What Foods Would Make Me Happier?

Many factors affect your mood, including the various nutrients and chemicals in the food that you eat and beverages you drink. Some foods, especially those high in refined sugar, can quickly elevate your mood and energy levels briefly, but they eventually affect both negatively. Foods that make you happy and keep you happy are often wholesome varieties that stimulate your brain to produce neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that trigger neuron activity and influence mood. Seasonal Affective Disorder, or “winter depression,” is caused by low levels of neurotransmitters due to lack of sunshine. Consult with your doctor if your mood is chronically depressed or plagued by anxiety.
