Finally Quit after 27 years

posted by davidjohnsonsf on 1:36 pm

Hello Group. I am (or should say WAS) the guy that everyone knows and thinks will NEVER quit smoking. I smoked over a pack a day for about 27 years. Oh I tried to quit literally 100 times by many methods. I tried patches, gum, and prescription meds, everything except exercise. To make a long story short, I wanted to lose 20 pounds so I began doing the treadmill twice a day. It felt so good that I was doing 1 hour, twice a day. My body loved it and I felt it screaming out for more. So much that I just stopped smoking over 3 months ago, cold turkey and never looked back. I cannot believe that I wasted so many years of my life when I could have felt like this! I am thankful for livestrong and the community of like minded people. I don’t know what works for each different person when trying to quit this drug addiction called nicotine. Just never give up trying!

That is awsome.  Congrats on your amazing accomplishment.   I've only been cigg free for 7 days, well, 7 days at 1:27AM friday morning, but hitting the gym everyday has kept me motivated to stay away from them.  If it wasn't for working out, I would probably have fallen off the wagon.  Now when the cravings get rough, I tell myself I will never be able to participate in any running/cycling events later this year if I am a smoker.

Hey, I've been smoke-free for five years now.  Best decision I ever made and it will be for you too!  Congrats!

It's been just over 4 months for me now.  My swap was for the elliptical.  Congratulations to all of us here!
