Please help teens

posted by sephealth on 8:52 pm

SEPH(Social Emotional Physical Health) is an organization of high school students who are concerned about the health of other young adults like themselves. SEPH promotes the spreading of awareness of issues concerning teen health.

Today, more resources and effort are being used for better health. However, even with these contributions, poor health affects millions in poverty. SEPH aims to reach out to all communities of teens,  all over the United States, to India, to Europe, and other regions facing the problem of poor health. However, to do so and make a true healthy impact on our community, we need funds. We currently have no funding, and it is difficult for us to create events and spread awareness about health.
It would be greatly appreciated it anyone could make a donation of any amount to SEPH.

The donations would be directly used to maintain our main website's domain and on events and contest prizes at our school to motivate our peers to spread the word about issues concerning health.
Thank you!

Hello I am a Newbie

posted by TupperMamma on 9:11 pm

Hello all I am new to livestrong and to this group. I am a 28 yr old, happily married, mother of four. I am a Tupperware Consultant and love what I do. I have been overweight since 2005 but over the past year I have gained about 30 pounds. I struggle very much with losing weight. I struggle with giving up soda and with exercising. I joined a gym I really like in december and it has become easier to go. However, I just recently found out I have fibromyalgia and I also have pancreatice divisum so I am ill a lot. I want to get healthier I know there is more to life than being sick all the time. I am excited about the new group. I hope to find and encouragement and be an encourager here.

Hello everyone. Im new here and very excited. Im just like everyong else trying to lose weight and be healthy. Im on my third day of tracking my calories. Which is set at 1300 in order for me to lose the amount of weight that I would like too. Does anyone have any tips on making this easier?

by bethy87 on Dec 28, 2011 at 4:08 pm

Well honestly its not easy! Losing weight and making a lifestyle change is difficult and takes time...a lot of time! I have learned to go one meal at a time. If you eat horrible for breakfast than just move on and make better choices for the rest of the day, don't just throw the whole day out because u splurged. If you eat really bad one day maybe make your workout a little longer or more intense to burn some extra cals. Also you may want to up your calories. Its hard to start so low in calories even if myplate says that. At first you might want to push for half a pound or 1 pound a week just until you get your eating and working out in control and then maybe lower your calories to try and lose more per week. i know that has worked for me but anyways I am here for support so feel free to add me as a friend! take care!!

Mom of an almost 2 year old (Dec.) and 30-40 pounds to lose!!!

posted by shamontaye on 10:46 am

I am a working mother and wife and I joined this group because I see the support. I recently lost weight when I joined a local biggest loser contest...its over now and Im stuck. I feel because I have no "support" Im hoping that me losing weight will motivate my husband to do so as well! I don't work out like a should because I move a lot at work BUT ...if I had someone to go with me on this life style change I'm sure working out would become apart of my life lol!!

by bethy87 on Nov 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm

hi there and welcome. I understand with trying to get your husband involved in a healthier lifestyle with you. Sometimes I feel that the reasons I stumble is because of my husband but I guess it just comes down to having to do it yourself and hope that along the way your hubby will see what good it is doing you and join in!!

Hi Moms,
I just joined this group and Livestrong as well. I'm excited about my journey to loose weight and will be needing some extra encouragement. I am a mother of 3 girls. I have a 4 year old and a year ago I gave birth to twin girls 4 months early! One of the girls is alive, healthy and a true miracle. The other one lived for 9 days and is now alive in Heaven. Needless to say it's been a rough year w/ lots of emotional eating! It's time to get the weight off! I singed up for the Mud Run at the end of October and hired a personal trainer. My goal is to be a healthy, happy mom able to keep up with the girls.

mom with a lot to lose

posted by dcmama on 10:46 am

Hi everyone!!
I'm new to this group.... I've always had a struggle with my weight, but up until recently I was never "bothered" by it really. I have decided that being over weight by 50 lbs just isn't ok. My dad was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer at the age of 57.... i'm on a mission to get healthy. I need a lot of encouragement and help with meal ideas. I have 2 kids, my son is in 1st grade, and my daughter is in kindergarten.... neither have a weight issue: but I FEAR that my daughter will someday be over weight like me and that scares me!
SO... if you have great meal ideas for busy families who are always on the go, please share with me!! I look forward to hearing from you!!

Hello, looking for support outside of the home, for some reason taking support from loved ones w/ BMI of about 19 doesn't settle well on me......looking for good exercises to do w/ a toddler, she loves to help out and be my weights lol (I am sure plenty of mothers understand what I mean)....I only have one child, she is 2yrs 9months....but the things is that I also help a friend out with a dog that can not be left home alone, so I don't see much time to get out of the house to exercise, it all needs to be done here and child friendly.....any comments would be welcome.

One of my girlfriends and I get together twice a week and do Tabata sets.  They only take 16 minutes and we burn at least 150 calories!  It's great when you know the kids will be up from nap soon or done with the cartoon that has captured their interest.   Look up tabata sets on google and have fun with the variations you can put together yourself.

Hi moms!

Hi! I'm a mom of three with 90 pounds to lose. Ugh, I can't believe it has gotten that bad. Well, I am continuing my journey here on Livestrong. I started on WW and lost 20 pounds but decided that I needed to change programs. So far I love Livestrong! It makes sense, and I love all the charts and graphs they have to show what you have been doing. My big struggle right now is finding the time to exercise. With three kids it has been hard to get to the gym. I love going, it's not that I don't want to go work out, it's just a struggle with my kids. I have tried the workout at home thing a few times, but it is so much nicer to workout without the kids crawling around me. I'm left with before my husband goes to work, like 5 or 6 am, or after he gets home, anywhere between 6-9pm. Guess I just have to pick one and stick with it. Well, I hope everyone is having a great day! Eat Healthy!!!! :-)

by bethy87 on Jul 27, 2011 at 11:23 am

Hi there and welcome! I have two kids and so i completly understand with finding the time to exercise. My husband leaves around 5-6am and gets home around 5-6pm during the week so when he gets home I am worn out with the kids and I just want to spend time with him so I struggle getting to the gym. I like to workout but I have trouble finding the balance. Since its summer I find myself going on bike rides with my kids, walking or running with the stroller or any kind of activity we can do together! Anyways take care and welcome again!!

Exercise with the kids?

posted by bethy87 on 11:31 am

I like to walk/jog while pushing my kids in the stoller but I was wondering if any of you have any other suggestions on what I could do with my kids. I have a 2 yrd old and a 9 month years old so some things are limited but please any suggestions would be great!!

by ibdqt34 on Jun 4, 2011 at 6:00 pm

When my children were 2, I used to lay on my back and put them up in the air with my legs. They loved it and it worked out my legs and my abs! It might be too young for your 9-month old but perhaps you could use him/her as like a dumbell like you are lifting weights. Doing that 10 or so times can get those arms rock solid..that way you are getting a whole body workout. You also could turn on the radio (to something you like or to something more seasame street friendly) and dance to it. It gets your kids involved and you're having fun!
Good luck!

New Mommy

posted by SoulMommy on 8:35 am

I am new to this group and excited about losing this weight that I have gained as a result of having my little princess. My baby girl is 4 months now and its time for me to work on getting back into my pre-pregnancy wardrobe. I work full time 40+ hours a week and when I am not working I dedicate the rest of my time to my family. My husband works in the evening, so my workout has to include my daughter. I have 30 pounds to lose, 10 of which is pre-preganancy weight. I decided to jump start my weight loss with the Special K Challenge as of yesterday. I am looking forward to conversing and exchanging ideas with other mommies.

by ibdqt34 on Jun 4, 2011 at 5:57 pm

Hi Soul,
Congratulations on your new baby girl!!
Perhaps you could try some sort of exercise in the morning before she wakes up? It could be as simple as turning on the t.v. and following one of those workout shows or put on the radio and do a little dancing to get your heart rate revved up! Also, I'm not sure where you are but now that the weather is getting warmer and it's daylight longer, you could put her in the stroller and take her for a post-supper meal.
I commend you for getting an 'early' start on those pregnancy pounds. I've tried to get them off and every time I get discouraged I find myself sabbotaging my progress.
I hope we can find support within each other for us both to meet our goals!

Hey guys Im new to the site and this group.. My husband and I have been working on getting in shape since the 3rd of Jan :) We just got the 13.0 livestrong treadmill which is going to help me soo much.. I have 3 kids 2 boys and one princess :) My kids are 8,6, and going to be 2 on Sat :) Both my boys are in school so that leaves me and the princess to work out lol We are in FL so you would think we could walk outside everyday but lately its been one reason or another that we cant which is the reason my husband got me the treadmil...
We are just counting calories which seems to be helping alot.. I started eating less than 1000 but learned that wouldnt work for me so went up to 1200..So far I have lost 6lbs but in my eyes it was just water weight but my husband thinks i should count it lol I keep hearing its harder for women to lose weight and maybe so.. My husband has already lost 20lbs and he gets to eat 2000 calories a day so not fair haha
Anyways I hope that having the treadmill helps me lose the weight faster..I hope to chat with some of you guys soon

by bethy87 on Jun 6, 2011 at 7:06 pm

A women should not drop below 1200 calories even after exercise. Your body needs the fuel and if you make sure that you net calories are 1200 then you are more likely to loose more weight and keep it off then under 1200 and gaining it back because your body wants more and you end up binging. Just a suggestion! take care!

Hi everyone, I am new to this group and I just started my weight loss journey. I thought that by joining a group and hearing everyones stories may offer some encouragment. I am 26 and I am a mother of three. I have a 7 yr old boy, a 3 yr old girl and a 1 yr old boy. I work and go to school and take care of the homefront as well. I recently realized that I have been just letting my weight sky rocket and not really trying to stay healthy. I have come to the conclusion that I am not making anymore excusses for my unhealthy ways, and I am going to lose all the weight and get back to my old self! I currently weigh 228 lbs and I plan on losing 98lbs. I am currently on a low calorie diet of 1300 calories a day, and I have been trying to get in cardio when I can. Today my two youngest children and I went for a walk. We walked about aprox 1 1/2 miles. It was very difficult to push a double stroller up soooo many hills, but I kept telling myself that this a great work out! So I really look forward to getting to know you all! Have a good day everyone! :D

hello

Hello new group.  I am a mom of an 11 yr old girl.  It is so interesting watching her 'baby' fat disappear and see her body change into a young pre-teen so far.  I guess I dont want to be my beautiful daughters fat frumpy mom.

frustrated

posted by aflanagan on 1:39 pm

I'm so frustrated!  I'm a working mom and I have a gym membership but its so hard to get there and use it because I can only go when my husband is home to watch the kids.  Then, when I do have time, I feel guilty for going because I have already been away from the kids at work all day.  Any suggestions?

Just go for it! There are thousands of moms who would kill for a membership. And you're not just doing it for yourself - you're doing it for them, too! We all struggle with these thoughts, to one degree or another. But it's either feel bad at home because you're not looking after your health, or feel bad at the gym because you're worried about what the kids "might" think. If theyr'e anything like my kids, they will LOVE daddy time! :)

Yes, I agree go for it! You need to stay healthy for you and for your kids. Not only will it show them a good example but it will also help to keep you around longer!!! Daddy can handle things for an hour or two while you go sweat it out at the gym!
