Im 47 years old and for the past 8 years or so I have been working hard and getting my body in shape. It's been a long process and what I have found that works for me is hiking. Setting a goal each year of how I am going to challenge myself. Long term goal is to climb Mt. Shasta when Im 50. A month ago,I climbed to the top of Pyramid Peak, which is the highest peak (9800 elevation) in Desolation Wilderness, CA. That climb was so hard, I found myself questioning whether I even wanted to attempt Shasta. I will. Still have alot of work to do but love the hiking. It's a combination of mind and body and when you're pushing your body so hard, it's very interesting to see how your mind reacts. After many hikes, I know where my mind is going to go but I know that if I don't let my body give up, my mind will follow and get me to my end goal.
