Cardoso Denied Second Stage Victory in Catalunya

Volta a Catalunya
Stage 6: Tarragona to Mollet-del-Valles, 195km/121mi
By Cathy Mehl
Aiming for his second stage win, Team RadioShack rider Manuel Cardoso was denied victory in a questionable sprint by stage winner Jose Joaquin Rojas of Movistar. Although Cardoso raised his hand in protest at the finish line, no live coverage was available to validate the complaint from the Portuguese rider and the results stood. Third place went to yesterday’s winner Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis).
Team riders Levi Leipheimer and Chris Horner retained their second and 5th places on the classification behind race leader Alberto Contador of Saxo Bank-Sungard. Team RadioShack still leads in the Teams classification with one stage remaining to ride.
A break of four riders went up the road in today’s stage but were brought back before arrival in Mollet-del-Valles to set up the group sprint.
Sunday brings the final day of racing in Catalunya. The peloton will travel 124.5km/ 77mi from Parets del Valles to Barcelona to bring the 100-th edition of the Volta a Catalunya to a conclusion.
Special Note: American-registered Team Type 1 had all race and tt bikes, wheels, tools and spare parts stolen from locked team vehicles overnight at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali stage race in Italy. This happened to our team in Sacramento a few years ago and it was a terrible feeling, although most items were later recovered, I believe. Please spread the word to keep an eye out for the gear and visit the TT1 facebook page to see pictures of their bikes.
