Sports Therapy for Costochondritis

Costochondritis is chest pain caused by inflammation or tearing of the cartilage that attaches the ribs to the breast bone. This type of chest pain is most common in children and young adults, ages 10 to 35. The sharp pain can also be felt in the stomach or back. Costochondritis is caused by a direct assault to the chest in contact sports, aggressive upper body exercise, repetitive coughing, and activities that increase chest pressure, such as weightlifting.
