So, I have a question, I have been working out to the FIRM, I don't know if any of you
have heard of it but I LOVE it! It really kicks my butt, but the more I do it, the easier
it is getting! Still takes my breath at times but I guess that things just seem easier
once you have figured out what they are doing with their feet, LOL!
Anyways, my question is, as far as exercise what would that be considered? Would it be
high impact aerobics? I use weights with it, but I wouldn't really call it weight
training. Some help maybe?
If you are using weights and also doing cardio, in other words, integrating the workout and doing them either together or one and than the other back to back, it would be circuit training. Circuit Training burns alot of calories. I have never seen the program, but that is what it sounds like. Is that what you are doing?
Edited by francikw, on May 22nd, 2008 at 12:14 pm.
Yes, well, you do squats and that while holding weights then you work arms and back and set them down and do some aerobic moves and then back to strength training with the weights.
if it's getting easier try heavier weights or more reps. your body gets used to doing the same thing and it becomes less effective.
Walked around the Woodland Park Zoo for 3 hours (about 1/2 of that carrying my 4 year old daughter on my shoulders so she could see the animals). 45 minutes on the Precor EFX at the interval setting and resistance 5.
Hi. I'm new to the group, too. Am a mom of 2, work from home and working on losing 10 more pounds (the same 10 pounds for the last 10 years or so :-)for a total of 20.
I'm a big Kathy Smith fan...I downloaded a few new workouts of hers from IAmplify.com that I really like. Did her Functionally Fit tape today.
Hi everyone, I am new to the group, have expiermented with the daily plate now for about 3 months and am finally ready to get serious about it. I am married with an 18 mo old son and work full time while my husband goes back to school for his masters. I have tried for the last year to get the 40+ pounds off that I gained while pregnant and every time I lose the weight, I turn around and gain the lost weight back plus more:/!!! I am very busy, have little time to go to the gym and live in the NW. I am here to get hints on how to get exercise in without having to spend time away from my family (I am already away enough at work)--and I am also here for support and encouragement as I make this journey to lose weight once and for all:)!!!
So I am in a competition at work for weight and I am in 2nd place right now, well I need
to lose some more weight! I weigh Wednesdays and I am up 1 lb today. Next wed. is the
final weigh in. The prize... approx. 400 dollars! So I am really motivated but need some
tips on losing some more! I hit a wall this week! Any advice???
Thanks!!!!
Hi Everyone. I'm new to the group and have a couple of questions. Do any of you use
jogging strollers? If so, what do you think of yours.
Do any of you use your strollers on the beach? I'm moving to Florida in a couple a weeks
and want to find a good stroller that I can use on the beach to get some exercise while my
son naps.
Thanks! ~~~Holly
I use my jogging stroller on occasions. It is very sturdy and great for walking fast. I think it would work great on the beach, but I do not have experience with this. Since the wheels are big like wheelchair wheels, I have taken it through our wooded paths on our farm and it worked better than any other stroller would have.
ok - so i'd like to pretend that i do really well with the diet all week, but i know the
truth is i do ok. however, last week - on thursday - i took a good hard look at my food
intake habits and found places where i could cut calories here and move them there to be
more realistic and still work toward my goal. i was really excited about the process and i
felt like new meal-caloric guidelines i set could really work.
then the weekend happened. unfortunately i bought a dozen cookies to take to a family
beach trip and i think i'm the only one who ate them. ALL. WHY did i buy them? to share of
course, but really because i wanted them. it pretty much went downhill after the
cookies...
so now it's monday and i can recommit and work really hard to keep my guidelines and goals
in check and work my off in the gym.
and then have a long weekend...
help? suggestions? words of wisdom?
lol.. that sounds like my weekend.. I do so well during the week (eat right and exercise) but as soon as friday night hits its like my diet goes down hill and eating everything that i wanted to eat during the week. Now its monday and I have to hit the gym extra hard to make up for my crazy weekend lol.
I totally understand!!! I went out with the girl's on Saturday night, away from the husband and kids. I ate and drank too much and am still feeling it 2 days later. It is easy to stay good through the week, but when the weekend comes, wow, it is hard.
Same here lol! I ate things I should not have eaten Fri AND Sat. Weekends are just so unstructured! Birthday parties, choral banquets, spring festivals, I still managed to lose 1 pound but I swear I don't know how!
Edited by LoriannePhillips, on May 19th, 2008 at 1:01 pm.
It is really hard on the weekend - I have found one thing that works really well for me when I know it is going to be one of "those" times. I try and "preplan" what I will eat for the day/event...that way I can have a budget idea. For example we went to a birthday party on Sunday. I knew it was going to be picnic type food and cupcakes. So...before going, I figured a rough guesstimate of my "plate" for the event (burger, bun, pasta/potato salad, cupcake, etc). That let me know what the event would "cost" me and I could add/subtract as needed once I got there. I was able to stay really close to my goal because I had put the effort in at the beginning. I also try and take two water bottles (the big ones) to the event and my goal is to drink them both before leaving...it keeps me from eating and I get my water in. Just some ideas with all of the birthdays/picnics/nights out/etc. It works for me.
I hope you all had a great weekend! please post the exercise that you have done today!
Well, I am relatively new to TDP and am trying to achieve some weight loss goals. I am
joining this group because I am a 36YO SAHM during the day and work evenings. When I
first started my lifestyle change, I had great results. Now - although my clothes are
fitting better, I can do my intervals on the eliptical and get my pulse back down quickly
- I am not losing any more weight. I am drinking about 12-16 glasses of water a day (I
read somewhere that you should drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day), but
still retain water like crazy. My big issue is my stomach as I can see my legs/butt/hips
fitting better in clothes (saggy butt and snug around the middle - sigh). I am still
motivated - I indulge, but in moderation. I don't starve myself - if I get really hungry
I try to have a healthy snack so I don't "binge".
I am getting exercise in the gym almost every day (cardio, abs, and some weights - I have
a really bad knee and have to be carful)/and at least around the neighborhood on the other
days. I am cooking a lot more trying new healthy recipes so my family doesn't just eat
chicken all the time...I am committed to my lifestyle change...I just can't seem to lose
weight!!!!! Comments/thoughts/etc are always welcome. I truly believe - Healthy
lifestyles=healthy moms.
Welcome! Alot of the reasons people will lose and than stop is they are still doing the same routine. You want to confuse your muscles and your metabolism. Instead of doing the elliptical, try something else. Do an aerobic class at the gym, low impact for your knee's sake. Walk on the treadmill or do the bike. Try to change your routine about every 3 to 4 weeks. Your body gets used to the same routine and just takes it as being normal. Switch it up a little and you will start to see results again. Hope this helps and good luck! Again, welcome!!
Down 2 lbs from 130 to 128. I also feel like my clothes are fitting better so I think I may have lost some inchage :0)

Super happy back into the 150's 159.8 to be exact. ( I am 5'8'' so 150's are a good thing for me) My goal is 148-144 I will decide when I am closer! But a short term goal was just getting down to 158 and I am almost there! I have lost 9 lb since I have started!! Tue will be my forth week doing! So happy!! Good Job everyone!!!!
I'm worried about my caloric intake, compared to outtake. It seems like my Calories for the day were way low...oh, wait I'm not counting the ice cream and cake, I was supposed to eat tonight, I guess I'll be baking that for my husband and daughter. It's like breaking up with your boyfriend after 20 years.
Your calories actually were good it looks like to me. Exercise is the key to losing weight. Burning off what you eat is important. Remember, moderation is important. Don't deprive yourself totally. That's when people end up falling off the wagon. And exercising on an empty stomach is a key point. You burn what you already have on, instead of the food you are still digesting. And for the coffee, I am with you. I still drink alot, only I use Splenda and Fat Free or Sugar Free creamer. You will get use to it. Good luck and have a great day!!
Just an addition... I did the Body For Life program several years ago, went from 206 lb. to 115 lb., and kept it off, by following some simple rules. Eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, balanced between protein and carbs. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. Exercise on an empty stomach which means not eating 1 to 2 hours before exercise. I'm not saying you shouldn't eat in the morning. Eat something with protein, which builds lean muscle, which in turn, burns fat. Protein actually gives you alot of energy and stays with you when you work out. Carbs don't. They make you hungrier. Also, your body processes lean proteins and carbs differently. Some carbohydrates, simple carbs, are processed into fat in your body, lean proteins feed the muscle. You will actually get hungrier, quicker, with carb consumption. Every other day, cardio; every other day, weight training. Don't eat alot before cardio, it will upset your stomach. Give your body some time to digest it in the morning. Hope this helps!!

I have always been told that it is good to eat before and after a workout. It gives you more energy if you eat something like a banana or plain oatmeal.
I understand your concern about calories, I try to be pretty diligent but I'm not really sure exactly how many calories a day I should be eating or what the fat/carbs percentage of those calories should be, anybody know how to figure it out accurately? I am not really concerned about how much I actually weigh, I am trying to build lean muscle and lose body fat, so I drink/eat a lot of protein during the day as well.
I am down 6.4 lbs since last week! I am not sure exactly how.. i didnt have a great
weekend, but I have been really strick on eating good!
Anyone else down this week?
Congratulations! I didn't do quite as well as you but I lost another 2lbs this week which makes 8lbs total in the last 6 weeks.
I have a full time job, 4 boys at home and finally one baby girl who just turned 9 months old. The weight just doesn't come off at 37 like it did at 23! I've joined a gym and I've been working with a trainer 1 day a week but exercising 5 days a week on my lunch hour for 5 1/2 weeks and so far I have lost 8lbs and I don't even know how many inches, I can finally fit back into pre-baby clothes but i'm not stopping there!
I'm not pregnant (tubes tied, checked, etc), but for years now, I've had an "enlarged"
uterus - my gyn said it is the size of a three month pregnant uterus. I was checked for
fibroids, cysts, etc - nothing.
So... why? Can I get it to shrink back down? Help?
Your abdominal wall is probably a little loose as well. Any kind of lower ab exercises will work, but will take some effort. When doing crunches, leg lifts, bicycles, in and outs make sure you are sucking and tightening your abdominal muscles as tight as you can, breathing out on exertion. Some people train their abdominal muscles to stick out by not doing this. You want to train them to tighten inward. This should increase the strength of the abdominal wall. Yoga may also be a good option. The breathing in yoga teaches you to keep your stomach sucked in during the poses.
Hope I helped a little. Good luck and have a great day!
Edited by francikw, on May 14th, 2008 at 12:38 pm.
Thanks - we do a LOT of lower ab work in kickboxing (been doing for a year) but its very slow going. I think I see a bit of tummy reduction, but nothing definite.
I've started trying to hold in the abs (kind of like doing kegels for the abs... *laugh*) randomly through out the day. Hopefully between the workouts and that, the belly will shrink a bit.
Tuesday - 50 minutes of high impact aerobic kickboxing followed by an hour of karate (ju jitsu) with warmup consisting of jumping jacks (60), crunches (150) and pushups (50) plus sustained (modified) pushups (10). I also walked to and from class - about a mile.
Wednesday - walked a mile to the playground/back.
Thursday - tonight will be walking to/from kickboxing (50m class) and then about 20-30m of karate.
Ok.. I have been working out for the pass two weeks 4 times a week. I walked 2 miles during my lunch break for the first week and I lose a pound. Now I increased my workout by using the eplitical for 35 mins on the weight loss mode, treadmill for 10 mins and abs for 10 mins. Increased my water intake and try to fit in 6 mini meals a days and I GAINED 3 POUNDS.. Why? someone please tell me why this happened I feel like I am going backwards and becoming less motivated.
I know that muscle weighs more than fat! Try measuring yourself and keeping track of inches instead of weight!
Alot of weight gain is water weight, for women especially. When you start working out heavily, you tear the muscle fiber, which is what you want to do, hence the "muscle soreness". You than slowly build up those fibers by continuing your workouts. Your muscles will hold water in the process and like lilmamvroom (above), muscle weighs more than fat and will be heavier at the beginning because of the fiber recruitment process. Don't get discouraged!!! Believe me, it will happen and when it does, you will be shocked at how fast it will come off. Remember also, don't keep the same workout consistantly. You want to confuse your muscles. Switch off and do something new about every 3 to 4 weeks. Keep it up, and you will see a change. It may take a month to see it, but it will happen!! Also, remember that your monthly makes you retain water, so that is also a factor. Good luck and keep it up!!

Hello All... I am new to the group. I am a mother of one who needs to lose 40 more pounds to reach my pre baby weight. During my pregnancy I ate everything that wasn’t nailed down and as a result I gained about 80 pounds. I lose 45 pounds of that shortly after my son was birth, but now it is difficult to lose the extra 40 pounds. Any suggestions on how to lose the weight would be very helpful. Thanks
Hi! I am new to this group as well. I am a new mother too - my son is 10 months old now. i gained only 30lbs during being prego - but only lost 20 after having him, and then seemed to gain probably 10 more back on. I have been working hard at eating good and excersising since the end of january and have lost 20lbs so far, my goal is 25 more - trying to get down to my highschool weight - which sometimes seems impossible... but im trying!! Anyone on here go to a class called Turbo Kick? thats my FAVORITE workout ever!!
Hello and welcome. I have only been here 2 weeks. I have 40 pounds to lose, too. Best wishes to you!
Hey Nyeshia! My daughter is 5 months and I have lost about 30 of the 50somehting that I put on. I know the last half of the weight is the hardest! I had some good advice a few weeks ago from a mommy who has lost it all! She started doing videos in the house.. (its hard to get out with a baby) and she really focused on portion control. She recommended I eat 5 meals a day, but smaller meals. They she joined a gym.. which i dont want to do, but the videos have been working for me.
I get lazy sometimes though, and when I do that, I try to clean, or do yard work or something around the house so that I am not just eating and sitting! Good luck. I am here if you need support or someone to talk to!
Ahh... My brain and will power got into a major conflict on Friday and my will power was
shot down!!
From a week before I joined TDP I started eating healthy and from the day I joined TDP I
added daily workouts to my eating healthy routine. I set a mini goal of 2.4 lbs by May
16th which would give me almost three weeks to loose 2.4 lbs. Reasonable so far right???
Well... I weight myself Friday morning and I have gained 3 lbs.
THREE!!! GAINED!!! so... being the reasonable person that I am, I lost it and gave
everything up!! All I did on the weekend and Friday was eat, eat, and then when I got some
time, I ate some more!!! Now, I have been able to get some sense back into me, and I'll
try again from tomorrow... but I'm afraid to even go near the scale :(
WHYYYYY?????
I know that because of my hypothyroid condition it is a lot harder for me to loose weight,
but I had no idea it would be this hard. I’m afraid if I don’t see any positive
results in the next couple of weeks I might just give up for good.
First of all the same thing happened to me! One of the reason was I was eating late at night. I had the calories to eat but its really bad for you to eat late at night b/c you can retain water weight which is what I did and you did also! B/c unless you eat 10,500 calories (which is what it would take to gain 3lbs) over your daily intake then there you go, but it sounds like you are on track. I stopped eating after 7pm (which is SUPER hard for me) and only drinking water. At least 4 glasses the next I had dropped 1 of my three pounds and the day after that I dropped 2 more. Now I have lost almost 7 lb in three weeks. You also need to make sure that you are eating enough. I talk to a trainer at my gym who gave me some tips.
1. DO NOT under eat b/c your body will go into starvation mode which is as bad as over eating
2. Cardio is not enough you need weights also
3. half a gallon of water a day
4. 3.2.1 portions 45% carb 35% protein 20% fat that should be your in take
I hope this helps!! Have a great don't give up it only hurts yo more! I try to stay between 1400-1500 calories a day!
Good Morning! I'm new to the group but I have been tracking on TDP for a few months. I don't see many older(45 this week) moms on the chats. My kids are 16 and 17 and I really haven't ever done things for just me. I need to eat better and I hope the accountability for the group will give me the push I need. I already go to the gym 4-5 times a week but foods are my problem. I have gone from obese to overweight on the BMI so that was a big yahoo moment for me.:)
I had a tense day yesterday. I wondered if anyone has suggestions for what they do on stressful days. I used to grab sugar & chocolate. I am trying to change! I was going to walk, but never got a chance with 4 kids and a sick husband at home. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
What ages are your children? My husband works nights so I don't have much chance for time for myself and what I do is bring the kids with me. I have a 6 year old (who keeps up surprisingly well) and a one year old who I put in the stroller! And actually I burn more calories by pushing the stroller so it's really a bonus!
With twins my life always seems stressful =) but one thing that helps me in those time is I have pre portion fruit baggies that are 100 calories that I grab or I drink water. It helps b/c I think it more the action then the food you put in to your mouth. I also started working out harder when stress that always seems to help me go harder. Just a few ideas good luck!
My girls are 13,8,5,18months. I live out in the country, so it is not safe to walk on the road with a stroller. We have land, and sometimes I walk around the farm with my toddler on my back, but it was wet and rainy yesterday. My husband took over the room with the treadmill. Thanks for the tips, ladies!
Hi Ladies,
Just thought I would share this little story in honor of Mother's Day.
Hope your day is super special!

Happy Mother's Day: Woman pregnant with 18th child
By JILL ZEMAN, Associated Press Writer Fri May 9, 5:25 PM ET
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - It's a happy Mother's Day for an Arkansas woman — she's pregnant
with her 18th child. Michelle Duggar, 41, is due on New Year's Day, and the latest
addition will join seven sisters and 10 brothers. There are two sets of twins.
"We've had three in January, three in December. Those two months are a busy time for us,"
she said, laughing.
The Duggars' oldest child, Josh, is 20, and the youngest, Jennifer, is nine months old.
The fast-growing family lives in Tontitown in northwest Arkansas in a 7,000-square-foot
home. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are home-schooled.
Duggar has been been pregnant for more than 11 years of her life, and the family is in the
process of filming another series for Discovery Health.
The new show looks at life inside the Duggar home, where chores — or "jurisdictions" —
are assigned to each child. One episode of the new show involves a "jurisdiction swap,"
where the boys do chores traditionally assigned to the girls, and vice versa, Duggar
said.
"The girls swapped jurisdictions, changing tires, working in the garages, mowing the
grass," she said. "The boys got to cook supper from start to finish, clean the bathrooms,"
among other chores.
Duggar said she's six weeks along and the pregnancy is going well. She and her husband,
Jim Bob Duggar, said they'll keep having children as long as God wills it.
"The success in a family is first off, a love for God, and secondly, treating each other
like you want to be treated," Jim Bob Duggar said. "Our goal is for each one of our
children to be best friends, and everybody working together to serve each other makes that
happen."
The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jennifer, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18;
Jill, 16; Jessa, 15; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 10; Jeremiah, 9;
Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 7; James, 6; Justin, 5; Jackson, 3; and Johannah, 2.

I am sure most of you have seen this before, but it is a good time of the year to dust it
off and take another look and have a good laugh.

For any of you who are separated from your mom for any reason, any mom's who have lost a
child, or anyone longing to have a child - I know this time of year can be difficult and I
am very sorry. I will be praying for you throughout the weekend.
CROSS POSTED
Hi everyone! I am new to TDP, and so far I love it! I love that I can see how much of my
diet is carbs and protein! I have to be honest when I first started a week ago my chart
had a LOT of fat and I have been able to get that under control! I am so excited!
I have 2 boys, Dalton who is 6 and Hunter who just turned 1. I had lost all my weight
from Dalton and was smaller than ever but when I got preggo with Hunter I gained over 60
lbs! I was at 160 when I got home from the hospital last April and am now at about 130!
Woo, Hoo! Almost there! I would like to lose another 15lbs and that is why I joined! I
also joined in hopes of learning to feed my family healthier foods! My hubby isn't so
thrilled but my kids are stoked!
Anyway! Nice to meet you all!
I just joined TDP 2 days ago and I'm LOVING IT! I'm so excited. I really think seeing my
food before me in this way is already setting me up for success. I've noticed I'm a pound
lighter already (I know it could be water weight but it's still makes me HAPPY!)
I have 2 little girls (Chloe/3 in June and Caitlyn/16 months). They're 18 months apart.
I love them but I'm not loving how this weight from having them hasn't come off so easily,
esp. the 2nd time. I still had 20 lbs left over from Chloe when I got pregs with Caitlyn,
so on came another 40! (I gained 60 with Chloe! A lot of frappucinos!)
My goal for right now is to lose 20-25 by September, which I think is doable. My ultimate
goal that I don't have a set time to achieve is to get to 125, a great number for my
height. I know it will happen, it's just starting that is the hardest! I'm SO happy to
have started and hope to have support here!
Welcome! I know how stubborn those pesky baby pounds can be, believe me :) I have 5 kiddos my youngest is just 20 mo old. I have lost 15 lbs in 2 mo and I am sure you can loose the 20-25 by Sept!
Good Luck, Jen
Hello everyone! I am new to the group and have been on TDP for about 2 months. I am a new
mommy of a beautiful 5 month baby girl. I gained about 50 lbs with her and I am hoping to
shed my baby weight and get even lower than my prebaby weight! Any advise on how to
excerise with a baby? I do a tae-bo tape and walk the neighborhood with her, but i get
board easily!
Thanks!
Hey! I am a mother of an 8 yr old boy and 11 month old twin boys. I do most of my workouts over my lunch break and right after work. I don't seem to get a lot done when I'm home with the babies because they are usually right at my feet. Some stuff you can do is strength training with your baby (lift her over your head, etc.) The babies usually think it fun. Good luck, I know how stubborn baby weight is. I gained 40 lbs with the twins and have 10 left to go plus another 10 of prebaby weight.

hello...
I seem to be running into this problem over and over, so I need some advice!
I'm happy eating 1600 cal a day with a very healthy choice of foods, I don't feel hungry
or overly full and I get all food categories. But on the days I work out I have to over
eat and I don't feel comfortable because I'm full and just forcing food down! So either I
have to skip the cals which I have been doing so far, or make high cal food choices which
aren't the healthiest choices. So... any suggestions?
i would look at the kinds of food your eating and maybe change that, rather than the quantity on workout days. it also depends on the kind of exercise you're doing. typically i need more protein on days i do weights/toning and more carbs on days i do cardio/aerobics. my body usually tells me what kind of food i need by what sounds really good- a big piece of grilled chicken or a baked potato or bread.
are you sure you need to eat more on work out days? you dont *have* to, and maybe your body is telling you you dont need to. (i know by getting headaches that i need more something.)
One of the forum moderators - Ceri - has a nice list on her profile with a bunch of calorie dense food. Basically they are healthy food choices that won't physically fill you up, but they do provide you with a bunch of calories.
http://www.thedailyplate.com/users/profile/ceri
Fruit juice, nuts, seeds, natural peanut butter, protein shakes, etc.
There are times when I want the quantity - particularly now. My weight loss has stalled and I am fairly certain its because I upped my exercise routine, but never upped my calories to provide me with the extra energy. I was netting fairly low for the past week or so. The calorie dense foods have come in handy as I work on raising my calorie level. Lots of calories in a tiny, healthy package.
Thank you both for you advice and comments. I think it's a great idea to listen to my body and if it's telling me no more food then I will not eat no matter how much I have to eat to reach my calorie goal. I'm just affraid that if I get too little calories my body will go crazy again as it does on most low cal diets I have been on. If I don't start seeing results soon, I'll try to go with some of choices mentioned for high cals in a healthy package :)
What is the best way to not have water weight issues? My body loves to retain water. Any suggestion? I try to cut down on salts and I am making a commitment not to eat after 7pm since I love to eat at night. That is my favorite binge time of all!! But for instance I was doing great and I got on the scale and in 1 day I went 3lbs which is impossible since I didn't eat an additional 10,500 cal. I know it is water. Should I drink even more water?
Hi everyone,
I did a little research about regulating blood sugar levels through dieting because I felt
like absolute s#@% for a few weeks, which really cramped my style! I was dragging so much
so that it seemed as if the high light of my entire morning was making my bed, and when
the last pillow was placed on it, the countdown would begin. How sad is that?
What I discovered is that the quality of many of the carbohydrates in my diet were not so
good, so I kissed many of them goodbye, my diet has much more substance and I feel so much
better now. I am going to share some info that a nutrition expert shared with
me....wow....what a difference good carbs make! :)
Enjoy -

Seven Keys to Success
1) Eating every 3-4 hours and having 5-6 small meals/snacks per day
2) Eating protein and/or fat with carbs at meals and snacks
3) Choosing high fiber carbs and not white flour carbs. Aim for at least 25 grams of fiber
daily.
4) Making sure that you have 2-4 ounces of protein at lunch and dinner
5) Don't cut your fat intake too low. Choose at least 1-2 servings of healthy fats, like
nuts, seeds, fish, avocado, and olive oil daily.
6) Make sure you're eating 2-3 fruit servings each day.
7) Make sure you're eating at least 3 servings of vegetables each day.
Great list and tips!
My diet is all about choosing low-glycemic/healthy carbs. My body responds extremely well to this type of diet. Diabetes runs in our family, so this kind of eating is essential to keep me out of the danger zone.
Not only that, but it diminished my cravings considerably.
By the way, I loved the book "Healthy for Life" by Ray Strand - some great info about blood sugar levels and our diet...the book also includes nearly everything you put in your post. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jenflower,
I have a voracious appetite for reading, so thank you for that book suggestion. You are so wise for being proactive with your diet. Now that I allow myself to view the unhealthy carbs for what they are, I realize there is no point in using such low grade fuel in this engine.
HIGH TEST all the way!**
Best wishes -
Jenne
(**Except of course when filling up my car with gas at a whopping $3.83 per gallon!)
Ok, so after a HORRIBLE week last week (Aunt Flo + eating out ugh) I wasn't shocked this
past Sat. when I had no weight loss. I was just happy I didn't gain. I thought I had a
horrible week ahead of me again this week but I feel great and when I weighed this morning
I was down 3 lbs from just this past Sat.
I am now at 142!! Yeah, I'm at a 15 lb lost now and am so happy and feel great. Only 12
lbs from my first goal of 130! It feels so great to shed these "baby lbs" The strangest
thing is, is that I am shedding the pounds like crazy this week and exercising less than
ever. Go figure, I guess that just goes to show your body will do what it wants when it
wants too ;)
Have a Great Day girls~
Jen
Just curious to know what everyone has planned for Mother's Day and if your going to use that day as a "cheat day" I know I am. Olive Garden here I come haha.
I don't think I'll be doing much!! My son is only 11mths old so if anything is going to happen it would be me taking my moms (mom and in-law) out for something!
Can't wait 'till my son is old enough so I can have a real mothers day with him :) hehehe
On Saturday, I plan on scrapbooking all day. Then Sunday, I'm going to a brunch with my side of the family and then dinner with my husband's side of the family. Boy, looks like I'm gonna have to do some cardio to make up for all the eating! Maybe I can slip in a massage, facial, pedicure...
I'm sure my hubby has something planned with FOOD lol but having such a horrible week "eating out" last week I don't know. MMM, Olive Garden. We went there last week during my blow it week and it was sooo good. Just don't do what I did and blow it on the Tour Of Italy LOL 2000 cals!!! Ok, I only ate HALF of it though ;)
Okay so I am at my two week mark and I have done great! I have dropped a little over 4 pounds and a total of 6 inches! I am going to the gym 4 times a week ( it has become my happy place with free child care) But today when I woke up I just wanted to eat... Like everything I didn't want to record my calories I wanted to snack and eat whatever today ( and probably every other day also) I didn't at least not yet! But any suggestions? How to deal with the missing on yummy fating foods?? When does it get easier?
Great progress so far! That's so awesome. :)
And, yes - I have had days when I just wanted to eat everything. Honestly, though, after almost 4 months of this, those days are very few and far between. Does everyone else experience this after months of their new eating/exercise routine? It took me about 6-8 weeks or so to finally start noticing that, I think.
Today was actually one of those 'gotta eat' days for me. So, I decided to turn it into an impromptu 'cheat day' since I hadn't had one for a while. It was pretty good - a little too many carbs, though...they are my weakness! Oh well.
But, I honestly don't have the cravings I used to. For me, it came down to leveling my sugar levels with low glycemic food choices. When my blood sugar stays regulated, I just don't have those old cravings. Others might find that drinking more water or more exercise helps them, I guess.
I also have a bunch of new 'snacks' that fit into my diet and don't make me feel like I am restricting myself. A small piece of dark chocolate nearly every night, really yummy smoothies with flax seed, skim milk and fresh fruit, cottage cheese with vanilla and cinnamon, shredded apple and peanut butter in a low-cal wrap...they are my new cravings now and I can eat them without guilt.
Hang in there...and keep it up!
