If I eat the calories I gain by exercising, won't I just stay the same weight? Do you eat only the original calorie goal? Can you eat a little more when you've had a hard workout? Just some things I'm wondering about. I lost 15 pounds already by exercising everyday at the gym, but that is getting unsustainable. So I've cut back the number of hours I spend at the gym. I put a couple of pounds back on when I dropped to 4 days a week, so I thought tracking my food would be helpful. So far, so good; I've lost a pound in 2 days.
The concept behind exercise and diet is that the exercise helps to increase your matabolism. When you eat less, your matabolism tends to slow down. You can lose weight by just reducing the amount of calories you eat, but exercise is as much a benefit to your health as it is to help you lose weight. The loss of 1 pound in a day could easily be water weight. Ideally, you should weigh yourself only once a week because your weight can fluctuate on any given day depending on the amount of sodium or water consumed.
Use the suggested calorie amount given by the Daily Plate Calorie Goal. Then try to change your eating habits from one large meal 3 times a day to several small meals about every 3-4 hours. If you start feeling hungry before it is time to eat a snack, drink a glass of water, or have some celery or other vegetable handy to snack on. Limit the amount of carrots because they contain a lot of sugar. Try to work out 3-4 times a week and mix up cardio with some weight training and calisthenics to target specific body areas. It won't be long before you start to see some progress :-)
Heyy guys!
Hi, I like the title of this group. Who doesn't want to be cheered on? I've lost weight, but now I'm struggling to lose the last 15 pounds. I'm only 4'11" so 15 pounds makes a very big difference. My doctor will be surprised if I actually reach the goal he set for me, which is 115 pounds. So wish me luck. I think tracking my food will help a lot. It sure made a difference today. This time of year is especially difficult with all the goodies everywhere. Best wishes for everyone to have victory over the many temptations!
Welcome SlimmerPat!!
Positive attitude is Everything when it comes to losing weight, so instead of saying "... if I actually reach the goal..." say, ... "When I reach the goal.."!! You have already lost weight, so there is no reason why you shouldn't expect to lose the last 15 lbs P:-)
Tracking your food is a big step in that direction. Be true to yourself and record Everything you put in your mouth. You will succeed, I know it!!
today is bob and my 35th anniversary. i made a delicious pot roast in my crockpot and
had 2 great friends join us for dinner. it is now 8 pm and they have gone home.
lol
just wanted to share. hope everyone has been having a nice wkend.
Hi there guys.. Hows everyone doing? Ermm.. just popped in to say im going to start exercising this monday :D so good luck to you all
As thanksgiving approaches, we need to remember while we are allowed to induldge a little
and live and enjoy our families, we need to stay focused and not use the holiday as a free
pass for a free for all.
What are you going to change this year at the thanksgiving table? If you are hosting will
you create more of a healthy menu? Is there anything you are going to cut out? What is
your plan of a attack? How are you going to fully enjoy the day and meal without falling
off the wagon?
For me there will be two things.
My mom is hosting and luckly she is in the same boat as me. She's trying to shed the last bit of extra weight that she would like to lose so she is really good at lowering the fat. Cutting sugar out and using splenda. Instead of honey, she uses agave. So that is a pleasent swap in calories that I won't even blink at missing.
As far as myself. I am going to allow myself to eat every single thing that is made. HOWEVER, I won't be going back for seconds, I won't be putting huge heaping piles of food on my plate because we all know that feeling every year where we sit at the table after our meal feeling like we are going to burst or take a nap from our carb coma. I am certain I will go over my recommended daily calories because I fully plan on having a slice of pumpkin cheesecake. However, Last year I went over in calories by probably thousands! I ate all day and night. So disgusting. This year I want to limit my overage but still enjoy my day.
One day of a slight over calorie isn't going to derail your progress as long as you make it a one meal thing and not an all day gorge fest.
I am not going to drink my calories. No soda, limit my juice, etc. Water and skim milk for me. I also don't need butter on the roll or potatoes. I am not going to grab more marshmellows than sweet potatoes. And I am not going to eat the food just because it is there. I will stop when full.
Another great question! Well, instead of going to family, we will be going out to eat (may partner is going through chemo and doesn't feel like traveling), which is both good and bad. It's good because we won't have all those leftovers calling us, and bad because we probably won't have a lot of healty choices. I do want to have some traditional foods like mashed potatos and gravey, but I'm going to limit myself. Since we are going to a buffet type setup, I tend to take small portions and have a large salad as a starter (very little dressing). I will drink water, which is my drink of choice, and will allow myself a small piece of pumpkin pie - no whip cream as desert. I think I will be able to stick to my plan! Now if I could just stick to my plan about not giving into chocolate!!!
Hello and good morning I have just started using livestrong the last couple days and
really like it.
I have 40 lbs to go I lost 40 already, now I need encouragement for the last 40so lose,
{ due to the last 2 years of being pregnant, both girls
now I am done with that and time to get back down to my origonal weight. }
Hey all!
I started my livestrong routine just over a week ago. Not doing to bad. Have already
switched to Diet soda and only drink that about 1/3 of the amount I drank regular. Also,
not snacking on chips and candy at my desk is working well for me. I AM READY!! I
have about 30lbs to lose to be where I will be comfortable. Another 10 to be
WONDERFUL.
I am not only in it for the weight loss, I have a history of heart problems in my family
and as I am nearing my 40's(still 7 years to go) I really need to start taking better care
of myself.
When I first created this group almost 5 years ago it was hopping! We only had around 200
members back then (which was a huge number for such a small website at the time). We had
constant chatter from all of the members who were seeking to make a change. I found that
constant ability to log on at anytime and have something to read about someone achieving a
goal, or someone going through a tough time and needing inspiration, Uplifting. I needed
to be able to lend support as well as recieve it. THIS principle is what this group was
founded on.
Being each others Cheerleaders, Supporters and biggest advocates when people in our daily
life just didn't understand what we were dealing with. The constant comments and unabided
sabatoge by friends and family who were fit and didnt need to make a lifestyle change or
they were just content being unhealthy and were not ready to make the change themselves.
The comments like "oh just have one slice of that cake, it's not going to kill you" or "
You did so great this week, It's not going to ruin your diet if you go out for chinese
with me tonight" Oh have another cocktail, it's friday you deserve it".
First thing, it's NOT a diet. It';s a lifestyle change. It's a way of living! That is why
so many of us have been here for the 5 years or keep coming back because we know it works.
Holding yourself accountable for what you are putting into your body, seeing it in front
of your own eyes in black and white is the eye opener you and I need to commit to those
changes. It works! Of course life is a slippery slope and sometimes we slide a little
sometimes we climb or sometimes we get stuck in the middle. BUT that is the good thing
about this group, we are here to help dust you off and put you back on top.
Granted I am here because I slide all the way back down that slope but only after losing
80lbs, keeping it off and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for quite a long time. Then I
got pregnant and got lazy. I figured eh this is my last chance at pregnancy, let me enjoy
it. I ended up on bedrest half way through my pregnancy and becoming critically ill. I
gained those 80 pounds back., After I had my daughter I didnt really lose the pregnancy
weight. until I realized I WAS READY. You cant make changes until YOU are ready to face
them head on. With the support of my mom, I lost 50lbs all while training for a half
marathon in September. Having a big goal like that totally helped keep me motivated. Then
The race came and went and I stopped running and watching my food choices. I gained back
14 pounds since then ON TOP of the 30 I still needed to lose. So here I am 44 pounds in
the hole still. BUt I am ready to get back on it and complete this journey again.
Come out of the wood work. What is the good in joining a group that you are sitting on the
sidelines watching? Jump into the race, join the journey actively. Did you know that the
active participant in groups like this on average lose 25%-50% more weight and KEEP it
off versus the person sitting on the sidelines watching? Come out and introduce
yourself. Let us know where you want to be, how you are doing it and HOW can WE support
you and help you.
THe question for today is:
Name One thing about your habits that you would like to change?
My answer:
I tend to not eat most of the day out of sheer laziness or being busy then at night when all is settled in the house, the baby is in bed. I SCAVANGE for food. What can I eat for dinner? what can I snack on while watching a movie or doing something crafty? I need to get better about eating through out the day
Chocolate! I have been able to change my eating habits, and am doing well with exercise, but I just can't let go of that chocolate! Especially after lunch with a cup of coffee. It also tends to creep up on me in the evenings if I'm sitting watching TV. I try to not have chocolate in the house but I do have the fat free Jello pudding cups that help to reduce the cravings. Unfortuately, I can't give it up completley -- yet!!
staying w/healthier choices and stop sabortaging myself and letting illness or what ever make me go off track. i went to the dr today and after i am well, i am going to see a dietician. i want to try low carb diet but really is out of my knowlege of diets. don't want to do something wrong and mess myself up. i am on the way to getting over this illness, hopefully it will be totally gone and then i can make that appt. oh chips and other salty snacks and other times ice cream are my downfalls. i love the fat free choc jello pudding cups. bob got the vanilla and i don't like those. other times its cookies. guess i have more than one, huh? lol
mandy that was a great blog! again big welcome back!
Hi mandee... I like your question alot.. We are all trying to loose weight and everyone has their habits that they cant give up :( thats the biggest problem in loosing weight... (well... for me atleast)
As you know im knew here. I think i really need support to get me going.. And COMPANY! I need someone who is going through the same stuff i am . someone who understands your feelings
I'm new here! but i want to from now on turn over a new leaf
My answer:
ok.. so i start to change my ways of eating and exercising .. 1 day 2 days maybe 3 days ( it never lasts lonnnger!! O: ) why?? well, you see i start off perfect! but if something happens unnormal in my life like say family problems or anything of the sort.. i get upset and the only comfort i have is food.i head straight to food ..
ok another problem im suffering is that when i DO actually cheat and eat something im not supposed to i go on eating.. its not like "ok i ate that thing - its only once its not a problem STOP"
thats not how it is .. when i eat something bad i keep on eating bad stuff one after another .... thinking like "ok whats the difference between one creamy muffin and two big creamy muffins.. oh i'll start tomorrow eating healthy.. " BUT when tomorrow comes i say tomorrow again ...
its so harrrrrrd (im sure you all know what i mean )
ha! I like this question, and honesty is the only way to success!!
My most miserable habit, is my drinking problemo, I love to have a beer or two or three... and then all those awesome eating decisions, and exercise I've done for the day go straight down the drain. I know if I conquer this one miserable habit (addiction) it would lead to success in so many other areas of my life. I fight the urge to have a drink every night, and some nights I don't have any, some nights I'll just have one, but its those nights that are too frequent, that I just have too many and it sets me back. It effects my mood, my energy level, my calorie intake, my metabolism etc. yeah.
Thats tough James, I don't drink alcohol but I have the same addiction but with food. I love food. I love to eat, crunch, chew, taste!!!!!!!!!! Healthy foods are great but damn there is nothing more addictive than fast food, fatting food, sweets. We all have our addictions, as different as they may be. Can you try to switch say if tonight you have 4 beers can you alternate 2 regular and 2 o'douls? and slowly work your way to just alcohol free? Good luck, that's a big step in just vocalizing that you have this to deal with. You are aware of it so then you can conquer it, with difficulty at first im sure but acknowledging it is half the battle and you already did that.
My worst habits are eating when bored and eating mindlessly, especially when watching TV or on the computer.
I am kicked in gear again after I found out this week that I am pre-diabetic, metabolic syndrome, borderline high BP, elevated lipids, all a nice recipe for my family history of a heart attack and stroke. The pre-diabetic thing is what really floored me, we don't have diabetes in my recent generations but even a nurse can be in denial about their body, habits, and genetics. Now on metformin, fish oil and maybe in the future a statin cholestrol lowering med.
On my 2nd day of tracking and trying in general to be on a vegetarian diet and trying to eat a small "meal" every 3 hours and that seems to be keeping me from getting the "hungries".
I agree Mandy, I think I do have an addiction to the taste and texture of foods. I LOVE crunchy things.
I am trying to make MINDFUL choices of eating and tracking religiously, that has always kept me honest in the past.
Nice to come back and see old faces and meet new!
Hi all,
The Fall Challenge has only a couple of weeks left (for those who are wondering) I can
run another Challenge for December & January, unless someone else is interested in
running one. Info to follow, closer to Dec.
Thanks,
Carolyn
Hi Rgorga,
Welcome!! It's really easy and addictive once you get the swing of things. It's super simple. Go to your dashboard (see your name on the top right...cursor over it and a list comes up.)
Simply put in your current weight, your goal weight and the number of pounds you would like to lose a week. No more than 2lbs because anything higher than that is deemed unhealthy so LiveStrong doesn't allow for that. However if you do lose more then that is great too. Sometimes we just have a big week.
Then if you go to your plate....You will see that you have a calorie goal for the day. For myself for example, I want to lose 2 pounds a week. At my current weight that brings me to 1200 calories a day. What that means is, I can (and should) eat 1200 calories a day to achieve my weight loss goal of 2 lbs a week. That is without exercise. With exercise, there is an area under Fitness where you can log in your activities for the day such as a walk, bike ride etc. Livestrong will calculate the calories you burned and deduct those from your plate.
Example: I ate 1200 today.
I ran 2 miles and burned 340 calories.
My plate will now read that I have a NET of 860 calories.
Your options are to leave it as it and take those calories burned and let your body use it towards weight loss (3,000 calories burned or cut back on per week equals 1lb lost). OR you can use those extra 340 calories to have a little snack or a treat if you are going out to dinner or a movie,, party etc.
NOW the SUPER EASY PART, ALL you have to do is go to your plate, type into the Search bar on your plate the food you ate. Make sure it is the right serving size you ate and Click " I ATE THIS".,....BAM it's on your plate and Livestrong does the math for you. IT's PURE genius!
Example, I ate Mcdonald's today. I went to my plate, typed in Mcdonalds medium fry..BAM it's on my plate! Easy peasy extra cheesy!
If you track daily and track EVERYTHING (hold your self accountable) It is fool proof and works.
I started here 5 years ago almost before Livestrong even existed.I lost 80 lbs in less than a year using ONLY this website. No fad diets, no pills, no crazy routines and restrictions. Simply holding myself accountable for what I was eating.
I am back now after having a baby and going through a year deployment where my husband was in Afghanistan. I got lazy and never lost my baby weight (she just turned 2 last week). I have lost 36 pounds so far but I still have 40 to go.
You can do this.. You will do this, You will be successful. Stick around.
Oh why thanks a lot for the warm welcome mandy :) i really want to get in to shape.. and looking forward to joining you guys
if you don't mind i have a few questions being a newbie ..
what do you mean by "My plate will now read that I have a NET of 860 calories." sorry mustn't have payed much attention in my math classes :P :P
also because i walk on the treadmill and do aerobics ... i looked for treadmill in the fitness library and found
example - TREADMILL - 10% INCLINE @ 10 MPH
well i didnt know how to calculate that - because all i know in the treadmill is fat burn, cardio interval and endurance
so my point is i don't know how to calculate how many mph i ran
ok one last thing is do i write everyday or only one in a while and where do i write? in this group or somewhere else?
I'm sorry for too many questions but i really need to get some stuff straight before i start :)
Thanks a lot for you help
When looking for exercise in the fitness section try typing in walking/jogging/running depending on what it is you are doing. Then from there select the speed you set your treadmill to .
As far as writing, You can post on here a million times a day if you want. It's entirely up to you. You can post on your plate as well for the day just write a note on top about how things went etc.
As far as the calories questions:
If you eat 1200 cals, burn 340 with exercise the program subtracts what you Burned from the calories on your plate.
ATE TODAY : 1200
BURNED with Exercise: 340
Subtract-----------------------------------------
total becomes 860 calories accounted for today.
Lord Have mercy it's been forever and a day since I have been here alas it is that time in
my life again where I need to shed some poundage!! How are yall??? What's everyone up to?
AND WHEN is the next challange!
xoxoxoxo Mandee
hi mandy and welcome back oh great leader. lol
hipmamac is the person running the present challenge. you can check w/her about joining this one we are in.
i'm new to this group and new to all this exercising. what are the challenge things? and how do you stay so motivated?
Thanks and Hello my friend,
I can wait until the next challenge. I see this one is 8 weeks underway already. I need to get back into logging and stuff anyway. Ya know accountability.....I have learned my lesson. You just can't ever leave here.. lol
Welcome Junior,
we have been running weight loss challenges for at least 4 years now. It's mainly just friend competition to help keep motivated with your progress. Not just weight loss but also keeping active through some form of exercise, increasing your water intake since it is so vital to healthy living. They run for anywhere from 6-12 weeks depending on how the ladies are doing them now.
You start the challenge by weighing in your starting weight for that challenge, then weekly weigh in to the challenge organizer, He/She will then calculate weight loss percentage so that it is fair and not just by pounds lost. Each week there is an overall weekly leader but then at the end of the challenge there is one grand bragging rights winner.
These challenges work very well! In this group when I first put this group together almost 5 years ago, we had a small group of 200. THe challenges would have just a dozen people in them and collectively we had lost over 1,000 pounds in the first year of challenges...
AMAZING!
Stick around, tell your friends. It;s a great place to be
we did change a little of the challenge. no more kicking out if miss a few wks. things just seem to come up. another thing that helps is to have a friend that you can msg w/for support. also either open your daily log so others can praise on how well ur doing, or make suggestions to help. you can either have anyone check it or have one person. we also sometimes do partner challenges. if you want you can set a goal for water intake goal, exercise goal or wt loss. i am only doing wt loss this time. haven't been logging food, but i have been sick for a month w/pneumonia and i am lucky just to come on sometimes.
if you have any other questions, feel free to post and someone will answer. :) welcome ... forgot to say that.
thanks for your help :) i'm looking forward to reaching my goal! and one more question where do you weigh in and such?
Mandee!!!! What a coincidence that iIdecided to start tracking again today! I'm ready for a challenge too. I am back because I have learned that I am unfortunately pre-diabetic (insulin resistance) and have been shocked into action. I have about 70 pounds to lose which is very intimidating but need to take it a day at a time and keep tracking. Great to see old faces I know and meet new ones too :-)
Colleen aka Hwkncat
HI!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you? I hate to say glad to see you because well who really wants to need to make changes but I am so glad that I get to go through this again with some of the same origional ladies and some fresh new faces!!
Heck we did this before, we can totally do this again! So sorry to hear about the pre-diabetes. That is definately something to scare you into good health. My parents are diabetic as are many other members of my family so I know first hand the affects it has on a person. I hope and pray I never have to endure that kind of suffering.
I had a baby girl 2 years and a week ago today! She is amazing but I gained 80lbs in pregnancy and was so super lazy just enjoying her that I fell back into old habits. I've lost 50lbs this year but gained back 14 recently. Time to get back on the wagon permenately.
Good luck!! It does seem like a daunting feat but we can do it!! Oh and if you have Facebook, hit me up! Im there all time since it goes to my phone so we can totally motivate each other and check in more frequently than I am able to here. Luckily, Livestrong has the Iphone app so I can track easily but logging on to get to the group is only going to be a nightly thing.
xoxoxo Nice to see friendly faces who have been there and know this works!
Mandee
I got my semi-annual blood test results back yesterday. For the first time in close to
20 years my cholorestrol is below 200, 185 to be exact!!! And all my other numbers
were within the normal range :-)
WooHoo!!!!
Exercise and change in eating habits has paid off! I think I'll keep it going
Hello, I am new to this site and blog. I am one of those yo-yo dieters. October 2010 I was going to a local gym 3 times a week and weighed in at 150. I felt good looked good. So what did I do. Stopped. Now I am back to my overweight self, 175, ugh. So I am back on! Using this website is extreamly useful. The local gym has closed, so I am watching my calorie intake and walk/jog daily. Well I hope I can daily. I am on day 3. Yesterday I exceeded my calories, but today is a new day. Go Diet Go!!
Hi all, I'm looking for a group to support and be supported by in getting back on track with healthy diet and fitness--a place to check in with daily or even a few times per day when it's especially difficult. Not sure if this is the right group or not, but thought I'd check it out and see.
found out yesterday i have pneumonia. no wonder i am so sick. and i even got the
pneumonia shot. oh well, different one. knew that i could get a differrent
strain. daughter and son in law had it. daughter was hospitalized for a wkend.
love my family but they really don't have to share!!!
i have both granddaughters here last night and today. 6 yr old stayed home to be w/the
5 yr old, who had teacher's workshop and day off, and i am not up to playing w/her.
why did i think it would be smooth sailing??? many disagreements and hubby was home
then had them write up a contract and that was brought out a few times. but hopefully
this lull in that will last a long time. haha yeah right.
anyway just wanted to let u all know.
Deb,
So sorry you are under the weather. Tell those "Other People" in your house that they can fend for themselves for a couple days. You need to rest! ;-)
Hope you feel better soon!!!
can't one is 5 and the other is 6 lol. we just made an apple pie. used truvia and some sugar. kai, the 5 yr old didn't wait for me to give instructions on to measure out the cin. etc and well, it is now poured in as is. since she did it, i did the rest the same way. we tasted the mixture and it was good.
kai will be going home tonight but jae's 11 yr old brother will be here. rest??? hmmmm w/them ? yah ok. lol hubby is working so no help there. i will just git thru it.
And I have to say...PMS and Halloween candy in the same week is just evil!! LOL
Hello group,
I have been missing from the site for about 2 weeks, but don't think I was slackin!
I have been working out, but had no time to post or chart it. I'm actually down 5 more
lbs and I feel great. One thing is I don't see it in my look, but my numbers keep
falling! I just need some suggestions on how to burn belly fat...I'm soooo over this
stomach! Well thats my update...I'm out of the 190's and I'm now striving for
180's...etc.
Candigirl
Hi I just joined livestrong.com today and found this group. I would like to introduce myself and say I am eager to become healthy. My name is Andy, and I am looking to lose about 50 pounds. I look forward to learning more about the tools and resources here. -Andy.
Hey Andy!
Happy to have you here. I'm kind of new to this also and have already found that the LIVESTRONG community is just so...encouraging. They're all supportive and sweet and extremely caring! So, I've decided to contribute my encouragement, support, and care into the LIVESTRONG community as much as they have. With that said, welcome. =]
Well I am trying TRYING TRYING and for sure it is not easy. But what I think is the hardest part is how alone I feel. I have no real life role models who have lost and kept off any substanial weight. My friends are not trying to lose weight and costantly give me "advice" but then invite me to dinner or eat awful things at work and offer me some. My parents so want me to lose weight but their response is always "just think of where you will be in a year." A year are you kidding me? I'm trying to make it through today, this meal, this workout, this time I pass the bowl of Hallaween candy without just popping one in my mouth. I can't think a year out right now. I am teetering between 20 and 25 lbs weight loss taking 5lbs incraments is great for me and on the scale I see the changes and that is great but there has been no noticable change in my appearence so there is no encouragement outside of the scale and the acomplishment I feel at the end of a work out. How do you get past the trudging along by yourself mentality that I have adapted? Do you have alot of encouragement in your life? If not how do you encourage yourself?
I have been fight with trying to loss 40 pounds, might loss 10 then I get stuck. Hate it, hate it.... I read your words and it is totally me when I am down on myself. But been on Live Strong and reading and learning for everyones ups and downs. I find just one person that said the right thing and gave me the courage to continue and want to keep on trying. I have changed my attitude for the better, I wake up in the morning and I know I am going to have a great day. Watch what I eat, keep busy, focus and making no excused anymore about not going to the gym.
Don't give up, start encouraging yourself!!
a long time ago when i first tried to diet, my husband was supportive in words, but, he would get yummy snacks when we were out and i felt like i was losing out if i didn't have them, and i felt like i had to eat as much as he did cos it wasn't fair, or at home he would ask if i wanted ice cream, i would say a little,he would bring me a huge bowl w/m &m's on the top. finally i had to just stand my ground and do what was right. it is a never ending thing, but you can do it. if they serve food that u feel is not good for u to eat, but u really want some, take a 1/4 c of it. eat it slow or even a bite or 2. i also found eating w/a smaller plate and spoon helped me. if you just don't want it, let them know, just say ur not hungry for it. or tell them they need to help u by not serving u it. but really, wt watchers and other diets say u can have anything just in moderation. another thing i did when i went to wt watchers and was very successful, on weigh day, after weighing in, we would go out to eat and have what we wanted. some that works for and it did for my friends and myself. we didn't feel deprived that way. others feel they have to wait until they can control themselves better. i am not able to exercise much because of physical ailments which makes it harder now for me, but i am trying. life throws things at us and it is good to pick someone on here or a few on here that can be ur buddy. have ur food log open so others can give u pats when u choose well, or advice when u need it. it really does help. i msg w/one on here daily, and when i am not following well, or things are going really stressful, i can write her and she helps so much. (thank you april) anyway don't feel discouraged! you can do it!!!
one other thing, you are doing right by taking it in small steps w/atainable goals. a yr is too hard to thing about. do what u can day to day, meal to meal. good luck!
Hi Tuesday,
I agree with all the advice given above. It is immensily important to set goals that are attainable, like sticking to your food or exercise plan for one week, then moving into the next week with the same goal. Setting goals that aren't attainable will only add to your frustration.
One way to add a positive spin on things is to tell your friends and family how well you have done that day, week or even hour. Tell them of the little triumphs like walking past the candy dish without taking any. Let them know that you really want to continue to lose weight and keep on your food plan. And, don't forget to pat yourself on the back with you do well. The more you maintain a positive attitude, the easier it will be and the more others praise you.
Sometimes it's the small things that count. Don't worry so much about your appearence when the scale is telling you that you have lost a pound. Be happy that you lost that pound! Others will notice a difference long before you will. It will show in your face, your arms, legs, and eventually your waist. You might notice your clothes fitting just a little bit loser, then a little more.
We don't gain weight over night. It is a long slow process that accumulates on our hips, thighs and stomach and it is a long slow process to take it off. During that time, stay positive! Know that YOU Can Be Successful and we are all here to help you!!
I packed my workout clothes this morning and made no excused for me not go to the gym. Told my husband, you pick you our daughter from school, make sure she eats, does her homework. After work, I headed straight to the gym with NO EXCUSES! Worked out for 1 1/2 hours, worked on weighs first then took a spin class. I FEEL GREAT! Had dinner and did some house cleaning after dinner, I am just full of energy right now. lol....
Well once again I got off the wagon with the weight loss for a couple of months. I cant seem to stay on track with my goal to be healthier and more fit , so I definately need encouragement. I weigh 180 and my goal is to lose 30 to 40 lbs. I feel ashamed that I let myself go like this and it makes me feel worse to visit my aunts, uncles, and mom since everybody is losing weight and staying on track and I still being fat. I need any advise from anybody and encouragement from anybody. I am in school for nursing and have a 4 yr old and husband to spend time with so my biggest problem is to find the time and motivation to workout. I am ashamed to say that I got a Y membership more than a month ago and havent been yet. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
dont worry about that you were off the wagon! im excited that you are back and ready to work! YOU can do it! I know what it is like to work and school and have a busy schedule so just focus more on eating healthy meals and then if you can sneak a work out in here and there then AWESOME! but you can do it! just focus on one pound at a time :))
i read a good quote today "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels' lol
Sticking to a program can be hard, but you can do it! If you miss for a day or two, or even a month or two, the most important thing is to get back in the game and pickup where you left off. Remind yourself that you are doing this for YOU.
Children, husbands and school can be very demanding but it can be done. Make a schedule for yourself. Get up a half hour earlier to exercise. Keep track of what you do and how you feel. Park as far away from the store/school door as possible to force yourself to walk more. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. And, most important, watch what you eat. Keep a record of everything you put in your mouth. If you get the munchies, go for carrots, celery, fruit, anything other than the salty/sweet things we really want to put in our mouths ;-)
You have a goal so that's a big start. Just keep thinking how much better you will look and feel if you stick to your program! It's a matter of putting one foot in front of the other, then keep it going. YOU CAN DO IT!!
Happy Friday everyone! Hope you all have a Great weekend. Remember to exercise, drink
plenty of water & monitor what you eat.
I know each and every one of you will be successful in your endevour to lose weight :-)
Only You control your destiny, so be honest to yourself!!
Hello everyone!
New to the group and I hope to have a lot of feed back and I will be there for you too!
I want to stop been so down on myself and start Cheering myself on!!!! So here
goes............... Hurray for me!!! I am going to restart my diet again and start
exercising!!!
Welcome! I tend to get down on myself too, so here's what I try to remember: if your friend messed up on her diet, you wouldn't tell her that she failed and she's always going to be heavy (like you might tell yourself)...right? You would tell her that tomorrow is a new day and she can do this! So that's what you should say to yourself; be your own friend! Hurray for you!!!
Hey everyone. I just joined this group because I REALLY need a place to go to keep motivated! My husband is in the Army and deployed for a year. He is getting in shape and lost weight quickly, while I am depressed and eating more :( I really don't want to gain while he is gone and have him come home to me being big lol. So he comes home on leave in January and I want to lose 20 pounds by then! I know I can do it I just need to stop using food to comfort myself when I miss him the most.
I will post this week's on Sunday or Monday...just waiting for a couple more emails
Here you go Ladies! The best way to burn calories :-))

Hey guys,
so i really feel like a big loser. I have knee pain and random joint pain as well as
stress/depression related stuff. I try to get on a work out plan and i always back out. I
can only do like 20 minutes on the elliptical and it pretty much kills me. I feel like
sometimes the simpliest things wear me out. I don't mind walking, like 3 miles walks but i
hate machines. I just don't know what to do.. maybe i should learn to love myself as i am.
I'm curvy and probably a womens size 12.

Hi! Don't ever feel like a loser! you did 20 minutes and that is better than doing nothing..
I have two painfull bulging disks on my back and my doc said work around your pain I also can only do 20 on the treadmill. So keep it up and just think of how good you will feel when you are a small dress size!!!
I felt exactly like you did this morning. lol.... (sorry) didn't mean to laugh. I get into my stress/depression modes too and I can't seem to lose the weight because I tend to eat when I am down. But I am still trying... So don't give up, don't feel like a loser and whatever exercise you do or little of it is better than none. This morning after I felt all yucky...I started reading peoples postings good and bad and made me feel that I am not the only one with problems and I feel encourage reading about peoples success stories. I went for a 20 minute walk during my lunch and was so glad I did!
