Few updates. Yesterday I signed my borther and myself up for Mudstache which is a local 5k
obstacle course on a ski slope. Should be a blast and is just some training for the Tough
Mudder in October we are going. Ordered a pair of Vibram Five Finger shoes (the ones with
the individual toes) in prep for the event. Can't wait for them to come in.
Went to a Take Care Clinic in Walgreens today for a health assessment for my insurance
company. I am happy to say that in the last 5 months I have brought all my fasting blood
levels (LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, Glucose, and Blood Pressure) within normal levels. No
more treat of being diabetic! Can't express how excited I am.
Just finished week 3 of Insanity workout. Have to say the workouts kick my b**** as my
musclues burn during them but feel good shortly after. I already notice my core and legs
getting stronger in the daily activities I do. Along with my felxibility. Seeing and
feeling those results is so rewarding.

Hi lyriclover74:
I couldn't post under your blog because there is a / in the post title and livestrong
doesn't like that.
Welcome to The Jackson's 100 Pound Challenge. Best place to be!!! You can go in Group
#71.
You've definitely come to the right place. Everybody is very supportive and
dedicated here. Losing 100 pounds is a dream which can come true!!
We're all in the same boat trying to accomplish the same thing. This is an awesome group
and very supportive and dedicated.
We're here to help you in any way we can. Best of luck to you on your improved lifestyle
and weight loss journey.
We weigh in on Mondays and I will post everyone's weight loss results and group records on
Tuesdays.
Drink lots of water, exercise, post & read with us and track everything you eat.
Here are some guidelines for posting your losses and general information:
**********Welcome to the Challenge***********
We will support you, all the way, not just the first 100 pounds (if you have more
to lose). This is just a loose chart of how you can lose 100 pounds in one year. You
get four weeks to complete each goal. These are loose goals to work for and there
aren't any penalties if you miss a goal. Please also set some mini goals for
yourself if you wish.
Goal 1: -10
Goal 2: -10
Goal 3: -10
Goal 4: -9
Goal 5: -9
Goal 6: -9
Goal 7: -8
Goal 8: -8
Goal 9: -8
Goal 10: -7
Goal 11: -7
Goal 12: -5
Please use this format weekly when posting your updates:
My starting date is __________
My group number is _________
My loss for the week is ____________
My total loss on the Jackson's Challenge is __________
I have _____ pounds left to lose to meet the Jackson's Challenge.
The key to losing weight is wanting to do it badly enough and finding the motivation to
carry it through.
To start with, you need to ask yourself who you are losing weight for. If the answer is me
you'll find it easier.
Get Support. Surrounding yourself with a good support network may also help to spur
you on and TDP can certainly help you with that. By going into the Jackson's 100
Pound Challenge Group, you'll meet plenty of like-minded people who all want to
lose weight. The advantage of this is that you'll always be able to find someone
who has been through a difficult time with weight loss and has come out on the
other side. This alone can be all that it takes to keep you motivated and on
track.
In the meantime, you may also find it helpful to enlist the help and support of
friends and family. Do you have a friend you could exercise with? Could your
partner also do with eating a more healthy diet? Or could you encourage your work
colleagues to do a fruit run rather than a chocolate run every afternoon?
You'll also find that once the weight starts to come off, the compliments will
start to flood in and this will also help to keep you motivated. Ultimately,
providing you really want to lose weight and have plenty of support to help you
along the way, you'll achieve your goal. Good luck!
If you need help with anything please let us know. Each Monday we post our losses for the
week. (You are in Group 71).
I know it sounds like common sense, but I just got it. It wasn't quite lunch time yet but
I was hungry and had a specific craving. I rooted through the veggie drawer of the fridge
to try to figure out what I was wanting, and realized I really just felt like a nice lime
flavoured ceviche. I chopped up some avocado, cucumber, fresh tomato and green onion,
sprinkled it with lime and some fresh herbs and poached a couple of eggs on the side.
Wow. That was EXACTLY what I was feeling like, and it was worth it to take the time to
figure that out and make it. So what if it was an hour early. I tracked it and the whole
lunch was under 400 calories and I was satisfied and didn't have to keep looking for
something else to eat. YEAH! Had to share.
Hi all,
I currently weigh 257 pounds and my goa1 weight us 150, so I need to lose 150 but 100lbs
is a great start. Can someone explain more about this group to me? I have never been in a
weight loss group, but I want that support and I want to do this for real! I do take some
meication that can cause extreme hunger and I need a wat to fight this. Any ideas?
Thank you and I look forward to knowing my group!

Hi everyone, I've been on and off the low-carb wagon, and trying to get back on. I need to lose at least 60 pounds, but my doctor would like to be 100 so we can try for another baby. I am having trouble staying motivated and on the program. I hope that this will help me stay focused and keep my goal in sight!

well I fell off the wagon and got tramppled on by the horse In my diet the last week and a half I havent even been to Kung Fu in a week and i always go to that. I think im a little stressed Im unemployed and fed up with looking for a job but me and millions of other people i remind myself it could be worse. When im stressed I get in this funk and like to eat fried chicken and be a couch potato but no more excuses im gonna get my but up and get going again. Get right back on the horse right
Now that spring is finally here, or close to being here, what are you going to do to get out of the house and into that sunshine? Anyone got any new ideas for getting out there after a long winter? YEAH SPRING!
I've been on my bike for almost every day for about 3 weeks now (I live in the South). Over the winter, I misssed it a lot!

Today
is just the beginning of my new life! My new healthier happier life! I am in my 20's and
have been fighting my weight for years! It is now getting the best of me! I can't sleep,
my knees hurt, I get winded doing the easiest tasks and I have become lazy! Lazy enough to
watch my children play....not play with them! I don't want my children to grow up to think
I didn't want to do things with them. If they only knew I can't! I am sick of being upset
with myself! I am sick of looking at myself wondering....what happened to you? I am sick
of seeing myself in pictures and being disgusted.....I have made the decision
today....today is the day I will start to change that!! One year from now I will weigh
100lbs less than today! I will no longer be a victim of myself! I will make conscious
decisions about what I eat, not just for me but for my children and my husband! I have
turned to livestrong.com because I need support! I have some people that support me but
its just not enough....I need support from people that know where I am coming from! From
people that have the same struggles! I would also LOVE to be the support that someone else
needs!! With all of that said! Cheers to a me!
Good luck on your change. Prettygirl08 will be along to tell you your group info and posting information. Ask questions, get moving, and make good choices!

The key to losing weight is wanting to do it badly enough and finding the motivation to carry it through.
To start with, you need to ask yourself who you are losing weight for. If the answer is me you'll find it easier.
Get Support. Surrounding yourself with a good support network may also help to spur you on and TDP can certainly help you with that. By going into the Jackson's 100 Pound Challenge Group, you'll meet plenty of like-minded people who all want to lose weight. The advantage of this is that you'll always be able to find someone who has been through a difficult time with weight loss and has come out on the other side. This alone can be all that it takes to keep you motivated and on track.
In the meantime, you may also find it helpful to enlist the help and support of friends and family. Do you have a friend you could exercise with? Could your partner also do with eating a more healthy diet? Or could you encourage your work colleagues to do a fruit run rather than a chocolate run every afternoon?
You'll also find that once the weight starts to come off, the compliments will start to flood in and this will also help to keep you motivated. Ultimately, providing you really want to lose weight and have plenty of support to help you along the way, you'll achieve your goal. Good luck!
If you need help with anything please let us know. Each Monday we post our losses for the week. (You are in Group 71).
I was really surprised to hear my physio therapist say that I didn't need to make any more
appointments with her unless I had more problems. Pardon me? I still can't
walk without pain after having my ankle fused, and she's finished with me? I asked
her about it, and she said I was welcome to come back if I found I needed to in future,
but that this is all she can do for me. I got my orthotics today so we'll see what
they do, but all she's done is give me 2 pages of stretches, and gave me instructions for
the balance board that my husband built. I haven't even been in the gym! How
can I just "figure out" how to learn to walk again!?
I have to phone my doctor and make another appointment. I just feel like sitting
down and having a good cry. Certainly THIS isn't what physio therapy is supposed to
be like! The surgeon says he's not able to do any more for me just now. My doc
says pain killers are the only way of controlling this. Certainly at 45 I'm not
destined for a life of pain killers and immobility! Why are they writing me off?
I'm angry and frustrated at the same time. I will find another physio
therapist, but the wait lists are months long. I don't understand life right
now. I'm reading a book called "Too Young To Feel Old", and it seems to
focus on keeping positive and getting enough nutrition so there is strength to go past the
pain. I hate this. Sorry to vent, but I just don't understand the healthcare
system. Grrrrr......
I am going to focus on what I CAN do, using hand weights and tracking, and I'm going to
read positive books and try to get out of the house more so I don't go bonkers. I
know there are so many things I still can do, so I'll just do that. I won't believe
them when they say "this is it" for me. I don't believe it. I WON'T
believe it.
Don't worry, They did you a favor...now you can find a physiotherapist that can really help with your recovery and has your best interest at heart.
Yes, my plan is to keep looking for someone who can help me reach my goals. It's maddening to see professionals in the health care system be so busy that they move on to the next patient before they are finished with the last one. I will find another physio therapist and I will lose the weight that puts more stress on my joints and I will continue to track even when I haven't lost anything. Thanks for the encouragement.
As the ultimate optimist.... and someone who has experienced physical therapy and been disappointed that they kicked me out when I felt I still had so much more to do..... I do have some words of encouragement. My experience wasn't with post surgical recovery but mild carpal tunnel with stenosing tenosynovitis, clearly on a different level I realize....
-
After 6 visits comp refused to authorize further visits and I was left on my own with a rubber tubing and a sheet of excercises. I followed the instructions religiously and eventually the pain diminished. While very occasionally I will have pain, if I implement the excercises learned and rub on some Icy-Hot the pain is gone within a couple of days.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'll see what the doc says when I see her next week. It's all related to weight since my inflamed arthritic joints are strained because of these extra pounds. It's hard to inally WANT to do something about it and not being able to do what I want. That's why we're all here I guess. We've all come to a place where we WANT to do something about it. Have a great day everyone and thanks for the words. They are encouraging.
Hello everyone,
Group #64

Gain of 1lb last week.
This happens to be one of those "all I can do is shake my head" weeks. I'm sure we've all
had them. I was in the gym 5 days, worked out for around 7 hours total (mostly cardio),
switched up my workout routine regularly, and did not stray over my calorie goal (all
while maintaining 7+ hours of sleep). If I wasn't as committed as I am to a lifestyle
change, this week might've caused serious doubt.
I think one problem might be my carb-protien-fat split. I am usually around 65-20-15,
respectively, and I have been told 40-30-30 (or some similar variation) is healthier. But
my doctor informed me that the split shouldn't really matter if you are running a calorie
deficit.
I've decided, because of the last few weeks, to avoid the scale for a month. I feel
terrific, but my scale readout has put a damper on that feeling. I am going to measure
myself then follow my normal routine (5 days in the gym, staying at/under my calorie
allotment) for a month and measure the results.
Thanks for listening, and best of luck to everyone moving forward.
Today is going to be a good day. Today is going to be a good day. Today is going to be a
good day.
Mind over matter, right? Good luck today friends.
Heather
My darling son brought me breakfast in bed this morning, actually snuck in a turned off our alarm clock so it wouldn't wake us up, since the last couple of times he tried to do it the blasted thing woke us, but that meant I ate before I weighed myself, which I never do, so I'll weigh in tomorrow. Nice walk with my 7 year old Saturday 4.65 mile loop around our town with about 1/2 an hour of roaming around a store thrown in at about 3.5 miles for a total distance of well over 5 miles. I was so proud of her! We have been hiking a few times but long distance walking on flat terrain hasn't really been her thing and to top it off it drizzled on us the whole time. We got home just before it dumped buckets. We were gone for over 2 hours and my hubby was a bit anxious when we got in (the baby woke up about a 1/2 hours before we got back) and I covered the same ground (4.65 miles) in 65 minutes on the eliptical today, but the slowwer pace was well worth it to get my little girl out there with me.

This has been an eventful week for me. I am now able to fully use my hand again, and I am
out of retirement; I now have a part time job. With all the celebrating my eating has been
out of control, (what's new!) but with only slim, stylish, people in the office, I know
I'll get the determination to eat less, and lose weight. My diet is healthy, portions are
my downfall.

I am so excited that I joined the 30 lbs lost group this weekend!!! It seemed
like it took so long to get here, but in actuality, it really hasn't been that long at
all! It's totally worth it to feel so much more confident and happy everyday. I almost
posted something on Facebook the other day, and then I realized...I'm not that far from
40...which is not that far from 50...so I decided to wait it out until I clear the 50 lb
mark. This week should be interesting for me. I'm traveling with work for the next 2
days...heading to good ole Kansas City...so I won't have my normal routine. I already
know what I have to do...the trick is to sticking to the plan whenever someone says, "Hey,
let's grab dinner and drinks, etc". I'm prepared though... lol...I feel like I'm going
into battle or something :) Anywho...I hope that everyone else had a great week and
enjoys this one.
Until Next Time...

I guess I'm frustrated this week. I was able to walk for over a mile last week and was
feeling so great that this ankle fusion is behind me. But the physio therapist says that
the new callous on my the ball of my big toe means that my arch has completely fallen and
I'm developing more arthritis in that joint because it's taking all my weight. She says
less walking until my orthodics arrive and then we'll see what happens. My foot hurts
enough that I've had to take pain meds again. Grrrrrr ...
I just want to go back to work and get my life back. I was offered a branch manager
position with a great package by a company that heard I was available, but I declined it
because I'm not sure I can stand or walk around reliably during the day. I know I said I
was going to take the year to recover, but May is one year, and with this new foot
arthritis showing up so soon, I don't know when I'll ever get my life back.
In the meantime, the weight isn't coming off because my metabolism is sooooo slow from
sitting around so many months and my weight doesn't change with diet alone anymore. It
almost feels like there's no point in watching my diet so carefully and never seeing any
results. If it takes this much work just to MAINTAIN my weight, imagine how heavy I'd be
if I ate like I used to? So I'm not defeated, but am feeling a bit down. Chronic pain
is hard on the mind.
Hubbie saw this and took me out of town for a weekend, rented a suite and we had a great
time together just talking about nothing and reconnecting. I was so grateful to him for
being so understanding. You wouldn't think I'd need a break after taking a year off, but
I needed a break from my life right now. Now I just have to wait and see if the new
orthodics help with the pain. It's nice out. I really want to go for a walk, but here I
am back in my recliner on pain meds again.
Poop. Thanks for all of your support and encouragement through this last year. It's been
a rollercoaster. She's up. She's down. She's disappeared. She's back. I couldn't have
kept at it this long without seeing results if it hadn't been for you guys, so THANK YOU!!
Heather
Maintaining is much better than gaining. 7 pounds lost FOREVER, great work, keep at it. Sounds like the suite you rented was just what you needed. You CAN do this!!!!
Sorry to you are struggling so much. Sounds like your hubby is a good guy who supports you. Try to stay positive.
Any week with no gain is a good week!!...Don't forget that we are all stronger then we think ...and that the man upstairs never gives us more then we can handle. Stay positive!!
Hang in there! If you can't walk, can you do some resistance training. Any muscle you build is gonna sit there burning calories 24/7!
It's not easy living with chronic pain, and to be able to maintain and not gain weight, even though unable to exercise is totally awesome.
THANK YOU! I went to the library with hubbie last night and got some books on living with chronic pain and arthritis, and also some books on building a strong mind along with a strong body. I've got time, so why not ready something healthy. I meet with my physio therapist this morning and we'll make a plan. Hopefully my new orthodic shoes will help me be able to walk with less pain. You guys are terrific.
It rained / snowed here today, so that explains my joint stiffness. I feel that there's a connection between the weather and joint inflamation, whether it's a myth or not. I should set a new goal to buy a hot tub for days like this! Thanks for all your support! I believe I can do this. I have to take each day for what it is, and for sure, maintaining is better than a gain. Thank you all.

Hi All, I skipped my weigh-in last week due to
the unexpected death of my mother-in-law. We've been so busy that logging-in and counting
calories went out the window. What I didn't do was use this very sad time as an excuse to
eat unhealthy foods. I didn't lose, but I didn't gain and that is a big plus. In the
past, a blow like this would have sent me to the pizza delivery page!
So, I'm back and tracking. I need the scale to MOVE! So I'm clipping my fitbit back on
and getting to it.
Linda
Sorry about your loss. Good for you not using this very sad time as an excuse to eat unhealthy foods. That's awesome. Maintaining is much better than gaining. Back and tracking is the best place to be. That scale will move. 7 pounds lost FOREVER. Great work, keep at it.
I am deeply Sorry for your loss. I know it's a very hard time, but try to be strong & Stay positive. Great job on no gain and 7 Lbs lost so far on the challenge!
Don't be too frustrated or disappointed. We all have to remember we didn't gain this weight so we won't lose it overnight. Look at you, almost in the 100's and out of the 200's, that's FANTASTIC!! 16 pounds lost FOREVER. Great work, keep at it.

Well, it was an interesting week. It was really rough at work and at home. No excuses, I
stopped tracking what I was eating, didn't make it to the grocery store, didn't plan
lunches and dinners like I know I need to. So when I stepped on the scale on Friday
morning, I realized how far back I had slipped. It took A LOT of work this weekend to get
back to where I was last Monday! But, the goal is weight loss, not perfection. I can
forgive myself and realize I just slipped up a little bit and need to make sure I am
paying as much attention to myself as I am to everyone and everything else in my life.
I matter and am worth the investment.
Sorry you had a rough week! Looking at the bright side you did not gain...and your investment in yourself will show a nice loss in weight next week..forsure!
You DO matter and you are so worth the investment. Maintaining is much better than gaining. 17 pounds lost FOREVER. Great work, keep at it.

Hi, my name is Kylea and I'd like to join the Jackson Challenge.I'm in my 20s. I am currently unsure of my weight but I will be getting a scale soon. I know I am somewhere around 320 or 330. I have been trying to lose weight for years and I know I need to get committed. I want to be healthy and I'm tired of looking in the mirror and feeling disgusted with myself. My boyfriend is on a mission for our church and he gets back in 10 months. I want to lose some weight before he gets back and surprise him. I know he loves me no matter what but I want to be healthy, and not only for me. I want to be healthy for him, too so that we can have a long future together.
Hi KyleaPrewett:
Welcome to The Jackson's 100 Pound Challenge. Best place to be!!! You can go in Group #71.

I have 2 scales and each one has a different weight. Therefore I'm going to postpone my
weigh-in to Wed and use just the one scale going forward.

This Monday will show my first weight gain. I predicted it would happen, given my
schedule. Birthday dinner for mom-in-law on Wednesday and vendor lunch AND dinner on
Thursday and Friday. And if I thought Thursday was bad, Friday was even worse. I could've
behaved yesterday, but the vendor, a good relationship we've worked with for years, took
us out to a fancy restaurant and went all out. There's this distinction between listening
to your diet, saying no to almost everything and just going with the flow. I went with the
flow. Because the guy was really pushing that we were going to eat a lot of good food,
appetizers and desserts included, I decided not to even try to listen to my diet. I don't
really regret doing it, but fact is that the 7 lbs I lost last week are all back this
morning.
I'm a bit frustrated and disappointed, and it's obvious by me blogging about this that
it's on my mind, but I'm not completely upset about it. I just had a bad week with good
food, beer and companionship that set me back, but I look back with pride at almost 4
months of fantastic weight loss. Time to focus on 4 more of those months, so today I'm
hitting the reset button with a bike ride, tilapia and spinach for lunch, a salad for
dinner, and some Guinness in the evening. Enjoy your weekend, and remember to live!

It was a big week for me because after 3 years of being on narcotics for the pain in my
ankle pre and post surgery, I have finally weened off heavy duty pain pills and am now
drug free!! WHOOO HOOOOO!
Only to find that now I can't sleep at night because my husband snores so badly that I
wake up all the time now that I'm not drugged into a deep sleep. I've tried ear plugs but
during the last few years his snoring has gotten really bad and I just never noticed it.
He went to a doctor who gave him pills which are supposed to help him snore less, but
only make him sleep deeper so he doesn't wake up when I poke him to roll over.
Poop. I refuse to take drugs just to sleep through his snoring when I'm finally managing
my pain and don't need narcotics. His sleeping through it now helps HIM, but after a
restless night on the couch and a VERY grumpy "good morning" when he woke up, he's
realizing that his weight is the issue. We talked briefly this morning and I told him
that if he doesn't lose weight, his snoring will continue. That's what the doc said.
Plus he has diabetes, so he SHOULD be motivated, but it's still chips and beer each night
in front of the tv. I'm finally able to walk again and I DON'T want to sit if I don't
have to now that I'm finally mobile.
I told him this is going to be very bad for our relationship if he doesn't start working
on this. And I mean that in a very real way. I've worked too hard to get through this to
not be able to sleep at night because HE'S not willing to change his lifestyle. I really
really hope he joins me in this journey. I've been cooking healthy meals, but he passes
on the veggies and has an extra helping of starches or proteins. And then snacks an hour
after dinner!
It's driving me crazy. I've got such great news and it means nothing if I still can't
sleep because of him. I love him dearly, but he does not want to live with an over tired
mid-life woman with too much time on her hands to plot and plan revenge.
I have a feeling he'll soon be motivated to join me. Thanks for letting me rant. I want
to focus on the good news of me being off pain meds .... so YEAH ME!!
Have a great weekend everyone.
Heather
It's great to hear that your mobile now!
Has your husband had a sleep test? He might have obstructive sleep apnea if he's overweight. Genetics plays a part in it sometimes as well. If the apnea is bad enough, he would be put on a CPAP machine. You can't snore with one of those on! They're uncomfortable for some people (me). If the apnea is mild, then a mandible splint might work. I had one of those. It pulled my molars apart and made chewing meat annoying and sometimes painful, but that was years ago when most dentist said "a mandible what?!" In the past 6 months I've seen them advertised everywhere.
Yes, he had a monitor on for night but no apnea. That's what we were thinking too. Doc says lose weight and see what happens. Tonight is chick pea and turkey stew with no other options, so if he's hungry, he'll eat what's been prepared, which is low cal and healthy as all get out. Thanks for the input.
