Calcium and a Spastic Colon

Spastic colon, more commonly referred to as irritable bowel syndrome, is not a fatal disease, but it can cause a great amount of discomfort. One thing that helps reduce the symptoms of a spastic colon is to avoid dairy products. Unfortunately, dairy products are a primary source of calcium for many people, and inadequate calcium consumption can cause health problems over time. If you have a spastic colon and are concerned about your calcium intake, consult a doctor.
