I am recovering from nasopharyngeal cancer and hip surgery in the past 18 months. I lost
38 pounds during my cancer treatments and now in recovery and able to eat I've gained 13
lbs back. I'd like to lose 5-10 pounds of that back. i used to do vigorous vinyasa yoga
5-6 days a week, as well as the gym and though my weight was higher, I was very strong and
limber. Now, I'm tight and tired most of the time and having a hell of a time being
active. Yoga is so hard to return to with a good attitude because I'm like a different
person. I've been doing some pilates for my hip (had it resurfaced) and that's about it.
I'm hoping to get active and stay on top of my food intake.
Wow! Well it sounds like you are quite resiliant, so congratulations on your recovery! I do Zumba once a week and wish I could do it more often, it's very energizing and really puts me in an awesome mood. If you're not quite ready for yoga, perhaps you should try something a bit more upbeat for now?! Good luck :-)
I used to be part of this group but after being inactive for a long time I guess I somehow got booted (maybe in the site change as well?) Anyway, I remember wilson and jmk, I remember when we were some of the only ones who used to post in here LOL but just wanted to say hello to all and I'm glad this place is nice and active again!
I Find it very hard not to be tempted by all the unhealthy, delicious and tempting food around me .. "/ I am totatly craving for some chinese food right about now - sesame chicken with fried rice and broccoli and I know it isn't good for me but what can i do ? Does anyone have any ideas of something healthy and nutritiousI can eat ?
Honestly a good way to deal with urges is to just let yourself have the food and count calories. Say you had the chinese, just eat half and that would be like 500-700 calories. That's what I do. It results in less binging because you are satisfied.
I have a few ideas that I got from my Hungry Girl Cook/Recipe Books: Steamed Brown Rice, Steamed Veges, Steamed Vege Dumplings, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Steamed Shrimp & Broccoli, Small egg drop/wonton/sour soups (100 cals each) Cucumber Roll(w/out mayo) Spicy Tuna Roll (w/ little mayo) if you're into Sushi, Edamame, Miso soup. And she also swaps the yakisoba & lo mein noodles for shirataki noodles (in the grocery store near asian foods like wonton wrappers & tofu).
Hope this helps!
Hi folks
I just started using Livestrong and counting calories I have been a Weight watchers for
4 years, lost 50 lbs, lost motivation and gained 30 back. Trying a different approach by
counting calories and not points but having a hard time figuring out low calorie snacks
that do not have artifical sweetner..stomach can't tolerate
any advice to this old newbie??
Bonnie
What I honestly recommend is not snacking, and if you do make it a sandwich or vegetables (sounds boring, I know). The main thing is watching your calories when you do snack, don't be too strict on yourself or you'll get uncomfortable and cheat.
there are so many baby food snacks..aka Gerber's Puffs...I know it sounds weird, but trush me..when you get to eat like 70 pcs for a mere 25 cals & no fat...they will become your best friend food for life =)
I plan snacks into my day, I find it keeps me satisfied and energized and less likely to splurge at the end of the day. I do a lot of apples and peanut butter or baby carrots and hummus. I find that because peanut butter and hummus are both so thick and so flavorful that i really don't need much to make it tasty and satisfying. I also make a batch of homemade granola bars every weekend.
As for artificial sweeteners, are you talking about things like Equal and Splenda?? Have you ever given Stevia a try? It's a natural no calorie sweetener, and although it's a touch expensive, I usually just wait for it to go on sale and then buy two or three packages.
Hello everyone!!!! I am a mom to 2 beautiful little girls.....6 & 9. I am getting ready to turn 45 and am a single mom with a crazy schedule. I work as a 911 dispatcher and have a rotating schedule...that combined with the eating habits of my kids and their grandparent/babysitters who live with us I need support from somewhere else. Would love suggestions from others who have eating and exercise challenges too. I just m,opved my gym membership to Planet Fitness so I can go anytime so hoping that will help. I have 40 lbs to lose.
A can of tuna with a little olive oil over the top makes a good snack. 100 calories in the tuna and about 25 g of protein, plus whatever olive oil you put in there, olive oil is 120 cal. per Tbsp.
perfect - clean and simple!!! :)
adding a twist:
slice a tometo
Put a tbsp of tuna on each slice
small piece of light mozzarella cheese
best - in the oven - 380F for 5 min
no time? - Microwave about a minute
Let me know what u think?
I usualy add salt; and if u have fresh basil - u got a real delicious Italian option :)
One thing that I find really helps me... is if good snacks are exceptionally easy to just
grab. I buy a big box of those little sandwich baggies (and you can reuse them or use
little reusable glad containers too if that works for you)... then when I get home with
my bags of Crispy Mini's or crackers or cookies, or whatever it is... I just portion them
out automatically. then I just cut out the nutritional information from the bag and
stick it to the fridge with a magnet in case I need it later. (though I usually eat a
lot of the same stuff over and over so I get used to which one to pick in my plate)
Spamming you all with some ideas. I know somestimes I will have some fruit for a snack at
night but still want it a little sweeter or that. Well I found if i have some apple sliced
up and blueberries. Try sprinking this or other brand onto them and nuking for 10
seconds or so in microwave it smells great and tastes even better

I know wrong time of the year but if you look around you can always find those 48 in a box
of mars/snickers/Skittles and various other candy's and jellies
These make great snack's for when you want that sugar or chocolate at 30-60 calores a bar
or packet.
I find that by not removing these things from my diet sorry lifestyle change that it means
I don't feel the need to over endulge on them
Every now and then we all want that snack to munch on that seems to take time to eat because of picking them up 1 at a time and such. So how about Reese's Ceral it's 120 calories for 3/4 a cup which is actually more healthy than some other cereal out there for 1/3 or 1/2 a cup www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/nutrition-calories/food/reeses/reeses-puffs-cere al/
Hey everyone! Just starting to track my food and exercise, so bear with me. I'm the type that really gets hungry around 10pm. I need some ideas of some healthier snacks that won't wreck my calorie total for the day. Any ideas? Salty or sweet, I like both. Please share some ideas or recipes that have worked for you all. Thanks!
A hummus wrap in a whole wheat tortilla with some spring mix lettuce. Grapes, Celery & hummus. . . I just started a new diet so I am also having a hard time with the late night cravings. Hope these help, it's been what I have been doing this past week. I know carbs are bad at night, but you know, all we can do is our best
There is alot of quaker brand and fibre 1 bars with peanut and chocolate for 100-150 calories which make a great snack.
Also some ceral like say reeses
Jenny Grothe has a book with 75 oatmeal recipes. Some of them are oven, crock pot or microwave and 90% of them are under 300 calories and the fat is below 8g. Fresh fruit, protein, oatmeal, quinona, egg whites. The food is great and her book has websites where she purchases some of her spices and flavorings. Great breakfast/pre/post workout food.
Ooo I love experimenting with oatmeal recipes - so much you can do and so good for you! One of my favs for a sweet snack is 1/2 cup oatmeal cooked in water then stir in 1 Tbsp dark chocolate chips and 1/2 cup raspberries. Or if you want a chocolate fix without the sugar, try stirring in cocoa powder and some unsweetened coconut flakes and a few walnuts. YUM
any ideas for snacks/meals that keep you full for a long time with low calories? i have been eating popcorn, but getting kinda tired of it :)
I don't know if you like oatmeal, but sometimes if I'm hungry in between meals I'll have some. I am a stay at home mom so it's convienent for me to heat up a bowl, and it keeps me full for a while. Most snack foods leave me wanting more, but by the time I'm done with the bowl I'm satisfied. I know it's not a traditional snack, but I like it. I also like to make a fruit salad by cutting up some of my favorite fresh fruits and stirring in a container of Fiber One yogurt. Then sprinkling just a little pumpkin seed granola on top. It's doesn't add up to a lot of calories and satisfies my sweet tooth. I'll try to think of some more, but these are two of my favorites.
Happy holidays everyone. Please watch my friend Pat
and I "sing" the
12 days of Christmas healthy eating style! You're
bound to lose some calories from the belly laugh alone.

Hi everyone - I am new to this blog. I have lost 15 pounds so far but 5 of that was not
through Livestrong. I am actually following a little bit of WW points and calories. On
WW you can get extra points on the weekend. I typically eat below my points during the
week. So, I am calling this "my last chance diet". If I don't follow through with it I
will be having surgery. I have been working very hard this year to rethink about my
relationship with food. What the payoff is when I eat and why I have let that payoff
take control of my life. My husband says that I have changed drastically in my thinking
and I would agree. So, here I am writing this blog and hoping that my future will be with
me losing weight and in turn will help me to feeling lighter in body and in spirit.
Check out more meals just like it! www.MYdiabEATS.com
Is anyone out there?? Taking a chance and going to share two of my families fav low cal
snacks. Use Mrs. Dash! There are lots of flavors to suit any taste and is super great on
any sliced veggie! I even slice celery into bite size pieces, sprinkle a little fiesta
lime on it and carry it to work for an afternoon snack. Very easy and quick!
For a sweet treat, break a graham cracker in half, put a dollop of fat free cool whip on
one piece, top with the other half, place in the freezer for an hour or two. It tastes
enough like an ice cream sandwich that it satisfies the craving! All for about 50
caloriies.
Hey guys I'm new to the site, and to the group, but I have some great snack or low cal meal ideas. If you're dying for something sweet and salty do apple slices and some peanut butter or celery sticks and peanut butter. If you're looking for a filling snack try Vegitable or Tomoato Juice. If you want something healthy and low cal for dinner try doing a tuna nicoise, Eating Well has some great recipies check out the link to the section they did on healthy ways to eat tuna http://www .eatingwell.com/recipes_menus/collections/healthy_tuna_recipes. If you are like me and you like to have light meals at night try doing salads with homemade vinegarette dressings using Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Red Wine Vinegar or just add salt pepper and lemon juice to the salad. My secret to a good filling salad is to add lots of yellow and red tomatos some red onion and on occasion some avacado or a pear if I think I'd like a sweet and salty salad.
Some great ideas!! I like apple slices with peanut butter, but the peanut butter is a little thick so I add a little applesauce to thin it out. In the old days (before weight loss), I would thin the peanut butter with honey. I like the applesauce just as much. I've been experimenting with salads too and have discovered that I love red peppers....yum!
I just found this group, and although the recent posts are few, the older posts have some
great ideas! Can we get this group "back in"?? We all have to snack to keep our
metabolism up during the day, fuel up for a workout, or refuel after a workout.
Some of my fav snacks - low fat granola bars and almonds. I'm a special education
teacher so my meals can be a bit sporadic on some days. I keep these snacks in my desk
for quick fuel on crazy days.
But I get hungry, easily!! Any suggestions?
I tried this once at a cookout and they are so easy and yummy! you can make them just
as a snack for yourself or make several for an appetizer.
Ingredients: Jalapenos, fat free cream cheese, & turkey bacon
Cut the jalapenos in half, spoon out the inside and fill with about 1 tbs of cream cheese
on each half. Put jalapeno back together as a whole, and wrap one bacon around the
pepper. Use a toothpick to pin the bacon on the pepper.
Once they are done, you can place them on the grill to cook about 15 minutes or more
depending on how soft you like your peppers! I use my little George Foreman grill
inside if im only making a couple to snack on.
Easy, yummy, quick! 69 calories each & only 1.8 carbs!! hope you enjoy!!
Today for lunch I had a HUGE Portobello Mushroom!!!
Ingredients: *1 large portobello mushroom cap, *2 slices of skim mozzarella cheese, *3
Slices of Tomato, *1 Tbs of Balsamic Vinegar, *Fresh Basil, *Salt & Pepper
Directions: Place mushroom in lightly oiled/sprayed oven safe dish. Top with cheese,
tomato & basil, balsamic, salt and pepper.
Place in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Enjoy!

I've started using High Fiber Wraps over bread in my lunch sandwiches. I substitute
condiments like mayo and mustard for tzatziki (cucumber and garlic yogurt) sauce. It's
usually low in calories (35 per Tbs) and it is YUMMERS! Then I throw on a lil' feta
cheese (a little goes a long way) instead of sliced cheese. It too, is typically lower in
calories.
Use some greek olives, lettuce, tomato, and your fav. lunch meat, and you have a greek
change of pace for lunch :)
Any low calorie dinner ideas that can still satisfy a husband and a roommate who are not counting calories??? :)
Brother's-All-Natural Fruit Crisps (Apples)
These are addicting and a healthy choice. One snack pack is the equivalent to 1.5
apples. All it is is freeze dried apples. NO ADDED SUGAR!

When I crave carbs, my appetite is an insatiable bottomles pit. I eat something filling,
like some luncheon meat or luncheon turkey breast or a piece of fruit, something with
protein or fiber that will stave my appetite and prevent me from craving
more carbs. Chewing a piece of gum is a good idea too.
If you've reached your maximum amount of calories, here are some good ideas:
1. Drink water or a low-calorie diet drink
2. eat sugar free Jello
3. go exercise
4. spend some time with a friend
At night, when I've already eaten my calories for the day, I do one of three things. I either (1) eat some kind of pickled peppers...this makes me not want anything sweet or salty; (2) brush my teeth and use mouthwash...sometimes every fifteen minutes; or (3) go to bed!! They work for me!
I'm joining a couple of groups today because it will make me accountable to others as
well. With only 15 more pounds to go, I'm almost self sabotaging, doing ok right up
until after the kids in bed and then raiding the pantry and fridge like there's no
tomorrow. This is blowing out my calories! I also think it's great that there are low
cal snack and food ideas - I really need those on a regular basis. Thanks for the
support .
This is a 250 calorie pizza. I think you could make a version of this yourself with the
following ingredients.
1 flat out bread (100 calories)
tomato paste (25 calories)
Cut zucchini and crookneck squash (25 calories)
Light Mozzerella cheese (40 calories) (1/2 serving)
spices
Arrange ingredients on flatbread and bake in the oven for 10 minutes. The trick to
making this light personal pizza is not to use too much cheese.
Ok. I see this site is dead, but I'll write in it just for me and the occassional person
who happens to pop in. This morning's breakfast consisted on a one egg omelette.
I normally make an all-white omlette, but today, I decided to use 1 egg (70 calories) and
1 egg white (17 calories) and a slice of laughing cow cheese. The entire thing is only
122 calories, and it is filling.
Half and Half Omelette
1 egg
1 egg white
1 wedge of light laughing cow cheese
salt and pepper to taste
Remember when you are making the omelette to let the pan heat up quite a bit. Also, bring
your whipped eggs to room temperature before you plop them into the pan. This makes your
omelette more fluffy.
It's not completely dead - I'm still here - not so active but getting back to it.
I am a great fan of one egg omelette. It is hard to get the light Laughing Cow where I live (Australia) so I use just a little sprinkle of parmesan and also a few thin slices of granny smith apple makes it a real meal.
Marie
Hi,
I'm Kim. I'm a 35 year old single mother (divorce will be final on December 2nd). I'm
5'4" and weigh.....gulp.....278 pounds!! I'm the biggest I have ever been
ever!!! I gained the last 20+ pounds in the last six months.
The only thing I can figure is it was due to stress. I've got a lot on my plate right
now. The divorce was not my idea. I didn't want it. I wanted to work to
make the marriage work, but he just didn't want to be married anymore. Add to that the
declining health of both my parents (and I'm a only child) and the fact that I changed
jobs about 4 months ago and am working for myself. Finances have really been tight.
Anyway.....not trying to excuse the weight gain away, just trying to supply some possible
explanations.
I made the discovery of the 20+ extra pounds the day before Thanksgiving and it was my
moment! You know. People always say that when you're really
ready to lose weight you'll know it?? Well that moment came Wednesday night. I don't
know how....but somehow, I am going to lose 130 pounds!!
A very good friend of mine suggested Livestrong.com because her husband lost about 80
pounds with the help of this website. So I'm hoping to follow in his, as well as many of
your, footsteps!! :)
I have recently rediscovered tea. As the weather gets colder, and my diet makes me even colder, I need something to warm me up at night. I used to turn to Chocolate Monkeys (banana liquor, kahlua, and hot chocolate) when I needed warming. Now, I pick a really good herbal tea. It has the same warming effect with no calories.

This posted terribly! Going back to edit it right now.
