“ I know some use Splenda. So, I wanted to share this information from Splenda. They say the Splenda packets have 4 calories in them. I think they rounded up because they say each pack contains .9 grams of carbs. Since one carb is 4 calories, then it would be 3.6 calories. Anyway, I wanted to share this since Livestrong says Splenda contains no calories. Splenda is allowed to report zero because it is below 5 calories. Anyway, the response from Splenda
Thank you for visiting the SPLENDA(R) Brand Sweetener website. We hope you became more familiar with SPLENDA(R) Brand Sweetener during your visit to the site.
We manufacture four forms of SPLENDA (R) Brand Sweetener: SPLENDA(R) No Calorie Sweetener Granular, SPLENDA(R) No Calorie Sweetener Packets, SPLENDA(R) Sugar Blend for Baking, and SPLENDA (R) Brown Sugar Blend for Baking.
The caloric and carbohydrate content for SPLENDA (R) No Calorie Sweetener Brand is as follows:
SPLENDA (R) Granular 1 tsp = 0.5 gm carb = 2 calories one half cup = 12 gm carb = 48 calories 1 cup = 24 gm carb = 96 calories
*1 tsp. = 1 serving
Packet of SPLENDA (R) 1 packet = .9 gm of carb = 4 calories
*1 packet has the sweetness of 2 tsp of sugar
Note: Per U.S. labeling laws, anything with less than 5 calories per serving, is properly labeled as "zero" or no-calorie.
Note: The calories and carbohydrates in SPLENDA (R) No Calorie Sweetener comes from dextrose and/or maltodextrin, which are added for bulk. Sucralose the sweetening ingredient in SPLENDA (R) Brand Sweetener, has no calories and is not a carbohydrate.
Granular - sucralose, maltodextrin (0.5 gram per serving) Packets - sucralose, maltodextrin and dextrose (less than 1 gram per packet)
Since you need to use only half the volume of sugar called for in your recipe, SPLENDA(R) Sugar Blend for Baking provides half the calories and carbohydrate that sugar would ordinarily provide.
SPLENDA(R) Sugar Blend for Baking (use ½ as much as sugar) Sugar
For recipe sweetening: 1/2 cup 1 cup Calories 384 768 Carbohydrate 96 grams 192 grams Per serving: 1/2 tsp. 1 tsp. Calories 10 16 Carbohydrate 2 grams 4 grams
1/2 cup of SPLENDA(R) Brown Sugar Blend contains 1/2 the calories and 1/2 the sugar of 1 cup of regular brown sugar, but has the same sweetness as a full cup of regular brown sugar. Half a packed cup of Splenda Brown Sugar Blend provides approximately 95-105 grams of carbohydrate.
The exact calorie count of 1 cup of regular brown sugar is a function of how firmly/densely the measuring cup is packed, yielding 500-850 calories. So, consumers can save ~250 calories or more by using 1/2 cup SPLENDA(R) Brown Sugar Blend in place of 1 cup regular brown sugar.
The measurement for 1 cup of regular brown sugar that is on the back panel of SPLENDA(R) Brown Sugar Blend packaging does not exactly match the USDA listing for 1 cup of regular brown sugar. Our back panel listing falls between the USDA listings for unpacked and packed brown sugar.
We value hearing from our consumers. “ I have been gone for a couple of weeks. I have no idea how much I weigh right now. I am almost afraid of the scale. I mean, I didn't eat all bad. At the same time, I have no idea how many calories I eat. I am sure there were days I was under and days I have been over. I think I have just got so bogged down with trying to meet goals. I mean, I should be eating between 2500 to 3000 calories a day. And, for a while not meeting that goal worked. But, then my weight loss and inches basically came to a halt and talking with people, it was determined that this all stopped because my body was going into starvation mode. So, I have tried to increase my calories I eat. I am even eating when I am not hungry. I even went to the USDA super tracker and tried to follow it. That is hard for me to do. But, I Am trying. But, today is a perfect example. I have eaten today:
BREAKFAST: 1 Cup Cheerios, 1 Cup Skim Milk, 1 Cup 100% Orange Juice 335 Calories
FIRST MORNING SNACK: 28 Natural Almonds - 160 Calories
SECOND MORNING SNACK: Yogurt - 110 Calories
LUNCH: 2 Slices Whole Wheat Bread 7 slices of Land O Frost Bistro Style Roast Beef - 210 Calories (was going to have green beans. But left them at home)
FIRST AFTERNOON SNACK: 28 Natural Almonds - 160 Calories
SECOND AFTERNOON SNACK: Yogurt - 110 Calories
SPLENDA FOR TEA: 215 calories. Yes, I know this is a lot. But, I drink tea for water since plain water makes me sick and I was told this was healthier than drinking the drink mixes. Don't believe them, Splenda has 3.36 calories per pack haha.
So, I am up to 1303 calories and still have 1153 left without counting any exercise calories. And, according to the USDA, I still need to eat 5.5 oz of grain, 3 cups of veggies, 3/4 Cup of fruit, 1/2 protein, and two teaspoons of healthy oil. I just don't see me getting in another 1153 calories today.
Anyway, that is where I am. It sort of frustrates me. But,. I am trying to hang in there.

“ So, I am feeling a little better today from my pitty party yesterday. I know I can do this and I am going to work harder at it. I am trying to eat by the USDA food guidelines to force myself to eat a balanced diet. I know calories in and calories out is what the weight loss is about. But, the proper balance of the food groups should help me toward my goal of being healthier. The problem is I feel so full. LOL. But, it is because I was so used to eating empty calories. If I stopped eating now, I am 1400 calories below what I am supposed to be at. So, today I have left to eat I have left for today 3 oz grains, 2.25 cups of veggies, ¼ cup milk, and 3.5 oz of protein. I also think taking the time to get another photo done may encourage me. I look in the mirror and I see no improvement. So, maybe putting them side by side will help.”

“ Hey guys. It has been a little while since I posted. I guess it is because I have been plateud for a few weeks. I have been losing and gaining the same two pounds for a while. Then, yesterday was another blow. A little after I first started, they done a body composition analyzer on my body with a special scale and it told me my % of body fat and fat free mass (which is the bones, organs, muscles, etc). So, when my company's personal trainer told me he wanted me to do it again when I went to the gym, I did. The results were shocking and upsetting.
First, I have lost 53 pounds since I started which I would normally be proud of. But, this next stuff tells me that I am doing something majorly wrong. Since I did the body composition analyzer the first time, my body fat percentage has increased by 25.01 pounds (10% increase) and my fat free mass has decreased by 56.79 pounds. So, I am getting fatter and losing muscle.
I am not going to give up. Just really frustrated beyond belief. I am thinking that maybe a big reason this is happening is because maybe I am not eating enough calories. I am not sure. But, that is one of the main reasons I found that this can happen. Also, the failure to eat a balanced diet.
I don't remember who it was. But, I did see on here a few weeks ago where someone said they were eating extremely low calories and it was working for them. I thought it was working for me too. But, that obviously is not the case.
So, with this I am looking for advice and would like to give some advice of my own. My advise is that sometimes eating lower calories may help you lose weight. But, you may be losing the wrong kind of weight. Don't end up like me and go the wrong way on both the fat and the fat free mass. Eat a balanced meal and eat all your calories. That is my advice.”
