Aside from your amazing cycling talents, you continue to inspire me with your ability to leverage your celebrity for the cause of fighting cancer. If only more athletes used your formula and cared more about a cause than themselves, this world would be a better place and kids would have many role models to look up to. I love your dedications and wish you might consider dedicating a race to my Mom, Diane Vaillancourt, who passed away from breast cancer in 2006. Your yellow bands had recently come out and she wore one every day because she felt like she was part of a greater cause than just her own struggle. She read your book, was inspired, and hoped to survive just as you did. I learned more from her as she fought the cancer those 4 years than in all my years before. She fought with grace, determiniation and hope. The same hope you gave millions today with your fight and inspiring comeback. I only wish she were here to see how well you were doing, but more importantly how you are bringing hope to millions who are fighting like she did. Ride on and continue to inspire. Livestrong!

Hi M. Armstrong,

I'm French (living in Lyon) and I would salute you and wish you a great "Tour de France 2009".

All leaders have people that hate them and people that love them.
I don't hate you, I don't love you (hope so, I'm a man. ? For sensitive people: It's only a joke, there's nothing behind)
I consider you are "simply" a good manager and a top level athlete.

I only have one regret, in my memory you've spoken French, it seems it's not the case any longer!!

You've made and you make a lot of efforts for ill persons, but everybody cans benefit of comments from people of your quality.

Please Lance, if you really think this Tour is the last one, be more people friendly. Be more popular is France could have a good influence for your cause as well.

I hope you'll meet gentle people in France (I know it is not obvious along the "tour de France" road).

Once again, I wish you a great "Tour de France 2009" and good luck for your cause.

Please try to manage a kind of suspense in the race, don't be too hard with your competitors ? (joke).

Go, Go Lance.

Win it !!

Thank you, Mr. Armstrong, for your unselfish use of your deseved fame to help so many others.

I, thankfully, do not have cancer. After so many years (57) of being aggressively active, including two tours in Vietnam right out of high school, I am now being crippled with degenerative discs in my spine. I am in constant pain, sometimes severe, with little hope of getting back to normal. It is sometimes overwhelming to think that I may never be able to go back to the job that I love for which that I trained to do for my retirement years as a commercial truck driver.

Then I read the stories of the people here. The people that have suffered so much more than I. The people that you have encouraged by your example and by your words. It is from this that I have become appreciative of where my life is at this moment. It is from this that I have determined to not give up, but to instead, continue to press forward by embracing physical therapy and the seemingly child-like physical activity that I am able to do. You, Lance, have reminded me of where courage is found in my life. I thank you so very much.

Do to your competition what you do best in the mountains: burn their legs off til they cry 'mama' :-) And say hi to Tyler Farrar for me; he's a hometown boy (Wenatchee, WA).

Lance- You truly are an inspiration! This was a beautiful dedication! I must say that your return to cycling has peaked my interest in cycling overall. I am a busy girl, working 50-60+ hrs a week and working to finish a Computer Science degree. This month I have vowed to slow down a bit (so I can watch the TdF of course!), but I am also begun running and cycling again. :) You are awesome- hope you get to the DC area soon- I would love to meet you! There are alot of soldiers at the Army hospital (where I work) that would be truly inspired to meet you as well!

Lance, I stood on the roadside all throughout Georgia during both years you rode the TdG. And, of course, I've followed your career and all your tours. I've also worn a LiveStrong band from when you brought them out, mostly for my husband who died of cancer in 1987.

Now my cyclist son was operated on for cancer last week, but he's decided you're riding the Tour for him. So we're all cheering for every peddle stroke you make. Thanks for giving us hope!
