What Pilates Exercises Can Be Done With Post-Polio Syndrome?

The conventional wisdom that exercise increases strength is not always true for polio survivors. Polio damages the motor neurons that trigger muscle fibers to contract, and exercise can cause those weakened neurons and muscles to fail in people with post-polio syndrome. The Pilates exercises that are safe for you will depend on which muscles were affected by your initial illness. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding exercise if you have post-polio syndrome.
