Weigh-In / Week #25

posted by billrat365 on 6:25 am

Hello everyone!  It's been a while since I posted a weigh-in....a month to be exact!  Life has been busy, crazy busy and we've been traveling a little so I haven't spent a lot of time here on Livestrong.com.  However, I am still on my mission...and the good news...still making progress!  I finally hit another milestone today, so I wanted to go ahead and post my weight for next Monday since I will be away from my computer most of next week...

My group number is 31.
My loss since my last post (a month ago) is 6.3!
My total loss on the Jackson's Challenge is 70.0 pounds!!!
I have 30 pounds left to lose to meet the Jackson's Challenge.
SW - 327.0
CW - 257.0
GW - 227.0

WHOO-HOO!  70 Pounds!!  I'm feeling better than ever.  I haven't been tracking my food and drink for about a month now.  I'm still making good decisions on food, but I have noticed that I'm not eating quite as healthy as I was when I was monitoring and recording every bite.  Also, I don't think I have been eating as much as I should.  That's been ok for the past few weeks...you know I have always had to "change it up" to keep my progress going in the right direction...but after Thanksgiving, I'm gonna get back on it...I want to kick that final 30 pounds off forever!  I have continued my exercise.  Still working with a trainer twice a week and we've really kicked it up a notch.  I also try to make two spinning classes every week...I love it.  Hoping I may get some cycling shoes for Christmas!
Anyways, for all you new members...welcome!  You've found the perfect place for support and encouragement to help you along your journey.  To all you "old-timers"...congrats on your success while I've been away.  I look forward to chatting with you after the holiday!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Welcome chappy. :o)
I am sure you will love this group.  I am so glad you have comitted to this journey and refusing to quit.  It may take a while which I have manage to succumb to but it will be worth it in the end.  I love this quote from a fellow member "We can all progress as long as we never quit; afterall, it's better to have bumps in the road than never start the journey itself."  You can do it!!!!

hi chappyboy,
Welcome to The Jackson's 100 Pound Challenge. You are in Group #37.

You've definitely come to the right place. Everybody is very supportive and dedicated here.

We're all in the same boat trying to accomplish the same thing. This is an awesome group and very supportive and dedicated.

We're here to help you in any way we can. Best of luck to you on your improved lifestyle and weight loss journey.

We weigh in on Mondays and prettygirl will post everyone's weight loss results and group records on Tuesdays.

Drink lots of water, exercise, post & read with us and track everything you eat.

Here are some guidelines for posting your losses and general information:

**********Welcome to the Challenge***********

We will support you, all the way, not just the first 100 pounds (if you have more to lose). This is just a loose chart of how you can lose 100 pounds in one year. You get four weeks to complete each goal. These are loose goals to work for and there aren't any penalties if you miss a goal. Please also set some mini goals for yourself if you wish.

Goal 1: -10
Goal 2: -10
Goal 3: -10
Goal 4: -9
Goal 5: -9
Goal 6: -9
Goal 7: -8
Goal 8: -8
Goal 9: -8
Goal 10: -7
Goal 11: -7
Goal 12: -5

Please use this format weekly when posting your updates:

My starting date is __________
My group number is _________
My loss for the week is ____________
My total loss on the Jackson's Challenge is __________
I have _____ pounds left to lose to meet the Jackson's Challenge.

The key to losing weight is wanting to do it badly enough and finding the motivation to carry it through.

To start with, you need to ask yourself who you are losing weight for. If the answer is me you'll find it easier.

Get Support. Surrounding yourself with a good support network may also help to spur you on and TDP can certainly help you with that. By going into the Jackson's 100 Pound Challenge Group, you'll meet plenty of like-minded people who all want to lose weight. The advantage of this is that you'll always be able to find someone who has been through a difficult time with weight loss and has come out on the other side. This alone can be all that it takes to keep you motivated and on track.

In the meantime, you may also find it helpful to enlist the help and support of friends and family. Do you have a friend you could exercise with? Could your partner also do with eating a more healthy diet? Or could you encourage your work colleagues to do a fruit run rather than a chocolate run every afternoon?

You'll also find that once the weight starts to come off, the compliments will start to flood in and this will also help to keep you motivated. Ultimately, providing you really want to lose weight and have plenty of support to help you along the way, you'll achieve your goal. Good luck!

If you need help with anything please let us know. Each Monday we post our losses for the week. (You are in Group #37)

Thank you and good luck :)

Are they serious?

I have a crazy question.  When I was doing my Daily Plate entries, I added that I spent 8 hours (480 minutes) sitting and doing light work.  It deleted 1400 calories from my plate!!! No way is that correct?!?! Is it?

by brendalou58 on November 19th 2009 at 11:57 am

Personally, I never chart this as "activity".  I figure that when you calculate your calories and it asks for your activity level, THAT is where the calories are already deducted for your calorie goal.  I only chart things like walking, aerobics, swimming...stuff like that.  Hope this helpsl.

by AlainaSwain on November 20th 2009 at 7:08 am

I too only chart actually exercize. Things like cleaning the house, cooking and generally sitting down playing with my son are things I do everyday and I know I am not burning alot of calories. I too have found that the calories burned tracking is a bit exaggerated. For example, when I run for 45 mins on the treadmil at 4.0mph the tracker on my treadmil states that I have burned 360 cals for that workout, but the LS tracker states that I have burned almost 500 cals. I go by the tracker on my treadmil as it seems more accurate to me.

by Dave916 on November 20th 2009 at 12:01 pm

One probably does not want to list calories such as sititing etc...as that is already projected in one's basic calories burned in a day...Ie BMR. Most people track physical activity outside their normal job or activies that do not include sitting ie...doing housework, yardwork or walking etc....
Calories the body requires for sleeping and minimum activity levels such as sitting are already included in your daily requirements based upon your BMI and should not be tracked as physical activity.

Best,
dl

Woot Woot! Off to great start.

posted by Dave916 on 1:59 pm

As most already know, I have gained about 8-10 lbs. back since last July; while it may seem I am not winnng the challenge, I am indeed winning the war for total body transfromation. Today was quarterly body fat percentage testing day. The results:
started in July 2008 @ 298 lbs. 44% body fat.
July 2009 (Four months ago) 245 lbs. 26.8% body fat.
Today: Nov 18th, 2009: 255 lbs 25.5 % body fat.
According to the trainer who does my fat testing caliper test: I have gained 10 lbs. of muscle since July, which is why my clothing still fits loose despite gaining weight  :O
Thank you all my friends for supporting me on the journey todate.

by skinnyholly on November 18th 2009 at 4:27 pm

Dave... CONGRATULATIONS !!!  Those are amazing stats !  Very Interesting.... I have always heard that muscle weighs more than fat. It is so good that you have the official measurements to prove it... Way Cool !!

by fullglass on November 19th 2009 at 2:28 am

Good job my friend it's all that sanding. Keep hangin and bangin.

by marjim71 on November 19th 2009 at 5:31 am

Dave that is AWESOME!!!!  You have definitely worked hard to get there.  You have done a wonderful job and I Thank You for sharing.  It shows those of us that depend way too much on what the scale shows that other changes are happening.  You have given me a dose of motivation :o)  While I can't afford a gym I can move more at and around my home.
You are such an inspiration!!
Thank you!!!

Weight loss this week:  2.2 lbs
Total loss on Jacksons: 15.2 lbs
I have 84.8 lbs to meet Jacksons Challenge.
I have 6.6 lbs to lose to meet my 15lb mini goal by Dec. 15.

YES! Finally made it to 15 pounds lost! I was kind of scared because I did a weigh-in on saturday and I had gained 1.3 pounds, so this is good.

by AlainaSwain on November 18th 2009 at 7:08 am

Congrats. Keep up the awesome work.

by cougardoogan on November 18th 2009 at 8:31 am

Thanks. I'm also really exicted because I put up a "ten pound loss paper chain" (like you'd make as a kid for chrismas decorations" that has a chain in 10 pound incriments. I put it up way earlier this year, and have not been able to take a single link off of it! I am less than 5 pounds away from taking off the first link (20 pounds)! I am kind of embarrassed because my boss just asked me a few weeks what it was for, and i had to come to admit what it was for, so I will be glad to take that 20 pound link off and put it on her desk!

by dawsha on November 18th 2009 at 9:37 am

Congrats to you! I have taken your chain idea and made one for myself. Hopefully I will be able to take a link off soon too!

by Dave916 on November 18th 2009 at 9:46 am

Congratulations, you are doing it Cougardoogan. Keep it up.

by skinnyholly on November 18th 2009 at 4:29 pm

Way to Go !!!

by skinnyholly on November 18th 2009 at 4:32 pm

Cougardan... I like visuals too... I am thinking of taking your idea and using Paper Clips... but instead adding a paper clip for every pound lost and it will get longer and longer as I lose... hmmm, I think I like that idea !!!

by marjim71 on November 20th 2009 at 7:16 am

Cougardoogan you started something.lol

I am going to do this with large paperclips worth 5 lbs each.  Great idea for those of us who like visuals.
Great loss this week!!

by kendallvon on November 20th 2009 at 9:38 am

I love it!  I think I'm gonna run off and scrounge the house for paperclips!

posting weigh in.

posted by AlainaSwain on 10:30 am

Its been awhile and I am not sure what my weight was back in October. I am starting from scratch.

My start date is 8/11/08
My group # is 16.
CW-197.5lbs
I have lost 43.0lbs so far on the JC.
I have 57.0lbs left to lose to meet the JC.
I have 67lbs left to lose to reach my gw.

SW-240.5
CW-197.5
GW-130

I a pretty sure I gained some weight as between what has been going on for the past month, I haven't really been tracking. I am also not sure if my bathroom scale is accurate. With my daughter being sick the past week and a half, I haven't been able to get to ww to weigh in.  She is doing better. We took her to the doctor's  on Saturday. She has a mild respritory infection and the doctor put her on antibiotics for 5 days. Tomorrow, she takes the last dose. If she stays fever free, she can return to school on Thursday. Not looking forward to all the back school work she has to complete. Neither is she. Thank god she is only in kindergarten. As long as she gets her back work done she will be fine. Hopefully she won't get sick again for along time. As for me I am fine got a bit of a chest cold, but I haven't been coughing much today so unless I start having coughing fits again, I don't think I need to see a doctor after all. I think we all just picked up a bug during our trip either at Disneyland or while on the air plane (those planes are germ incubators). Oh well. Have a great week everyone.

by marjim71 on November 17th 2009 at 3:05 pm

My vote is the plane.  I am glad your daughter is finally getting well.  Hopefully yours won't get any worse.   I am glad to see you are still in onderland after all that you have been through this month.  The wedding alone would have done me in.  Actually I was done in but by a funeral.  Anyways I am so glad things are getting back on track for you.  Hang in there.  It will be worth it in the end.

Take care!!

by skinnyholly on November 17th 2009 at 3:26 pm

Any time I have to be on a plane, I gain extra water weight for sure that can take several days to a week or so for me to shed.  I wish it weren't so but it is for me for sure.  I hope you and your daughter are both well very soon !!

by AlainaSwain on November 18th 2009 at 7:14 am

Thanks. My daughter is better now. She just took her final dose of her antibiotic. She isn't coughing today and her temp is at 98.6 so I am going to send her to school tomorrow. She really wants to go back and is really excited. I think she is sick of being home as she couldn't go outside to play at all for the past week and a half. I am going to take the kids to the playground this weekend to make up for keeping them cooped up in the house. Got to take advantage of the mild  temps (50s-60s) while we have them as soon it will be snowing here.

Not such a great week but I was a little out of control over the weekend. Every meal started with the best of intentions but I kept letting mysefl get too hungry & paid the price...plus junk food. Not real healthy choices.

by marjim71 on November 17th 2009 at 5:25 am

You still had a loss and that is progress.   You will find what works for you.  I found when I was consistant in losing I ate 3 larger meals and 2 snacks.  Divide your calories up accordingly.

Best of luck..........You can  do this!!!

by skinnyholly on November 17th 2009 at 3:34 pm

To have a loss on a week where you knew things were a little out of control.... is AWESOME !!  Look at that as a gift and incentive to push forward to see larger losses.  I hope you have a GREAT Week and will meet your goals !

by skinnyholly on November 17th 2009 at 3:38 pm

WOW  85.8 pounds lost !!  Awesome !!  You are a true inspiration to so many in this group.  I think the closer we all get to our goal weight the slower this journey will be and the more plateau's we could possibly hit.  I hope you have another loss very soon !!  Thanks for hanging in there and inspiring us all !!!!!!!!!

My starting date is 11/11/09
My group number is #37
My loss for the week is 4 lbs.
My total loss on the Jackson's Challenge is 4 lbs.
I have 96 pounds to lose on the Jackson challenge.
SW - 350    GW - 250  CW - 346
I obviously have a long journey ahead of me..but I've taken the first step.  It was important to me to be accountable and part of a group that was making this journey.  I am going to do my very best to stay focused on this challenge.  I am increasing my exercise a little each day.
I do watch my carbs because I am diabetic so the daily plate is very helpful for that.  Saying hi to everyone and especially those in Group #37!

4 pound loss is AWESOME!!!  That is a great way to start.  Don't get discouraged just take one day at a time and move when you can.  What exercising are you doing???  I am looking for some that I can afford and not kill the knees (arthritis) too badly.  Would love water aerobics but money is a bit tight from being laid off until I find another job.

Best of luck!  You can do this.

by kendallvon on November 16th 2009 at 12:20 pm

Great job, Kitty!  We in Group 37 need to stick together.... awww.... ALL of us need to stick together, don't we!  A 4 pound drop is wonderful!

by prochef65 on November 16th 2009 at 1:15 pm

Way to go! Keep up the great work!
Just keep focused on mini goals as even the thought of 100# for me is daunting. But I'm focusing on that 1st 10#. Then I'll move on to the next goal.

Great loss Karen!!!  At least are thinking about Thanksgiving already.  I haven't even begun.  I had better start so it doesn't get too ugly.  Best of luck.

by kendallvon on November 16th 2009 at 12:25 pm

Sounds like a plan to me!  I've decided on some "healthier choices" for Thanksgiving.  Found a recipe from "Cooking Light" (I think) for a cider glazed root vegetable with walnuts instead of potatoes.  yum!
Congrats on the 2 pound loss, Karen!

by prochef65 on November 16th 2009 at 1:17 pm

I've talked the family into a "lighter" Thanksgiving as well. Fingers crossed it will go well. I saw that recipe & it does look great. Let me know how it turns out.

by Dave916 on November 16th 2009 at 10:17 am

Chrystal,
You are going through a normal phase when losing and gaining the same pounds now that you have lost so much weight; possibly it means you  may need to switch your routine. I know from experience that I am undergoing the same thing. However, do not get frustrated or fed up. Revise your workout in order to trick your body and it may help to get you losing again.
Best,
dl

It could be worse you could have not lost it again.  You are doing great.  Keep at it!!

I have to remind myself that weight loss *should* be a slow process.  And it's frustrating at times, but I just need to keep at it.  Without you ladies' encouragement, I might have thrown in the towel.   You all have my sincere thanks.

Loss this week of 2.4 lbs.

I am struggling to find motivation to track. I am eating right but am busy and can't seem to find the time. It has to be a priority because otherwise I will go right back up to 284 and I know it. So, I am trying. This is not an easy journey. I am doing OK though! Feeling wonderful!

by skinnyholly on November 16th 2009 at 8:26 am

First... congratulations on the 2.4 lb loss !!  You are SO Right... this is not an easy journey .... not at all.....Sometimes just recognizing the fact that you are struggling is the first step.  Like you ....tracking is KEY for me.  If I did not track I would quickly regain my weight and go back to all my old ways.  I hope you can make tracking a priority in your life.  I hope you have a great and motivating week !

by Dave916 on November 16th 2009 at 10:25 am

Way to knock off two more pounds teacher; while it is not an easy journey, you know that and are responding accordingly. As long as we never forget that this is our priority, we will never gain all the weight back. Keep at it and have a nice week.

by kitgirl59 on November 16th 2009 at 10:52 am

That's a wonderful weight loss.  I think we are so hard on ourselves sometimes...but hope you will find the motivation to get back to tracking.  I am brand new to this group and website but finding the tracking is really making me accountable.  It does take some time...but we are worth it.  Hang in there!

It has been a horrible two weeks.  I missed last weeks weigh in the first ever.  I lost a wonderful Aunt.  I am not going to place blame on my depression, I could have made the extra effort to make better food choices. I know I need to start today making those better choices.  I have been fighting with these same ten pounds for at least six months for whatever reason.  It started with not being allowed to exercise (achilles tendon issue).   I have  been released to start light exercise but why can't I get started?  My year is coming up in January and as of today I have only lost 24 lbs.  That is embarrasing.

by skinnyholly on November 16th 2009 at 6:52 am

Hey .... Never be embarrassed about any amount of weight loss.  You obviously have a lot going on in your life.  You see that you have some motivation issues and you are working on those. The best thing is that you are here and you are determined to not give up.  That alone is HUGE and I am very Proud of YOU !!  We are behind you ... and here for support any time.... I am wishing you a GREAT Week,, I Hope this is the week that you find your motivation and make good food choices... Good Luck !!!!

by JEL3rd on November 16th 2009 at 8:04 am

Ok Time for me to grab ya and give ya a diet buddy hug.  You and I have both had a rocky year. Just stop and look at how much better we have gone to being healthy. The weight loss may not be there girl but you know you are eating healthier and are focused more on what you eat then you use to be.
As for workingout I have told my wife that the minute I get home she is suppose to point me to the workout room lol I have not been working out and I know that 7lbs could have been a bigger loss If I had. I think the break I took has reset my body and is going to let me bust through my plateu. We have both been fighting the same 10 lbs girl you will bust through it just have faith.
I beleive once you startin sweatin to the oldies again and watch your intake you will see them melt off again.
God Bless ya Marjim and message me if ya need to vent

by ereilly311 on November 16th 2009 at 9:04 am

Just try your best to stay positive and do the little things. I had the same issues this summer where I couldn't work out because I tore a ligament in my ankle so I was sidelined and it totally bummed me out. But just work your way back, its a slow process but you're jsut helping yourself get better. Hope this week starts getting better for you, just keep your head up and keep pushing through!

Hi! I just joined livestrong this morning and have 100 pounds to lose. I am hoping that this group will help me do it. Over the last few months, I have gone to an organic diet. I eat all organic food, no additives or preservatives, no red meat, a little seafood, very little dairy, and I am feeling better. I am ready for the next step - eating less and exercising. I hope this group can help me!
Thanks!

Weekly Weigh-In

posted by queen_bee on 9:17 am

Went to Hawaii....and that's all I'm going to say. :) What sucks is I was 2 pounds lighter a couple days ago, but I think it's my salt intake/TOM causing the poor weigh-in. At least, I hope that's the problem.
My starting date is 10/17/09.
My group number is 36.
My loss for the week is .4 pounds.
My total loss on the Jackson's Challenge is 6.6 pounds.
I have 93.4 pounds left to lose to meet the Jackson's Challenge. eek!
My starting date with Livestrong is 8/23/09 and my total loss is 27.8 pounds.

by skinnyholly on November 14th 2009 at 10:41 am

I bet Hawaii was AWESOME !!!  I am sure you will see your weight go back down after a few days... after you get that salt and water out of your system,,,, Good Luck this week !

Happy Saturday

I hope everyone has a GREAT Weekend.  Today my husband and I are headed to his work to get him caught up. We will stop at Denny's for breakfast.  I logged onto their website and found a  "veggie cheese omlette made with egg beaters" for 346 calories.  I will have that.  I think tonight we are eating at a Mexican Restraunt and I have decided to have a Grilled Chicken Salad.  Trying to make good choices today.  Take Care all and enjoy your weekend !!

by AlainaSwain on November 14th 2009 at 8:39 am

Great job on the breakfast choice and way to go on the preplanning. I find figuring out what to eat before you go to a resturant, helps me stay on track. Most resturants have detailed nutrition info on their websites which helps alot when deciding what to eat.
My daughter is still sick. My husband took her to see the doctor this morning (she requested that daddy take her) while I stayed home with our son (didn't want him sitting in a waiting room full of sick kids as I a sure that their are alot of them this morning as I was on hold for 30mins trying to make the appointment).  Oh well. I a sure she doesn't have swine flu, but she has had a fever and a bad cough since Monday and I just want the doctor to look her over and if possible give her something that will help her get over he symtoms faster. I hate to see her missing so much school. She missed a week last month due to us being out of town and now this. Oh well. Have a great day everyone. Stay healthy.

by skinnyholly on November 14th 2009 at 10:39 am

I hope your daughter gets well very soon and does not have to miss any school.  Mine are both grown now, but I remember those younger years!

by AlainaSwain on November 14th 2009 at 10:58 am

Thanks. The doctor discovered that she has a small respritory infection and prescibed antibiotics. She has to be on them for 5 days. So unfortunatley she will be out of school at least until Thursday or Friday. Hopefully the symptoms will be gone by then. I am just hoping my son doesn't get it. I have been coughing alot the past few days, and if It doesn't stop by Monday, I am going to call my doctor and get checked out as well. Wish me luck. It has not been a fun week.

by skinnyholly on November 14th 2009 at 1:50 pm

Sending good vibes to you, both kids and the hubby too.... that you may all get well or not get sick if you are already well !!  Take care of those kids and YOUR  SELF !!

Update from Doctor's Appointment - November 12, 2009 Broke a weight barrier!
posted by fitladyj on 4:07 pm | Edit this entry
It's official! I weighed in at 222! With my clothes on! LOL !!! My weight barrier was 223. I haven't been below 223 in 7 years!
The Dr. did recommend I track inches also so I've got an appointment set with a physical trainer on Saturday to get going with that. My clothes are falling off me. I'm going to have them taken up and look forward to purchasing a few new pieces in March if I can continue on this path.

I was wrong about my A1c number...my last A1cwas 6.5%  It is now 6.8%. New goal is to get it below 6% by March 2010. My Dr. says she has seen cases where people lose weight and their A1c actually rises. So she just up my evening dosage by 2 units to get my morning number below 100.  The is no major foot damage. I believe when I get more of this weight off, there will be less strees on them and less pain. My cholesterol went from 211 down to 144 (Trying to get it below 100) LDL's from 155 to 94... Triglyc's were 144. My HDL's dropped from 45 down to 42 so I've go to get them back up between 45-50.
I'm excited about my progress. It's just the fuel I need to keep me moving!

That is great news.  Thank you for sharing.  It does go to show losing pounds effects more than we see physically.  To me  the most important aspect of this journey is how the inside of your body changes.  WAY TO GO!!!!!  I am so glad you found your way back here.

If you find a way to decrease your triglycerides let me know.  Mine is way to high.

Hi Von....Welcome.
I believe you would continue with your original starting weight.  From week to week I haven't always had a loss of pounds...more often than I like I gain but my SW always reamains the same.

I hope this helps.

As someone (here?) once told me, water comes off faster than fat!  I've lost 3 pounds of "water" weight in 2 days and I, too, was sick.  I wonder if our bodies just wanna hang on to the fluids when we're ill.  It would make sense with fevers and such.  Anyhow, don't sweat it.  Just keep to the "plan".
Best of luck!

Hi,  my name is Virginia and I just came across this great challenge. I need alot of help.
I have lost as much as 85 pounds in a 9 month period in the past but it was only a couple of years
before it was back on.  I'm almost 50 and I can really feel my health getting worse.  I still
have young children at home as well as grandbabies to watch grow up.  I started working
on cutting back on my calories about 1 week ago and, in the past, have always seen weight
loss right away but this time I seem to be staying put and even going up instead.  Scarey!
It was only about 2 months ago I went on a diet and lost right away (of course that only lasted about
4 days).  I don't understand what is going on but I also seem to just hurt when I eat anything with
fat or sugar in it.  No fun!  I would love to make this work and be able to encourage others along the
way.  I appreciate any help I can get here.    Looking forward to meeting some fellow travellers.

My starting date is Nov. 12th, 2009
My group number is ?
My loss for the week is _0
My total loss on the Jackson's Challenge is 0
I have 100 pounds left to lose to meet the Jackson's Challenge.

I have 8.8 lbs to lose to meet my 15lb mini goal by Dec. 15.

SW: 297
CW: 284
GW: 150

Ok, now I am a little scared; i've slacked off these last couple of weeks, still posted a very tiny loss, but now have a month to lose almost 9 pounds...that's 2 more than 2 pounds a week and that magnatude of loss isn't normal for me, i'm normally just about a pound a week...  Guess I will really have to start hitting the gym! And i've been on a stroganoff kick, which isn't the best thing for me since I can't stop myself from eating it before i get completely stuffed.... ugg... ::encouragement needed::
I guess on a positive side, my husband and I did get a puppy; 5 months old, beagle mix (mixed with huskey/lab is what they told me, but i don't see it, she looks more doberman than anything) but she is already the size of a beagle so we don't know how big she will get, but hopefully i can get her calmed down enough to be able to go for  a walk without pulling the leash... I need to try the harness we have...

by cougardoogan on November 11th 2009 at 7:17 am

on a side note, i had to buy a new belt - bought a men's size 52 (yes i'm a girl and i have to buy them cuz i can't find them anywhere else that fit me cuz i'm odd-shaped) and it has 5 holes in it and when i put it on this morning, i was on the second hole (could have done the third, but it would have been a little tight...

All my work pants are courdory's so they do have a good amount of stretching after wearing them for a while, so i have almost always needed a belt since i bought them, but it is somewhat encouraging to me to see the hole number going down. It's hard for me to buy pants because I have a size 24 waist but size 22 hips/thighs, so the 22s are too tight, and the 24s fit, but are way too baggin in the legs... Hopefully we'll get this all straightened out soon!

by Dave916 on November 11th 2009 at 10:00 am

Cougar you are progressing, so no need to be scared. I too have moments where I slack off but we at least realize we  need to get back on track. As for the stroganoff, it may help to not cook more than a serving or two so that you do not get tempted to eat too much of it.
The belt is a great visual too as it will boost your spirits everytime you subtract a hole :)

Have a good week.

by skinnyholly on November 11th 2009 at 3:30 pm

Cougar,
Most important you are here, you are still trying, and you are not giving up.  That alone is AWESOME !!
I like Dave's idea of only cooking one portion size of stroganoff.
For me, I try to eat as normally as possible the way my husband or family eats, but am trying to watch the poriton sizes.  I do have "danger" foods that I have to be much more careful of.  It helps me to leave the food on the stove.  Do not put the food on the table. I use a very small salad or child size plate.  I no longer use an adult size plate.  Then I pre decide how much I am going to eat before the meal is cooked.  Then I measure out my portion and place that portion on my child size plate.  I take that child size plate to the table and that is what I eat for the evening meal. I do not go back for seconds. It has taken some time for me to get use to this dicipline, but it is working pretty well for me.  You might even consider putting the leftovers up immediately or even throwing them away.  I no longer have guilt about throwing away food.  It is better to throw it away than cause me to over eat it.
What is working for me may not work for you, but hopefully it will give you some ideas of something that will work for you.
Also, you now losing 9 pounds before December may not be reasonable. You do not want to be discouraged if you do not lose that much weight in that time frame.  You are doing good !!  I try not to give my goals dead lines.  I work hard at them, I celebrate them when I reach them, I just do not give them dead lines.  This is a journey .... not a race....
Best of Luck this week....

by skinnyholly on November 11th 2009 at 3:33 pm

Also... the belt getting looser is WONDERFUL !!!!  Any sign of loosing weight whether it is on the scale or looser clothes or looser belts... is Great !!  Many Congratulations !!

by cougardoogan on November 12th 2009 at 10:27 am

Thanks for the comments; yea, my living situation isn't the greatest; my husband won't eat almost anything i make, and almost refuses to sit at the table for dinner. I suppose I don't help that out by not having "meals" to sit at the table for... I just get too tired or lazy to do it (acutally have something going on that i can't bring myself to admit to anyone - i know it's causing all my problems but i just can't give it over).....

As with the stogenoff, i make a full batch so that i will have leftovers to take in to work so i don't have to spend $6+ a day on my lunch in the cafeteria; the problem is that i get on a "kick" of something, and end up eating that for every meal for a few days...liek strogenoff, burritos, spaghetti, etc...

Glad I'm here and thinking positive thoughts for the future.
