Last Thanksgiving my mom put a small table in our dining room to hold all the pies so she wouldn't have to get up again when it was time for dessert. She did this before we even sat down to eat. As we were bringing the rest of the food to the table we found gunner with his paws perched up on the dessert table helping himself to 1/2 an apple pie. You think we would have learned from this, but no. This year, my dad used this same small table to hold the turkey after the was done carving what we needed for dinner. I look over when the meal is almost done and there's Scout helping himself to the rear end of the turkey! Had I not caught him i'm pretty sure he would have managed to get the whole bird off the table and go to town. Even though the little table was only a foot away from my dad, no one noticed him trying to get to the turkey. Maybe we had too much wine...
Hershey rarely ever steals food anymore, but Hannah? omg. She is the biggest food thief ever. She did get away with some turkey off the platter after everyone had served themselves. and she tried like CRAZY to get to everything else too.
My dog is terrible about trying to get food if no one is arond. But if someone is in the room with him, he won't bother it. He'll just sit there with those sad puppy eyes begging for food. Which is how he walked away with almost a pound of turkey on Thanksgiving. Poor kiddo wouldn't touch his food dish the next day. Think he was in as much of a food hangover as we were!
Well, no doggies stealing food on Thanksgiving Day in our household, but only because we closed them out of the dining room during dinner. My daughter's 1 year old beagle mix is a little thief and I know my Samson is capable of that too when we aren't around. It was pathetic though, since we have glass doors we could see them—and hear them— and you'd think they were the most neglected dogs in the world by the way they were acting. Pictures are on my daughter's camera otherwise I'd show you.
