P90X day 4

posted by abirdsong02 on 6:44 am

In June 2008 I saw a picture of myself and really saw myself.  I was fat. I lied to myself for years saying things like "the camera adds 10 pounds"  or "God made me this way".  Neither of those were the truth.  God wants me to be fit and the camera doesn't really add 10 pounds.  I found the daily plate joined and lost 73 pounds.  All through my weight loss I never exericese religiously.  I have a very physical job, and I walked.  4 weeks ago I started running.  I go out at 6 am and see the world wake up.  It is a breathtaking experience and I reccomend it to all of you.  4 days ago a friend and I were discussing P90X, I had tried the workout before and just couldn't do it.  I was in too bad of shape.  I figured that since I began running I could handle it.  I have been doing the P90X workouts in stride now.  This morning I weighed myself.  For the first time since I started running 4 weeks ago.  I have gained 7 pounds.  Now I know that 7 pounds is not that much.  But it is quite a shock when I worked so hard to get to where I was.  My questions is have any of you noticed a gain when you began this program?  I haven't increased my calories at all.  So maybe I just need to eat more.  I have not tracked my calories on the daily plate for months.  But I was still managing to lose until now.  Time to start tracking again.

First of all, Congrats on how far you've come!  I started the Daily Plate in April '08.  I went from 206lbs to 156 lbs.  Now I bounce between 160-170.  Can't quite seem to get back under 160!  I haven't worried about it too much.  I exercise regularly and eat MUCH better than I used to.  Then I decided at the beginning of this year that I really want to work hard and get under 150 lbs for summer.  I ordered P90X and am in Phase 2.  I feel pretty good and stronger, but no weight loss.  I am planning to add running 3 days a week and see if that helps.  This week I'm going to eat a little cleaner and cut out the junk that I allow myself and see if that helps.  I wish I had a better answer for you, but wanted to let you know you are not alone.  I've heard other women say they've gained during the first phase, lose it during the 2nd, and drop lbs the 3rd.  I figure I'll stick it out for the 90 days and see where it takes me.

Knowing I am not alone helps a lot.  I started out weighing 202 pounds by Christmas of 2009 I was down to 129.  It was like a dream.  I still have cellulite that is why I decided to up the fitness level.  I want to burn the fat off my thighs.  So I can not wear the sarong with my bikini this summer. I need to worry less about the numbers and more about how my clothes fit.

Hi abirdsong02!  I just started P90X last week.  So far so good!  I wanted to comment on your comment about recently picking up running & how you "see the world wake up" - It's amazing isn't it!  Running has been my one consistant exercise in my life thus far.  Running not only keeps me healthy, it is also a big stress reliever!    Congratulations on your weight loss as well.

I have been doing the P90X workouts for 2 weeks now and usually follow up my workouts with 30-40 min of cardio. The first week I lost 3.5 pounds, this 2nd week I lost 1 pound. While I do not seem to shedding the pounds like I thought I would I am definitely shedding the inches. Two weeks ago I was wearing 36 size waist, yesterday for the first time in a year I was able to wear my size 34 shorts. I know I am also getting stronger as well because the first time I did Ab Ripper X I could not do the exercises for the full minute. Now on most of them I can complete the full minute and could go even longer if I had to. I am not so worried about the weight as much as I am about shedding the inches, but losing the weight is an added benefit. Good luck.

I won't be starting P90x until later this week, but I do know that when you start exercising more, especially with strength training, your muscles retain more water temporarily.  It should be gone within another week or so, no worries!  :)  the same thing happened to me when I started strength training and exercising regularly again.  This brief clipping is one of many:

"IF YOU'RE JUST starting out on a weight-training regimen, don't be surprised if you happen to gain three or four pounds in the first few days. No, this doesn't mean that you'll look like you have a gland problem by the end of the week. Inflammation can make muscles enlarge and swell, trapping water in the muscles, says William Kraemer, Ph.D., an exercise scientist and professor at the University of Connecticut, in the Georgia Tech Sports Medicine & Performance Newsletter.  Also, Kraemer adds, your muscle cells naturally uptake water after a workout."

No worries lady!  You're doing the right thing!!  :)

Hi!,

Ms. FF is spot on!  Check out this blog by Chalene Johnson (who also happens to be a beachbody trainer).  This should put your mind at ease
