HELP I need suggestions please

posted by Boatchick on 3:58 am

I have a lunch meeting today (buffet at the executive cafe), I checked out the menu and won't be tempted by chocolate torte.  However, the soup, salad, sandwiches, entrees, and veggies might be tempting.  If I over do it today at lunch, I can cut back tonight.  This morning the boss man is bringing in Panera Bread bagels and stuff this morning, and I have decided to behave and have low calorie, low fat taco soup for breakfast.  I love it and soup is fitting with the dusting of snow.
Where I really need help is for tomorrow.  Training all day on campus, that means breakfast (probably fruit and pasteries or donuts or muffins), lunch probably bread sandwich and cookie and pasta, etc.  Then tomorrow night is pizza and beer with friends.  I ended up not going last week, becuase one of my friends couldn't be there, so we both decided to join the group this evening.  They meet every Wednesday, I meet about once a month and have been looking forward to tomorrow night.
I do plan to exercise like a mad woman tonight after I get home.  And since I don't have to be at work until 8:30am tomorrow (instead of 6:30), I plan to get the exercise completed in the morning.
WOW, I guess I have part of a plan, just need the willpower to make it happen.

I was going to suggest getting something good in your stomach before you go - like fruit, your soup, etc.  If you can, pack some fruit tomorrow. Eat the fruit before going through the sandwich line, then just make good choices. Try not to let yourself get 'gnaw your arm off hungry'. Sandwiches aren't the end of the world; you may be able to get away w/ a half sandwich and fruit. The Pasta salad might be workable. You never know!  Just be mindful of serving sizes.

Thank you!  This is encouraging.  I will be mindful of portions.  I am so glad you put that out there as a reminder.
I have also tracked the food today from the buffet selections: salmon, salad, soup, vegetables, etc.  I can live with those selections.  The cocktail offering is a "Korbel Sweet Heart" so I can resist that for sure.  My weakness might be a glass of wine if others partake.  That's not show stopper either.   STAY AWAY FROM THE COOKIES....  My mantra today.
Also, good news and help with motivation, a new low weight this morning.  Now under 25 pounds to goal, but barely at: 24.8

My wife has that same problem when she attends training.  She will usually just remove the bread completely and just eat the meat and veggies.  Sometimes she will only use one slice of  bread.  be sure to drink water before and during lunch, and that may help curb your desire for cookies and pastries.  if you can't completely curb it, cut a cookie in half and throw away the other half.  just some ideas.  good luck.

Conferences/meetings with lots of food have always been an issue for me.  I was in Vegas all week last week in a similar situation as yours.  I have been trying something new that really worked!!  I made sure I chewed every bite of food 30 times - and probably ate half of what I would have otherwise.  It gave my brain a chance to catch up with what I've eaten - and I just didn't want more!   Also drank lots of water.  Just an idea.

I usually carry apples, nuts (portioned out in baggies), favorite teas and gum with me for training/conferences.  They help me stay away from the sweet and really no one notices.  As for the tea, I do that because it can be a treat and they always have hot water available.

Oh boy can I relate...one thing about buffet selections at least is YOU control what you put on your plate.  Often our same type of affairs have a wrap choice and also a vegetarian choice, plus usually condiments are on the side (all positive.)  And as Laura says, make sure you don't go there hungry!  Have a handful of nuts or something like that 15-20 minutes before lunch...it will curb your appetite.  And remember, it's just one day.  Enjoy the gathering and don't make the food your focus (sooo easy to do when you are dieting!)  Go with a plan and then try to take your mind off of it.  Mingle and socialize (if it is suited for that)...you can't eat when you are jabbering!

You guys gave me more support/suggestions than I ever hoped.  THANKS.  Today was a success at lunch.  I had a small portion of pasta salad, haricot verts, a tiny piece of soda bread, beets that were to die for, and delicious salmon. I've never had better salmon.  WOW what a treat, and healthy at that.  I stayed away from the dessert table, though I did have a small Famous Amos cookie from the sensory lab and a pretzel.
Now, on to exercise today and up tomorrow for more so I can enjoy some pizza and beer in the evening.  I will take your suggestions to heart tomorrow.  I like the one slice of bread or no bread, but knowing me one slice will satisfy.  And the half cookie, and soup in the morning before I leave the house then I can pass on the morning sweets.  I may have fruit, they nornally have that available.  I CAN DO THIS... new mantra.
WHAT A SUPPORT GROUP!! Let me know whenever I can return the favor.  You people are the best.  LOVE IT!!

Seriously, bread is a big temptation. I have respect for anyone who can stay away from it.
