This is a group for all those out there suffering from Fibromyalgia and/or Chronic fatigue syndrome and know how hard it can be to lose with these conditions
A year ago my doc said 95% sure you have fibrmyalgia. He ran tests and all came back
clear of rheumatoid arthritis and normal thyroid. But the pain in my muscles were hyper
sensitive in my legs, arms, sides, rib cage area. the spasms were shaped like green beans
under the surface and hurt like holy heck if barely touched sending me into tears. I
suffered with this for two years before going to a dr. I started accupuncture a year ago
and seemed to be the only thing that helped.
Now the green bean spasms are gone, and my accupuncturist mentioned food sensitivities
causing the chronic pain in my hips and low back and could be a cause of spasms. SO I
quit eating bread, enriched flour and sugary foods. Most spasms are gone by my nerves are
hyper sensitive to the touch in my legs , ribs back still, just no bean shaped spasms..
Is this what you all suffer from too? Am I misdiagnosed or do I indeed have FMS?
Brenda
I'm not sure what green bean spasms are, but if you think you may have a food allergy, you can ask your primary care physician to test you for it.
The painful areas you mention do sound familiar (the trigger points for FM)... Did you go to a Rheumatologist?
How did you ever survive 2 years with such pain? Are you on any meds?
talk soon
I beleive food sensitivities & fibro can go hand & hand. Most people I know with fibro have a food sensitivities. The question is which came first. Did the food sensitivity cause the fibro to rear it's ugly head or did the fibro make you more sensitive to the foods?
There are a lot of people who have fibro plus a lot of other things. I think you probably do still have fibro but avoiding some foods lessens your symptoms.
Did your doc do a trigger point test? Thats pretty much a fool proof way to diagnose fibro.
The doc did the trigger point check after suffering for two years when I could not get out of the chair and my kids would help me get dressed. It was awful. I am now on cyclobenzaprine to sleeep and 600 mg ibuprofen two to three times a day.
Chryssy when you asked about the string bean spasms. What I meant was they are shaped like a green bean, or a slug under the surface of the skin sometimes the spasms are three inches to four inches long and so sensitive that if lightly touched send me to tears and the pain radiates out into the surrounding tissue.
I had a spasm kick in yesterday bowling with my family. I had to quit playing, too much too soon on my muscles or something. After the spasm settled, the right side of my rib cage felt like I was hit with a bat. The spasm was 1/2 inch wide and about 5 inches long.. and soooo painful.
Needless to say that much pain can ruin the fun in the energy of having a good day with the family.
The food sensitivities were discovered this spring, two years after suffering. I now do not eat bread, or enriched flour products. If I do, they seem to build up in my joints and make my nerves hyper sensitive. IS this fibro or food sensitivities? Now that I am 40, I have developed allergies to over ripe cantaloupe, avocadoes, and raw potatoes. Is that weird or what?
NOw that enriched flour has been added, my accupuncturist said red meat can trigger responses too. ANyone else find food causing them grief with the spasms and nerve sensitivies in their bodies.... Please tell me I am not some crazy lady. :(
I find that some foods like potatoes make my aches & pains worse. They say that those with fibro should avoid all nightshade veggies. Onions, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes ect. I have found that buying organic and eating them raw or lightly sauteed instead of cooked makes them more tolerable. Here is a site on them: http://www.deliciousorganics.com/Controversies/nightshade.htm
I beleive that most foods when cooked go through a composition change that harms the nutrients and on some cases causes them to become toxic. A good example is olive oil. If it is heated to high temps it changes from being a healthy fat to becoming toxic. If you look on the label of most oils it will tell you how much heat it can take. Those of us with fibro are more sensitive to this stuff than others and it can have very adverse affects on us.
You are not a crazy lady! Your pains are real, weather brought on by food sensitivities or something else. I would start keeping a food journal and removing a food for 2 weeks then slowly reintroducing it or try switching to an organic variety to see if that makes your symptoms subside.
Good luck & take care.
Have you done much research? Try looking into...
My symptoms are not really what your symptoms...
