Dehydration

Proper hydration is helpful for achieving the best performance in elite athletes like Lance Armstrong. Exercising for extended periods of time or participating in endurance sports means that you need to drink more and more frequently in order to avoid dehydration. Adequate fluid intake is essential for athletes before, during, and after exercise. The proper amount of water depends upon your duration and intensity of exercise. It's important not only to drink enough water for your body and level of exercise, but to give your body the best quality water available. Clean, filtered water - like that offered by Clear2Go® - is the clear choice for your health.

Tour de France Stage 1 Recap

Posted by Chris Brewer | 1:18 pm PDT, July 4th 2009 | 1 Comments
So what did we learn today at the Stage 1 time trial here in Monaco? Quite a lot, actually... Despite the course being quite difficult for an opening TT, it was not hard enough to cancel out anyone in true contention. Fabian Cancellara displayed his rightful dominance as a TT world champion, taking home the victory and the initial maillot jaune - chapeau! Lance's teammate and 2007 TdF winner Alberto Contador was 2nd on the day and fastest to the summit (important), and TT specialist Bradley Wiggins was 3rd.

Here's what else I saw of note: Astana put 4 men in the top 10 with Contador, Kloden, Leipheimer and Armstrong - that's a big deal. Also, none of the top 10 were more than a minute away from each other, so that will set the tongues a-wagging until we get to the mountain top uphill finish after leaving Barcelona.

So what's the take away from today? Lance's team is as strong as it is rumored to be, and now the peloton knows it. We saw good performances from many of the top guys, as to be expected. Who displayed something? Alberto did a ton on the uphill, as did Cancellara on the flats just like the F1 cars that rolled on the same course a few months ago.

2009 Giro champ Menchov basically blew a gasket and it looks to me like he's understandably done for the GC. Lance and Levi did their work early and put themselves in a nice position to collectively turn the Astana screw on the rest of the group when needed. And Monaco is certainly the best venue ever for a TdF start and all looks VERY good for a Lance / Astana team victory, just 3 weeks to Paris! Ciao for now, we'll talk soon - Chris...

Stage 1 Update

Posted by Chris Brewer | 10:22 am PDT, July 4th 2009 | 0 Comments
With David Millar not able to beat Levi ala locking up his brakes, it shows the top times today will be around 20 minutes. Prob 90 mins till proof of that, starting with George Hincapie and the remaining top riders. From my vantage point it seems the course - while hard - is not hard enough to cause significant time gaps.

Lance's Stage 1 Update

Posted by Chris Brewer | 9:44 am PDT, July 4th 2009 | 0 Comments
Lance lays down a 20'12" to take the early lead. Levi's time will be very interesting to compare, we'll learn a lot from that. It's not often you get two riders of their quality going this early in a TT. The weather is also cooperating, looks like it's going to hold, but being on the coast that could change quickly. Game on...
