Hey all. Adding up my calories for the day, I realized I was going to be over by a couple of dozen calories (no, I can't see the future, I just know what we're having for dinner tonight - Vegetable Chili Con Carne). So... I'm going to take the long walk home which is 2.5 miles rather than the normal 2.0 mile route. That should be JUST enough to even things out and keep me under my targeted net cals for the day. It's that or give up my glass of wine for the night. And, that I'm not doing.
I added up my miles tonite...went back to work this morning, that 5:15 am felt like the middle of the night.. I did 3 miles on the treadmill before work, and managed a 4 mile hike after work. I NEVER would do this by myself. Thank you all. With my afternoon miles added in, I am the only one who has gained weight this month..., and attained goal. 113 miles today. I really cannot believe it. Glenda. Thank you, Marco, Thank you, Tony, Thank you, Mrsshady, Thank you. Let the numbers roll in. March awaits, and I would like to commit to loosing weight. I am not yet doing a happy dance. A s l o w smile is more like it. I think I am in shock. thank you, everyone. wynne
Wynne 113 miles is so great. As of today I am only at 95 miles, but am confident that I can finish the last 5 miles in the next two days. Now about that weight you want to lose. Are you logging into the MyPlate section of this website and tracking everything you eat? If not, start there. I do it after every meal. And if there is something I would be ashamed to write down, like a bag full of Fritos, I just don't eat them. If staying within a range of calories, where you will start losing weight is still not working, you may have to resort to a structured weight loss program. You have really mastered the exercise part of this, not lets get that eating under control. What's your plan Wynne? Glenda

You continue to ROCK!! mrsshady! We are so proud of YOU!! Glenda, I posted everyone's state by my treadmill, too! Huge elevation in that mountain range! So, all, instead of ignoring the weather report for the country and just wishing the reporter would say what my weather will be... I am now checking weather from PA to Idaho to New Mexico! Marco is covered as I know what Manhattan weather is!!! Enjoy your weekend everybody!! Wynne

Completed Day 1 Week 2 of the C25K program today. I should have done it a week ago but I was taking advantage of the nice weather last week and just taking nice long walks/jogs with my little man :) Completed 2.7 miles in 33.5 minutes-including warm up and cool down so I was pretty happy with my pace. I even ran at 7 mph for 30 seconds! Did some body weight exercises and stair climbs with my son plus a short walk outside with him. The scale showed a loss of 0.4 pounds- almost 2 sticks of butter! I a pleased with the way I have been eating and cooking the last few days- more fruits and veggies plus high fiber and high protein foods like black beans (rinsed of course). I am having more energy too since I gave up baked sweets for Lent. I would like to cut back on the chocolate as well, perhaps only allowing myself one or two pieces a week. I wll keep you all posted on that goal. It is bedtime for my baby boy so we are headed up for some bedtime stories, songs, prayers and cuddling. Have a great night everyone!
Mrs. Shady, you are doing so well. The scale went down..Hallelujah! I know how frustrating it is when you try so hard and the scale doesn't budge. I'm gald to hear that you are changing up your diet a bit. You know if you melt a little chocolate and just swirl some of it over strawberry (not dipped), you will have the best of both worlds, fruit for dessert and a little chocolate to satisfy a craving. I like to hear about the way you put your baby to sleep. He's a lucky little boy! Good Night Moon! Glenda
Hey all. Well, my wife's pizza came out great. In fact,... perhaps just a little too good since I ended up over indulging. *sigh* Oh well. So, I put in 6 miles walking and 60 minutes with weights today as pennance (and, of course, to try to work off those extra calories). Thank goodness for weekends! I like the idea of keeping track of one another by state. I'm in southwest Idaho. Weather here today is cold and even snowy, which hardly seems fair given that this past week was up around the low 50s. Thanks for all the great news, everyone. It's nice to see everyone making progress and sharing encouragement.
Fed the outside birds... gone is the glorious spring weather... brrr... roads are clear,
just frozen slush. Just reread everybody's postings, and smilied AGAIN. Marco, you lost 6
pounds???? I am so happy for you! and we have a new poster... Susan, welcome, we have
become a driven group! I smiled when I read that Glenda has posted our states near her
treadmill, funny, I think of all of you as well, and wonder how your weather is! I have
found that I am quite ignorant of New Mexico's climate! I cannot imagine doing that many
miles on a bike, and I am amazed. I think I would have bruises here to Kingdom come!
Getting on the treadmill in a few minutes. Oh, wondering how Tony's wife's pizza came
out... I want to thank you all for your support with my hiking and my dinner!! Thoughts
for today....
1. The dawning of each morn is an opportunity for me (us) to smile and choose a healthy
start
2. I want to choose food as decicious fuel, enjoying it, NOT as a coping mechanism that
gets ignited by some subconscious disturbing thought or event
3. Understanding that overeating is not driven by being hungry, but learned through
pattern recognition....Gotta override the patterns that have been self made .
Enjoy your weekend
everyone!!! wynne
Wynne, loved reading your thoughtful post. New Mexico (as you know) is just south of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Range runs through the northeast area of New Mexico. In addition, the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) mountain range runs through the middle part of New Mexcio. I live at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. There are ski areas all along the range so we get a lot of snow, but not as much as Colorado. As you go further south, you will end up in more desert like terrain, similar to AZ. The most important thing to know about New Mexico is that we have sun shine filled days over 300 days per year. Today I hiked with a friend and it was 17 degrees outside. Once the sun comes up the tempature went to 42 degrees. So the northern part of NM is mountainous and the southern part is dessert. I live in the mountainous part of it, I could never live somewhere where there are no mountians to hike.
Wynne- I also enjoyed reading your "thoughts for today"! I also am working on using food as fuel AND enjoyment but realizing that I must make the most of those calories that I am consuming.
Glenda- I was born and lived in South Eastern Colorado (about 50 miles from Pueblo) for the first 8 years of my life and now live in Central PA in a beautiful and lush valley surrounded by small mountains. I appreciate both climates but I must say that I am a bit jealous of all that sun you are getting in NM :)
Thanks for the welcome and for the thoughts Wynne!
I need the encouragement! I haven't shared or set my weight goal yet but when I began this journey I weighed in at 265.5, At my last Dr. Apt. I weighed in at 242.4, I am trying for 237.4 by my next visit which is March 12th. If things continue on the path they are on it may be even lower than that though! I have enjoyed everyones post, and love getting on here and reading about the different ways we all work out and eat....Its been a blessing to me to have others to reach out to. BTW I live in eastern Kentucky, Our weather has been all over the place this year we have had a very mild winter, but Feb. has seen 70 degree weather and 20 degree weather so I have done the majority of my workouts in the Gym. Blessings to you all, and does anyone have any tips for vacation? I am leaving the 3rd for Florida and I surely don't want to blow my whole month in one week of fun and food!!! Blessings, Susan

Glenda, FLOWERS??!! Everyone, I loved reading your posts tonite... look how far we have come. About my dinner, it got delayed as everyone brought mucho horsdoerves that needed to be COOKED. (I asked for none!) I don't have a double oven... So, I just let it go, we ate dinner later, the pork was overdone, the veggies and potatoes under... yet, a good time was had. AND, my house is SPOTLESS!!! I ate too much. Back to better eating today. Treadmilled 4 miles.. Why you may ask? Wet snow after this week's warm glorious weather...Most of all, I really enjoyed reading all of your missives! Enjoy your weekend! Tony, how was that pizza??? Marco, take good care.... Glenda, how "vonderbar!" and mrsshady, glad you are feeling better..... wynne
Well, I am getting there....72 miles in 28 to go. I started counting on the 6th of Feb. Should I stop on Feb. 29th or Do I count until the 6th of March? My scales finally moved!!! I was in panic mode there for a while, but If my scales match the Drs scales I should be down at least 5 pounds possibly more by the time I go back on March 13th. Love all your great stories this week!! So proud of all of you! Blessings to you all! Susan
Susan, while I can't speak for the others, I'd give yourself 30 full days to get the hundred miles you need. Unless, that is, you just want to start at the beginning of the month to give yourself an easy start and end date. Congrats on getting the scales to move in the right direction. That's always SO satisfying. Tony
Been saving up all day for my wife's pizza. She makes AMAZING homemade pizza. Tonight she's putting together one with Gorganzolla and Rosemary. It's not low cal, so I went over to the gym and put in my deposit on the meal with a 600 calorie workout (added 3 more miles to my weekly total!). Even with that, I'll likely only be able to "afford" about one and a half slices but man, is it worth it. Hope all's well with everyone. Tony
Yum! Does your wife make homemade crust...if so would she share the recipe? I try and make crust but it is not special. I liked that you planned ahead and worked out before dinner. Eat slowly and savor your 1 -1/2 slices. I forgot that you were having trouble with your achilles. Does resting it help? We all have to be careful not to hurt ourselves while exercises...it just sets us back.
My husband said that he is so proud of me for getting up early every morning and walking and that he has noticed that I have lost weight. That in itself is a nice gift...the flowers sent me over the moon. My man does not bring flowers on a regular basis, so it's pretty special when I get them. So far this month I have walked 85.6 miles and just have 14.4 miles to knock out. I told you I started the Flat Belly Diet, well yesterday I finished the 4-day diet that restricts calories to around 1,200 - 1,400 calories. I lost a total of 5 pounds and feel very good. Today I start the next phase which is 28 days of four-400 calorie meals, for a total of 1,600 calories per day, which is typically what I eat on a daily basis. This morning I weighed 147.8...I am just 2.8 pounds from my second goal wieght (my third phase goal weight is 135.0). I am so happy for all the support I have received from you guys. Keep up the good work, it is worth it.
Hey all:
Sorry I didn't write the last 2 days, I took the one day off from cycling to rest my hip
which seems to be much improved. The following day (thursday for those of you keeping
track). I got on the bike and did 7.6 miles in 35 minutes then yesterday I got on the bike
and did 6.8 miles in 30 minutes. I also managed to lose 6lbs in the month that I've been
doing this challenge. I plan on getting on the bike tonight and going for another 30
minutes and see what my grand total is going to be, then the plan is to take that total
and use that as motivation to beat for the next 30 days after I take this weekend off as a
reward to myself :).
I'm glad to see that everyone is moving forward with the challenge and I'm glad to hear
about your getting under 150 Glenda! :) The last time I was 150 I think i was 15 or
something like that. (what I'm stocky for a 5'6 dude). My goal is to knock off another
29lbs at the least. It took me a year to get under 200lbs (currently 199) and I find it to
be a little daunting, mainly because I've gotten impatient in my old age. But I'm hoping
that biking will be my savior as it was for me 14 years ago when I wanted to get back in
shape back then. Like most people I've struggled with weight loss and gain most of my
life, partly due to bad eating habits and partly for having a don't give a damn attitude.
I'm glad I have you all that are in the same kind of boat I'm in to give me the support I
need to stay motivated so thank you all once again. I'll probably post my grand total
tonight.
Thanks again from your buddy in BROOKLYN New Yawk (not a typo lol)
Marco :)
Yahoo Marco! First of all, I am happy that the hip is healing well by just resting it and that it wasn't damaged. Secondly, you are a biking animal...116 miles is so good. In addition, I love the idea of beating your grand total each month. I may borrow that idea from you. Isn't it exciting loosing 6 pounds just by moving your body more then usual. Now let's talk about being under 200 pounds, that has to make you want to strut in front of the mirror with your shirt off.
Don't get impatient, take it from me, "you have to stay the course", a wise man (that would be you Marco) said that to me a few weeks ago. I wrote it on a post it note and stuck it next to my treadmill. I see the note every morning and it reminds me that my buddies in New Yawk, PA, and Conneticut are working hard to reach there goals too. It makes me feel less alone on this journey. So 29 pounds to go to reach your goal of 170.0 pounds. Spell it out for yourself and us what your plan is to take off the last 29 pounds. Sometimes creating a plan and seeing it in writing is helpful. It is for me. Good luck! I am so proud of you. Glenda
Excellent, Marco. My sis-in-law lives in Manhattan and my father in law is from Brooklyn. He lives in Lincoln Harbor, now, across the river on the Jersey side. Smart move to rest the hip if it was giving you trouble. I need to give my achilles a rest this weekend. And congrats on losing the six pounds. Like you, I've struggled against a "don't give a damn" attitude.

Well, this is the dinner I have been prepping for all week. Last nite I butterflied the
pork roast and stuffed it with a prune, apricot apple and onion stuffing that had been
simmered in port. My son, Zack, insisted I not garlic it, but being Hungarian, I just
stuffed in a bit. It has this crust topping. I have to make a gravy with port, I hope
this comes out well! I also started the potatoes last nite. (both recipes had to be put
together the nite before and rest) I had these potatoes at my cousin's. ( I am going to
gain the pounds lost by Glenda and Tony!) Oreida hash browns, sauteed with lots of onion,
salt, pepper, paprika, cheddar cheese and half and half. All I have to do today is get the
roasted root vegetables ready. The table is set all is nearly ready. I confess I bought
dessert instead of making it. I have the hordoerves ready.
What set me off and made me over eat yesterday, again was stress. My husband decided to
paint the hallway bathroom, and what was supposed to take a day, took 2, and then my son,
Zack, who is home temporarily- so I hope, decided to paint his room. Of course there was
yelling and drama. This is where I falter. I did go for a 5 mile hike, and my hiking
partners said, "Maybe this is too much for you," which pinched. I just have trouble
getting up that hill to my car. Everytime. But I think of Marco on the bike, Tony at the
gym, mrsshady with her energy, and of course Glenda, which is why I am not giviing. up. I
will let you know how it all goes.... 85 miles total this month so far and 3 pounds UP!
Wynne
Your dinner sounds fabulous, I wish I was one of your guests. I hope they all know how lucky they are to have dinner at your table. Stress is the "devil" when it comes to staying on track with food. It's hard to eliminate stress, especially when it lives with you. : ) I like that fact that you are hiking 5 miles! Yahoo! Why did your hiking buddy think it was too much for you? I am so proud that you get out there and hike and by the way 5 miles is impressive. I hike with 5 different people, that way I have someone to hike with everyday of the week. One of friends is heavy-set and walks slower, one is recovering from cancer and can't hike the steep side of the mountain yet so we have to hike an easier trail, one needs hip-replacement surgery so she's slower and likes to hike the easier trail, one out hikes me and makes me feel like the weak link, and one hikes with dogs on leashes and they are always stopping. My point? I adjust to every situation because, it is more important to me that they get out and hike, then that they are holding me back (with the exception of the one the hikes fast) from the hikes I want to do. Your hiking buddy should not have hurt your feelings.
Oh my that dinner sounds FABULOUS! That 5 mile hike- no matter how long it takes you- is something to be proud of!
Hey Wynne that dinner sounds too fabulous I almost ate my computer monitor reading about it LOL. Tell your hiking buddy that I said "shut your yap and know your role!". Those sort of comments get my new yorker blood boiling. While I'm sure your hiking buddy was only saying that because they may have been concerned that you might be overwhelmed by the hike he or she should keep their concern to themselves. I hope you crushed that 5 mile hike and even if you didn't you should be proud of yourself for making it. Look at it as another hill to dominate even if you didn't dominate it the first time, if you keep at it eventually you will!
I can understand the stress knocking you for a loop, I too am guilty of eating not because I'm hungry but because I'm stressed about something (usually work related). The only thing I can say is that instead of using the stress as an excuse to eat turn around and go take a fast walk outside and get the anger or stress out. Use it as motivation to pummel a few miles off for the month. Take the negative and make it into a positive (gosh I sound like a sunday morning infomercial). Anyway I hope to hear how it went soon!
Your buddy,
Marco :)

Today, I finally have gotten into the 140's. This morning I was 149.8 and let me tell you that's good enough for me to brag about even though I am just barely under 150. I have not been below 150 since 2007. I am half way to my weight loss goal of 30.6 pounds. I have lost 15.8 pounds so far and want to lose another 14.8 pounds. So far this month I have walked 77.28 miles. I feel confident that I can accomplish the 100 mile goal this month. I lost and regained weight all month long and felt discouraged. The two things I did differently this week, was start the Flat Belly Diet and shake up my walking routine by doing intervals of fast walking with regular walking in the treadmill. I've only lost 3.4 pounds this month, a far cry from January when I lost 12.4 pounds. I really felt like giving up a few weeks ago and I would have had I been alone on this journey. Thank you one and all for walking, hiking, bike riding, dancing and exercising along with me. You are needed and so appreciated by me. Now let's see that Happy Dance...everyone except Marco, since you hurt your hip you can just wave your arms around. (Seriously, I hope you are feeling better, Marco.)
GLENDA, I AM SCREAMING, I am so HAPPY for YOU!!!! You have been such an encourager and a motivator to me and all of us!! I am beyond the Happy Dance!! YES!!!!!!!! I think Marco can "shake a leg!!" LOL's, (gosh, I hope you do feel better, Marco!!) and Tony has also lost weight! I am so proud of you both. I am so thrilled for you! I think mrs shady gets a shout out, too....Glenda, just think.... you were down, we were cheering for you.... Blessings BE!!!!! YOU DID IT!! Woo Hoo! I am smiling so big time... Good NIte, my 911 squad... I am so proud to know you. (well, sort of!!!) Thank goodness for all of you! Nite, Wynne
So Sorry about your pain, Marco. Like everyone else said, be careful. It took me a while to get rid of my hamstring problem. I hope you feel better everyday. Take good care of yourself. I am thinking, congratulations to everyone who has maintained and not gained weight, and those who lost poundag!!! Not gaining is great, too.. I finally have been eating better, and am encouraged. I am starting to see how to feel better, and what to do about it. I honestly believe it is this committment to this challenge, and my joy talking to all of you. It keeps me aware, honest and treadmilling/hiking. Expecially when I think to skip. I think of all of you, (remember a tidbit of something one of you have said to me or to one of us) working so hard, and checking in. I really look forward to each day to see what all of you are up to. The sun is up and shining away... I am hoping for warmer weather for us all. Have a terrific day, everyone, FORGE ON in SOME WAY!!!! Wynne

So I took 4 days off because my legs were shot to hell and needed a rest. So after the
four days I felt good enough to get on the bike and pedal like a looney tune. I managed to
knock off 11 miles in 47 minutes yesterday, but I noticed a slight twinge/cramp in my
right hip while I was pedaling. I ignored the cramp and pushed through only to wake up
today with a rather annoying pain in the hip/ hip flexor area (hip flexor is a small
muscle just above the hip that helps you sit all the way for those of you who don't know.)
So I'm going to bench myself for a day from getting on the bike. I hope to have the pain
go away cause that last 4 tenths of a mile I have left before I hit 100 miles is mocking
the heck out of me.
I'm glad to hear your pushing yourself on your hikes/walks Glenda its the best way to go
to get out of a rut. Just keep in mind the difference between pushing yourself and
injurying yourself, which I apparently did not grrr. Anyway I'm glad to hear that everyone
is still pushing forward with the exercising etc. Keep up the good work.
Oh Marco, that is such sad news! I hope resting your hip will the only thing you have to do in order to heal this injury. Keep us posted. You will be able to knock out that last 0.4 miles this month, you still have 8 days to go. Thanks for the second piece of advice, "push but don't injure yourself". Everybody take care not to get hurt.
Mrsshady burned SO MANY CALORIES last weekend, she must be Superwoman!! WOWZA!! Blessings Wynne
27.7 miles last week. Lost just over 2 lbs. Not bad considering we went out for dinner twice last week, once for my daughters birthday, and once to try a new restaurant. Very unusual for us; we usually don't eat out more than once every couple of months. Still, it was nice not to have dishes to do. Whoever doesn't cook the meal at our house does the dishes (which seems fair) but since I often don't get home until after 6pm, that usually puts me in the cleaning role. Which is too bad (because I love to cook) and fortunate (because being around cooking food when I'm hungry can lead to nibbling). Okay, time to get ready to walk to work. Hope you're all doing well. T
Mrsshady, my father would have been so impressed! Every 4th of July he would roast a pig, and the "manly men" lol's would stay up most of the night before roasting it, (and drinking shots) until they conked out. Was that it? Like Glenda, I am very impressed with your exercise! I think I need Geritol!! (sp) Glenda! Because of you and Marco, I pushed myself to go 4.0 yesterday. Using my "hamstring" as an excuse (!!!) it is much better now... I could,'t keep it up long, plus I get tired. I will be yikes, 55 in March Where is my energy?? . Yes, the women from lunch are coming on Thursday for dinner, I have been in a cleaning frenzy. They are a wild group, many youngens... so I have planned a sit down dinner for 9. The funniestt of the bunch is Mr. K, our Guidance Counselor. He is off golfing this week someplace warm... I look forward to telling you all how it goes... Going into work today to feed our rabbit, "Peanut." I will say hi to him for you, Tony! Hope it is much warmer in Pa and New Mexico! Blessings, Wynne
I have helped my husband and brother in law do quite a few pig roasts like the one you are describing, Wynne. We actually did a full butchering this time though- skinned the pigs, cut them into hams, bacons, ribs, loin chops, roasts, etc, then deboned alot of it and ground it up for sausage. We also made scrapple (panhaus) and liverwurst, plus cracklins. Lots of fun plus we will have pork in our freezer until next year.
Great job on pushing yourself! I have been trying to beat my time on each walk I do outside and even if I only beat it by a few seconds it is a great feeling!
Wynne...4.0 mph...that's great! I tried to do intervals today, only did 3 (2 minute's at 4.2 mph) instead of 7. My mom called while I was on the treadmill, so I slowed it down and talked to her while I walked. Never to busy too talk to my mother or daughters. My legs are a little sore from Monday's workout. I may do interval walking every other day until I get used to it. After all, us girls in our 50's aren't as strong as we used to be! Oh yah and roast pig, pork chops, sausage...I was sad that Mrs Shady stopped typing so soon. Surely there are more "pig" foods.

We butchered this weekend so it was pretty busy and hectic. I got a decent workout in
though lifting slabs of meat, mixing 50+ lbs of sausage by hand, making many trips back
and forth from the house to the garage (approximately 3 miles worth!) plus all the toting
of food and items and playing with my little man.
Sunday I walked (with a few jogging intervals) with my little man for 4 miles in 54
minutes :)
Today I walked for 3/4 mile this morning then another 4 miles this afternoon with my son-
53 minutes this time! I made homemade bread today so my arms got a major workout while
kneading! Still going to do some pushups and crunches and planks tonight to make it a nice
even 75 minutes for the day.
I will have to calculate my mileage and minutes to go and post tomorrow. Have a great
night friends! :)
I am impressed to the point of being speechless about all the exercise. But extremely interested in the fact that you butchered (sounds like a pig) this weekend. Wow! I thought you were a city girl! How's your weight coming along? I can't remember if you plateaued or not.
Oh my no, I am definitely not a city girl
Very, very country. We did indeed butcher two pigs- which happen to be my favorite farm animal so I don't get involved until after they are already dead. I checked my weight this morning and I am finally going back down. I had gotten back up to 149.9 (
) on Feb 16th- too much salt and sugar and not enough exercise but I am 147.3 today. So a loss of .4 pounds from last Tuesday but this is the weight I was at on Feb 3 so I am a bit frustrated with my progress!
I am feeling your pain. Just keep going...like I've said before this is usally the point were I quit and give up altogether. Let's push through bad scale moments. I really do want to walk at least 100 miles for the entire year. Can you imagine where we'll be if do this for 12 months? I started the Flat Belly Diet yesterday. It's 4 days of a strict 1,200 diet (which is not impossible to do) and then 28 days of 1,600 calories. I will let you know how it goes. I am 151.0 today and despartely want to be in the 140's. I am happy that you are 147.3, I hope to join you.
I am taking Marco's advice to push myself a bit more on my workouts. Today, I walked at 3.4 mph for 8 minutes then 4.2 mph for 2 minutes, for a total of 7 intervals or 70 minutes. It had my heart pounding. Since pushing myself today, I feel really good and since it did not kill me, I will keep it up. Thanks for the advice Marco.
Hi Wynne, MrsShaddy, Tony, Marco, Susan, Lavonnes and any newbies that I might of left out. I haven't posted since Friday morning. You're not going to believe it, but I missed all you guys! Had a lovely time in Albuquerque celebrating my daughters 26th birthday. Over ate both Friday and Saturday. Monday morning the Scale God's punished me for my over indulgence. Today I started the Flat Belly Diet from the editors at Prevention Magazine. Since the scale has been unkind to me this month, I have decided to shake things up by following a program. I like the freedom of choosing what I am going to eat each and every day, but for the next 32 days I am going to try out this diet. I will let you know the results. Keep up the good work everybody, your miles are all really impressive. I am jealous that some of you are experiencing spring-like weather. It snowed 4 - 5 inches last night and it was 15 degrees this morning.
Glenda, I was mistaken on my mile count. I was behind. I meant to tell you... Okay, everyone, laugh. I counted wrong! Wishful thinking??? Marco, you have made it... Good Deal! Glenda, how was your daughter's birthday party? Here it is, before I exercise today, ( I have to clean today) I have logged 72 miles. Twenty eight to go before March 1st. I am experiencing a little "performance anxiety" LOL's... Come on, US!!! To the finish line we forge on!!! I put out bird food even though Gemma (named after actrress Katie Segal in Sons of Anarchy) did a "badddd kitty thing..." Blessings to all..... Miss hearing from you! Wynne
Wynne, you got me beat so far this month...I have only walked 61.5 miles. I am confident that I can walk the entire 100 miles. Had a fabulous time celebrating my youngest daughters 26th birthday, thank you for asking.
Glenda, YOU went 4.2??? GOOD for you! I am only 5'2, and for some reason, it kills me to go 4.0, which I used to be able to do. So now I am a hangin between 3.7, 3.8. Short legs!!! I am impressed!! I am really glad you had a great time with your daughter for her birthday. ! I am having my Lunch Bunch for dinner on Thursday. If Marco and Tony and Mrsshady read this.... the last lunch bunch dinner, I left early, and THAT WAS A GOOD THING! People were out of control... My plan is to serve DINNER and not let anyone leave in not a good condition. Let me know how the diet works for you. Will be looking for to hearing. 15 degrees? Brrrr.... Oh no. Have been cleaning.... take good care everybody! Keep GOING! Wynne
Wynne, you are so cute. I can't wait to hear how the brunch goes and if you have to cut people off from getting out of control. I am assuming you mean people are drinking at these parties. I did walk 4.2 miles, but for only 2 minutes. It nearly killed me...just kidding. It was quite challenging. My legs are sore tonight. But, I thought I would take Marco's advice and push myself a bit more. I guess I get lazy.

The Great one (that would be me) did it! 9.0 miles in 35minutes see epic story below!
posted by Archangel2029 on 9:07 pm
Hey all:
So I was on a mission tonight, I absolutely flew on the bike riding as fast as 17.5 miles per hour for the first three minutes on the bike. Then I came back down to earth a little by dropping down to 15.9-14.9 miles per hour for the next 20 minutes. At the 15 minute mark I hit a wall pretty hard (figurtively speaking and dropped down to 13 miles an hour or so. By the time I got to around 10 minutes my right calf started cramping on the downward stroke pointing my toes to the floor and coming back up. But I kept on going even though a part of my brain said "hey stupid your seriously going to do something bad here". When I got to 5 minutes left I was up to 8 miles down and one to go, however my left calf muscle was starting to cramp up to, but I gritted my teeth and pushed hard getting up 14.5 miles an hour and with 5 seconds left I got to 9.0 miles. I was so thrilled I nearly flew off the seat. I'm fairly sure when I wake up tomorrow morning both calves will be calling me names mainly "jackass". But I'm pretty happy with myself right now.
Your buddy,
Marco

That would have to be the best story you have told us so far. I was at the edge of my seat, I laughed, I cried, I did a "Happy Dance" for you. Way to go Marco! You are so funny, and tomorrow, I hope your calves will be kind to you.

Love your story and your determination! I miss riding bike so I might have to look for a cheap exercise bike somewhere. You have inspired me! Hope your calves weren't too hard on you :)

turns out my calves didn't cry bloody murder but I took the day off anyway, because I can LOL. Tonight I'll be on the bike again. I'm glad I inspire you Mrs.shady it means alot :) . Thanks Glenda I'm glad I can amuse you with my fantastic tongue in cheek commentary :)

I consider myself a pretty good runner. After being out for four months due to injury I dying to get back to my old routine (35-40 miles a week). For the month of March I would like to run 120 miles. I am having a hard time with the fact that I am not where I was, and am hoping this will help me set realistic goals as I work my way back up!

Welcome TheAubrey, you are in good company. Sounds like you need to be cautious regarding your injury. Your goal of 120 miles seems realistic. Good luck!
8.4 miles down 104.6 miles to go... oh momma.. (in my elvis presley voice)

Hey all:
I managed to ride like the bulls of pamplona were chasing me on the bike last night. I managed 8.4 miles in 35 minutes which is a new personal best for me. I maxed out at around 15.9 miles per hour on the bike for a grand total of 20 minutes straight. (knew these big thighs were good for something.) Needless to say, I was pleasantly worn out by the time my 35 minutes were up. And of course today my legs are having a slight protest to walking but that comes with the territory. I'm going to try to blow past 8.4 miles tonight and aim at a solid 9 miles (I doubt I'll make it but if I do I'll brag about like I conqured the himalayas with nothing but a t shirt, shorts and some rope tomorrow). Glad to see everyones doing well and we're all sticking to the challenge. My ultimate goal for this year would be to get my total mileage on the bike up to 200 miles in a month. But we shall see how that works out. I hope everyone is having a good week by the way, keep your eyes on the prize!
Your buddy,
Marco

A great and inspiring update Marco! Can't wait to hear you brag about peddaling for 9 miles during your workout. Your notes always make me laugh. Good luck!

Good morning to all. Tony, my mouth is watering thinking of that veggie wrap! A yum for a Friday nite dinner! Good for you with that 225 mark, heading for the 220. I have been thinking about this weight loss bizness. I have allowed my weight to unattractively creep up since LAST February. Last Friday, I remade my Resolution Journal. I began it the beginning of January when I first met Glenda. Then, I put it away. I made myself some simple things to do, or not do, each day. But what I am making myself DO, is check them off for good or for bad, everyday. It has only been 4 days. But, in those 4 days, I have not overeaten. I have tracked my meals. Glenda and Tony, that was very good advice. Thank you. I sometimes IGNORE the right thing to do. Since Glenda began talking about her new eating regime (sp) I have been paying attention. Keep talking, Glenda, you are helping me. March is my month for focusing on the pounds. Honestly, if I didn't have occaisional afternoon hiking buddies, I never would have made those miles. 100 was my goal. I am proud of all of you. March is around the corner.... Rabbit Rabbit!!! (good luck!) Wynne

Wynne we are all here for you. It's hard and overwhelming to do everything at once; exercise, eat right, journal, track your calories and your water, log in your miles, log in your weight, send notes to your blog buddies etc. I know I spend a lot more time each day doing all of that then I every used to. And don't forget how far you have already come this year, you were sick and had hamstring issues in January. Feburary rolled around and you're a new and improved woman who is walking over 100 miles in a month. Don't get discouraged and keep moving forward, you really are making some progress. We can all see it. When you are ready, you will need to deal with your calorie intake and then the scale when move in the right direction. Good luck buddy! Glenda
Edging toward 225 lbs
posted by awmarker on 4:04 am
It has been years since I was 225 and I'm edging toward that. Was 226.2 yesterday morning, a little upward of that this morning which is normal. All of which is thrilling. But man, when I get down to 220, my initial goal for this year, I'm going to throw such a (food restrained) party! Grilled vegetable wraps with hummus (just 400 cals) for everyone! Ha! Wynne, keep up that exercise. And I agree with Glenda, the other half of that equation for weight loss is tracking calories. I resisted that for YEARS but once I started doing it, I started shedding pounds. As Glenda said, you think about whether you want a food choice to end up on your calorie tracker, and if not, you're a lot less likely to eat it. But perhaps you're already doing that.
by ggschaef5760 on Feb 28, 2012 at 8:16 am
Tony, you are just 6.2 pounds of your initial goal, that is really exciting. Keep up the good work, we are all waiting for the day when you announce that you have successfully reached 220.

Tony, I am screaming for you! Glenda, YOU are my inspiration! Marco? THERE ARE NO WORDS!!! mrsshady, you know we stand amazed... YES, Marco, there are words.... You give yourself goals. that is something I don't do. My energy level is low. Glenda heard me when I used to be a regular 4.0. Now I am lucky to hang 3.6 ~ 3.8. NO more 4.0. Even then, my body hurts. No matter. I say no matter but i hurt. Counted my calories today. Tony, even my martini. Did three miles before work and no hiking today. Honestly? I am exhausted. I would have been hard pressed and eyes rolling if I had to hike....We are expecting snow in Ct. tomorrow. I have crappy tires. Long story. Hoping storm misses us. Will let you know. Hope to keep to my calories tonite... nite to all... You all are so the best! Wynne
by ggschaef5760 on Feb 28, 2012 at 6:10 pm
Hi Wynne, I am really happy that you started to count your calories. The only way you would not have to count your martini is if you didn't drink it. Ha! You have to count EVERYTHING. Once you start doing tracking you will see a trend with eating and weight gain or weight loss. Don't worry about low energy, it happens to me too, you and I are in the over 50 group after all. The days when I have no energy, I walk at 3.0 miles. I get mad at myself because it takes longer, but some days that's the best I can do. We have one more day this month and look at what we have all accomplished. I can't wait to see what March will bring. Glenda
