This is a fun group who loves cycling and likes to discuss the following. Training tips, locations, biking educate, races, P/R, and most of all encouragement for new riders.
So, earlier this year, I had been kinda complaining how there weren't a whole lot of races, but it seems like there's another TT or crit added every time I look at the racing calendar! Norfolk, which is about 2 hours Northwest of me, is having a TT or crit every other Tuesday, which also happens to be my day off!!! I haven't totalled everything yet, but I think I'm gonna participate in about 7-8 scored events and probably 4-5 of the unscored races. Perhaps there might be even more!
I've only been riding for about 3 years, but it does seem that there are more rides available-- even after what is typically considered the "riding season" here in Houston. Great for me, as I love 85+ degrees, no wind, high pressure in control (I must have been a snake for those who believe in reincarnation). That's wonderful that you have that many opps for scored events in your area! And Hurray for your side on the timing of the rides! Its like your were considered in the decisions! YAY!!
Usually March-October is our riding season, although winer has been lingering, which happened last year as well. We had snow yesterday and it should be about 60 degrees on Friday. Unlike last year, I have the Cycleops trainer for the days I don't want to be outdoors. The weather isn't favorable, but it keeps the population reasonable.
I was bumming earlier this year because it looked like there was a total of 4 races....and that was it. I was especially frustrated that I have been building a somewhat pricy TT bike and there was only one scheduled TT. Now there are the 8 races, along with the unofficial races. Now I'm thinking I'll probably be involved in about a dozen races.
I'll still have the Tour de Cure and Corporate Cycling Challenge, as well as the Platte River Team Triathlon, and Beer and Bagel 5k run.
