Really Simple American Apple Pie, like mom used to make.
Ingredients
- 5 lb Apple
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 2 Pillsbury Pie Crusts
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg, Ground
Directions
First thaw out the pie crusts. You could make your own (flour & water, tiny bit of vanilla extract), but the pillsbury pie crusts are just as good.
Grease a pie dish with Crisco and lay out the bottom portion of the crust.
Cut 5 lbs of apples - about 1" sq. Load the apples into the crust...it will look like too many apples, but they will reduce down.
Sprinkle 1/2-1 cup of sugar on the apples and add a sprinkle a layer of cinnamon on top and a touch of nutmeg.
Cut up pads of butter and place throughout the top of the pie.
While the top pie crust is folded in half, slice 3-4 1" cuts with a knife at the fold to let the pie breathe while baking.
Place the top of the pie crust on the apples and spread evenly over the apples. Pinch the ends of each pie crust together around the pie.
Finally, sprinkle a bit more cinnamon and sugar and lightly butter the top of the crust.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until brown on top.
