A group for ANY type of tri-athlete- Amateur, Professional, Sprint, Olympic, Ironman... if you are even thinking triathlon, come on in!
Wow, I can see now why people get addicted to doing triathlons. I just completed my
first sprint tri on last Saturday. I loved it! It was amazing that I could actually
complete the entire thing. I was most scared of the swimming portion because it was in a
lake and I have a fear of parasites. But I worked hard at teaching myself to swim with
my head above water. But I finished it, but not without making a complete fool of
myself. I tripped and landed flat on my front side but I got up and kept going. I
LOVED the biking portion. I just bought a road bike when I started trying to keep up
with the road bikers on my mountain bike and would die in brick training. I felt amazing
passing people! Then the run was more difficult than I thought it would be. I will be
working hard at improving this leg of the race over the next 9 months.
Needless to say, I was bit by the bug. I'm already looking forward to May when I'll
complete in a bigger sprint triathlon. Any hints on improving your endurance for the
run?
Thanks,
Tina
The best way for beginners to improve on run endurance is to run more, no sarcasm intended. The more you run, the better you'll be at running. Just be careful to only increase your total run mileage, as well as your long run mileage, no more than 10% per week, and give yourself an easier week every 3-6 weeks. Then once you get closer to your next event, start running every time you finish a bike ride. Just do an easy 10-30 minutes immediately after each ride. This will teach your body to run on tired legs, and you can get into your rythm much faster in your next race. I hope this helps, and good luck!
