This is a group devoted to eating right and exercising so that we will be fit and strong when the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse ravages the world! Will you be prepared?
More people are aware of how important this training really is every day.

Seems everyone is still living their daily zombie free lives....haven't heard of any
Zombie's in my neighbour hood lately -- Although I'm unsure zombies would survive a cold
Canadian winter..I guess they wouldn't freeze to "death" persay... any thoughts???
Poses a good question. I would assume being undead that they have no internal heat and would freeze, but unless damaged from the freeze would thaw out in the spring. Just another reason to keep exercising. To keep from freezing like a zombie.
Here is an interesting article which states the colder it is, the higher your BMI is.
http://anthro.palomar.edu/adapt/adapt_2.htm
From wikipedia:
"Swings in body temperature – either hotter or cooler – increase the metabolic rate, thus burning more energy. Prolonged exposure to extremely warm or very cold environments increases the basal metabolic rate (BMR). People who live in these types of settings often have BMRs that are 5–20% higher than those in other climates. Physical activity also significantly increases body temperature, which in turn uses more energy from respiration."
From Raw Living Food Success:
"If you are still having a problem in the heart of winter in a cold climate, then what you are lacking is your Omega Fatty Acids and other healthy fats. It is not necessary to eat fish to get your EFA's; where do you think the fish get theirs? They get it from Marine Phytoplankton. It is also what the whales exist on and how they stay warm in the cold ocean!"

Well, survived Halloween! Saw a few zombies last night, but since I did not eat any candy, had plenty available to distract and subdue those that might have chased me. Now that the sun has come up, seems as though we have avoided the apocalypse yet again.

Keep up the fight
I love that this group exists! I felt the need to join this group not only becuase it is
the sensible thing to do, but also because I am planning on running from zombies at the
Run for Your Lives/Zombie Apocolypse event in October.
http://www.runforyourlives.com/#/the-race
Perhaps I'll see some of you there!
Due to the lack of response I fear the zombie apocalypse has already struck many of your towns. I am saddened to hear this. But know this... if there are any survivors still out there... Vermont is a safe haven. I repeat... Vermont is Zombie Free!!! If you feel you can make the journey I wish you luck.
Question:
When the zombies come to your town, where are you going to take shelter?
Personally, I would grab some guns, and groceries, and hole up in my town's highschool.
There I would have secured locked doors, a cafeteria, a workout room, a telecom to sound
warning messages to everyone throughout the school, and most importantly... showers. ^_^
Hi everyone! I'm here to join the ranks against the zombies. Watched Walking Dead last night, and it really hit hard how important it is to be prepared. Even our governments don't stand a chance in the zombie apocolypse. We have to be smart. We have to be strong. We have to be ready. Good luck.
Keep Fit, Stay Strong! All of humanity will be depending on us to carry on the human race
when Z day comes! Don't be left 4 Dead!

You know what I was just thinking would be a GREAT motivational on the treadmill? Playing Left 4 Dead!! I haven't tried it yet, but the game get's so intense that I think if you could incorporate it into your cardio routine, it could make it that much more intense & cardio could actually be fun!! I don't have a treadmill though actually, so I'll have to try it on my bike.
I thought I was the only one concerned about the coming hoards.... Between
"World War Z" and my "Zombie Survival GUide" I was this
close to packing my bags and heading to Canada when I heard about
"H1N1".... But alas I need to be in fighting shape (and besides I'm still
waiting for my titanium crowbar from Ebay)... So yeah what does that all mean you may
wonder? Well simply put, it means:

Proud member of the ZEDU! we are always looking for new bretheren (and
sisteren!) What better way to get in shape than to slay the undead! (unless
they are vampires... they are cool, as long as they are not draining you!)
Hmm, reading your last post. I am disturbed by your lack of vigilence against ALL undead.
Perhaps there has been recent contact with a dark one? There may be a Grand Master & Mistress near your location, his coven must be using the placation and oblivious village spell.
The siren song of the vampire has seduced you my friend! We are on the way. coming from:

Do you guys ever think of this when you wake up in the morning and open your garage
doors?
I'm Linh - this is a great group topic. I'm so game.
Yes, I am always prepared whenever I go outside. I carry an axe and just crack the garage door open enough to let Daisy the wonderdog in.
I know the first thing that will happen is she will bite the zombie and become infected, but maybe, maybe she is 'The One' and is an immune.
Oh well, I got to go. I can only jog in the very early morning down the train tracks with my axe.

maybe some of you have seen this, I hope so anyway, but if not: "Dead Set" is a brittish zombie feature length mini-series, and it is SO AWESOME~ the first half (character development) is lame - i hate character development in zombie flicks, but after the first part there - it's all zombie mayhem, and it's pretty great, but the zombie don't climb.. which is weird.. but they DO react to noise - and I liked how they use noise a few times in the series - think about it - other zombie movies don't really play on that - usually when you kick something over, a zombie just comes out and kills the guy, but they use it a couple times here as a test to see if the coast is clear - and I couldn't think of any other zombie film that did that.. anyway, it's all on youtube, check it out if you get a chance ^.- "Dead Set" ^^ <3 <--jen!

Dear Friends,
I have come to the conclusion that a low carb or zero carb diet is not for me. My
body seemed to be storing fat from whatever I decided to eat. My best foods for cutting
Fat? Oatmeal & Broccoli. Best for high energy workouts? Coconut water. So now I have
been continuing with complex carbs, or high glycemics like rice and pasta after workouts,
and low glycemics, like outmeal and broccoli in the morning. I found a pretty good protien
shake RTD with carbs, collossal 100 RTD by Met-Rx. But still the champ for cheap protien
is Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey.
Gabriel of the Living
Blood, guts and brains are very high in protien. Which leads me to suspect the Zombie virus may be an amino acid.
The lean 'zombie look' may be attributed to the low carb zombie diet, and the lack of coordination from a very low glycemic level from not having enough carbs and vitamins.
Gabriel of the living
Just a quick one here.
I picked up a vintage BMX Friday night. A really cool '79 schwinn scrambler. After a
quick clean up and bearing lube, I rode till dark. little jumps and stuff by the train
tracks. My legs are pumped! I thought I was going to pass out a couple of times.
I'm thinking I could get into this, mabey I''l try to find an old redline 26 if I can.

TRANSCRIPT:-------------------------------------------- KEVIN LARRABEE: Well, let's jump
right into the questions. The first one we have comes from Chris. He says, "I'm
justcurious, what are your thoughts about fructose? Should theaverage person avoid a lot
of fruit? I tend to avoid starchycarbs altogether, instead focusing on lean protein, fruit
and veggies, in addition to healthy fats. Should I be worriedabout the fructose stuff? I
eat 3 to 5 pieces of fruit a day,and that includes apples, grapes, bananas, oranges and
reallywhatever is on sale at the store." TOM VENUTO: I saw this topic got stirred up again
just a fewweeks ago. There was a study published in June, and it gotwritten up in The New
York Times, about fructose gettingconverted into fat. And you know how good the media is
atreporting scientific research. Right? [sarcasm] KEVIN LARRABEE: Oh, it's great. It's
fantastic. I go to The New York Times for all my nutrition information actually. [more
sarcasm!] TOM VENUTO: [laughs] Well, it was The Journal for the American Nutrition
Society. The title, right off the bat, was really damning. It said, "Dietary Sugars
Stimulate Fatty Acid Synthesis." Then The New York Times' articlesays, "Does Fructose Make
You Fatter?" And everybody sawthat and they're like, "Oh, my God! Fruit turns into fat!"
To tell you the truth, having started in the bodybuildingworld, I believed that too.
That's what I was taught. I wastaught that fruit turns to fat, and when you go on a
contestdiet, you have to cut the fruit out. So when I was just starting out in
bodybuilding, in my first few contests, I cut the fruit out. And then I started to really
analyze itand it didn't seem to make any sense to me, so I put the fruit back in. I didn't
see one shred of difference. If you really go and look at these studies, like this new
one, they were talking about high fructose corn syrup, notwhole fruit. We know that the
fructose goes to preferentiallyrestore the liver glycogen, and the liver has a limited
storage capacity. Some of the studies suggest that about 50 grams of fructose before it
starts to spill into fat, at least in the context of those studies. But does anybody know
how much 50 grams of fructose is? I mean, in terms of soda, or high fructose corn syrup, I
don'tthink it's hard at all to get 50 grams. And in that study, they didn't give people
whole fruit. They gave them a big liquid dose that had 85 grams of carbs in a 75% fructose
solution. That's like 64 grams of fructose all at once. So there you have it. That's
consistent with what you'd expect based on the research. Now, if you look at whole fruit,
everybody saw the headlineand they thought, "Fruit equals fructose." But fruit and
fructose aren't exactly the same thing. A lot of people think that all the sugars in fruit
are fructose. But a typical piece of fruit has what? About 6-7 grams of fructose? Maybe
you'd get about 10 in a big banana, and some of the berries that are really high in fiber,
have only 2-3 gramsof fructose. So it would take almost an impossible-to-eat amount,
especially if you're trying to stay in a calorie deficit, for that to cause any fat
storage. And if you're in a calorie deficit for the day anyway, should we really be
worried about it

Hello Guys and Ghouls,
Helloween is jes around the corner. Once again the evil dead will be out in droves. A
perfect time for a maccabre re-animator to unleash his spawned fury against an
unsuspecting human world.
Looking at our groups goals more times than not, we have met our intake goals.
Congrats!
How about your cardio?

Gabriel of the Living
I've been killing it with fruit for weeks and seem to be going nowhere. Now I know why!
There are three types of carbohydrates: starchy carbs, sugars and dietary fiber. Starchy
carbs are often white and found in foods like potatoes, white bread and rice. You
shouldn't eliminate all starchy carbs from your diet; that wouldn't be healthy. Your body
needs these types of carbs for energy. However, some starchy carb choices are better for
you than others. Eat less potatoes, white bread and white rice. If you do choose to eat
bread or rice, opt for a small serving of whole-grain bread or brown rice. These types of
carbohydrates are more complex and have a less inflammatory effect on the body.
Lower-Carb Fruit Facts
Fruits are definitely starchy carbs, but some fruits have fewer carbs than others. Citrus
fruits are higher in carbs than fruits like strawberries or blueberries. Kiwi is also a
good fruit option. Mix berries and kiwi for a delicious lower-carb fruit salad. Small
portions are key, and don't forget that fruit juice is also high in carbs, so limit the
amount you drink.
Choose Greens to Go
Fiberous carbs are plant-based, but some vegetables are lower in carbohydrates than
others. Think dark green when choosing vegetables. If you eat the majority of your
vegetables from this color group, it will greatly reduce the amount of starchy carbs in
your diet. Spinach, kale and other leafy, dark greens provide substantial nutrient value
and are lower in carbs than light green leafy vegetables like iceberg lettuce. Broccoli
and Brussels sprouts are two other dark green vegetables that are good choices to help
eliminate more starchy carbs from your diet.
Low carb and no carb diets are all the rage yet if not applied properly can be detrimental
and misbalancing your body rather than helping you get fit and healthy! You need a good
mix of nutrients to function at your best while achieving your health goals but unless you
know food nutrients very well then you can easily misfire with your meal planning.
Omitting starchy carbs is not the key, picking the right time is, like after a workout.
Many people fail to realize there are 2 types of complex carbohydrates and often confuse
simple carbohydrates as replacements for vegetables. Simple carbs are fruits and although
natural they are still full of sugar and high on the glycemic index and are definitely not
a replacement for vegetables.
Complex carbs are starchy or fibrous so the starchy carbs are the ones most people think
of as carbs yet forget the greens, spinach, green beans, broccoli and similar veggies that
are also carbs and these are what should be the bulk of your carb intake. It is starchy
carbs that need monitoring but are crucial for the diet and should be ingested as whole
grains only, avoiding enriched flour products. Things like brown rice, quinoa, oats, yams,
carrots, squash and legumes are all starchy carbs and should be included as part of your
carb intake.
Some good advice from livestrong, and looking good naked.
I'm cutting down on the fruits for sure.
