24 am

Here are just a few things I've picked up from the holistic health practitioners I've met and other healthy people or studies I've done. Hopefully you guys will find a couple of them helpful or useful to you!!

1. When showering, turn the water from very hot to very cold 6-10 times at some point within your shower. This causes the blood in your body to literally flush toxins from your internal organs. When you are cold, the blood rushes to your vital organs to keep them warm and alive, when you are hot, the blood rushes to the surface of the skin where it can more easily absorb oxygen. As you toggle back and forth between temperatures you both flush your organs and oxygenate them for optimum health!!

2. Switch to natural energy substances if you can get off energy drinks and coffee. The average coffee drinker that switches to green tea loses 5-15 lbs. You can also take things like raw thyroid if you think you have thyroid issues, yerba mate, bee pollen, soy lecithin and even some cayenne will give your metabolism a boost, not to mention the heart and health benefits.

3. Take B-12, both for weight loss and to keep your brain's synapses firing correctly to stabilize your moods and feel energized.

4. If you have a hard time sleeping at night, take chelated magnesium. Chelation of minerals helps them from clogging up your kidneys, liver and other areas where you may be likely to get "stones." (As a warning, only take at night, it makes you EXTREMELY tired and can be used as a muscle relaxer, also it works as a mild laxative)

5. Include polyunsaturated fats and oils into your diet so that you will keep the elasticity in your skin as well as shed weight easier by keeping your colon running (it's like lube for your car engine). The right kind of fat, burns fat. Suggestions are flax oil and olive oil.

6. Switch to distilled water. Try to avoid tap and mineral waters as these have a lot of minerals that will clog your kidneys, liver and other organs. Distilled water is the best utilized by your body and it even tastes better. Smart Water is a distilled water as is Vitamin Water by Glaceau and of course there are many other generic brands.

7. When taking multivitamins, try to find one that is organic and made from whole foods not minerals. Your body was created to easily recognize and absorb nutrients in REAL foods. All the nutrients needed can be found in these real food supplements. PreNatal vitamins also have a higher dose of some of these great nutrients. I personally take an organic PreNatal Whole Foods Vitamin Supplement.

8. Try to incorporate grapefruit into your diet because grapefruit has a ton of riboflavins which are those little things in your cells that make them "sticky" so that nutrients are actually better absorbed. Ever see on your prescription, "do not eat grapefruit with this medication?" Well that's because it's likely to make it up to 5x stronger!!!

9. If you are proned to breakouts, warts, boils, bleeding gums, canker sores or any other type of skin infections, try using Tea Tree Oil. It's one of the quickest for healing and is a great astringent. You can also put some on your toothbrush with your toothpaste to kill bacteria in your mouth. If you have bleeding gums or your teeth or mouth hurt, mix tee trea oil with water and gargle with it for 30 seconds, spit out and DO NOT SWALLOW. Try to wash your mouth out after to get rid of that taste.

10. Try to incorporate a lot of probiotics into your diet...There are a lot of options with live active yogurts and cheeses now available at regular grocery stores. You can also buy acidophilus capsules or liquid formulas (refridgerated only). These help enhance your immune system and keep the flora in your stomach and bowels healthy and sustained for proper digestion. It's one of my #1 recommendations for incorporating into your healthy lifesyle.

11. If you have ulcers, indigestion, acid reflux disease, or other stomach or bowel issues, try drinking 4 oz of pure organic chlorophyll at night (beware of GREEN TEETH), this helps your body immensely and seals up little holes in your colon and stomach. It will also help you get over nausea very quickly. (do not be alarmed by one of it's side effects - all waste will be dark green)

12. It's very difficult to get all your greens in one day and with the amount of carcinogens we are exposed to in our air, water and food, we can't afford not to get all the greens and the antioxidants they offer. To assure that your body gets PLENTY of greens for the day find an organic green powdered supplement to have in the mornings. Mix it with your favorite juice or even one of the green juices available by Odwalla, Naked or Trader Joes which have ingredients like chlorella, algae, barley grass and wheat grass (hard to find). They will give you sustained energy and you can know even if you're on the run and don't have time for some raw vegetables, that you got their benefits from your morning green juices. If you can JUICE your own vegetables EVEN BETTER!! Try to juice things like barley grass, wheat grass, kale, spinach, and thick leafy greens along with antioxidants like beets and vegetables like carrots. Be careful with celery, it will make you tired and Dandelion or Parsley can give you an almost "high intoxicating" sensation if you use too much, but they won't cause any damage if you're into that feeling. Haha

Okay, hopefully some of these tips are helpful to you guys. If you have any other tips, please share them on the comments. I'm always up for picking up some new tips or elaboration on the ones I've shared.

Thank you so much Celeste! Utterly brilliant tips! I am very interested in nutrition, but don't know an awful lot about it. More please! (Have you any idea why Green Tea aids weight loss?)

Thanks for the info. I just have a question about the B12. Do you know how much you should take? Can you take too much?

by VoluptuousCeleste on Jan 6, 2008 at 3:40 pm

Here is my research results on B-12 Dosage to answer your question Angie.

Vitamin B12 is necessary in only very small quantities the RDA is 2 micrograms. For oral vitamin B12, the recommended dosage in deficiency states is 2,000 micrograms daily for at least 1 month, followed by a daily intake of 1,000 micrograms. This dosage schedule is suitable for other clinical applications of vitamin B12 except high-dose therapy for MS. For vegetarians, a dosage of at least 100 micrograms per day is recommended. Methylcobalamin, the active form of vitamin B12, supplied in sublingual tablets is preferred over cyanocobalamin.

Safety Issues:
What is the health risk of too much vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 has a very low potential for toxicity. The Institute of Medicine states that "no adverse effects have been associated with excess vitamin B12 intake from food and supplements in healthy individuals." The Institute recommends that adults over 50 years of age get most of their vitamin B12 from supplements or fortified food because of the high incidence of impaired absorption of B12 from unfortified foods in this population.
