I began my new life about a week before finding Livestrong. It's my new best friend! My starting weight was 235, and I'm 5'6". I've struggled with my weight all my life and I don't want to do it any more. My friend said to me the other day, "Sure, eating right and exercising is hard ... but so is being fat!" Well, that really got to me and I'm on track to a goal of 153 (just inside of healthy BMI range) over the next year. I don't really have any health problems so far (cholesterol, sugar, etc. are all fine), but I know it's a virtual certainty unless I take action. I turned 30 in October, and I've decided this is my year! Plus, Hubby and I want to start a family, so I've got to get this body in shape so I can have a healthy pregnancy and baby in the future! :) Thanks to all my Livestrong friends -- your support is invaluable to me on this journey!

UPDATE (1/11/10)
In my first 6 months on LiveStrong, I lost 45 pounds! I took a break during November and December to focus on finishing my semester in school and enjoying the holiday break. So, I'm back now and more committed than ever to get down to my ultimate goal weight of 153! I'm re-committing to tracking and exercising daily b/c I know that is the way to meet my goals!

UPDATE: May 24, 2010
Wow -- hard to believe that it's been one year since I became a member of LiveStrong! As of the beginning of this year, I had lost 50 pounds, which I've maintained for several months now. After a very busy and stressful semester in school that didn't leave much time for me to take care of myself, I am back and recommitted to meeting my goal: 32 pounds to go! Last year, I made a plan to complete 12 5k's (one a month for a year). I just finished my 8th one on May 15!

1. REACHED 7/24/09 (my 5th wedding anniversary) -- 215
2. REACHED 10/1/09 (198) -- 199 (under 200!)
3. REACHED (2/1/10) 185 (-50 pounds and no longer "obese" according to BMI)
4. 170 (wedding weight in July 2004 -- the last time I was actually happy with pictures of myself!)
5. 153 (no longer "overweight" according to BMI)
6. Re-evaluate at 153 to see if I want to/can lose more ... then MAINTAIN!
