The official LIVESTRONG group for conversations about South Beach Diet
I got the South Beach Diet Cookbook from my mom when I wanted to lose some weight last year. I followed the steps, including the 2 weeks of no bread, sugar or alcohol (brutal) cheating every now and then, and lost 5 lbs in the first 2 weeks -- it helped me drastically change the way I eat, cook, and look at the foods I put in my body. Since i started cooking and eating this way, I've lost 20 pounds, and haven't gained any of it back. My parents both did it, and both saw the same results... I totally recommend it! But like any diet, you get tired of the same old things... so would love to hear of any great recipes that are low-carb, low-sugar friendly...
Hello!
I'm currently waiting for my South Beach book to arrive from Amazon.com. I'm at wits end with this trying to lose weight thing. I can lose 5 lbs or so and then that's it. When you have 50+ to lose, that's just not cutting it! Hope we can get a good discussion group going here!
Nova
Hey Nova! I'm in the same boat. I keep gaining and losing the same 5-10 lbs and I'm sick of it! I actually did the South Beach diet when it first came out and had great success, so today is my first day back on SB in about 5 years and I'm hoping it works just as good as it did the first time! Last time I did SB, I started at 225 lbs and lost down to 155 lbs without increasing activity by much and just by following the SB plan. It took about 9 months all together. This time I hope to lose about 40 lbs....I'm hoping to do that in about 6 months. The South Beach book is a great help for people just starting out, but keep in mind that you really don't need the book. It's all based on Low Glycemic foods - really restricting the glycemic foods for 2 weeks then adding "healthy" carbs in phase 2 and then setting up a lifestyle of eating in phase 3. The first two weeks can be , but you lose a lot of water weight and I've noticed that I seem to accidentally put myself on an anti-inflammatory diet as well. I'm taking supplements (vitamins/minerals, not diet pills) during phase 1 too. Hope it works like last time!

I'm starting! I did Atkins for 3 weeks, until my doctor took me off of it and recommended South Beach instead. I just bought the book tonight, so I'm prepared to start tomorrow. I will probably stay on Atkins for one more day, until I read more about South Beach.
I'm so glad to find this group!
