Weight Watchers not really working :( *crosspost

posted by jonahgavinmom on 8:17 am

I have been on Weight Watchers for over a year and only lost 12 lbs (not counting the 10 or so that i keep gaining and losing). I was eating healthfully before WW, so it wasn't a huge lifestyle change. It just made me more aware of every little bite i put in my mouth. I upped my work outs, right now i teach 3-6 yoga classes a week, one Body Combat (think Tai Bo on CRACK!) on Body Pump (weights) class and one spin class a week. So you would think with working out almost 9 times a week and watching what i eat logging everything on WW I would be losing lots! I have been tested  for Thyroid problems (my sister and grandma have them) and there was nothing wrong with me. I did have low vitamin D, which now i take in vitamin form. I have lost 4 dress sizes. I am trying not to get hung up on the scale. I can tell that i have gained muscle. When does the muscle take over and start getting rid of fat!?? I tried taking my measurements because people were saying I was probably losing inches, well in three months time, everything was the same or BIGGER except my calves! I eat 100% whole wheat if I do eat bread or pasta, I am eating fruits, veggies, lean protiens, greek yogurt, oatmeal with blueberries, (natural, no sugar!) i drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, hardly ever have alcohol...(like one light beer once a month!) I don't know what else to do! My patience is wearing thin. I am thinking of stopping WW because I can't afford it anyway. Thoughts??

I don't know what to tell you, it seems like you're better at this than I am!  All I can think of is something a lactose or gluten intolerance, I know those can keep you bloated?   Also, 4 dress sizes is nothing to be ignored, that's huge!

good for you!! you must have a ton of energy doing all of those classes.
sounds like you are doing everything right. sometimes our body adapts to a routine and doesnt benefit from what they already have done and are used too. i would defiantly start using my plate and forget the watch watchers. it is really expensive. try some new healthy foods and a different variety of what your used to. switch things up
but 4 dress sizes is amazing and you should be extremely proud!! that is a great accomplishment.

I would say ditch WW. You can use this website to track all your food and there is no sense in adding the stress of having to pay for something that you dont see working. Other than that, I have no idea why you are not losing a ton of weight, but I have the same problem, I have a very active lifestyle (culinary student, mom of three girls all under the age of 8 and i work out at least 4-5 times a week) and I eat right., (for the most part, I could easily forget about meat all together, but have a horrible sweet tooth)  I have been working to better my diet and work out more but I seem to gain and lose the same few pounds, and I really want to meet my first goal. So, if you figure out something that works, let me know. but until then, I would say just stop worrying about the scale and love what you do!!  :)  Happy people have edorphines, and endorphines help you lose weight, so be happy and get skinny!  ;)

4 Dress sizes is a huge achievement. You should be proud of that.
I have previously been a member of WW and when I first joined I learned a lot about food and portion sizes etc but when you have learnt all that you are paying a lot of money each week for someone to tell you what  you already know! Plus I got sick of all the marketing each week, new books and now even a new points system. So you have to buy everything all over again.

Weight Watchers never worked for me either and I think it is because I panicked at the thought of deprivation ... that I "can't" have foods that I love, which would lead to binges ... strictly psychological for me.  Now I am working with a wonderful trainer who not only kicks my butt at the gym, but guides me through food choices and texts me at least 6 times a day with encouragement and suggestions to keep me on track. I'm eating things I never thought of trying and loving it.   I don't have that panicky feeling with her that I did with Weight Watchers, not sure why, but I don't think your situation is unique.  Congratulations on the 4 dress sizes and on your level of fitness ... you are right not to concentrate on the scale ... if you are fit and healthy, that's what counts.
