Learning to Swim

Learning the Flutter Kick in Swimming

The front crawl, or freestyle, is the fastest and most energy-efficient of all swimming strokes, which is why it's used in competition. This stroke uses alternating pulling arm motions combined with the flutter kick. Also used with the back crawl stroke and when treading water, the flutter kick is a vital swimming kick to learn. Once you have mastered the flutter kick, you will be able to become horizontal in the water, stay afloat and propel yourself along in the water.
