This is a group for all those out there suffering from Fibromyalgia and/or Chronic fatigue syndrome and know how hard it can be to lose with these conditions
Hi everyone! I'm new to TDP, but unfortunately not to Fibro =/ My mom also has Fibro, and I've been suffering noticeably for about 4 years now. I'm 21, so I'm fairly young to be dealing with Fibro, but I'm also very active, so I have good and bad spells. I'm working on my Master's as well as working full-time in Marketing, so I don't have much time for feeling crappy (or at least not for acknowledging it!); I found out last week that I have Mono, which is probably one of the worst things to be paired with FMS. Other than the lack of appetite (helpful on the weight-loss end of things), the fatigue and headaches are what have been affecting me the most. I have been doing my best to eat at least some protein each day (when I say lack of appetite, I mean "no" appetite). I am down 5lbs. in the last week and a half though! What are some of the "methods" or treatments everyone on here uses to deal with Fibro?
Welcome! This is such a wonderful & supportive group.
Working full time and going to school! WTG on that! I sometimes feel like just working might be the death of me, lol! Mono is the last thing that someone with fibro needs to get. I certainly hope you can kick that out of your system asap.
My most helpful fibro treatments are chiropractic care, diet and a supplement called Corvalen.
You need to make sure that the chiropractor treats fibromyalgia specially as we are very sensitive and can be hurt easier than those without it.
Corvalen is a natural sugar that your body produces called D-Ribose. There is a theory that those with fibro do not produce enough of it leaving us with that sluggish exhaustion. I have been taking it for almost a year now and it has become such a habit that I don't even think about it unless I run out and forgot to reorder. Today would be one of those days. I can really tell the difference when I don't take it. The website is Corvalen.com. It has been featured in magazines and you can find copies of those articles under the media section. I actually heard about it in Woman's World.
I find that when I eat whole foods (ie no fat free, sugar free, processed convenience foods) I feel better. Refined sugar also causes pain. As soon as I finish a can of pepsi I get all achy. I also can't eat any sugar substitutes because they give me headaches.
You mentioned you have a lack of appetite. Have you tried drinking a good whey protein shake in the morning? Just to give you some nutrients and get your day started.
everyone responds differently to treatments and I have learned that fibro is a "try & see" type of condition.
I hope you can find some helpful info & support here
Have a great day!
Kristy :o)
Kristy,
Thanks for the welcome! And yes, I do have quite the crazy-busy lifestyle!
I will definitely look into Corvalen. I've found that when I'm down to a certain weight-range, working out 5-6 days a week, and stretching daily, my symptoms are less bothersome. I also have to be very conscious about what I eat as I have food allergies and sensitivities in addition to the ever-obnoxious IBS many of us suffer from. One major thing I'm allergic to is corn syrup, so cutting that out of my diet has been a major help! It severely limits the amount of processed foods I can eat (which I'm not a fan of anyway), but it does make it hard to buy some staples, like breads.
I did have to stop using Splenda (tears!) as it was bothering me across the board; Sweet N Low hasn't bothered me thus far, so I'm crossing my fingers there.
I do actually drink a protein shake in the morning! It's so funny you said that! The loss of appetite is from the Mono, so I've just been making myself drink a protein shake in the morning (or eat a couple eggs), and then something again in the evening after work. I haven't been hungry during the day yet since I got sick, so chicken bouillon has been my best friend!
Thanks again!
Brianna =)
