Running at the Trail

posted by sugarfree777 on 9:25 pm

Set my ipod for 5K and set out running at the trail.  Having issues with my left shin feeling painful when running.  At the halfway point I turned around and ran back to the start.  Completed it in 30'55".  6.08 min/km.  I do notice improvements running on the inclines where I used to have to walk or slowly jog and now I'm running them.  Iced my shin for about an hour after the run.  Not sure what else I can do for it.  Have a great day tomorrow!

That happens to me too when I'm not used to running on pavement (instead of a cushy treadmill :)  There is a yoga move for that if you have a yoga mat, and even if you don't, just roll up a throw blanket to use in it's place.
kneel on the floor, tuck the blanket or mat as close to your knees as you can get, and then kneel down on the mat.  It relieves tension in your shins and calves!  Just sit like that for about 30 seconds if you can stand it, or work up to it over and over.  I also take my thumbs and rub them down the sides of the hurting parts...that really helps too.  I hope you feel better!!

Wow - that is one fast 5k!  Good work!  I really envy you runners.  I just need to put my head down and GO but I seem to fall (or jump) off the wagon just when I'm about to break out of jogging.  Good luck with the shin pain.  Take care.

Hey, sugar...that was a great trail run--but sorry to hear that your shins are causing you problems.  Ugh.  Hope it feels better!
