Suggestions

What I am about to post is heart wrenching (at least to me).  I do not know this person and this is NOT MY DOG.  This was posted on one of my yahoo groups.  I can't get it out of my head, it's haunting me.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on any animal help groups that might assist?  Our local animal shelter would euthanize this dog so I dont know where to turn.  I feel like I should do SOMETHING since I did not help that Rottweiler a few days ago and can't get that out of my head either.  I've driven around that area and cannot find him which makes me sad.   I'm SOOO mad at the owner and feel so bad for the dog...But I am not in a financial position to help, nor would I want to bring him into my home and risk putting Hershey at risk.  I placed an ad at "wishuponahero" so maybe I can get some assistance there but I doubt it. Anyway, here is the ad that was posted on my yahoo group...let me know what your feelings are.

I am writing to you softies, Our dog, Chino, is a sweet male dog (approx. 7 years old) who looks like a black lab. He is 1/2 Golden Retriever and 1/2 Helenic (sp?) Hound. He has been neutered and has a sweet disposition. This is the thing... we are never home and he needs company. Not a problem. We know someone would be glad to have him as part of their family. But up to this point, I haven't tried to find him a home because he has heart worms and I was hoping to treat him before we tried to find him a home. Unfortunately, the cost to treat is about $800 and we just can't afford this right now. (He is asymptomatic, meaning he is not acting sick at all and hasn't for months. He eats well etc.) But the longer he sits out in our yard, the sadder I feel because I don't want to put him down but he doesn't have much of a future alive either. He needs a loving home with a family that can afford to have him treated. Please let me know if that description fits your family. There's got to be hope for him somewhere...Jennifer

ouch that is an expensive treatment. Do you think you could hold some sort of fundraiser to get him the treatment? Unfortunately i am not in the position to be of any help but i will be praying for him.
(ps What state is he in?)

and thanks, Becks...I will forward these links to this person.  I hope she cares enough to at least look into them.

most humane societies will treat animals at a greatly reduced cost, I would go there

you have to be careful in how you treat heartworm... he maybe better of going to a home where there are no other dogs he can infect and living his life out to the fullest. Heart worm can be treatable, but in doing so you can actually kill the dog. As the larvae and worms die... they act as clogs in the vessels and so essentially the dogs body gets blood vessels that are clogged and it could be a vessel in the brain, lung, kidney etc. causing those organs to die... you have to weight the risks... at 7 i would be happier to find him a home and let him live happy and comfy for awhile....
